  • Harry Kane breaks Bundesliga goals record

Harry Kane breaks Bundesliga goals record

England captain Harry Kane continued his impressive goalscoring form with a double against Heidenheim as Bayern Munich moved top of the Bundesliga.

Kane netted two goals in the first half to take his tally to 17 for the season.

Having scored a hat-trick in each of his previous two Bundesliga matches, Kane has set a new league record for the most goals scored after 11 games.

He overtakes Robert Lewandowski’s tally of 16 from 11 matches in 2019, while Bayern sit top of the table by a point.

They lead second-placed Bayer Leverkusen, who would reclaim top spot with victory on Sunday when they host Union Berlin at 14:30 GMT.

Former Manchester City winger Leroy Sane provided both assists for Kane, finding him inside the box for the opener as the striker spun and fired the ball into the top corner.

Sane’s corner was then met with a precise, towering header from Kane to give Bayern a 2-0 lead before Heidenheim mounted a comeback in the second half.

Two goals in three minutes from Tim Kleindienst and Jan-Niklas Beste cancelled out Kane’s double, but substitute Raphael Guerreiro swiftly restored Bayern’s lead in the 72nd minute, following up on a rebound to slot into an empty net.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting also came off the bench to confirm victory for Bayern late on.

Kane, who joined Bayern from Tottenham this summer, has already outscored last season’s joint-top scorers of the Bundesliga – Christopher Nkunku and Niclas Fullkrug finished on 16 goals each.

It is also the 10th season in a row Kane has scored 20 or more club goals, while his tally of 17 goals in 11 Bundesliga games equals Erling Haaland’s haul for Manchester City at the same stage in the Premier League last season.

Water-logged pitch: Bayern’s Cup game in Saarbrücken under threat

Bayern Munich’s German Cup game at third division Saarbrücken may not go ahead as planned on Wednesday because of a water-logged pitch after heavy rain.

The Saarbrücken club said an inspection by the city and the regional football association took place on Monday along with draining measures, but that a final decision would not be made until after another inspection on Tuesday.

Saarbrücken’s league match against Dynamo Dresden on Sunday was abandoned at half-time because of the condition of the pitch. Rain continued overnight, and more is forecast for Tuesday.

Saarbrücken said the sold out second-round match could not be moved to other stadiums in the area because those in question are also being used for mid-week Cup games.

  • Nagelsmann to be in charge of Germany until Euro 2024

Nagelsmann to be in charge of Germany until Euro 2024

Julian Nagelsmann is the new Germany national team coach, the German Football Federation (DFB) said on Friday.

The former RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich coach will replace Hansi Flick and will initially remain in charge until the Euro 2024 tournament on home ground.

Nagelsmann signed a contract until July 2024 and will have former Bayern forward Sandro Wagner as his assistant coach.

“We have the Euros in our own country. That’s something special. I have a great desire to take on this challenge,” Nagelsmann was quoted in the DFB statement.

Nagelsmann most recently coached German champions Bayern, where he also succeeded Flick, but had to go in March during an up-and-down campaign by their standards.

He still had a contract with Bayern, but this has been terminated. According to reports, the Bavarian club was willing to let Nagelsmann go without charging a fee.

His first task will be friendly games on Oct. 14 in Hartford against the U.S. and three days later in Philadelphia against Mexico.

The new coach must also work further on a turnaround for which there is little time left before hosts Germany, play the opening match of the Euros on June 14, 2024 in Munich.

“The European championship next year is of enormous importance for the whole of football in Germany.

“We are convinced that Nagelsmann will ensure that the national team inspires its fans and that the Euros are also a sporting success,” DFB president Bernd Neuendorf said.

Flick was dismissed on Sept. 10 after just four wins in his last 17 games which included a second straight World Cup group stage exit and four defeats from the last five games without victory.

Germany then beat France 2-1 on September 12, with popular former Germany striker and coach Rudi Völler as caretaker but not ready to stay on for a longer period.

Völler, who is currently the Germany team director, was reportedly the driving force behind the appointment of Nagelsmann.

“Julian Nagelsmann was our preferred candidate from the start. Not only is he an absolute football expert.

“He  has already proven in all his positions – at a very young age for a head coach – that he can motivate and inspire a team and the entire environment,” Völler said.

  • I’m in Bayern to push my limits – Harry Kane

I’m in Bayern to push my limits – Harry Kane

England international, Harry Kane is delighted to now be a Bayern Munich player.

The former Tottenham star signed for Bayern yesterday morning before making his debut in their German Super Cup defeat to RB Leipzig.

At his media presentation today, Kane said: “I’ve always wanted to push my limits and improve, and see how far that can take me. Ultimately, I wanted to be playing at the highest level, to be playing in the Champions League, fighting for titles every year. Coming to Bayern, one of the biggest clubs in the world, gives me that opportunity.

“It was a busy couple of days, a busy week. This is my first transfer; it was an up and down experience for sure but I’m happy to be here now. I wish Tottenham all the best, Daniel Levy all the best, but my focus is here now and trying to help this team.

“I spent my whole career in England and the Premier League so it may take a bit of adapting to get used to a new league. I’m playing against different teams. As you saw yesterday with Leipzig, there are some great teams in this league and it is going to be a real challenge. I know people expect Bayern to win the league every year, but I think teams are improving and it is getting tougher.

“For me it is about settling in, getting as comfortable as possible and understanding the different teams and how I need to adapt.”

He added, “For me it is about trying to help the team as much as possible. Being a goalscorer, people are expecting me to do that.

“I’ve only been here two days. I’m still getting to know the players but one of the reasons I joined is because we have amazing talent. If I get a good connection, I’ll score goals.”

  • Why Harry Kane should not go to Bayern Munich – Michael Owen

Why Harry Kane should not go to Bayern Munich – Michael Owen

Former England international Michael Owen has strongly advised his compatriot Harry Kane against a move to German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

“I know [Bayern Munich] are a massive club and I have huge respect for them, but if I were [Kane] I’d stay put. There’s no great achievement in winning a trophy with them,” Owen tweeted.

“Becoming the all-time Premier League top goal scorer… is a bigger achievement than winning the league in a country dominated by one team,” the 43-year-old wrote.

Bayern Munich are six-time European champions and have won the last 11 Bundesliga titles.

Owen said in contrast, he could understand Kane moving from Tottenham Hotspur to Real Madrid or one of the top clubs in the English Premier League.

Kane is with a total of 213 goals and the second highest scorer behind Alan Shearer (260) in the eternal list of top Premier League scorers.

He is the Munich club’s most desired transfer.

After months of speculation, a breakthrough was reportedly achieved late on Thursday.

According to media reports, Bayern Munich have reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur and their club boss Daniel Levy on a transfer of the English record-breaking goalscorer.

The London club is widely reported to have accepted an offer of more than 100 million euros (110 million dollars) from Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

According to online sports outlet “The Athletic,” Kane is also standing by his commitment and is working on the details of an agreement with the club.
