Labour Minister, Chris Ngige gets into big mess [Video]

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Mr. Chris Ngige, got himself into a big mess on Tuesday at the All Progressives Congress (APC) mega rally held at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado Ekiti.

TheNewsGuru reports that the Labour Minister found himself in the big mess after he faltered by campaigning for the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor Ayodele Fayose, instead of the APC he represents.

Heavy security was on Tuesday mounted in every corner of Ado Ekiti, as President Muhammadu Buhari led top notches of the ruling APC to Ekiti for the Grand Finale of the party’s mega rally for Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

At the rally, Ngige, either by commission or omission, praised the PDP and Governor Fayose in the presence of Buhari and the mammoth crowd that greeted the occasion.

The Minister, who mostly spoke in Pidgin English, said “E go happen on Saturday. Those wey wan Saturday to happen raise your hands with your PVC and everything”.

Turning to President Buhari, Ngige said, “Mr President, the leaders of our party, our people are ready, they are ready and on Saturday it will happen.

“Especially those from the South west for the mistake they made in 2014, so they won’t make that mistake again”.

“If you marry two wives, you go know which one wey better. Fayose is the better Wife, he dey cook, he dey give him husband better food, he no dey give am trouble, so you must bring back Fayose on Saturday,” he said to the amazement of the crowd.

  • Fayose to Fayemi: Don’t celebrate yet

Fayose to Fayemi: Don’t celebrate yet

Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose on Sunday told his predecessor and current Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr.Kayode Fayemi not to celebrate yet, describing Fayemi’s victory, at the rescheduled governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress held on Saturday, pyrrhic.

Fayose thanked the APC delegates that picked Fayemi for doing him great favour, saying they had made his task and pain of defeating an APC candidate much easier with the choice of Fayemi as their candidate for the July 14 gubernatorial poll.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, Fayose said the former Ekiti state governor’s victory has only positioned him to suffer a worse and more debilitating defeat than the one he dealt him in 2014.

” In 2014 when he was the sitting governor and I was not in power, I trounced him mercilessly. I gave him 16 – 0, defeating him in all the 16 local governments, including in his home town, Isan Ekiti, he did not win a single local government

” Now, I have been in power for more than three years and have served the people of Ekiti well. My legacy projects are there to speak for me, and for my party the PDP, as well as for our candidate in the July 14 governorship election, Prof. Kolapo Olusola-Eleka

“I promise that Fayemi will suffer the worst defeat of his political career. after the July 14 election, he will not only suffer embarrassing defeat, he will go into political oblivion afterwards

“He has nothing to celebrate because of the electoral disaster awaiting him. The manner of his so-called victory also leaves much to be desired as it has turned many of their party leaders and followers against him

“ To those who may not know, Fayemi’s victory has made the condition of APC worse in Ekiti. The party leaders and members know that Fayemi has no use for any of them beyond the July 14 election”, Fayose said.

He appealed to those he claimed were trampled by Fayemi, especially those of them who were members of PDP, to return “home”.

” PDP is your natural habitat. This is the time for you to escape from the APC’s sinking boat and return home to a rousing welcome. We also invite other politicians not satisfied with the parlous state of affairs of our nation to join hands with PDP to rescue our nation

” APC is falling apart everywhere, the party, which was dead before in Ekiti, has now been buried with Fayemi’s victory.

” Fayemi is the final nail on APC’s coffin in Ekiti. He may deceive them in Abuja but he is a paper weight at home. His arrogance alienates Ekiti people and any serious politician from him. He will meet his political waterloo on July 14”, Fayose boasted.

As if second guessing the reaction of Fayose to his candidacy, Fayemi too last night issued a quit notice to Fayose and his candidate, Prof. Kolapo Olusola, saying that APC is about to purge the state of the bad reputation it has earned under Fayose’s stewardship.

“We have seen a cynical approach to politics that exploits the penury of the poor and the vulnerability of the marginalised. We have seen the entrenchment of the disdain for elders, traditional institutions, and all forms of constituted authorities.

“Instead of continuing the quest for freedom from ignorance, disease and want, what we have seen is a paradigm that deepens captivity to these ills. In short, the last four years has called into question all that we stand for as a people. The timeless values of honour, dignity, nobility and civility encapsulated in the Omoluabi ethos have been eroded”.

  • Okowa departs Ekiti, as Fayose begs Governor stays over

Okowa departs Ekiti, as Fayose begs Governor stays over

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, after successfully conducting the Ekiti State Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primaries, has departed the state.

Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose was rumoured to have pleaded with the Delta State Governor to stay over the weekend.

Fayose reportedly mockingly told the All Progressives Congress (APC) to hire Okowa for its primary scheduled to hold on Friday.

Okowa chaired the committee that on Tuesday conducted the governorship primary of the PDP in Ekiti state, which was acclaimed to be credible and generally peaceful.

Aspirants and observers had described the exercise as transparent and credible.

In his remarks at the close of the exercise, Fayose said he would keep Okowa in the state till Friday so he could help the APC with their primary election.

“We will keep Okowa here till Friday to help APC, if not they will not have any candidate. They will still continue to beat themselves. They can’t conduct congresses, they do not represent the minds of the masses,” he said.

Reacting, however, Okowa said he is not part of the APC and cannot help them with their primary.

“I decline to conduct the primary for APC. They need me back in Delta,” he said.

APC primary election, which was conducted last Saturday by Tanko Al-Madura, Governor of Nasarawa state, was marred by violence.

  • Mind your business, Ekiti APC tells Fayose

The Ekiti state chapter of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) on Wednesday night reacted to claims by Governor Ayo Fayose that some of its aspirants planned to monetise Saturday’s governorship primary, describing it as figment of his imagination.

The party, through its State Publicity Secretary, Chief Taiwo Olatunbosun said what the governor had just displayed by raising “false alarm” was a sign that he was afraid of an impending loss by his party of the July gubernatorial election.

” Fayose is frustrated and jittery, let him mind his business. He is not a member of our party so I don’t know where he is picking his information from.

” APC is not like his own party, the Peoples Democratic Party that has stolen our commonwealth and plunged the nation into a state of coma

“Yes, we will mobilise our members for the primary but the allegation that we are sharing that kind of money by the governor is laughable

” We will do everything that is right and within the constitution to send him out of the Government House, so let him start packing.

“No amount of blackmail will stop or derail us. The Ekiti people are set for the APC and we will make sure we produce a candidate that is acceptable to the people.”he said.

At a press conference earlier on Wednesday, Fayose raised the alarm over alleged movement of heavy cash into the state by some unidentified aspirants of the APC.

He said such monies were meant to compromise the delegates.

He claimed that the governorship election slated for July 14 in the state might also be compromised by the use of cash, going by the alleged desperation of the aspirants who are jostling for the ticket of the APC.

According to him, the way the exercise was being compromised in the build up to ordinary primary, showed that the APC was merely paying lip service to the war against corruption.

The Governor wondered where the money being spent by the alleged and unidentified aspirants was coming from.

Fayose claimed that one particular aspirant gave each delegate N250,000, and another gave N500,000, with a promise to offer them N1million each onSaturday, the day of the party primary.

He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other relevant agencies to beam their searchlight into the alleged monetisation of the electoral processes in the state and avoid a repeat of same scenario when it comes to the gubernatorial election proper.

  • Governor Fayose commissions roads in Rivers state

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has commissioned the reconstructed High Street and Rehabilitated Prof Okujiagu Street and Danjuma Drive, Off Odili Road, Trans Amadi, Port Harcourt.

This is as Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike declared that he will continue to give Rivers people the best, because they deserve sustained development.

Commissioning the roads constructed by the Wike administration, Governor Fayose commended the Rivers State Governor for his excellent performance and the delivery of projects.

He commended Governor Wike for being a credible voice for the people in these perilous times.

“Commissioning has become an attitude for Governor Wike. Everyday, there is a new project. I commend him for transformingthe state “, he said.

The Ekiti State Governor who likened the Rivers State Governor to the Biblical Daniel who has remained upright, noted that Governor Wike has contributed meaningfully to the development of the country.

He said: “Only PDP states are working in the country. We will not allow our voices to be brought down”.

In his remarks, Governor Wike said that the companies and residents around the area would testify to the transformation of the key roads in the economic zone.

He assured the people of Rivers State that he will remain focused on the development of the state because of his passion for the state .

He said while other leaders have links to other states, everything about him revolves around Rivers State.

The governor said that those who had the opportunity to serve the state but failed to make impact, should stop peddling falsehood about projects in the state.

He said: “The people know the truth and the truth will always prevail. For instance, we have tranformed Borokiri, which was abandoned by the immediate past administration “.

Commissioner of Works, Rt Hon Dum Dekor said that the new roads have revived the economy of the area. He said before the reconstruction of the roads, residents could not ply the roads.

He said that the road was a refuse dump site, necessitating the piling of the road for more than three metres. The commissioner said that though the contractor was given eighteen months, through proper funding, the road was completed in 12months.

Caretaker Committee Chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Amadi Oparaeli thanked the Rivers State Governor for executing key projects in the area.

  • Death penalty: Gov. Fayose faults proposed hate speech bill

Governor Peter Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has faulted Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi-sponsored bill that recommends death penalty for purveyors of hate speech.

In a statement today, Fayose said public office holders are responsible to the people, and hence, there is need for the people to assess and tell those in power the truth, whether it augur with them or not.

“Those of us occupying public offices are doing so in trust for the people, we are not their lords. The power of the people is greater than the power of the people in power.

“When you say the truth to power, tell those of us in power what we are doing wrong, it is not Hate Speech. Rather, it is patriotism.

“If you are in power and afraid of Nigerians telling you the bitter truth, resign and go to your house,” the Ekiti state executive Governor said.

TheNewsGuru reports the hate speech bill proposes that anyone found guilty of any form of hate speech could face death by hanging upon conviction.

Senator Abdullahi explaining why death penalty was included in the bill said the hate speech bill has slated some processes which must be exhausted before a person is subjected to the maximum punishment.

“On this issue of Hate Speech, I stand with Nigerians and anything they say to make the country better,” Fayose, however, said.

  • Alleged Probe: Fayose inaugurates panel to probe predecessor, Kayode Fayemi

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State on Monday inaugurated a judicial commission of enquiry to investigate allegations of fraud against his immediate predecessor, and current Minister for Steel and Minerals Resources Development, Kayode Fayemi.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that this followed a resolution passed by the Ekiti State House Assembly some weeks ago, which directed the governor to pursue the investigations given that the minister failed to appear before the house when summoned the come and testify.

The assembly had accused Fayemi of diverting funds belonging to the state Universal Basic Education Board while serving as governor of the state.

But the minister denied any wrong doing, saying the house and the state government were out to tarnish his image.

Fayemi had also derided the house for the call for his investigation, saying the case in question was before a court of law.

Fayose, while constituting the panel in Ado Ekiti, explained that the move was in compliance with the resolution of the House of Assembly.

“In compliance with the resolution of the State House of Assembly and pursuant to the powers conferred on Mr. Governor in section 2 of the Ekiti State Commission of Enquiry Cap C10 Laws of Ekiti State, 2012, His Excellency, Governor Peter Ayodele Fayose, has set up a Judicial Commission of Enquiry to look into the financial transactions of the state between 2010 and 2014,” the governor’s speech read on his behalf by the Secretary to State Government, Modupe Alade, said.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that the commission is headed by retired Justice, Silas Oyewole, of the Ekiti State High Court.

It has as its terms of reference, to ascertain how much Ekiti State Government received as statutory allocations during the period under review and how same were disbursed.

The commission is also to “look into the financial transactions of Ekiti State between 2010 and 2014; ascertain the amount received on behalf of the State from the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC); investigate the allegations of fraud/loss of funds, including the diversion and conversion of the UBEC funds; ascertain the amount that the Ekiti State Government took as loans during the period under review and how they were utilized.”

It was also mandated to consider all other issues relating to the finances of the Ekiti State Government within the period under review, and to make appropriate recommendations to the Ekiti State Government.

“This is no witch-hunt because severally, the State House of Assembly, that is conferred with the power to look into the finances of the state, has invited former governor John Kayode Fayemi to clarify some issues bothering on the finances of the state such as the SUBEB funds which was mismanaged and others,” Mrs. Aladje said.

“But despite having been invited for three times, he has refused to honour the invitation.

“Since he has refused to do that, the governor, acting on the directives by the state Assembly and the powers conferred on him by the constitution, has set up this judicial Commission of Enquiry.”

Ekiti State Attorney General, Owoseni Ajayi, said the setting up of the enquiry was in strict compliance with section two of the Ekiti State Law on the establishment of Judicial Commission of Enquiry.

“Fortunately, this particular law was signed into Law in 2012 by Dr. Kayode Fayemi, which means it is an extant Law, a Law of the state and not intended to witch-hunt anybody,” he said.

“The Commission is a fact finding one and there is no cause for anybody to be afraid of the proceedings of the Commission which is quasi-judiciary and would be in the open court and not hidden from anybody.”

Ajayi assured that the principles of fair hearing would be upheld as all parties must be given a fair hearing in the proceedings.

“It is not at all targeted at former governor Kayode Fayemi in person, but it is to find facts as to how the finances of the state were dispensed under that administration,” he said.

“So, if anybody is called upon by that Commission, and served adequate notice through a medium by which they can be informed, and they abdicated their right to defend or present facts contrary to what is presented, then they will be taken as if they have abandoned their right of fair hearing and any judgement passed thereof would be binding on such persons.”

Your panel, a waste of time, Fayemi fires back

However, in a swift reaction, the Minister for Steel and Minerals Resources Development and former governor of the state, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, described the judicial commission inaugurated by his successor (Fayose) on Monday as “an exercise in futility”.

Yinka Oyebode, Special Assistant on Media to the minister said in a statement that the governor’s action was at variance with the laws of the land which makes it subjudice for anyone to entertain a matter that is already before a court of competent jurisdiction.

“It is obvious, Governor Fayose is desperate to probe the administration of his predecessor in office, Dr Kayode Fayemi, for personal vendetta. Yet, he is advised to be guided by the rule of law and decency in this wild goose chase.

“The Governor and members of the panel are reminded that the two cases involving the House of Assembly, its leadership and top officials of the present administration are still pending In an Abuja High Court and a Federal High Court in Ado, thus making it an act of illegality for another panel to look into the matter.

“The governor is advised to concentrate on the serious task of governance and refrain from shadow chasing which the current pursuit of personal vendetta through a kangaroo committee clearly represents,” he added.

  • Ekiti APC blasts Pastor Adeboye over support for Fayose, alleges bribery

Ekiti APC blasts Pastor Adeboye over support for Fayose, alleges bribery

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has expressed its displeasure over comments made by the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Adeboye commending the State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, for what he called the governor’s courage and willingness to defend his people and the cause of the common man in the country.

The party said it was alarmed that a cleric of Pastor Adeboye’s standing could praise Governor Fayose for his persistent insults and abuses on President Muhammadu Buhari, noting that Pastor Adeboye should be seen as speaking for himself and his comment must not be seen as representing that of the entire members of the RCCG.

In a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Sunday and signed by State Chairman of the party, Chief Jide Awe, the party alleged that Fayose could have bribed Pastor Adeboye with huge amount of money to get such endorsement, which they are now circulating everywhere.

Recall that Pastor Adeboye had during his tour of the country to the state as part of the church’s annual ‘Let’s Go A Fishing” programme, said to Fayose: “We thank God for your courage, for your boldness, we thank God for your being willing to take risks so that your people can be protected. You have been a governor who knows when to say enough is enough in defence of his people. And I’m sure you know what I’m talking about and I am sure the world knows. I don’t want to say more than that but be assured that we are praying for you and you will succeed in Jesus name.”

Awe said Governor Fayose is a man that can bribe even angel of God to endorse the devil, warning Pastor Adeboye to avoid what will make the people of Ekiti to rise against him.

The APC said that Pastor Adeboye choosing this period of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ to embark on praise singing of a character like Fayose is to say the least, preposterous.

The party chairman called on members of the RCCG, especially families of the founder, Pa Josiah Akindayomi to call Pastor Adeboye to order before he destroys the church with his involvement in politics.

He said Pastor Adeboye must not be allowed to destroy the legacies of the founder of the Redeemed Church and the entire members of the church.

Awe said Pastor Adeboye should be reminded that Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, is a staunch member of the RCCG and what is expected of the Cleric was support for members of his church, not praise singing of Fayose.
