  • Bayern Munich put six past rival Dortmund

Bayern Munich are one win away from retaining the Bundesliga after humiliating rivals Borussia Dortmund in Der Klassiker on Saturday evening.

Robert Lewandowski scored a hat-trick against his former side, while Thomas Muller, James Rodriguez and Franck Ribery also scored.

Dortmund had no answer but remain third in the table – 21 points behind Bayern.

Jupp Heynckes can win his fourth Bayern title against Augsburg next Saturday – 29 years after his first.

The 72-year-old has already won five major honours in his three spells in charge of Bayern, and will have an eye on a second Champions League trophy with a quarter-final against Sevilla on Tuesday night.

Second-placed Schalke’s win against Freiburg earlier on Saturday meant that Heynckes’ side could not seal their sixth straight title at home against their biggest recent rivals.

But they were rampant regardless, scoring five times in the first half to underline their dominance of German football.

Lewandowski – linked with a move to Real Madrid again this week – took just five minutes to put the champions elect ahead when he buried Muller’s pass.

Ribery had a goal disallowed for offside before James steered in David Alaba’s cutback. The game was as good as over when Muller volleyed the third in the 23rd minute, but there was still time for Lewandowski and Ribery to both profit from some hesitant Dortmund defending to score before half time.

As is so often the case, the second half was largely a non-event, although Dortmund forward Mario Gotze did hit the post.

And Lewandowski completed his treble with two minutes left, another tap-in after Roman Burki could not hold Josh Kimmich’s cross.

  • Lewandowski scores hat-trick and 100th Bayern goal in huge win

Robert Lewandowski moved onto 100 Bundesliga goals for Bayern Munich with a hat-trick as the league leaders thrashed Hamburg.

After Franck Ribery had rounded the keeper to open the scoring, Lewandowski headed in his first of the game.

The Poland striker then slotted in to make it 3-0 before Arjen Robben struck from the edge of the box.

Ribery took on four players for his side’s fifth before Lewandowski scored a penalty.

Lewandowski had earlier missed from the spot – his first penalty miss for Bayern – but made amends soon after to complete his hat-trick.

Bayern have not lost since November, winning 16 of their last 17 games, and are now 20 points clear at the top of the table.

  • UCL: Bayern Munich thrash 10-man Besiktas

Bayern Munich put five past 10-man Besiktas to equal their longest winning run and take a convincing lead in their Champions League last-16 tie.

The hosts won their 14th consecutive game after a dominant second half against Besiktas, who had Domagoj Vida sent off after 16 minutes.

Thomas Muller converted from close range in both halves and Kingsley Coman also swept home.

Top-scorer Robert Lewandowski added two more for Bayern as Besiktas tired.

Besiktas, who won all three of their away games in qualifying from group G, started brightly with Vagner Love shooting just over and Ricardo Quaresma forcing Bayern keeper Sven Ulreich to save at his near post.

But Jupp Heynckes’ men had 35 shots to their opponents’ six, and are well-placed to reach the quarter-finals for a seventh year in a row when they travel to Istanbul for the second leg on 14 March.

  • I should’ve joined Manchester United, Bayern Munich great Kahn admits

Bayern Munich legend Oliver Kahn has said that he regrets not taking the opportunity to join Manchester United.

Kahn had the chance to sign for the Old Trafford club when Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge at Old Trafford and feels that he missed out on a wonderful opportunity.

No goalkeeper has made more appearances than Kahn in Germany’s top flight with 557, but he feels that he should have spread his wings a little more.

“Sir Alex Ferguson is still mad at me today. He thought that I would move to Man Utd in 2003 or 2004, but I was more interested in trying to define an era at Bayern,” Kahn told Bild.

“Looking back, I should have done it then. It would have been a nice challenge for me.”

It was Kahn who kept goal for Bayern as they were on the wrong end of United’s dramatic comeback in the 1999 European Cup final, when two late goals sent the title to Old Trafford, yet he has a novel way of coping with the match.

“I remember the Champions League final against Manchester United as a win – I just forgot the last two minutes,” he joked.

Despite that disappointment, Kahn won the Champions League title with Bayern in 2000-01, while he also claimed eight Bundesliga titles. With Germany, he was a champion at Euro 96, while he was in the team that finished runner-up to Ronaldo’s Brazil in 2002 and was also present three years later as they finished third on home soil.
