    Basketmouth beef: I was told friendship is not by force, AY Comedian reveals

    Popular Nigerian comedian, Ayodeji Makun, aka AY, revealed that some senior colleagues in the comedy industry told him to slow down on  reconciling with his longtime industry rival, Basketmouth

    In a recent interview with Teju Babyface, AY disclosed he was told ‘friendship is not by force’.

    AY said, “The bros [senior colleagues in the comedy industry] knew [about my beef with Basketmouth] and at some point in time, they had to ask me to slow down. They were like: ‘You’re doing too much. You are putting in too much to make this thing work. Friendship is not by force.’

    “I was believing that ‘No, this can work’. Even in my last stand-up comedy, I had to go on stage and I did another routine ‘My guy. How’s my guy? This is my guy. If you see this guy, tell him he’s my guy.’ And the following morning, everywhere exploded again. ‘We are not friends. We are not that. We are not this.’

    “So, for me now, I’m not pushing anything anymore. As I’m here now as AY, if I have to go to my grave without sitting with any of these guys to say ‘hello, ‘hi,’ I will be happy.”

    The 17- year-old rift between Comedians Ayodele Makun aka AY  and Bright Okpocha popularly known as Basketmouth  is far from over.

    In an interview on Naija FM, Basketmouth explained why AY was refused entry to his wedding venue.

    According to Basketmouth, he never extended a wedding invite to Ay nor his wife, saying they must have gatecrashed the venue.

    Recall that AY had in an interview with Jude Chuwo noted that his wife name was on the entry list but his own name was missing, claiming that they both turned back to go back home.

    Continuing, AY said that his wife refused to enter the venue and leave him behind and she suggested that they both go back home.

    However, in a counter reaction, Basketmouth revealed that he didn’t even know who invited AY’s wife, claiming he wasn’t aware of her invitation.

    Both comedians have been at loggerheads over an issue that dated back to 17 years ago.

    Nigerian comedian and actor Julius Agwu has reacted to report that N30,000 is the cause of the feud between Ayodeji Makun, known as AY and Bright Okpocha, professionally called Basketmouth.

    Recall that AY had granted an interview with Jude Saying that his rift with Basketmouth started 17 years ago over a mere N30,000

    In his reaction to AY, Basketmouth said: “The thing is this, friendship for me is everything. I don’t mess around with friendship, I don’t mess around with loyalty. He (AY) came to my space and messed around with loyalty.

    “To be honest, I don’t want that guy (AY) to ever hear from me.”

    Adding that they were never friends.

    However, in an interview with Naija FM, Julius Agwu stated that there’s more to Basketmouth and AY’s feud than just the N30,000 payment. Insisting that there may be reasons Basketmouth is upset with AY, which he has not made clear.

    He said: “I don’t think it’s just N30,000. Maybe there’s more. Yes, na, we are at backstage we don’t know. There’s more to it that has not been made known.”

    “So it depends on them. Maybe Basketmouth is angry about another thing but has not made it clear.”

    Popular comedian, Bright Okpocha, aka Basketmouth, has finally broken his silence on the rift between him and fellow comedian Ayo Makun known as AY.

    TheNewsGuru.com reports that AY said that he started having issues with Basketmouth over N30,000 wedding MC money that wasn;t paid to him as and when due by Basketmouth.

    He said he stood-in for Basketmouth at an event but he attempted to outsmart him by lying that the client has not paid for the gig, which he later found out from the client to be false.

    But while featuring on the latest episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, hosted by media personality, Nedu, Basketmouth debunked AY’s claim, insisting that there was no client involved.

    According to him, he was never friends with AY, and that the working relationship they had was a one-off deal.

    He said, “It’s 2023, my kids don grow. My son is going to be 14 next month. Everybody don dey grow.

    “It is so sad say na this kind gist [my beef with AY] dey social media. 2023, after elections. After all these things. Ukraine dey fight war, we dey talk of 30 thousand [naira].

    “I been no want talk about this thing [my beef with AY]. Many people don ask questions and I don ignore. But just to set the record straight. Number 1, AY is not my friend. We have never been friends. I have never visited his house. I have never personally invited him to my house.

    “I never ever call am one day say ‘o boy, where you dey? Make we hangout’. Nothing like that don ever happen.

    “And it’s easy to tell, if you look around social media, you will never find a picture of him and me. So, we were never friends.

    “Make I talk the truth. The reason I used style mind my business, na because of when there was that coming together [between AY and I], I heard something that threw me off. I heard some things wey I no supposed hear or know. As I hear am, I was like ‘what the f*ck! Really?’ I no supposed know. And I no fit tell am [AY] so I kept quiet.

    “The kind of person I’m, I go wait make you do something first. All these ones wey him [AY] dey talk, no be wettin make me give am space be that. It’s something else!

    “That incident [30k] sef, I don forget. But I dey use that one as distractions because you know the kind person wey I be. If I dey talk right, I dey talk left because I no dey like make person know my moves.

    “That matter, no client dey involved o. In actual fact, when this matter come outside, when I first hear the thing I said ‘what?’ Like say na 20 per cent of wettin him talk be lie, I for don vex sef say you know what let me set it. But when 90 per cent of wettin him talk na lie. I still dey in shock. All my men dey laugh me because they warned me say ‘guy, be careful o’. And see wettin happen. The one job. And na one job. Him even come make am feel like say there was a tutorship or mentorship. You know the kind men wey dey around me, the funnymen. How I go jump them come dey give this guy [AY] show?

    “So, it was only one job. And that job when I heard say them never pay am. I told Magnums, ‘please, pay him’. And they paid him. He omitted that information. I know the move. The guy [AY] dey promote shows; he needs to sell tickets. That’s the truth.” (sic)

    Popular Comedian, Bright Okpocha, also known as Basketmouth, has reacted to claims by fellow comedian AY that 30,000 caused their 17-year-old rift.

    TheNewsGuru.con reports that  AY had in an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, claimed that they started to keep malice over an assignment that went bad.

    AY said “In 2006, Basketmouth usually had multiple wedding gigs on Saturdays’. So what he used to do at that point in time was to attend one, and at a point, leave the venue to catch up in the other venue.

    Continuing, he said “Now, one of the gigs that I got his endorsement to stand in at that time was N30,000 and 30,000 was everything to me at that time. “Two weeks later, I haven’t seen 30k. and I was starving. I decided to ask for 30K, and he said this person hasn’t paid. It was very funny to discover that the full payment was made before the event.”

    ”One day, I met Basket in the club with a glass of drink, and I said to him, How far, my guy? This thing that happened in 2006 guy drop am. And my dear colleague looked at me eyeball to eyeball and said, I’m a beast. I don’t forgive.”

    However, recently during his recent show ,when asked to comment on AY’s claims that 30,000 caused their rift, Basketnouth noted that he wouldn’t dignify him with a response.

    Basketmouth said, “To be honest, I don’t want that guy to ever hear from me.”

    A flashback interview where Bright Okpocha alias Basketmouth revealed what led to the age-long beef between him and Ayo Makun professionally known as Comedian AY has resurfaced online.

    TheNewsGuru.com reports that AY during an interview with popular media personality Chude Jideonwo, explained what led to their 17 years old rift.

    However, the interview led to a resurgence of Basketmouth’s old discussion on the beef which has continued to cause a stir on social media as netizens dig up an old video of Basketmouth in an interview with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu.

    According to Basketmouth, AY broke confidential information with a third party which was against the rule of engagement.

    Basketmouth said: “The thing is this, friendship for me is everything. I don’t mess around with friendship, I don’t mess around with loyalty. He (AY) came to my space and messed around with loyalty.

    “Though I don’t want to go into details, he said something I personally shared with him with my lawyer Magnus. And Magnus called me.”

    Comedian Ayodeji Makun, popularly known as AY Comedian, has continued to make startling revelations about his 17-years rift with fellow comedian Bright Okpocha aka Basketmouth.

    AY Makun made the disclosure during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo and it aired online.

    The part two of the interview, posted by Jideonwo on social media, revealed more about the longstanding rift that has left them as sworn enemies over the years.

    In the part two of the interview, AY revealed that he was embarrassed as he tried to attend Basketmouth’s wedding but was refused entry.

    He said: ”When we arrived, my wife’s name was on the guest list, but my own was noticeably missing. I was looking at my wife, my wife was looking at me, and she said, let’s be going home since you are not qualified to enter.”

    He further revealed how his name would be kicked out of events because Basketmouth was in attendance.

    “It’s so bad that my name will be removed from an event sometimes. Basket will be at an event. Maybe AY is on the bill, and he won’t introduce me if he’s the MC. I will just go and pick up my mic on the floor and go and do my thing. But I never gave up. Every opportunity, maybe the wife gives birth, I would go with my wife, or maybe something is going on. I kept doing everything.

    ”One day, Basket was in the club with a glass of drink, so I walked up to him. I said: Bright Okpocha (He’s my senior colleague but my junior in real), how far my guy. As you can see, God has blessed us. You have a house in Lekki, I have a house. You have a child. I have a child. This thing that happened in 2006 guy drop am.

    “And my dear colleague looked at me eyeball to eyeball and said, I’m a beast. I don’t forgive.”

    Ayodeji  Makun popularly known as AY Comedian has finally revealed what caused the rift between him and colleague Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth.

    Recall that sometimes last year, AY had during a question and answer session on his Instagram page, stated that Basketmouth has uncontrollable superiority complex, adding that he had to avoid his colleague’s incessant childishness to keep his sanity.

    AY Comdeian has now given a more detailed information on what caused the rift cum malice between him and Basketmouth during an interview with popular media personality Chude Jideonwo.

    According to AY “In 2006, Basketmouth usually had multiple wedding gigs on Saturdays’. That was the opportunity one got, of which I’m very appreciative of till date.

    “Now, One of the gigs that I got his endorsement to go stand in. Usually, what we get at that time is N30,000 and 30,000 at that time was everything to me. I got this job, and the people weren’t too happy to see me because they were expecting Basketmouth to come, but the guy was later happy after my performance. There was an exchange of contacts. Then I left.

    “Two weeks later, I haven’t seen 30k. Because I didn’t see the 30k, and I was starving, I decided to ask for 30K, and he said this person hasn’t remitted, this person hasn’t paid, And then i was like, but this person said he was impressed and happy? Me, I don’t care if you give Basketmouth 100k for the job, but my 30k is my 30k.

    “It was very funny to now heard from them that the full payment had been made long before the event. I forwarded their message to one another. So they now started fighting and all of that. 1 didn’t do that because I wanted to get at Basketmouth. But because I was hungry, I was hustling and I needed food on the table at the time.”

    Recall that Basketmouth, during a Black Box interview with media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu in 2021, noted that he fell out with AY because he messed with loyalty.

    Weeks after announcing his separation from his wife, and then bowing to pressure and taking down the divorce announcement post from social media, comedian and actor, Bright Okpocha, better known by his stage name Basketmouth, has reunited with his kids.

    Sharing video clips of his fun moments with them, Basketmouth on Instagram wrote “The ladies’ man” many of his followers have since gone into a jubilatory mood following the post.

    One Ojulewa wrote “Things we love to see, Beautiful daddies girls … may they continue to make you proud, may your home continue to be a testimony”

    Recall that the father of four ( Basketmouth) stirred reactions with the announcement of his crashed marriage on Thursday, December 22, 2022, where he assured to peacefully co-parent with his wife in taking care of their children.

    Interestingly, his 44-year-old wife, Elsie who seemed unbothered about the public statement took to her Instagram page to speak on a trending argument about ladies cooking for their boyfriends.

    Basketmouth has organized popular stand-up comedy concerts like Basketmouth Uncensored across the globe.

    He hosted a comedy challenge on Instagram, called the #TwoThingsChallenge which sparked an uproar from fans, after a young fan posted a video of him saying obscene things relating to sex, with a child in close view in the video.

    He was a producer of “Ghana Jollof”. In 2000, Basketmouth appeared in Lagbaja music video titled Gra Gra.

    In 2005 and 2006, Basketmouth won the National Comedy Award and the awards for Best Stand-up Comedian of the Year.

    He was nominated in the 2021 maiden edition of The Humour Awards Academy alongside fellow comedian Mr Funny.

    Basketmouth appears in the Africa Magic show “My Flatmates” (2016). He recently hosted Nigerian Billionaire Femi Otedola in his home.

    In December 2020, he started his comedy web series titled “Papa Benji”.

    Actress and comedian Chioma Omeruh, professionally known as Chigul, has revealed that she married a virgin at age 33.

    The actress made this disclosure when reacting to the post of the ex-wife of Basketmouth, Elsie Okpocha, on “Women, marriage, and children” a few days after her husband announced their divorce.

    According to Chigul, she was advised to give birth during her marital crisis in order to save her marriage but she felt it wasn’t necessary.

    She said: We were not perfect; there were good days I won’t lie. It just got to a place where we both didn’t care anymore. I have been made to believe that it was my job to keep that afloat and the fact that it sank, I take on my head.

    “Would I have changed anything about it? No, because it happened for a reason. I’m happy it happened at one year with no children and no attachments. I married at 33, I married a virgin. That was my first ever anything and it was supposed to be special and last.”

    Chigul was born in Lagos to Igbo parents. She moved away whilst still a baby. She is the second child of four children of Air Commodore Samson Omeruah.

    She had her primary and secondary education in Lagos during her secondary school days she attended two Air Force secondary schools one in Jos and the other in Ikeja, Lagos.

    After her secondary school, she entered Abia State University (ABSU). She attended ABSU for three months. In 1994, she left ABSU to study Criminal Law at Delaware State University, at her father’s request.

    This was not a success, so she left after two years[6] to study French Education at Delaware State University.

    Chigul is a polyglot and can speak 5 languages fluently. She returned to Nigeria after twelve years in America.

    She initially became a singer under the name C-Flow, but this has been subsumed by her characters – the principal of which is Chigul. Chigul speaks in a strong Igbo accent. Chigul was first heard as a recording of the song “Kilode” sent  to her friends, but the sound was soon re-sent around Nigeria. Chigul has been married, but this ended with no joint children.

    The actress has twelve characters, but she is known as “Chigul” after her most well-known invention. She has been interviewed and lauded by a number of media outlets. She had given a TEDx talk and appeared as a character in the Nollywood film Road to Yesterday.

    In 2015 she appeared as a guest on the single “Karishika” by Falz. She was a 2014 honouree as the “Comedienne of The Year” at The Sisterhoods Award Ceremony.

    In May 2020, Chigul appeared in the Visual Collaborative electronic catalog, in an issue called TwentyEightyFour, she was featured in the same issue with Dakore Akande, Oliver Nakakande and Coppé.
