Cristiano Ronaldo describes reports of him quitting Portugal camp as “outside noise”

Portuguese professional footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo, has reacted to speculations that he wanted to leave Portugal’s World Cup camp, describing it as “outside noise”.

He insisted that the squad is “too strong to be broken by outside forces.”

The former Man. United striker irked his manager, Fernando Santos after he appeared unhappy in their 2-1 loss to South Korea.

When he was dropped by his coach for their last-16 clash against Switzerland – which they won 6-1, he was said to have threatened to fly home.

But Portugal later hit out at the rumours, saying Ronaldo “builds up a unique track record every day at the service of the national team and the country, which must be respected and which attests to the unquestionable degree of commitment to the national team.”

The 37-year-old has broken his silence since the reports emerged, insisting Portugal was too ‘close’ and ‘brave’ to be affected by outside noise.

In a tweet, the forward wrote: ‘A group too close to be broken by outside forces. A nation too brave to let itself be frightened by any adversary.

“A team in the truest sense of the word, which will fight for the dream until the end! Believe with us! Strength, Portugal!”

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that Ronaldo has won five Ballon d’Or awards and four European Golden Shoes, the most by a European player. He has won 32 trophies in his career, including seven league titles, five UEFA Champions Leagues, and the UEFA European Championship.

Ronaldo holds the records for most appearances (183), goals (140), and assists (42) in the Champions League, goals in the European Championship (14), international goals (118), and international appearances by a European (195).

He is one of the few players to have made over 1,100 professional career appearances and has scored over 800 official senior career goals for the club and country. He is the only male player to score in five World Cup tournaments.

Ronaldo began his senior career with Sporting CP, before signing with Manchester United in 2003, at age 18, winning the FA Cup in his first season. He would also go on to win three consecutive Premier League titles, the Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup; at age 23, he won his first Ballon d’Or.

The striker was the subject of the then-most expensive association football transfer when he signed for Real Madrid in 2009 in a transfer worth €94 million (£80 million), where he won 15 trophies, including two La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey, and four Champions Leagues, and became the club’s all-time top goalscorer.

He won back-to-back Ballons d’Or in 2013 and 2014, and again in 2016 and 2017, and was runner-up three times behind Lionel Messi, his perceived career rival. In 2018, he signed for Juventus in a transfer worth an initial €100 million (£88 million), the most expensive transfer for an Italian club and for a player over 30 years old.

He won two Serie A titles, two Supercoppa Italiana trophies and a Coppa Italia, before returning to United in 2021. He left in 2022.

Ronaldo made his international debut for Portugal in 2003 at the age of 18 and has since earned over 190 caps, making him Portugal’s most-capped player. With more than 100 goals at the international level, he is also the nation’s all-time top goalscorer.

He has scored at 11 major tournaments; he scored his first international goal at Euro 2004, where he helped Portugal reach the final. The Portuguese striker assumed the captaincy of the national team in July 2008. In 2015, Ronaldo was named the best Portuguese player of all time by the Portuguese Football Federation.

The following year, he led Portugal to their first major tournament title at Euro 2016, and received the Silver Boot as the second-highest goalscorer of the tournament. He also led them to victory in the inaugural UEFA Nations League in 2019, receiving the top scorer award in the finals, and later received the Golden Boot as top scorer of Euro 2020.

One of the world’s most marketable and famous athletes, Ronaldo was ranked the world’s highest-paid athlete by Forbes in 2016 and 2017 and the world’s most famous athlete by ESPN from 2016 to 2019. He is the first footballer and the third sportsman to earn US$1 billion in his career.

Casillas rejects Courtois’ position in Ballon d’Or ranking

Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas slammed the Ballon d’Or count after seeing Thibaut Courtois finish seventh in the running.

Courtois ended up in seventh place, but former Real goalkeeper Casillas feels he should have ranked far higher after he received the Yashin award for the best goalkeeper.

The Spaniard believes that Courtois is by far the best goalkeeper in the world and deserved more recognition.

Casillas wrote on Twitter: “I’m very happy for Thibaut Courtois!

“With a huge difference, the best goalkeeper in the world. What I’m not happy about is that he was not included in the final podium for the Ballon d’Or.

“I still don’t understand what those who choose this award are based on.”

Cristiano Ronaldo suffers worst Ballon d’Or ranking

Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has suffered his worst ever Ballon d’Or ranking.

Ronaldo is a five-time winner of the prestigious individual award, first winning it in 2008 with United.

Last year saw the star forward finish sixth, which at the time was his lowest position ever.

But the Portugal captain has plummeted to new depths after a questionable start to the season and finished 20th.

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema was crowned the winner on Monday night.

Real Madrid star, Benzema reacts after first Ballon d’Or win

Real Madrid and France forward, Karim Benzema has reacted after winning the Ballon d’Or for the first time in his footballing career, saying anything is possible if one never gives up on his dreams.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Benzema won the 2022 Ballon d’Or award for the best men’s player in the world on Monday.

Benzema, who played a pivotal role in Real’s run to the Champions League title last season, is the first French player to win the trophy since Zinedine Zidane in 1998 and the fifth after Raymond Kopa, Michel Platini and Jean-Pierre Papin.

“This prize in front of me makes me really proud. When I was small, it was a childhood dream, I never gave up… Anything is possible,” Benzema said on stage at the ceremony.

“There was a difficult period when I wasn’t in the French team but I never gave up. I’m really proud of my journey here.

“It wasn’t easy, it was a difficult time for my family as well.”

Benzema beat Poland’s Robert Lewandowski, Sadio Mane of Senegal and Belgium’s Kevin De Bruyne after Argentina’s Lionel Messi won the award for a record seventh time last year.

Benzema had a stellar season with Real, scoring 44 goals in 46 games in all competitions as he helped guide them to a LaLiga and Champions League double.

His 15 goals in the Champions League guided Real Madrid to a record-extending 14th title.

Real Madrid made remarkable comebacks from losing positions in the last-16, quarter-finals and semi-finals against Paris St Germain, Chelsea and Manchester City respectively — with Benzema scoring in each of the second legs.

The highlight of their European campaign was the 3-1 win in the second leg against PSG when the Spanish club were 2-0 down on aggregate, with Benzema grabbing a 17-minute hat-trick in the second half to stun the Ligue 1 side.

Meanwhile, Spanish international and FC Barcelona’s midfielder Alexia Putellas won the women’s Ballon d’Or for a second straight year, beating England’s European Championship winner Beth Mead and Australia’s Sam Kerr.

Putellas, who was also named FIFA Best Women’s Player earlier this year, was top scorer in the Champions League last season with 11 goals and scored 18 in the Primera Division.

The 28-year-old missed the Euros for Spain, however, after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury on the eve of the tournament in England.

Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois won the Lev Yashin award for the best goalkeeper last season, with the towering shot stopper making nine saves in the final to keep a clean sheet against Liverpool in a 1-0 victory in Paris.

However, the teams in the Champions League final lost out on the Best Club award, which went to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City who won a fourth Premier League title in five years.

FC Barcelona’s 18-year-old midfielder Gavi picked up the Kopa Trophy for the best under-21 player, while Bayern Munich forward Sadio Mane won the inaugural Socrates award, with the Senegal international recognised for his humanitarian efforts.

Lewandowski did not go home empty handed either as he picked up the Gerd Muller Trophy for the best striker after scoring 50 goals in all competitions for Bayern last season.

Karim Benzema should win Ballon d’Or only if… – Lewandowski

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski expects Real Madrid star Karim Benzema to win the Ballon d’Or.

In an interview with #Vamos, the Barcelona goalscorer recalled his pain at the Ballon d’Or snub, as well as discussing Los Cules’ current campaign.

After missing out on the award in such difficult circumstances, the Barcelona forward admitted he hopes the same doesn’t happen to Benzema in 2022.

“The Ballon d’Or is likely to be won by Benzema… if they don’t cancel it,” he joked.

Barcelona’s 3-3 draw with Inter was a hammer blow to the club’s Champions League campaign, yet Lewandowski is convinced his team will bounce back.

“After a bad game you have to face reality in the best way, show that you can play good football and win,” he detailed.

“It’s a bit of a difficult moment but we know we have the opportunity in the Clasico, to go out there and win the game.

“After the disappointment of the Champions League game, we have the opportunity to change our mentality and that of our fans. It’s a huge challenge.

“I think its history, everything that happens around it means it’s one of the games of the year.”

The former Bayern Munich striker has made a superb start to his Barca career.

He said while speaking to the Polish media: “Winning the Ballon d’Or? I know that Barcelona is the team where the most players have won the Ballon d’Or.
