Man Utd alerted as Coman rejects Bayern contract offer

French player Kingsley Coman has rejected a new contract offer from Bayern Munich.

The winger, reports Kicker, has turned down Bayern’s latest contract proposal.

Bayern have offered €12m-a-year, but Coman has rejected the package, insisting it falls short of what he deserves given his success with the club.

Manchester United made enquiries after Coman last summer and also expressed interest in the midfielder before Christmas.

For the moment, talks between Coman and Bayern are ‘paused’.

Jamal Musiala signs new Bayern Munich contract

Jamal Musiala has put pen to paper on a new contract with Bayern Munich.

Sky Deutschland says the former Chelsea junior penned terms to 2026 on Thursday afternoon.

Musiala’s deal will eventually see him earn €5m-a-year. Top clubs from the Premier League showed interest in the 18-year-old.

UCL: Musiala makes history as Bayern thrash Lazio

Jamal Musiala became the youngest English scorer in the Champions League as holders Bayern Munich thrashed Lazio in the last-16 first leg in Rome.

The 17-year-old finished smartly from outside the box to also become Bayern’s youngest scorer in the competition.

Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring with his 72nd goal to overtake Raul as the tournament’s third-highest scorer.

Leroy Sane added a third and then forced an own goal, before Lazio responded through Joaquin Correa.

Bayern have collected six titles in the past nine months but have dropped points in both their Bundesliga games since winning the Club World Cup.

They were in complete control in the first leg against Lazio, however, after Lewandowski pounced on Mateo Musacchio’s sloppy back pass to round Pepe Reina and slot into an empty net in the ninth minute.

The goal moves him above former Real Madrid and Schalke striker Raul in the Champions League scoring charts, though he is still a long way behind Cristiano Ronaldo (134) and Lionel Messi (119).

Fifteen minutes later, Musiala, an England youth international who is also eligible to play for Germany, slotted a composed finish into the bottom corner to double Bayern’s lead.

In doing so, he surpassed Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – who netted for Arsenal against Olympiakos in September 2011 at 18 years and 44 days old – as the youngest English scorer in the competition.

Kingsley Coman then toyed with the Lazio defence and when his shot was palmed out by Reina, former Manchester City winger Sane was on hand to tap in a third.

Sane’s dangerous delivery was turned into his own net from close range by Francesco Acerbi immediately after the break to all but wrap up Bayern’s progression to the quarter-finals.

Lazio, on their first appearance in the knockout stages for 21 years, found a consolation when Correa jinked through the Bayern defence for a clever solo goal.

  • RB Leipzig cut Bayern Munich’s lead to 2 points

RB Leipzig cut Bayern Munich’s lead to 2 points

RB Leipzig secured an important 3-0 win at Hertha Berlin to move within two points of Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich on Sunday.

Also, an Edmond Tapsoba goal deep into stoppage-time secured Bayer Leverkusen a point with a 1-1 draw at Augsburg.

In the late Sunday clash, Hoffenheim put up a stunning performance to beat Werder Bremen 4-0.

Leipzig opened the scoring in the first half just when Hertha Berlin seemed quite dangerous.

Sabtizer’s spectacular effort from outside of the penalty box stunned goalkeeper Rune Jarstein, who was left helpless.

Hertha Berlin had chances to equalise but goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi saved Matheus Cunha’s shot early in the second half.

But RB Leipzig avoided any extra drama as Nordi Mukiele fired the ball into the net.

There was a video assistant referee (VAR) review but the goal stood.

With six minutes left on the clock Willi Orban headed in a third after an assist from Sabitzer to clinch the three points in Berlin.

The result helped them to capitalise on Bayern Munich’s 2-1 loss at Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.

“Very important three points,” Sabtizer said. “If we focus on our game, it [title race] will be exciting until the end. It doesn’t help to talk about it [title]. We have to do something.”

While RB Leipzig can dream with the trophy, Hertha Berlin have relegation nightmares.

They stay out of the danger zone but tied on 18 points with Arminia Bielefeld, who occupy the relegation play-off spot.

“We had our goal chances to take the lead, to tie. At the end you look at the result, it doesn’t make us look good,” Hertha Berlin coach Pal Dardai said.

“It’s psychologically difficult for the boys, defeat after defeat. The passion was there, but you need to score goals,” he added.

Diadie Samassekou’s through ball found Ihlas Bebou running towards the penalty box, and he shot past goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka to open the scoring for Hoffenheim.

At first the goal was disallowed for offside, but a VAR check found he was onside and the opener counted.

Just before the break, Christoph Baumgartner took advantage of a poor clearance to play a one-two with Munas Dabbur and double Hoffenheim’s lead.

Four minutes into the second half Dabbur controlled the ball before knocking it into the net for a third, and a last act by Georginio Rutter sealed the win.

“We have invested a lot and things worked really well,” Bebou said after the game. “I thought I was offside, but now we know the play goes until the end and can be reviewed.”

Hoffenheim leapfrogged Werder Bremen in the standings and are now 11th, eight points off the relegation zone.

Werder Bremen dropped to 12th, five points off the danger.

Before the game, Werder Bremen coach Florian Kohfeldt said his situation at the club has not changed after Marco Rose decided to leave Borussia Moenchengladbach.

Rose will take the head coach position at Borussia Dortmund in the summer and Kohfeldt has been linked to a possible Gladbach move.

“Nothing changes directly for me just because a coach somewhere else decided to change clubs,” Kohfeldt said.

“I really, really like being Werder Bremen coach. We have such a strong bond here.

“The players, Frank Baumman [managing director] and I, we’ve known each other for so long and work together in a spirit of trust. There’s nothing to talk about,” he added.

After the defeat, Kohfeldt said Werder Bremen had a “terrible day.”

Augsburg’s opener came from Florian Niederlechner in the fifth minute but not without a big help and a bizarre mistake by back-up goalkeeper Niklas Lomb.

He was deputising for injured first-choice Lukas Hradecky.

Tim Fosu-Mensah was able to stop Augsburg’s counter-attack by passing the ball to Lomb.

But the goalkeeper, who had his first Bundesliga start on Sunday, touched the ball and nudged it with his standing foot.

Niederlechner was waiting and simply tapped into the goal.

But when Augsburg were about to celebrate a very important win in the fight against relegation, they were stunned by Tapsoba with the last kick of the game.

The defender not only snatched a point for Bayer Leverkusen but also extended the club’s unbeaten run against Augsburg to 20 matches

“It’s very, very bitter, I must be honest. Very difficult,” Augsburg defender Felix Uduokhai said. “It hurts a lot but we must keep it together.”

On the Bayer Leverkusen side, Sven Bender was happy with the point: “I was happy at the end. The early setback didn’t make things easy,” he said.

With the draw, Augsburg remain 13th, five points away from the relegation play-off spot.

Bayer Leverkusen are fifth and five points off the UEFA Champions league qualification zone.

Bundesliga: Bayern Munich stunned by Eintracht Frankfurt

Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Amin Younes scored a superb goal and helped to create another as his team beat Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich 2-1 on Saturday.

The win helped them to stay on course for a UEFA Champions League spot.

Bayern Munich remain on 49 points, with second-placed RB Leipzig, who have 44 points, in action at Hertha Berlin on Sunday.

Fourth-placed Eintracht Frankfurt are level on 42 points with VfL Wolfsburg, who are third and won 3-0 at Arminia Bielefeld on Friday.

Former Germany international Younes, on loan from Napoli, helped to set up Daichi Kamada for the first goal after 12 minutes as Eintracht Frankfurt stretched their unbeaten run to 11 league games.

With Germany coach Joachim Loew watching in the stands ahead of international matches in March, Younes who won the last of five Germany caps in 2017 was impressive.

He thundered in a shot from the edge of the penalty box in the 31st minute, after taking on the entire Bayern Munich defence.

“That was Younes’s best performance of the season,” Eintracht Frankfurt coach Adi Huetter said. “In the first half, he was world-class.”

The Bavarians, who won their sixth title in less than nine months with their FIFA Club World Cup triumph last week in Qatar, looked anything but fresh.

“We should not forget that we have had whirlwind weeks recently,” said Bayern Munich coach Hansi Flick, whose team take on Lazio in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 next week.

“Eintracht Frankfurt did it really well in the first half with enormous speed and they put us under pressure. We did it better in the second half and we want to build on that performance.”

Bayern Munich were missing several players, including injured Corentin Tolisso and Serge Gnabry, as well as Thomas Mueller and Benjamin Pavard to COVID-19 infections.

But they upped the tempo considerably after the break.

They cut the deficit with Robert Lewandowski’s 26th goal of the campaign in the 53rd minute after good early work from Leroy Sane.

But Eintracht Frankfurt, playing without injured top striker Andre Silva, hung on for their fifth straight league win.

Borussia Moenchengladbach’s European aspirations suffered a big blow with a 2-1 loss at Mainz 05 after Kevin Stoeger’s 86th-minute winner saw them drop to eighth place on 33 points.

It has been a difficult week for Gladbach after coach Marco Rose announced he would join Borussia Dortmund next season.

Rudiger declares he can help Chelsea sign Bayern trio

Toni Rudiger says he’s happy to help Chelsea recruit a defender from Bayern Munich.

David Alaba will be in high demand after he announced he will be leaving the current champions of Europe in the summer – and could be on his way to west London.

Chelsea are reportedly also interested in Jerome Boateng and Niklas Sule, and any advantage they hold in potential negotiations could prove vital.

“If Chelsea were to decide on one of the three players as a transfer target, I would be available to answer any questions,” Rudiger told Christian Falk of Bild.

“I know Jerome and Niklas very well and I’ve already had contact with David Alaba,” he added.

  • Bayern one step away from sixth title in one year

Bayern one step away from sixth title in one year

Bayern Munich could win their first trophy in 2021 and sixth in one year when they face Tigres UANL of Mexico on Thursday in the FIFA Club World Cup big finale.

The international silverware would crown a season that saw the Bavarians clinching everything on their way: Bundesliga, German Cup, Champions League and the domestic and European Super Cup titles.

Last time Bayern won the Club World Cup was in 2013 after their first-ever treble winning season and under newly signed coach Pep Guardiola.

The 2-0 win in the semi-final against Al Ahly of Egypt was never in doubt, but Bayern struggled a bit to put the African champions away.

“We travelled to Qatar because we want to win another trophy. We needed time to get into the run of the game,” coach Hansi Flick said.

“When we did, I think we dominated the match and deserved to score a second goal. We played well defensively, I’m very satisfied with my team.”

Flick knows his team is the favourite but also understands they will have to put up a fight to take the trophy to Munich.

“I watched the first semi-final. Tigres are a very dynamic team with a lot of power. We have to counter that well in the final,” he said.

Amid the busy football calendar with midweek and weekend games Bayern seem ready for the clash and eager for victory.

“The final is going to be a big match. We’re having a nice time here, we want to win the trophy and the sixth title,” said Robert Lewandowski, who scored both goals in the 2-0 win over Al Ahly.

“A world cup is always special. We’re ready. I hope we’ll turn in an even better display in the final and that we won’t need so many chances,” the striker added.

Flick confirmed that midfielders Leon Goretzka and Javi Martinez won’t be able to travel to Qatar for the final after missing the semi-final. Both tested positive for coronavirus and remain in quarantine.

“We decided Leon and Javi won’t travel. It’s sad because both would like to come.

“But it’s also important they can train in Munich and eventually be available for the game on Monday [against Arminia Bielefeld in the Bundesliga],” Flick said after the Al Ahly game.

CONCACAF champions Tigres defeated Copa Libertadores winners Palmeiras of Brazil on Sunday for a spot in the final.

“No other Mexican team have gone this far, but now we want more,” Tigres forward Carlos Gonzalez said.

“We came here hoping to lift the trophy and now that we’re close, we’re encouraged and motivated that we can achieve our goal.”

Under coach Ricardo Ferretti, who’s in charge since 2010, Tigres have secured five domestic league titles and are experiencing their most successful era.

On Thursday there’s also the match for third place between Al Ahly and Palmeiras.

Lewandowski bags brace as Bayern advance to Club World Cup final

Bayern Munich advanced to the Club World Cup final after two Robert Lewandowski goals were enough to seal a 2-0 victory over African champions Al Ahly in Monday’s semi-final.

The European champions face Tigres in the final on Thursday after the Mexican club saw off Brazilian giants Palmeiras in Sunday’s other semi-final.

Lewandowski gave Bayern the lead with just 17 minutes gone at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium, a host venue for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Poland star then headed home a Leroy Sane cross four minutes before the whistle to book Bayern’s place in the final.

  • Chelsea in fresh move for departing Bayern defender

Chelsea in fresh move for departing Bayern defender

Premier League side Chelsea are making a fresh move for departing Bayern Munich defender David Alaba.

Bayern Munich are set to wave goodbye to the long-serving Austrian defender when his contract expires in the summer.

The Guardian says the Blues want to make a last-ditch attempt to gazump LaLiga giants Real Madrid.

New boss Thomas Tuchel is reportedly looking to improve his defence despite keeping clean sheets in each of his first three games in charge.

The German has opted for experience so far with Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta returned to the team alongside Thiago Silva.

A versatile defender who started out as a midfielder, Alaba would fit into a number of positions in Tuchel’s 3-4-1-2.

But Spanish media believe a free transfer to Real Madrid is done and dusted.

Bayern punish player for getting tattoo during pandemic

Bayern Munich dropped World Cup winner Corentin Tolisso on Saturday and hit the France midfielder with an undisclosed “heavy” fine for breaking their hygiene rules during the coronavirus pandemic by getting a tattoo.

“Corentin Tolisso has violated our guidelines… which is very annoying and cannot be tolerated,” Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge fumed in a statement on Saturday.

“We are very grateful that the Bundesliga games can currently take place despite the prevailing coronavirus situation.”

The 26-year-old central midfielder, who won the 2018 World Cup with France, was dropped for Saturday’s home league game against Hoffenheim.

Having “gotten a tattoo this week”, Tolisso broke the club’s strict hygiene rules, designed to limit the players contact outside the squad during the pandemic.

A video was posted on Friday which showed Tolisso getting a tattoo on his right forearm while not wearing a protective mouth-and-nose mask.

Tattoo parlours in Germany are currently closed due to the current lockdown.

According to the European champions, the Frenchman has been handed a “heavy fine”.

Sports director Hasan Salihamidzic told Sky that Tolisso “knows he made a mistake. He will receive a fine that we will donate to charity. It’s a fine he will feel.”

In Tolisso’s absence, Marc Roca partnered Joshua Kimmich in the central midfield against Hoffenheim.

Bayern already have midfielders Leon Goretzka and Javi Martinez in quarantine after contracting COVID-19.
