    Police detain co-wife in connection with 3-month-old baby’s death

    The police command in Kaduna State says it has arrested a co-wife in Malari Village in Soba Local Government of the state for alleged infanticide of her co-wife three-month-old baby boy.

    The command Spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan confirmed this, in a statement, on Friday in Kaduna.

    Hassan said, “The  tragic incident occurred on May 13, at their residence.

    He said preliminary investigations revealed that the second wife, Maryam Ibrahim, had briefly stepped out, leaving her baby in her room.

    ”Upon her return, she found her co-wife, names withheld, holding the baby.

    “The co-wife handed the child back to Maryam, who immediately noticed foam coming out of the baby’s mouth and an injury on his neck.

    “The child, who was crying, was immediately rushed to the village hospital , where he was unfortunately confirmed dead,” Hassan said.

    He said following the incident, detectives at Soba Police Station swung into action and apprehended the co-wife.

    He added that during interrogation, she allegedly confessed to the crime and revealed that she conspired with her husband’s younger brother, who was currently at large.

    Hassan said that her husband’s brother, names withheld, allegedly provided her with the acid she used in committing the act.

    Hassan said the Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad had assured the public that all the suspects found complicit in the heinous crime would be prosecuted.

    Police arrest 8 suspects for killing, burying baby in Maiduguri hospital

    The Police Command in Borno has arrested eight suspects for allegedly killing and secretly burying a new born baby at a private hospital in Kwatam on Baga road, Maiduguri.

    The command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Nahun Daso, disclosed this in an interview with NAN in Maiduguri on Saturday.

    Daso said the incident occurred on April 18, 2025, at about 1:00 p.m., following a distress call received by the police from concerned residents who witnessed the suspicious act.

    He explained that the police operatives from Ite Division responded swiftly, cordoned off the hospital premises, and arrested the suspects at the scene.

    According to him, the forensic experts were deployed to the location, and the body of the baby was exhumed for examination.

    He said the suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

    The PPRO urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support police efforts in ensuring public safety.

    She disclosed this via her official Instagram page on Sunday, describing it as ‘the purest form of love’.

    Nengi posted clips from her pregnancy journey up until the moment of her baby’s birth.

    “My greatest blessing, my heart in human form, my purpose.

    “God knew I needed you my baby…I love you more than words could ever explain.

    “It’s us forever,” she said.

    Former Real Madrid defender Vinicius Tobias recently had a tattoo of his baby’s name on his arm, only to later find out that he is not the biological father.

    The 20-year-old Brazilian right-back, currently playing for Shakhtar Donetsk, and his ex-wife, Ingrid Lima, welcomed a baby girl, Maite, on October 8. To mark the occasion, Tobias got a tattoo that reads, “Maite, I love you” on his arm.

    However, according to reports from The Sun UK, Ingrid revealed that their relationship had been unstable around the time Maite was conceived. She confirmed that a DNA test proved Tobias is not the biological father.

    In a social media post, Ingrid addressed the situation, saying, “I came to give a statement about something that is getting annoying and that, unfortunately, I would have to come out publicly to give you an explanation.”

    She further explained, “Vinicius and I haven’t been together for a while. During that time, I was in a relationship with someone and so was he. We both moved on with our lives. In the meantime, Maite came along. We decided to do a DNA test, and Maite is not Vinicius’ daughter.”

    As of now, Tobias has not made any public comments regarding the DNA test results.

    A murder investigation has been launched into the parents of a 3-year-old child who died of starvation in Austria.

    Police in the western Austrian state of Tyrol said on Wednesday that emergency services were informed of the child’s death in the district of Kufstein, near the border to Germany,earlier on Monday.

    “According to preliminary autopsy results, the child died due to severe malnutrition,” the police said.

    The parents, Austrian nationals aged 25 and 26, were arrested, while their three surviving children aged between 1 and 6 years old were placed in the care of child welfare services.

    Police in Lagos State have arrested a mother for attempting to kill her sick child, using a poisonous insecticide, “Sniper’’.

    Police spokesman in the state, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, told NAN on Saturday that the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, reported the attempt to the police on Friday.

    He said the chief security officer at the hospital reported to the police that the mother brought her one-year-and-seven months’ old daughter to the hospital for treatment.

    He added that the mother confessed to a doctor at the hospital that she gave the child “Sniper’’ to drink on Sunday when her convulsion was not abating.

    “The mother said she gave the liquid to her child so she could rest from her excessive convulsions.

    “Detectives were immediately dispatched to the hospital where they met the baby receiving treatment.

    “The mother has been taken in for investigation after the child had received treatment,’’ Hundeyin said.

    Police in Lagos State are on a manhunt for the buyer of a baby stolen by a house help in Shomolu area of the state.

    Police spokesman in the state, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed on Monday that the buyer abandoned the baby as the police dragnet was closing in.

    “In the early hours of Monday, the buyer abandoned the baby at Alade Market, Shomolu, because of intense manhunt and pressure from the police.

    “The baby was promptly rescued by the police. She has been handed over to her parents after they positively identified her,’’ Hundeyin stated.

    An X user, simply identified as @Simmm_K raised alarm in a Saturday post that a house help absconded with the baby belonging to her boss.

    “A house help ran away with my colleague’s baby this Saturday morning between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. in Shomolu,’’ the X user posted.

    @Simmm_K, who shared the picture of the teenage house help and the baby, appealed to the police and members of the public to help to find the baby.

    She also posted a telephone number to be reached whenever or wherever the house help or baby was found.

    She later updated the post stating that the house help had been arrested at Ikorodu, but without the baby.

    According to Simmm_K, the house help confessed to have sold the baby for N800,000.

    Simmm_K further updated her post that the baby had been found in the early hours on Monday.

    “I’m glad to notify everyone that the baby was found this morning at Shomolu.

    “Many thanks to everyone and the police for helping. The baby is united with the family,’’ she posted.

    A 10-day-old abandoned baby recovered by a good Nigerian has been handed over to the police, the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Benjamin Hundeyin, has said.

    Hundeyin, who disclosed this to the NAN on Friday, said that the baby was discovered on Wednesday at about 10.30 p.m. behind the window of a house, at Akindiya Street, Agege area of Lagos.

    He said that a good Nigerian brought the baby to Pen Cinema Police Division, Agege, on Thursday at about 10.00 a.m.

    “The baby has been taken to Juvenile/Woman Centre, Alakara, in Mushin Local Government Area of Lagos, onward transfer to orphanage home, Alausa, Ikeja.

    “Investigation is ongoing on how to track the mother of the child,” he said.

    Wickedness of the highest order was displayed by a 28-year-old man, Misbahu Salisu, who allegedly poisoned his day-old baby girl to death because he prefers a male child.

    The man, a resident of Doka Baici, Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State, was on Friday arrested by the Kano State Hisbah Board.

    According to a statement issued by the Deputy Commander General, Operations, Dr Mujahid Aminudeen, the suspect had informed officials of the board that he gave the day-old baby a local insect killer.

    The suspect also alleged to have drugged the mother of the baby, Sa’ade, with a cup of tea that contained sleeping tablets before allegedly carrying out his criminal act.

    “The suspect confessed to the crime, saying he preferred a male child but his wife gave birth to a female, which prompted him to end the baby’s life,” the statement said.

    He has been handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.

    Baby rescued from pit toilet in Anambra state dies

    A baby who was rescued from a pit toilet in Anambra State three days after he was delivered has given up the ghost.

    TheNewsGuru.com reports that baby’s mother identified as Nwaedoka Chidimma from Izzi in Ebonyi State, had gone to use the pit toilet before dumping the baby in it shortly after it was given birth to.

    The ugly incident was said to have happened in Anambra East Local Government Area, where she had gone to carry out a farming job.

    The child was thereafter rescued from the pit toilet on Tuesday after residents heard him crying and they alerted security agents and the state Ministry of Women and Social Welfare.

    Following the development, the child was rushed to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka, where he was given medical attention.

    Chidinma Ikeanyionwu, the Media Assistant to the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, disclosed the news of the baby’s death to journalists on Thursday.

    Ikeanyionwu stated that the news of the baby’s death was received late on Wednesday after treatment commenced at the hospital.

    “All efforts to resuscitate the baby including administration of oxygen and fluids with cardiopulmonary resuscitation by the hospital proved abortive,” she said.
