Music mogul Banky Wellington shared the remarkable story of his journey to earning a Master’s degree in Policy Management from Georgetown University.

The 44-year-old shared the news with fans on Tuesday via Instagram, posting photos from the graduation ceremony alongside family and friends.

According to  the father of two, the past few years have been a season of growth, reflection, and resilience. He emphasized the importance of taking time to step off the dance floor and onto the balcony to reflect on one’s journey, identity, and aspirations

In his words: “The past few years have been a stretching season for my family and I. I learned that you can’t pour from an empty cup, and so sometimes, it is necessary to step off the dance floor and onto the balcony… to reflect on how far you have come, who you are, and who you would like to become. Because success in life and leadership isn’t just about a specific destination or the journey to get there, but about who you become along the way.”

The father of two spoke on how balancing his academic responsibilities with parenting two young children in the US, including the birth of his second child, Hezekiah Oluwadarasimi Wellington, during the program, was undoubtedly a daunting task.

“I’m even more grateful that we welcomed our 2nd child – Hezekiah Oluwadarasimi Wellington into the world in the middle of earning this degree in Washington DC.

Parenting 2 children in the US, while earning a full-time Master’s and serving as a Fellow on Capitol Hill all at the same time was completely exhausting, but by the grace of God, the strength of faith and the support of family, friends and mentors, we did it!

So as I prepare to step off the balcony and return to the dance floor, I hope you take this as a sign that it’s never too late to dream a new dream, or redefine the ending of an existing one.”

  • Eti-Osa Fed Constituency: Banky W loses at Court of Appeal

Eti-Osa Fed Constituency: Banky W loses at Court of Appeal

The court of Appeal has declared the Labour Party candidate, Thaddeus Atta, as the duly elected House of Representatives member representing Eti Osa Federal Constituency in Lagos State.

Recall  that the National Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, had in September declared the election inconclusive.

The tribunal ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a supplementary election within 90 days in 33 polling units where elections were not held.

However, on Tuesday the court of Appeal overturned the verdict of election tribunal and ruled that elections in Eti-Osa were conclusive.

In the said election, famous Nigerian singer and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Bankole Wellington, known as Banky W, finished second and Ibrahim Babajide Obanikoro, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) finished third in the elections according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)

Re-run not automatic win but opportunity for Obanikoro, Banky W

Invalidation of the election of Mr Thaddeus Attah, Labour Party Candidate for Eti-Osa Federal Constituency of Lagos State has opened a door of opportunity for his opponents.

It is however  not an assurance that any of the opponents will win if they do not put in hard-work.

A human rights activist and lawyer, Mr Malachy Ugwummadu, made the assertion in an interview with NAN on Tuesday in Lagos.

Ugwummadu noted that the tribunal judgment, which nullified Attah’s election, had given  room for Mr Babajide Obanikoro of the  All Progressives Congress and Mr Bankole Wellington of the Peoples Democratic Party  to spread their tentacles for a better chance to win the re-run election.

According to Ugwummadu, the immediate past National President of the Committee for Defence of Human Rights, elections are  contests in which there are bound to be  losers and winners.

Ugwummadu, the immediate past National President of the Committee for Defence of Human Rights,  said that election was a game of number and popularity; therefore, the winner must work harder.

He said: “Having accepted the jurisprudence and the nature of Nigeria’s politics, it has now come within the purview of what is permissible under the law and under the Electoral Act that this situation will happen.

“The candidates who had lost the election will now have the opportunity to go into the same race, perhaps mobilise a lot more.

“If an election is nullified based on technical grounds, that should not give those who lost automatic victory, as they  will have to work more than they did in the past.”

A three-man panel led by Justice Farouk Bunza on Monday ordered the Independent  National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a re-run  election within 90 days in 32 disputed polling units in Eti-Osa Federal Constituency.

INEC had on Feb. 25, declared Attah the winner of the House of Representatives election.
