Banky W made this known in a chat with This Day: “When I first had the conversation with my wife, she said she was worried about me getting into politics in Nigeria because it’s dirty and dangerous… and she didn’t want anything to soil me or harm me. I told her that yes she was right. Politics in Nigeria is very dirty and dangerous, but that’s because the good people always avoid it.

“So, it will remain dirty and dangerous forever unless people with the right intentions and who want good for Nigeria, start to be a part of the people that are trying to change Nigeria. We complain about it but we never want to get involved. So for me, part of the goal is to inspire other credible individuals in our country to stand up and be the change we so desperately need. “

I feel like I am the doing the best that I can to impact my generation and to impact my community.People who have followed my trajectory over the last ten years of me being relevant in the entertainment industry, I have been involved in some youth develop initiatives like ‘Light up Naija’, ‘Enough is Enough’, ‘Occupy Naija’. I have always been trying to use my voice to speak for young people and to young people”.

  • Banky W to auction car for charity after being trolled

Nigerian Music star, Olubankole Wellington, a.k.a Banky W says his nine- year old Range Rover Sports will be auctioned for charity.

The car had been a subject of ridiculed when two ladies released a video `dragging and stalking’ Banky on social media for driving an old car in spite of his class and status.

The music star and actor disclosed this in a video posted on his Instagram page, stating that the car had served him for nine years and it was time to let it go for charity course.

He said that the money would be donated to “Vocational School for the Blind” in Oshodi, Lagos and the “Pink Oak Cancer Trust Fund”.

“This Range Rover has been so good to my Madam and I, but this Saturday, Nov 24 we are auctioning it to raise money for The School for the Blind, and for @pinkoaktrust…

“If you’re looking for a used Car, buy this piece of Nigerian Pop Culture history instead. It has been in more videos and movies than any other option out there lol.

“It was also the subject of a stalker video some months ago. Point being, it’s famous, and these charities need our help.

“So come through on Saturday and bid on this and many more cars… Hit up @cars45ng @carsbazr with any questions #Carsbazrliveauctuon #Cars45BankyWCharityChallenge #BuyBankysRange #hope19,” he captioned the video.
“Also, it is a 2008 Range Rover Sport, not a 1999. Amen and Lol. Oh, and additionally, it’s currently for sale to the highest bidder.

“I had decided last month that I’d sell it, and whatever I got for it, I’d hand over to the “Vocational School for the Blind” in Oshodi and the “Pink Oak Cancer Trust Fund.’’

Banky W further explained that the car would be auctioned online with autograph of his celebrity friends to enable him raise funds to support his aunt, who works as a volunteer in the school.

“You see, I’ve never found it necessary to own more than one car. Mostly because I can only ever DRIVE one car at a time; and when I bought the car in 2011, I promised myself that I would never buy another car until I owned the home I live in.

“To me, owning a nice car might help me LOOK like I was doing okay, but owning a nice home would help me KNOW. The way my mind is set up…what good is owning a Rolls Royce, if I’m still paying rent on the house I park it in?” he wrote.

He started singing at a young age in the church choir and started his record label E.M.E in 2002 while still studying.

After moving to Nigeria in 2009, he established the label in Lagos.

Banky W has signed artists like Niyola, Shaydee, Skales and Wizkid to the label at the time.

His breakthrough debut studio album, Back in the Building was released in 2005.
He wrote the first theme song of Etisalat Nigeria titled “0809ja for life”.

This seat Banky is running for is fiercely contested by a few very qualified men.. I just know Banky has more to lose than any one else by doing this.. I stand with my friend for this election, against Party structures that dwarf his ambition, against a jaded constituency that have heard it all before, against a status quo that is as of yet undefeated!!!!! To say ‘win or learn.. victory is certain’.. and when we look back we will remember how Banky staked his career and business to take a stand.. on our behalf”, he wrote.

  • Blackface drags Wizkid, Banky W to court over ‘stealing’ his song

Ahmedu Augustine Obiabo, better known as Blackface, has sued Wizkid and Banky W over alleged intellectual property theft.

Blackface and Loudhouz Entertainment Limited are listed as plaintiffs in the suit while Empire Mates Entertainment, Starboy Entertainment, Wizkid and Banky W are the defendants.

Blackface is seeking a declaration that ‘Slow Whine’, a song on Wizkid’s debut ‘Superstar’ album, released on June 2011, is a reproduction of ‘Like The Way’, a record he put out in April 2010.

He alleges that the vocal rhythm, melodic progression and lyrical content of principal parts were ‘Stolen’ from his song.

Blackface is seeking a continuous injunction restraining Wizkid and Banky W from performing ‘Slow Whine’ for any commercial purpose.

The crooner also asked for an order stopping the marketing, distribution or any commercialisation of Wizkid’s ‘Superstar’ album, because the disputed song is on it.

Blackface also requested that the court gifts him N40 million as damages for “musical plagiarism” and infringement of his recording.

The entertainer also sought an order awarding him “additional exemplary damages” of N60 million “pursuant to Section 15 (4) (a) of the Copyright Act of Nigeria”.

He is also seeking a grant of two million naira as costs of the lawsuit. In total, the former Plantashun Boiz member is suing for N62 million.

Blackface revealed he has chosen to file the lawsuit because many people have infringed on his right as an artiste.

He said: “I have remained quiet while my name has been dragged in the mud the past few years. Some of Nigeria’s biggest artists have infringed on my copyrights but I always restricted myself to speaking out against this in the media.

“Maybe because I always felt that music is an art and not really a business where you bring in lawyers and all that. That’s why I couldn’t believe when I was sued for N50m by the same people who stole my intellectual property.

“I have nothing personal against Wizkid & Banky, in fact I can say I groove to both their music, but the fact is that they stole my song in 2011 and there’s clear evidence to prove it. We’ll allow the Court to decide.”

  • Politicians are playing with our country’s destiny- Banky W

Nigerian singer and showbiz entrepreneur, Banky W has called on young Nigerians to stop taking sides in heated arguments over political leaders in the country.

He made this known via his Twitter page, adding that all politicians are after their self-interest and playing with Nigeria’s destiny.

He wrote: “Politicians are playing musical chairs with our country’s destiny. Instead of us coming together and cancelling all of them, some of us are picking sides, fighting on their behalf and falsely accusing ourselves. News flash: They’re all out for self-interest. We need an entirely new path.

“It’s a chess game between two sides.. aren’t we tired of being pawns yet? No? We are just going to sit here and fight/falsely accuse ourselves, on behalf of leaders on both sides of the aisle, most of whom have clearly shown that we are the ones they care least about?

“Cancel all of em. It’s a chess game, and we are the pawns. It’s a damn comedy show, and the joke is on us. It has always been.

“Those of us that have registered to vote for 2019, vote with your conscience. But it isn’t just about 2019. It’s about building a new viable option going forward. Aren’t we sick of all of them already? Haven’t they all had enough chances to do and be better?

“I’m hoping to work with whoever wants to build something new. We have the numbers to do it. But we are busy playing their game and picking sides. We are no better than the generations that got us in this mess.”
