AY Makun, Basketmouth meet, after 17-year feud

Nigerian comedian cum filmmaker, Ayodeji Richard Makun, popularly known as AY, and his colleague, Bright Okpocha, better known as Basketmouth, have made their first public appearance together after settling their 17 years of beef.

TheNewsGuru.com(TNG) recalls that the rift between the two prominent comedians, began in 2006 over unpaid performance fee.

In 2021, Basketmouth during a Black Box interview with media personality, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, said he fell out with AY because he messed with loyalty while AY during an interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwo in May 2023, attributed the cause of the rift to a business transaction that went sour in 2006.

However, following Basketmouth’s apology in 2023, the duo decided to put  their differences aside and work together again.

Speaking about the rift, AY in the latest episode of the ‘Glass House with AY‘ podcast, argued he did not get the money for the show while Basketmouth maintained that he was paid.

AY went on to shared insights into his prolonged rift with Basketmouth.

“I did not know when the fight started. I just noticed it started. Every day I wake up thinking it was a normal thing, boys will be boys and like that, it grew into several years,” he said.

“Then the third year, it seemed like people were spreading more rumours about the feud till it lasted that long. It lasted too long”.

AY emphasised the feud’s impact on younger comedians. “Our feud caused some damages because in a way we were like providers for people,” he said.

Basketmouth added: “Most times people swear allegiance by default. So when we were not on good terms some people made it their business”.

“…A comedian called me to tell me AY reached out to him for a gig and was asking if it was okay to work with AY. I told him it was okay and I was happy it happened because people would know it was okay to work for either of us because it was about more money and opportunities.

“There was a guy who picked a side and came at me. Now that we are cool, he would be confused. It is collaboration over competition.”

Comedian AY pleads with Nigerians to stop criticizing Alex Iwobi

Nigerian Actor and comedian AY Makun has pleaded with Nigerians to stop criticizing super Eagles star  Alex Iwobi, emphasizing the harmful effects of cyberbullying.

The football player for the Super Eagles was forced to remove his Instagram account as a result of persistent criticism from Nigerian fans.

AY Makun responded by posting pictures of Alex Iwobi’s contribution to the Super Eagles’ accomplishment in earning a spot in the African Cup of Nations and a description of the negative effects of cyberbullying.

The comedian asked Nigerians to give the football player love instead of criticism.

In his word“Anyone can become a victim of cyberbullying. Malicious information posted on the Internet can spread far and wide at an instant, and it is always difficult to be deleted completely. The immediacy of the spread makes it hard for victims to defend themselves or take precautions. The harm caused by cyberbullying is always ignored by computer or mobile phone users.

It is so sad to see how you all have exhibited various forms of cyberbullying on a young man whose only crime was to come and represent his father land. Tomorrow, you all will still be wondering why the likes of Saka and others are never going to play for Nigeria?

It’s time to think beyond your personal interests and look at the negative effects of your evil actions. Let’s help promote a culture of care and respect on the Internet and prevent cyberbullying. Kindly share a ❤️ for @alexanderiwobi on this post.

NOTE: Dear Fair weather and forgetful fans. The different slides are designed to refresh your selfish memories.”

No parents wants to outlive their children – Comedian AY

Following the death of Ifeanyi Adeleke, son of music artist Davido, who died in a swimming pool, Popular comedian Ayodeji Richard Makun better known as AY has stated that no parent would want to outlive their children.

AY writing on his Instagram page stated that, humans would never understand why God would give us a blessing and allow the devil to take it so quickly.

His statement reads, “Dear Lord, we will never understand why you would give us a blessing and allowed the devil to take it so quickly. No parents wants to outlive their children, and it’s really not fair on the few good people who do a lot to help others keep their own children alive, by giving them hopes for a better tomorrow.

This loss affects so many people. How do we even encourage them to move on? How can we ever trust caregivers with our children when we remember the painful circumstances surrounding that innocent child’s death? We all want to ask for forgiveness and continue to glorify you, even in our pain. You sincerely need to show Yourself to the parents and protect them from bitterness. Give them a new purpose for living and a way to honour their child’s life. Give them the courage to trust you, to hope again, and to love again. Protect them from living in fear and paranoia. Judging by the things you have blessed us with, we know you are good, and you do good. Protect us from evil people as we give you this tragedy to redeem in Jesus name. Amen!”
