  • Four passengers dead, one injured in Edo auto crash

    No fewer than four persons have allegedly died in an auto crash on the Benin-Auchi expressway in the Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.

     

    One person was said to have been injured in the incident which occurred at the popular Jattu junction.

     

    It was learnt that disaster struck when a truck laden with cement and en route to Benin from Abuja rammed into three vehicles after the driver lost control.

     

    A source said that the impact of the smash left four passengers dead and one other with injuries.

     

    The truck was also said to have rammed into an articulated vehicle in the process.

     

    According to reports, the accident left motorists stranded as it resulted in a gridlock on the busy road for several hours, before the intervention of officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps.

     

    It was also learnt that the remains of the deceased were deposited in a morgue while the injured was taken to a hospital.

     

    The Head of Operations and acting state Sector Commander of the FRSC, Samson Eniyemo, confirmed the sad occurrence.

     

    Eniyemo ascribed the auto crash to brakes’ failure and speed.

     

    He, however, counselled motorists to always observe traffic regulations and adhere to speed limits while on the road.

     

  • Tragic! Six die in Zamfara auto crash

    Six persons lost their lives on Friday in Zamfara when two 18-seater commercial busses collided along Tsafe-Gusau road.

    Spokesman for Zamfara Police Command, DSP Mohammed Shehu, told newsmen that the accident was caused by overspeeding.

    “Fortunately, our men who are on constant patrol on the road, were at hand and they immediately came to the victims’ rescue.

    “Five persons died on the spot while the sixth died when our patrol team brought them to the Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, Gusau,” said the police spokesman.

    Shehu said that the survivors were treated at the Accident and Emergency Ward while the dead bodies were deposited in the hospital mortuary.

    He charged motorists to avoid overspeeding and reckless driving as well as ensure that their vehicles were in good condition before plying the road.

  • Doctor, mother, child, others severely injured in Obaseki’s convoy accident

    The convoy of the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, was on Wednesday involved in a accident at the ever busy Ugbowo-lagos Express road.

    The accident which occurred in front of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) Maingate, left the bus conveying the governor’s press crew marked (EDGH 278) badly destroyed and some journalists sustained various degree of injuries.

    A statement by the Special Adviser to Governor Obaseki, on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr Crusoe Osagie confirmed the accident.

    The statement reads in part, “A number of people in the bus and three other vehicles that were involved in the accident, including a medical doctor and a mother and child, sustained varied degrees of injuries, and are currently receiving treatments at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).

    “An official of the state government has been sent to the hospital to ascertain the degree of injuries sustained by the victims and we are also in touch with the doctors managing the victims, who are in stable condition.

    “We have undertaken to pay the medical bills of all the victims. No life was lost.”

  • Six die, 14 injured in Sokoto auto crash

    Six persons have died and 14 others were injured in an auto crash on Sokoto-Jega road in Sokoto State, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

    Sani Hamzat, the Sokoto State Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) said the crash occurred on Wednesday.

    He said all the victims were in a Toyota Canter truck conveying goods and passengers when the driver lost control and ran into a ditch.

    Mr. Hamzat said all the victims were evacuated to hospital by road marshals.

    Meanwhile, another accident involving two cars had claimed the life of one person on Sokoto-Gusau road.

    The sector commander attributed the crashes to over speeding and dangerous driving and urged motorists respect traffic rules and regulations.

    Mr. Hamzat advised motorists to always ensure that their vehicles, screens and tyres are in perfect condition before putting the vehicles on road.(NAN)

  • Christmas tragedy! 11 women conveying bride die in auto crash

    The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kano state on Sunday confirmed that 11 women died in a ghastly auto crash in Kano metropolis on Saturday night.

    FRSC Public Relations Officer, Mr Kabir Ibrahim-Daura told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano that the incident occurred around 8.30 p.m. at the old tollgate near Sa’adatu Abubakar Rimi College of Education.

    According to him, the women were conveying a bride from Unguwa Uku to Yan’lemu area when the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit the tollgate.

    He said eight women died on the spot while the remaining three died at the hospital.

    Eight persons died on the spot because the vehicle after hitting the tollgate it divided into two instantly, Daura said.

    He said three other women and the male driver were still at the hospital receiving medical attention.

    The FRSC spokesman attributed the accident to over spending and urged other motorists to drive with utmost care by obeying all the traffic rules and regulations.

  • 10 killed in Ogun auto accident

    Ten passengers in a commercial bus travelling to Ibadan in Oyo State were confirmed dead in an accident when the bus collided with a truck on Abeokuta/Ibadan Road in Ogun.

    Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, the Public Relations Officer (PRO), Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), confirmed the incident to newsmen on Wednesday in Abeokuta.

    Akinbiyi said that the truck driver only sustained injury in the accident.

    He said that the incident occurred around 8.00p.m on Tuesday, adding that speeding and negligence on the part of the truck driver caused the accident.

    “The truck with registration number BDG 7I4 XE was coming from Ibadan inward Abeokuta, while the Toyota Litace marked EKY I85 XH was travelling to Ibadan outward Abeokuta.

    “Due to speed and negligence on the part of the truck driver, it had head on collision with the bus, leading to the accident that claimed the lives of all the passengers in the bus.

    “Eleven people were involved in the crash; two females and eight males died in the accident, while driver of the truck was the only one injured,” Akinbiyi said.

    The TRACE spokesman said that the corpses of the victims had been deposited at the Adeoyo Hospital Morgue in Ibadan, while the injured was receiving treatment in the same hospital.

    The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Ahmed Makarfi, on Friday escaped death by the whiskers after a vehicle he was travelling in was involved in multiple collision along Abuja-Kaduna Highway.

    PDP spokesman, Dayo Adeyeye in a statement, said that Mr. Makarfi “and all other passengers in his vehicle came out unhurt.”

    He said, “This is to allay the fears of our Party members, teeming supporters and well wishers who heard of the accident and have been making frantic calls; as well as those who may stumble on half-baked information.”

  • 5 dead, 10 injured in Edo auto crash

    The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of five persons in a road traffic accident involving several vehicles on the Benin-Auchi road in Edo, on Saturday.

    Mr Bisi Kazeem, FRSC Public Education Officer, told newsmen in Abuja that 10 persons were injured in the incident that occurred at the Ewu slope area of the route.

    The accident involved six vehicles, including two trailers, two Toyota buses and an Audi 80 car.

    The crash was caused by a head-on collision and a total of 40 persons were involved,” he said.

    Kazeem said that the injured were taken to hospitals in nearby Auchi, Irrua and Agbede towns.

    Renowned Gospel artiste and convener of Halleluyah Challenge, Nathaniel Bassey has debunked news that he was involved in a ghastly accident on the 28th of June on his way from the Halleuyah Festival, a concert held to wrap off the Halleuyah Challenge.

    The singer who suffered intense criticism during the challenge said bloggers twisted someone else’s testimony just to gain traffic. Bassey made this statement on his social media handles.
