I joined Barca knowing they weren’t doing well financially – Aguero

Sergio Aguero says he joined Barcelona knowing he’d be taking a major cut on his Manchester City wages.

The striker says he signed for Barca aware of the club’s financial problems.

He told RAC1: “When we spoke money with Barca, I knew they weren’t doing well financially, but I told my agent the money didn’t matter, I wanted to go to Barcelona, sort it out.

“It wasn’t a problem. It was obvious I wasn’t going to earn what I earned at City here.”

Aguero added: “I won’t mark down numbers, but what I want is to win trophies. It’s the only thing that interests me. This is a team, we need everyone. If I score, hopefully it earns three points or gets us into the next round. I want to reach the end of the season and win trophies, not say I have scored 15 or 30 goals. That’s what’s important.”

Pjanic left Barca for Besiktas last week on a season-long loan.

“Besiktas wanted me strongly in the last days of the transfer market and I couldn’t stay in Barcelona with Koeman, I would have lost another year and I didn’t want to,” Pjanic told Tuttosport.

“Koeman had an attitude with me that no one understood, not even [Lionel] Messi. Leo, last year, told me several times: ‘But why doesn’t he let you play? Has something happened?.

“Besiktas are the Turkish champions, they are in the Champions League and… they have a black and white jersey. They welcomed me in a great way, it will be another great challenge.”

My Barca move wasn’t tied to Messi – Aguero

Barcelona summer signing Sergio Aguero insists he’s happy with his move from Manchester City.

There has been a lot of speculation that Lionel Messi’s exit would lead to Aguero following his compatriot out of the club, but the forward dismissed them out of hand.

“I didn’t understand why that was said,” Aguero told RAC1.

“Messi hadn’t signed when I signed. An invented clause was spoken about, but there was nothing. Then I got injured.”

It had been predicted that the Argentine would be out of action until November, but he is recovering ahead of schedule.

“I’m progressing well and next week I think I’ll work a bit on the pitch,” Aguero said.

“There’s no timeframe for when I’ll return, but I’m progressing well and it will be shorter than predicted.

“The last MRI looked good, but it’s best to see how things progress in the coming weeks.”

Pjanic wasn’t good enough – Koeman

Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman has dismissed criticism from Miralem Pjanic.

But Koeman responded to this Pjanic’s comments, defending himself.

“I think there’s some frustration on the player’s part and I understand that,” Koeman told Mundo Deportivo.

“However, in terms of how we play, our ideas with and without the ball, he’s fallen short of other midfielders.

“That’s it. I wish him all the best. It’s been complicated, but we tried and we saw that there are other players who are better than him.”

Guardiola was upset when I started dating Shakira – Pique

Barcelona defender, Gérard Pique has revealed that his relationship with Colombian music star, Shakira, had caused problems between him and former manager, Pep Guardiola.

Guardiola left Pique behind at Barcelona to join Bayern Munich and is now the Manager at Manchester City.

The Spaniard had a success-laden time at Camp Nou with the help of Pique and other top football stars.

However, reflecting on their time with Guardiola, Pique admitted that he came close to quitting Barcelona between the 2011 and 2012 campaigns when his bond with Shakira was tested.

“We reached an important point of tension with him and with the dressing room in general,” Pique told La Sotana.

“The rivalry with Jose Mourinho was very exhausting. Pep wanted absolute control of everything that happened.

“I started dating Shakira and the relationship with him changed; now the relationship is perfect. I had a lot of pressure. I felt that in training I had to do everything perfectly.

“If there was a moment in which I thought about leaving Barca, it was that season 2011-12. I suffered a lot in this last year with him.”

  • Why I approved Griezmann exit from Barca – Koeman

Why I approved Griezmann exit from Barca – Koeman

Barcelona head coach, Ronald Koeman has revealed why he approved the loan move of France international Antoine Griezmann to Atletico Madrid, TheNewsGuru reports.

The World Cup winner left the La Liga giant on transfer deadline day.

Koeman remarked: “It’s true, but you have to listen to the club and support it at a delicate time in terms of money. Griezmann is a Barca player with a very high contract and for the club it was very, very, very important to let him return to Atlético and not pay more for a three-year contract. And you, as a coach, say you want to help the club, but you need another striker.

“Antoine’s position is difficult for us to cover, but above all to help the club financially, it was important for him to leave.

“I was not adamant in that sense, because I could have said, ‘No, he won’t move from here’. Yes, it was the same for Griezmann, but with the aggravating circumstance that it happened on the last day, with hardly any time to find a solution. It was a shame. Griezmann had a big contract and if he left he was going to help improve the club’s economic situation. That’s why I accepted his departure.”

Griezmann left Barca last week for Atletico Madrid on-loan.

“He was not the player we needed,” admitted the Barcelona chief.

“I think he could have given more but the circumstances were complicated. Maybe he didn’t fit in the Barça system.”

He did say that Griezmann’s attitude “was always correct” and that he’s “very alive, last year he scored goals, especially in the Copa del Rey.”

I’ve not spoken to Messi since Barca exit – Laporta

Barcelona president Joan Laporta insists there’s no tension with Lionel Messi.

It’s been suggested Messi is furious with Laporta for refusing to renew his contract ahead of his shock departure to PSG.

But Laporta told Esport3: “We were both affected the day he left and it showed.

“I saw his debut with PSG and I didn’t like it, it was a weird, weird situation. It’s a team with which we have clashes. I haven’t spoken to him since he left. The story must continue.

“The story must continue as he will always be a Barcelona fan. What I must say is that there was no overflow during the negotiations. Everything is normal in this context. There was no friction neither with his father nor with him.”

Sergio Aguero is surprised by Barcelona’s approach to training.

The summer signing spoke to Ibai Llanos the Twitch streamer and said something surprising about the club’s training sessions.

“At (Manchester) City we arrived an hour and a half before training and here half an hour before,” said Aguero. “I said, well, I’ll come in at least an hour before and try and go to the gym or do some things, but nobody was there, it was all shut, dammit.”

Aguero has not debuted as a Barca player yet because he suffered an injury in pre-season. He is hoping to return in October.

The forward told Ibai he did not take Leo Messi’s No 10 shirt despite being offered it. He also said, of Messi’s PSG debut: “He was a bit lost on the pitch, but everything he touched he did well with.”

  • My family and I didn’t deserve Barca abuse – Ilaix

My family and I didn’t deserve Barca abuse – Ilaix

Ilaix Moriba has hit out at the abuse he has copped after leaving Barcelona for RB Leipzig.

After failing to agree a new contract he joined RB Leipzig for a fee of 16 million euros.

“The last few months have been the hardest of my life, we [my family] have received abusive messages but we have been able to get over it to be here today,” Moriba explained in his first interview since leaving Barcelona.

    “I don’t deserve these messages.”

Many have made Ilaix Moriba out to be the perpetrator of this move and having an open desire to leave the club. Leipzig’s new-signing then spoke of the difficulty he had in maintaining composure with all of the noise going on around him.

“They [people at the club] have said many things that are not true and we have had to keep tight-lipped because of the respect that we have for Barcelona,” the youngster explained.

“The things that they have said in the press have not been fair.”

During his short time at the Camp Nou, Ilaix Moriba looked to be following the same path set by Ansu Fati and more recently Pedri, who have both made huge impacts on the Barcelona first team despite their young age.

“I have improved at Barcelona with the support of the fans, but over the past few months they have not known how to behave,” Moriba continued.

“I am not going to judge the whole fanbase based off of these few people. I will always have Barcelona in my heart, it has been a complicated few months, but it has passed and I wish the best for the club, especially to Ansu, as I have seen that they have given him the No.10 shirt and he’s the most suitable one to wear it, I wish him the best.”
