    Bauchi Police nab herbalist for kidnap, rape of married woman

    Police in Bauchi State have arrested a 32-year-old herbalist, Monday Ishaku, for intoxicating and raping a woman in his residence.

    This was according to the police spokesperson in the State, Ahmed Wakil.

    He said Ishaku committed the crime after the victim’s husband took her to him for the healing of their ailing daughter.

    The spokesman noted that the woman and her husband went to meet the herbalist for spiritual consultation concerning the healing of their sick daughter, adding that the self-acclaimed herbalist tricked them instead and raped the woman.

    Herbalist ‘enchants’ housewife, rapes her in Bauchi

    A 32-year-old herbalist, Monday Ishaku has allegedly raped a married woman (name withheld) brought to him for treatment in Bauchi State after putting her under a spell.

    It was gathered that the randy herbalist enchanted the housewife, using intoxicants before committing the nefarious act.

    The Bauchi State Police Command confirmed the development, in a statement released on Tuesday by the Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil.

    According to the statement, it was the 19-year-old daughter of the woman who was sick that was taken to the herbalist for treatment in the first instance.

    “The husband of the victim said his 19-year-old daughter was sick and after medical treatment did not improve her condition he decided to take her to Monday Ishaku who told the man that his wife was responsible for their daughter’s sickness.

    “He promised to treat both the mother and the daughter in the night. In view of this, the suspect tricked the dire health seekers and committed an atrocious act,” the statement reads.

    According to the police, the matter is being invested further and details would be provided to the public.

    Gov. Mohammed says his battle ready for criminals

    Bauchi state governor, Bala Mohammed has disclosed that his government is battle ready to confront bandits, kidnappers and all other forms of criminality in the state.

    Mohammed stated this on Monday when he paid a sympathy visit to the family of ex-Governor Ahmed Muazu In Boto village, Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of the state.

    Newsmen reports that some family members of the former governor were recently kidnapped while a 25-year-old man was killed in the process.

    “We are going to take stringent measures, some of those measures that are outside the security rules engagement, we are going to use vigilante and community relations.

    “Because this is the house of a former governor and those people who came, the hooligans and the charlatans, they came to insult us.

    “It  is a big affront and we want to take it as such, we  will not sleep until we get them, we  will not sleep until we protect our leaders because we have been exposed to the vagaries of expectations,” he said

    According to him, “this is a  pure village settlement, it is not his fault that his relations are here and certainly we have to protect everyone and we know that they have informants.

    “But our security agencies are working very hard to make sure they protect us and apprehend them”.

    The governor, however, urged   District Heads, Village Heads and local government executives to share information for curbing criminality.

    “Please, don’t sleep, because nobody will do that for you; you have to protect yourselves; you have to stand up and protect yourselves; they cannot overcome us but we have to overcome them.”

    “We know their routes, they are coming from Plateau state through Kurgwi to Kardam and Lere and so on.

    “Insha Allah, since we know their routes and with technology, we are going to get them,” he said.

    Mohammed said that his administration commiserated with the affected families, and assured to get to the hoodlums, adding that  “we are going to be very daring against them”.

    Earlier, Police Commissioner, Umar Sanda assured that his Officers and men are on top of the situation and very soon they will make a breakthrough in apprehending the criminals.

    Sanda promised to continue to do his best to effectively police the entire state and keep the residents safe and protected.

  • Bauchi Deputy Governor refute reports of his resignation

    The Bauchi State Deputy Governor, Sen. Baba Tela, has refuted reports of his resignation stating that reports on his purported resignation only exist in the writer’s imagination and is fake.

    The statement was disclosed through his press secretary, Malam Sani IIelah, on Thursday in Bauchi.

    ”Reports on my purported resignation are not only fake but also the figment of the imagination of the writer.

    “For the avoidance of doubt, I assure the peace-loving and hard-working people of Bauchi State, in particular, and the nation in general, that I have not resigned as the Deputy Governor of Bauchi State.

    “I reiterate my support and loyalty to Gov. Bala Mohammed. Rumour mongers who are bent on causing disharmony in the state are warned to desist from such acts,” he said.

    Tela said he remained committed to the objectives and ideals of the state administration under the leadership of Gov. Mohammed.

  • 2023: 51-year-old treks from Bauchi to Lagos to celebrate Tinubu

    A 51-year-old man, Alhaji Usman Madaki, who is trekking from Bauchi to Lagos to celebrate the victory of Sen. Ahmed Tinubu as the 2023 flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has arrived in Ilorin on Tuesday night.

    Madaki, who later left Ilorin, the Kwara capital, on Wednesday morning, said even though he has never met the APC presidential candidate in his life, he is a big fan of the former Lagos State governor.

    The 51-year-old, an indigene of Bauchi Local Government Area of Bauchi State, said he commenced the trekking on June 10, and planned to arrive Lagos on Saturday (June 25).

    Madaki said he faced a lot of challenges on his way, including what he suspected to be a kidnapping attempt between Kafanchan and Zangon Kataf.

    He revealed that some people even mistook him for Boko Haram but when they noticed he was not looking harmful, they escorted him out of the town after gathering themselves to monitor he is no longer in the territory.

    “I want to meet Tinubu in Lagos to celebrate with him on his victory as the presidential candidate of the APC.

    “I share the belief that he will be Nigeria’s next President. I like Tinubu, he is my godfather even though he doesn’t know me.

    “I will be leaving for Oyo State today, I think it is not far like that,” Madaki said.

    The trekker explained that he would always tried to see if he could get any APC stalwart that could help him anywhere he arrived, but could not get one when Tuesday in Ilorin because of rains.

    “Since when I moved around 8 a.m on Tuesday in Bandiru, a boarder between Niger State and Jebba in Kwara, the rain began on me and finished on me.

    “There was nowhere to get a vehicle or motorbike because of the heavy downpour,” he said.

    Recall that Tinubu defeated Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo; Rotimi Amaechi, former Minister of Transportation; Senate President Ahmad Lawan, and 10 other presidential hopefuls, to clinch the ticket at the APC primaries in Abuja.

  • Insecurity: Police confirm abduction of village head in Bauchi

    Police Command in Bauchi State has confirmed the attack and abduction of Village Head of Zira, Alhaji Yahya Abubakar and his son, Habibu Saleh in Toro Local Government Area in the state.

    This is contained in a statement by the Spokesman of the Command, SP Ahmed Wakil, made available to newsmen on Monday in Bauchi.

    He said the gunmen attacked the village, under Rishi Police Division, a border village with Plateau State, at 2 a.m. on Saturday.

    Wakil said the police search team was on the trail in the forests of the area.

    “The command has since dispatched a team of detectives and other police officers to rescue the victims and presently our men are combing the bush in search of the abducted victims.

    “We assure residents that the abducted persons shall soon be rescued,” he said.

    The spokesman also said the  Commissioner of Police, Umar Sanda, had directed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to work assiduously to rescue the abducted victims.

    He appealed to the general public to remain calm and go about their normal businesses and cooperate with the Police authorities.

    Wakil also called on the public to report the suspected movement of people as well as suspicious people to the police or security agencies in the area.

  • Gov. Mohammed says democracy is the best system of government

    Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state has stated that Democracy is the best system of government.

    This was contained in a goodwill message to mark the 2022 Democracy Day, in Bauchi on Sunday.

    Speaking on Democracy, gov. Bala said it gives the people the right to choose who to govern them and how they want to be governed.

    He added that it is this democratic right of choice that makes governments accountable to the people and make them liable to be voted out for incompetence.

    “It is my pleasure to address you today on the occasion of the 2022 Democracy Day to mark the 23rd anniversary of the return of our great country, Nigeria to democratic rule.

    “As you all know, Democracy Day used to be observed annually on May 29. The Federal Government changed the date to June 12 in 2018, however, in honour of late Chief MKO Abiola.

    “Abiola was the acclaimed winner of the presidential election of June 12, 1993, an election annulled by the then military government.

    “That we are today celebrating the 23rd Democracy Day is a testimony to the fact that democratic governance has not only been firmly rooted but has also come to stay in Nigeria,’’ he said.

    Gov. Mohammed, who highlighted some of the achievements of his administration since inception, reiterated its commitment to the provision of more dividends of democracy for people of the state.

    He called on the people of Bauchi State to continue to support and cooperate with his government to enable it to deliver more dividends of democracy.

  • Woman abandons newborn baby in the bush

    Personnel in Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi state have launched an extensive search for an unknown woman who gave birth and abandoned the newborn in the bush.

    A woman identified as Fibi Hassan told pressmen that the lady in question abandoned her newborn baby after she gave birth on Thursday near a bush in Sarkin Kudu, area of Gogoro LGA.

    She said: “Our office received a report today that a newborn baby boy was abandoned in the bush in Sarkin Kudu. Before we got there, the newborn baby had been picked up by one of the women in the area who took care of the baby.

    “The baby is now doing well and in good condition. We have also informed the security and Investigations are ongoing” Mrs. Hassan reported.

    She stated that the social welfare office will continue to take care of the baby until investigation is completed.

    “We appreciate the good people of sarkin kudu and the women who took care of the baby and we appeal to the mother of the baby to come and claim her newborn baby”.

    Speaking on the incident, Mr Luka Danladi,  a resident of Sarkin Kudu said, “We woke up this morning with a sad news that a newborn baby boy had been abandoned near a bush here.

    “The mother of the baby left him crying on top of a rock with his face on the ground and we quickly told some of our women who rushed to rescue the new baby.

    “The mother left the newborn baby without cutting the placenta and also without clothes,  with the intention that the baby will die before day break. But thank God the baby was rescued from danger.

    Blasphemy: Houses burnt, pastor injured in Bauchi State

    There was pandemonium in Katangan area of Warji Local Government Area of Bauchi State on Saturday morning as irate youths reportedly burnt houses and injured a pastor over another case of alleged blasphemy.

    Many houses were said to have been burnt in the riot, including a church situated in the area.

    Findings show that trouble started when a message was allegedly circulated on social media that a Christian girl in the town allegedly engaged in blasphemy of Islam while commenting on the case of Deborah Samuel.

    “What I learnt was that a Christian girl allegedly posted and commented on something on social media which has to do with the incident in Sokoto and that was how it started,” a source said.

    Recall that Deborah Samuel a part two student of Shehu Shagari college of Education Sokoto , was beaten to death and her remains burnt over alleged blasphemy against prophet Mohammed (SAW)

    4 die, 7 injured in Bauchi auto crash

    Mr Yusuf Abdullahi, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Bauchi State, said four people died, while seven others sustained injuries in an auto crash that occurred in Bauchi on Sunday.

    Abdullahi, who confirmed the incident on Monday in Bauchi, said the accident, which involved one Sharon bus with registration number TRR 391 YX, and an Opel Salon with registration number AA 268 SHR, occurred around Giwo Science Academy, along Bauchi-Kano road.

    The sector commander explained that the accident occurred around 2:45 p.m, while personnel of the corps arrived the scene in record time.

    Abdullahi attributed the crash to speed violation and dangerous driving.

    “Fourteen people were involved in the crash and there were nine male adults, four female adults, one female child.

    “Four people lost their lives to the crash and they included three male adults, a female adult and seven others, including five male adults and two female adults were seriously injured,” he said.

    Abdullahi explained that the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the morgue of State Specialist Hospital for identification.

    In the same vein, the Sector Commander said that the injured persons were also responding to treatment at the same hospital.
