Euro 2024: Austria stuns Netherlands 3-2 to go top of group D

Austria stunned Netherlands 3-2 to produce an upset at the ongoing Euro 2024.

Austria has now progressed to the round of 16 of the competition as the group winner.

Despite being handed a tough draw with the Dutch and France, Ralf Rangnick’s side won two of their three games to go  top of the standings.

The result meant that Netherlands will now progress to the round of 16 as one of the tournament’s best third-placed sides.

France finished second after recording a win and two draws.

Austria scored inside 6 minutes, when Donyell Malen turned home Alexander Prass’s dangerous cross to score the team’s opening goal.

Austria  had chances to add to their lead through Sabitzer and Marko Arnautovic, but the Netherlands were level just 75 seconds into the second half.

The Dutch came out fighting in the second half and equalised when Cody Gakpo curled in a great finish.

Captain Virgil Van Dijk came close to doubling their lead but hie header was parried out for a corner.

However, Austria  retook the lead through Romano Schmid’s powerful header, which the unfortunate Stefan de Vrij could only help over the line.

Memphis Depay thought he had earned the Dutch a draw when his close-range volley survived a check for handball by the video assistant referee.

Few minutes later, Sabitzer  fired a rocket to the roof top of the net to secure the win for the Austrians.

Euro 2024: Poland becomes first team to exit tournament after losing to Austria

Austria on Friday night recorded a resounding victory against Poland at the ongoing Euro 2024 championship.

With Lewandowski starting on the bench, Austria were rewarded for a positive start inside ten minutes.

One of two centre-backs brought into the starting line-up for this game, Gernot Trauner headed Phillipp Mwene’s cross past Wojciech Szczęsny at his near post.

Nicola Zalewski missed the target from a decent position on 18 minutes, but Poland found their range on the half-hour, Krzysztof Piątek first to a loose ball in the area after Jan Bednarek’s blast was blocked.

Marcel Sabitzer had a couple of decent efforts before the break, and Patrick Pentz saved from a neatly-struck Piotr Zieliński free-kick.

Austria, though, stole the Polish talisman’s thunder, Baumgartner wrong-footing Szczęsny with a hit from the edge of the box on 67 minutes.

78′ Arnautović makes it 3-1 from penalty spot

However Patrick Wimmer had a chance to finish it but was denied by Szczęsny on 75 minutes, yet the keeper then brought down Sabitzer when through on goal, Arnautović stepping up to convert the resulting penalty.

The results meant Poland will kiss the tournament goodbye after losing two straight games already.

  • Austria supports UK plan to send migrants to Africa

Austria supports UK plan to send migrants to Africa

Austria’s  Chancellor Karl Nehammer on Tuesday said Austria will campaign in the European Union for a new migration policy in which asylum procedures would take place in African countries if necessary.

He made his comments after a working meeting in Vienna with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who is behind a UK plan to send migrants without the required immigration papers to Rwanda and have them apply for asylum there.

Nehammer said the British plan played an important and pioneering role in the discussion.

“The United Kingdom is thus paving the way for this path, which will also be important for the European Union,” said Nehammer.

He pointed out those 15 states in the EU that are now in favour of this approach.

Nehammer also said that sending migrants to Africa would destroy the business model of people smugglers and save human lives.

Furthermore, he added that there is still a long way to go in the EU before this type of asylum procedure is actually implemented.

Sunak expressed his delight for the support.

He noted that it is increasingly clear that many other countries now agree that it is the approach that requires a bold, novel and a safe country partnerships,’’ Sunak said.

The UK leader called illegal migration “truly one of the defining issues of our time.”

“We face criminal gangs that are growing in strength across the European continent and beyond,’’ he said.

He called the business of migration a “vile trade.”

Commentators said Sunak’s visit to Vienna is primarily intended to signal that EU states approve of the UK’s controversial migration policy.

A new parliament is due to be elected in the UK this year.

In view of the large gap in the polls, Sunak wants to score political points with a tough crackdown on migration, according to analysts.

In order to circumvent a judgment by the Supreme Court in London, Sunak’s Conservative government had the East African country legally declared a safe third country.

However, opponents criticise the plan as a violation of international asylum agreements.

However, her offer was turned down by the club, as the marketing department insisted that it would be breaking their “guidelines”.

Jessy got her first breast implantation at just 17 with the money her parents had given her for driving lessons

A club statement read: “As part of its marketing guidelines, the FCN as a club does not enter into any partnerships from the ‘erotic’ category as a matter of principle.”

The club are currently sitting 11th in Germany’s second division, having only won five times out of their 17 games this season.

It was gathered that Jessy spent more than £50,000 in order to look like a real-life Barbie doll.

She has had three boob jobs in three years as well as operations on her nose and to increase her bum size and plump up her lips.

And the Vienna-based model is planning on having more.

She said: “I can imagine having several more surgeries. Having the biggest silicone breasts in Austria just isn’t enough for me. I want the most voluminous lips in the whole country too.”

Jessy got her first breast implantation at just 17 with the money her parents had given her for driving lessons.

Since then, she has had three more breast augmentation surgeries, an operation for her nose, one to increase her butt size, and another to plump her lips. She says that she has spent more than $56,000 to look like a Barbie Doll.

According to Jessy, she is happy with her appearance and she is more comfortable now than she was as a teenager.

On Instagram, Jessy said she is a model and claims her cup size is “2000cc and growing”.

“I always pretended to be cool and solid but I never was, I had short dark hair, many piercings and dreadlocks. But that wasn’t my true self. Getting up in the morning and feeling happy and comfortable in your own skin is just wonderful,” she asserted.

  • Euro 2020: Italy send Austria out in extra time as Denmark thrash Wales

Euro 2020: Italy send Austria out in extra time as Denmark thrash Wales

Italy needed extra time to see off battling Austria at Wembley and set up a Euro 2020 quarter-final against Belgium or Portugal.

Austria marked their first appearance in the knockout stage of the European Championship with a tireless performance to give their much-fancied opponents a scare.

Marko Arnautovic had a headed goal disallowed after a VAR check for offside in normal time when the game was goalless before goals from substitutes Federico Chiesa and Matteo Pessina sent Italy through.

Wales were eliminated in the second round of Euro 2020 as they were thrashed by Denmark, whose inspiring journey at the tournament continues to the quarter-finals.

Backed by a fervent and almost exclusively Danish crowd, Kasper Hjulmand’s side led as Kasper Dolberg curled in a fine 27th-minute strike from the edge of the penalty area.

Dolberg struck again in the 48th minute as he seized on a defensive error from Wales substitute Neco Williams to smash in from close range.

That goal deflated Wales, who never looked like clawing their way back into the game as Joakim Maehle added a late third for the jubilant Danes.

Substitute Harry Wilson was then shown a straight red card for a late foul on Maehle before Martin Braithwaite struck a fourth goal in added time as Wales’ campaign ended miserably.

Euro 2020: Netherlands, Austria through to knockout stage

Goals from Memphis Depay and Georginio Wijnaldum helped the Netherlands beat North Macedonia to make it three wins from three at Euro 2020.

Austria reached the knockout stages of the European Championship for the first time as a deserved win over Ukraine secured a last-16 tie against Italy.

Franco Foda’s side produced a courageous display in Bucharest and Christoph Baumgartner’s close-range finish proved enough to earn a Wembley meeting with the Italians on Saturday.

Ukraine – third in Group C – must wait to see if their tally of three points proves enough to reach the knockout stages and in truth their timid display here could have been punished more heavily by Austria.

UEFA ban Austria player at Euro 2020

Austria forward Marko Arnautovic has been banned for one game by UEFA for insulting another player in Sunday’s Euro 2020 win over North Macedonia.

Arnautovic, who has Serbian heritage, had to be restrained by captain David Alaba as he celebrated his late goal.

Arnautovic appeared to direct comments at opponents Egzon Bejtulai and Gjanni Alioski, who have Albanian roots.

Arnautovic responded after the match by saying he he is “not a racist”.

The 32-year-old was found guilty of misconduct, with Uefa not considering his actions to be discriminatory.

Arnautovic, who was born in Austria and has a Serbian father, apologised for his goal celebration in a post on Instagram.

He wrote: “There were some heated words yesterday in the emotions of the game for which I would like to apologise, especially to my friends from North Macedonia and Albania.

“I would like to say one thing very clearly: I am not a racist.

“I have friends in almost every country and I stand for diversity. Everyone who knows me is aware of that.”

Serbia does not recognise the independence of its former province Kosovo, while there is historic tension between Serbia and North Macedonia.

Austria’s next game is against the Netherlands at the Johan Cruyff arena on Thursday, while North Macedonia face Ukraine.

  • Nigeria play goalless draw against Cameroon in Austria

Nigeria play goalless draw against Cameroon in Austria

Nigeria played out a goalless draw with Cameroon in a practice match on Tuesday evening.

Kelechi Iheanacho missed the best chance of the game, as the Super Eagles failed to exact revenge on the Indomitables Lions.

The three-time African champions had lost 1-0 to the same opponents at the Wiener Neustadt Stadium in Vienna last Friday.

Fulham midfielder, André-Frank Zambo Anguissa, fired in the winner in the first half of that encounter, which was classed as international friendly.

Tuesday’s game was played behind closed doors and not beamed live on TV.

Gernot Rohr used the two matches to continue tweaking his squad, ahead of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers in September.
