ORGAN HARVEST: Ekweremadu’s wife in tears during cross-examination

The wife of Senator Ike Ekweremadu, Beatrice, sobbed almost uncontrollably on the witness stand at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, as she was cross-examined in the ongoing conspiracy to facilitate and arrange travel for the aim of exploitation, a trial involving the couple, Sonia, their daughter and Dr Obinna Obeta.

If it – the meeting- did not happen, let me not reach my house when I’m going home

Led in cross-examination by the Crown’s Ms. Patterson, Mrs. Ekweremadu revealed that the trial has had a ripple effect on her family to the effect that both her own mother and the Senator’s mother have not been well since their arrests in June last year and this subsequent trial. Sobbing profusely, she said: “everything we worked for in 28 years is being destroyed and all sorts of stories are being told about us.’’

Though she admitted to the jury that the family lied that David Nwamini was Sonia’s maternal cousin, she told the court “l’ve already said we’re sorry, but that’s not who we are.”

HOW THE MEETING FOR ALLEGED ORGAN HARVEST WAS HELD

When Ms. Patterson alleged that “you and your family brought him – Nwamini – to exploit him,” the mother of four replied and said: “that’s not true. I just wanted my daughter to get well like any other mother.’’ When Patterson claimed Mrs. Ekweremadu couldn’t have been telling the truth when she said both her and Sonia met Nwamini for lunch a second time in February of last year to thank him for wanting to donate his kidney to her, an agitated Mrs. Ekweremadu responded and told the prosecutor, “if it – the meeting- did not happen, let me not reach my house when I’m going home.”

Earlier in the testimony, Patterson, in trying to establish the prosecution’s conspiracy, cited a November 1st 2021 message that her former Deputy Senate President husband had forwarded to her. She then asked Mrs Ekweremadu “what do you think that message- about cost of hotel accommodation- was about?” Ekweremadu told her: ”it’s self explanatory,” and that it was about “people coming up to be tested “ to determine if they matched Sonia’s situation.

When the junior prosecutor said it was payment and reward, the Senator’s wife disagreed. According to her: ”somebody coming to help you should not use their money.” When asked why she responded to her husband’s message, she told the barrister, “I didn’t know it would come to this.” Patterson continued and also asked “why didn’t you ask what the payment was about?”

Mrs Ekweremadu, whose three other children were watching from the public gallery -and Sonia in the dock – responded and said “I trust his sense of judgment. My husband is a good man and I’ve come to trust him.”

    Ekweremadu arrest

The London Metropolitan Police arrested Ekweremadu, and his wife, Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, for conspiring to bring a child to the UK for organ harvesting.

In a statement on its website, the Met Police wrote that “Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.

“Ike Ekweremadu, 60, of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.”

While the description given by the police matches that of former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, neither the lawmaker nor his aides have commented on the development as of the time of publishing this report.

But the police added that “both been remanded in custody and will appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court later today.

The development had triggered both parents to take a young Nigerian to the United Kingdom for organ donation.

But they were arrested and detained by the UK authority for allegedly facilitating the travel of the boy said to be a minor.

The issue has generated both positive and negative reactions from concerned citizens of the country as many who believe Ekweremad may be innocent, sympathized with the family.

However, Martha in the short video currently making the rounds on social media offered to donate her kidney to save Sonia

The good Samaritan said in the video that she was ready to donate the organ with no monetary reward.

According to her, the plight of Miss Ekweremadu has touched her and she sees her in her dream, hence the need to make the sacrifice.

Asked why she offered to donate her kidney, Uche said: “I need to do that because I need to help the girl. She’s dying and they have already shown me in my dream that I should help the girl. I already saw her a long time ago and I saw her again this morning. I need to help her.”

“I don’t have any demands for now. I just need to save her life,” she added.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, are both facing accusations of conspiring to sell a 15-year-old boy for the purpose of harvesting their organs.

Bail was declined for Ekweremadus, as they were sent to detention.

The trial is to continue on July 7.

According to a letter by Ekweremadu, used in seeking for David’s visa on December 28, 2021, “I am writing in support of Mr. Ukpo Nwamini David’s visa application as he undergoes medical testing in preparation for donating a kidney to Ms. Sonia Ekweremadu.

I’ll be covering the costs while David and Sonia are in the Royal Free Hospital in London. A statement of my bank account is provided.”

  • EKWEREMADU: Immigration investigates organ donor’s passport

The Nigeria Immigration Service has said it is investigating the authenticity of the passport obtained by David Ukpo Nwanmini, who was alleged to have been trafficked to the United Kingdom for organ harvest by a former Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice.

The service, it was gathered, is probing allegations that the travel document may have been fraudulently procured.

The acting Comptroller-General of Immigration, Mr Idris Jere, confirmed the investigation on Saturday.

Ekweremadu, the senator representing Enugu West Senatorial District, was arrested by the UK Metropolitan Police on Tuesday with his wife, for conspiracy to harvest the organs of a minor.

Ekweremadu and his wife allegedly facilitated David’s entry into the UK to transplant his kidney into their daughter, Sonia, who is suffering from kidney failure.

The couple was arraigned at the Uxbridge Magistrate Court in London on charges of conspiracy and organ harvest on Thursday.

The prosecutor disclosed that David is a 15-year-old boy, adding that he was not aware that he was in the UK to donate a kidney until he went for a hospital appointment with the Ekweremadus.

A trending picture of David’s passport, however, indicated that he was born on October 12, 2000. This means he is 21 years old.

The passport with number B00569974 was issued in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on November 5, 2021 and would expire on November 4, 2026.

Responding to inquiries on the controversy surrounding David’s passport, the CG said the service was probing the passport and would soon come out with its findings.

“We are investigating the passport and the issues surrounding it. We will come out with our findings soon,” Jere stated.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that the letter which accompanied the visa application of David on December 28, 2021 showed Ekweremadu informed the UK authorities that he was taking the person abroad for a kidney transplant for his daughter.

The letter reads: “I am writing in support of the visa application made by Mr Ukpo Nwamini David who is currently having medical investigations for a kidney donation to Ms Sonia Ekweremadu.

“David and Sonia will be at the Royal Free Hospital London, and I will be providing the necessary funding. I have enclosed a statement of my bank account.”

Ekweremadu was arrested on June 23 over charges he tried to smuggle in a child to the UK for organ harvesting.

The Nigerian senator appeared in court on Thursday afternoon in London and was denied bail. His wife Beatrice is also standing trial for the same charges.

  • ORGAN HARVEST: How Ekweremadu tricked me to London- David Ukpo reveals

The victim of the organ harvest saga, David Ukpo, has made shocking revelations about how he was tricked to London by former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, to harvest his organs.

It would be recalled that Ekweremadu, and his wife, Beatrice, were arrested in London by the Metropolitan Police on Thursday and charged with the alleged crime of trying to bring a child to the UK to allegedly harvest organs.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) learned that the investigation was launched after detectives were alerted to potential offenses under modern slavery legislation in May 2022.

On Friday, documents emerged which showed that the Ukpo, who was said to be a 15-year-old-child, may actually be 21 years.

A letter written by Ekweremadu also suggested that the lawmaker disclosed to the British embassy why he was taking David Ukpo to London.

However Ukpo denied any knowledge of why he was ferreted to the United Kingdom other than the promise of a good job and better life.

Ukpo narrated his side of the story in a Facebook post on Saturday, June 25, where he also posted his Visa page to back up his claims, even as Senator Ekweremadu and his wife remain in detention, having been denied bail by a London magistrates’ court where they were arraigned hours after their arrest on Thursday, June 23.

Titled “My journey to UK”, David Ukpo’s unedited post reads:

“On one fateful day I met a man named okoro in a building site where I was working for my daily bread, okoro told me he like me, he want to help me achieve my dream because he saw me as a great person.
