“There’s no decision yet on KWAM1’s fate after his apology”-Aviation minister, Keyamo

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has said the Nigerian government is yet to decide on the fate of fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as K1 de Ultimate or KWAM 1.

This is coming after Ayinde’s public apology over a controversial altercation at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

Keyamo, in a statement on Friday, said he had seen KWAM 1’s apology but noted that the matter was still under official consideration.

“We have just seen this (apology) on social media like everyone else. We have not had the opportunity to deliberate on it,” the minister said.

The development comes after the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) reaffirmed on Friday that petitions against KWAM 1 had been forwarded to the Attorney General of the Federation and the Inspector General of Police for necessary action.

NCAA spokesman Michael Achimugu said the agencies would determine the next steps.

On Thursday, the NCAA confirmed it had formally petitioned for the investigation and prosecution of the musician over his clash with ValueJet officials at the airport on August 5, 2025.

Recall that in a personally signed statement released Friday, KWAM 1 described the incident as “unfortunate” and denied claims that he was carrying alcohol at the time. He explained that the flask in his possession contained water, citing a medical condition that requires him to remain constantly hydrated.

“Unknown to many, I suffer from chronic dehydration, and my doctor strongly advised that I remain constantly hydrated. This is why I always carry a water flask with me. Contrary to the negative narrative being circulated in some quarters, the flask contained only water not alcohol,” he stated.

The veteran singer also apologised to the Presidency, the Ministry of Aviation, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the NCAA, ValueJet, and Nigerians at large.

EXPLANATION! Aviation minister, Keyamo clarifies on directive to foreign airlines to patronize local caterers

Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, SAN has clarifies on the directive earlier issued to foreign airlines to serve local delicacies to passengers on board.

    Hear him:

“This is to clarify that directing foreign airlines on
out-bound flights to patronise our local caterers
is not the same thing as directing them to serve
    local dishes.

” Our local caterers can also prepare continental dishes or anyone for that matter
    ACCORDING TO THEIR OWN SPECIFICATION.

“The age-long practice of bringing their meals frozen from their different countries and then
warming and serving them on their outbound flights to mostly our own citizens is no longer
    acceptable.

    “We also have quality control
agencies to supervise the hygienic nature of those meals, if that is their concern. On the flip
side, if they want us to trust the quality of the food they bring into our country to serve our own
citizens, then they also should trust our own process of vetting those meals made by our local
    caterers.

“The bottom line is that we must support our local businesses with our huge population
and traffic, but other caterers from other climes should not benefit from what should essentially
be to the benefit of our local economy.

Over 100 Airlines have gone under in Nig in last 25yrs – Aviation Minister, Keyamo laments

…threatens to cancel some aviation contracts

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has lamented that no fewer than 100 airlines have gone under in Nigeria in the last 25 years.

Speaking at the Aviation Industry Stakeholders’ Forum held in Lagos on Saturday, Keyamo decried the continuous collapsing of airlines in Nigeria adding that the President Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian government would henceforth support the carriers.

Keyamo, who threatened to cancel some contracts in the aviation sector that are not to the benefit of Nigerians, specifically mentioned that some contracts entered into by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) are obsolete and require reviews.

The minister however said that the Federal Government would help the operators to grow, but emphasised that the airlines too must be ready to show seriousness about their operations.

According to him, the essence of the stakeholders’ meeting was to receive inputs from professionals in the sector, stressing that their inputs would add value to the roadmap that the Industry would prioritise to make the aviation sector world class and meet the aspirations of Nigerians and all aviation stakeholders.

“We should desist from game blame and focus on solving the problems in the industry,” the minister added.

Nigeria to get national carrier soon – Aviation minister, Sirika

The Minister of Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika says Nigeria will soon get a national carrier.

Sirika said this when he appeared before the House of Representatives Committee on Aviation for 2023 budget defence in Abuja on Tuesday.

The minister said that President Muhammadu Buhari was also expected to commission one of the two cargoes at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja in a few days time.

Sirika said the national carrier would first concentrate on domestic operation before venturing into international operations.

According to him, the national carrier of Nigeria is on its way to be launched with beoing 737 and followed by international operation.

He said the aviation sector had recorded significant improvement in the last few years.

He added that the Murtala International Airport, Lagos, and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja witnessed tremendous changes under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“This significant growth is sequel to the roadmap we are building. Our airports are wearing new look especially Lagos, Abuja, Kano, and Portharcourt among others,” he said.

Sirika said that the contract for the Cargo terminal at the airports were abandoned by the contractors, adding that the President directed that they be investigated, prosecuted and the monies recovered.

He however, said, that because the ministry did not have prosecuting powers, it could not go ahead.

”We reported to EFCC now in the last three and half years, they confirmed to me that they have finished the investigation. This is worrisome.”

Rep. Nnolim Nnaji, the Chairman of House Committee on Aviation, said the budget defence was intended to have a full-year implementation report to guide the committee on the consideration of the 2023 budget.

He said the committee would within the next few weeks embark on oversight of three international airports terminal slated for concession.

“The committee has noticed with great concern the omission of one of the critical security and safety agency of the ministry, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency,” he said.

He said the committee would ensure that the abnormality was corrected while urging the minister to make clarification on the matter.

Aviation minister frowns at airlines selling tickets in dollars

The Minister of Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika, has frowned at foreign airlines selling tickets in dollars, warning that government would not take it kindly with those caught engaging in such violation of Nigerian laws.

Sirika gave the warning while fielding questions from State House correspondents at the end of the virtual meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday in Abuja.

The minister revealed that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) had been instructed to swing into action by protecting the interest of Nigerians against reported airlines’ operations malpractices.

He warned that no violator, no matter how highly placed, would be spared if caught in the act.

According to him, findings at the government’s disposal have indicated that some of the airlines are refusing naira and charging their ticket fares in dollars in violation of the country’s laws.

He said: ”I want to use this opportunity to say that reports are reaching us that some of the airlines are refusing to sell tickets in naira. That is a violation of our local laws, they will not be allowed.

”The high and the mighty amongst them will be sanctioned if they’re caught doing that.

”NCAA had been directed to swing into action and once we find any airline violating this, we will definitely deal with them. Also, they blocked the travel agents from access.

”They also made only the expensive tickets available and so on and so forth.

”Our regulators are not sleeping, we have a very vibrant Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority. Once they found any airline guilty, that airline will be dealt with because we need to protect our people.”

The minister further disclosed that the foreign airlines made over 1.1 billion dollars from Nigeria in 2016 when Buhari’s administration cleared the 600 million dollars it inherited from the previous government.

Sirika recalled that the airlines remitted over 600 million dollars to their home countries in 2016 while over 265 million dollars had also been released this year out of about 484 million dollars due to them.

According to him, the government is trying to keep the airlines happy by ensuring that their money does not pile up again, saying that while the country needs their services, the airlines need the Nigerian market.

The minister warned them to refrain from using social media to press home their demands rather than resorting to diplomatic channels.

Sirika also described an irresponsible media report that the Federal Government had so far expanded N14.6 billion on the Nigeria Air project.

According to him, the government has only spent N651 million (N352 million and N299 million) for what he called transactional advisory services approved by the FEC, but yet to be disbursed as the consultants were yet to finish their work

He said: ”So Nigeria Air is of course, we are going to come very soon to council for approval of the full business case.

”The activity is a Public Private Partnership, which is guided by the ICRC regulations, Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission.

“We have diligently followed that. And I want to seize the opportunity to say that we have been reading newspaper reports, especially those that I have maximum respect for like the Guardian, which put out a sensational article on the front page.

”That the Federal Government of Nigeria has spent N14 billion on the national carrier and they did nothing – this is absurd.”

  • FFK’s wife, Precious Chikwendu reunites with children after long battle for custody

Precious Chikwendu, the wife of the former aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode a.k.a FFK, has reunited with her children after months of intense battle.

The duo has been in an intense fight in and out of the court over the custody of the kids who have been in the care of their father ever since.

In a new development, Chikwendu finally got to reunite with her children amidst the battle for divorce.

Taking to Instagram, FFK shared a video of the moments the kids’ mother enjoyed with them which he described as a ‘beautiful sight.’

“My sons spent the day with their mother yesterday! ?❤️
What a beautiful sight it was! ?❤️
Love, peace and joy all around! ?❤️?
    Thanks be to God. ?❤️?
@snowhiteey , Thanks Mama Aragorn. ?,” FFK wrote while sharing the video.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) recalls that Chikwendu and FFK have been locked in a messy legal battle over the custody of their four sons since they parted ways in 2020.

Chikwendu had petitioned the United Nations (UN), Amnesty International, United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) seeking justice and custody of her children.

The petition came about 48 hours after she penned a sad, public note to her first son Lotanna on his birthday.

In December 2021, she urged a Customary Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) court to declare that she was never married to the ex-minister.

Contrary to his claims, she said he neither paid her bride price nor performed customary or statutory marriage rites with her. As a result, she seeks access to the four children she bore him.

In the same month, the former Minister disobeyed court orders to allow her access to her children, alleging that she has bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

FFK, whom the Nigerian anti-graft arraigned for allegedly forging medical reports to evade trial on December 17, 2021, also alleged that she refused to breastfeed her sons, as such, owns no bragging right to be called a mother.

Various court suits have granted Chikwemdu access to her children, who are all below the age of eight.

In the letter titled, ‘Request for Access to the Petitioner’s Four Male Children,’ Ms Chikwendu chose Central Park in Abuja to meet with the children on December 18, 2021, from 9 a.m. till 6 p.m.

Other days scheduled for the visitation were January 1, 2022, New Year’s Day, at the same venue and time.

    The petition
The petition ‘Justice for Snowhite and Sons’ billed to hit 10,000 signatures had accumulated 8128 signatures as of press time.

Other agencies named in the petition include Human Rights Campaign, Child Rights Advocacy, Project Alert, and Women Advocacy.

According to Chikwendu, the petition was initiated “to reach all international agencies reachable.”

In the petition hosted on Change, org, the ex-beauty queen said her ex-partner has a history of abusing women.

According to her, she experienced severe mental and physical abuse for six years together.

Chikwendu also claimed she was locked up in a mental home where she was injected with substances on the ex-ministers orders to “enable him to create a situation to take over her kids.”

The mother-of-four said since their affair ended on August 2, 2020, she has been denied access to her children.

The petition partly read: “This petition would help African women who have been denied a right to their children because they were married to or cohabited with a person of power.

“This petition would put an end to bullying and oppression from political spouses who have the power and means to oppress and frustrate their partners out of the lives of their growing children who need the love and care of both parents. Precious is seeking justice and custody of her children. This bill will help her bring her problem before the International community.”

  • Why Nigeria is yet to resume flights to Dubai – Aviation Minister

Why Nigeria is yet to resume flights to Dubai – Aviation Minister

The Federal Government on Monday said flights to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are yet to resume due to discriminatory nature of protocol introduced by the UAE.

The Minister of Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika, made the remark during the briefing by the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19 in Abuja on Monday.

Sirika, who explained that the protocol appeared to be targeted at only Nigerians, added that it was discriminatory and not backed up scientifically.

He explained that UAE was insistent that all passengers intending to visit its country must use Emirates Airline or spend two weeks in the alternative carrier’s country before gaining entrance to Dubai.

The minister dismissed insinuations that the continuous delay in the resumption of flights was ego related.

He, however, said that talks were ongoing to resolve the matter.

According to him, Emirates in particular and other airlines, including KLM, gave some conditions that were not acceptable to Nigeria because they don’t make scientific sense.

“After review, some of the airlines, especially KLM, saw sense with what Nigeria presented which is that you can do the test 48 hours to 72 hours before you leave and do another test on arrival.

“Emirates at that time wanted us to do the test 48 hours before boarding and 48 hours is not yet the incubation time.

”They expect us to do a rapid test at the airport and then fly seven hours later and do another test in Dubai and then follow us to our hotel or our accommodation and do another test.

“That dragged on and in the interest of our people and cordial relationship, even though it is a commercial decision for the airline to take at any point in time, we ceded and accepted that we would do those tests that doesn’t make scientific sense to us at the expense of our people and our monies.

“We accepted what Emirates presented and proceeded even though KLM and other airlines saw our reasons and rationale and towed the lines of Nigeria.

“In this case, Emirates insisted again that in addition to the test on arrival and other tests, that Nigerians cannot fly to UAE except through Emirates airline.

”And that if we choose to do so through other airlines like Ethiopia, Qatar, Turkish or other airlines, we must remain in the country of that airline for two weeks if we are Nigerians before we continue to Dubai.

“Meaning that if I buy my ticket in a free market which Nigeria and UAE practices, if I buy a ticket on Ethiopian Airline, that means I must remain in Addis Ababa for two weeks whether I have a visa or not before I proceed to Dubai.

“So, they insisted that we must fly by Emirates and majority of Nigerians are petty traders and the ticket of Emirates in this case may be higher than other airlines,” Sirika explained.

He stressed that civil aviation was being guided by agreement and international convention.

”It is only one aviation and we found this position to be discriminatory against our country and it is not acceptable.

“We thought we could take it diplomatically and we have been meeting and exchanging ideas because at some point, they said they are being hard on Nigerians because there are fake results.

”And I said there are fake results in UAE, Germany, UK, USA, all over the world, there are fake results but Nigeria went ahead to put measures in place to detect fake results.

“So, we have gone the extra mile plus if you look at the rate of infection and the rate of people catching COVID-19 in Nigeria, we are far less than many other countries in the world which UAE did not apply that principle upon.

Sirika said that the total number of deaths in Nigeria might be 3000 and in one day, 3000 Italians died or British and they were still being allowed to go direct to UAE.

”Even Ghanaians, Nigeriens and other African countries can go to Dubai directly; so the protocol is country-specific and it is not acceptable by the agreement and convention that we signed with UAE.

“So, this is the position, it has nothing to do with ego, it is a fact that we cannot be isolated as the only country that they will apply this to.

“In one of our discussions, they said it is also the same case with South Africa, I want to put it on record that South Africa as a country wrote and demanded that the condition be applied upon them.

”So, it is their own choice but it is not the choice of Nigeria that we should be excluded and discriminated against.

“We are still talking with them and we would likely escalate the matter and I am sure that we would resolve it soon.

Sirika, however, apologised to passengers, saying, ”we are aware that some have to travel for medical reasons while some have to resume work, some are students and even holidaymakers.

”We believe that you have the right to travel to Dubai and you will do so and for the sake of the international convention, we cannot be discriminated against,“ he explained.
