    Yoruba Nation Agitators: Police gives own account of what transpired

    Benjamin Hundeyin the Lagos State Command Police Public Relations Officer, has revealed what transpired between the police and the Yoruba Nation agitators earlier today at Ojota area of Lagos state.

    Hundeyin confirmed the death of one person in the fracas that happened on Monday morning.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that there was unrest early Monday morning in the Ojota area of Lagos state, leading to the death of one person whilst some were seen scampering for safety.

    Meanwhile, Hundeyin explained that some miscreants masquerading as Yoruba nation agitators caused the mayhem.

    He said “In the early hours of today, miscreants masquerading as Yoruba Nation agitators came out in their hundreds, disrupting social and commercial activities at Ojota area of the State.

    “A team of police officers, comprising Alausa Division and the Raid Respond Squad promptly stepped in to disperse the unlawful gathering and prevent a breakdown of law and order. The miscreants attacked the police, shooting, and destroyed two vehicles in the process.

    “One person has been confirmed dead, while two police officers shot by the miscreants are currently receiving treatment. Four suspects have been arrested and investigations have commenced.

    “Meanwhile, normalcy has been restored to the area. Lagosians are urged to go about their lawful businesses as measures have been put in place to prevent further breakdown of law and order; and keen monitoring of the situation continues.

    “It is imperative to state unequivocally that the Lagos State Police Command will not allow any person or group of persons, under whatever guise, disrupt the peace currently enjoyed in the State,” the PPRO said in a statement on Twitter.

    “The RRS officers and patrol vehicles were shot at by several pump-action-rifle-wielding miscreants.”

    Bolanle Raheem: All policemen at Ajah police station transferred

    Every policeman attached to the Ajah police station in Lagos State has been transferred out of the division, TheNewsguru  (TNG) can authoritatively report.

    The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, made the disclosure in a series of tweets via the police social media handles on Monday.

    Recently, a news medium had done a report on Ajah policemen drinking while abandoning their duty post.

    The Lagos PPRO, Benjamin Hundeyin, appreciated the medium while noting that all the police officers working there have been transferred to another place.

    He said, “I can confirm that this publication has been overtaken by events. The new DPO Ajah, CSP Adolf Ogwu, had earlier in the week dismantled all the shanties around the police station.

    “In addition, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Abiodun Alabi, has already effected the transfer out of ALL personnel of the division, with replacement from other divisions. This would fully materialise in a couple of days.

    “While appreciating @MobilePunch for the exposé, we encourage more Lagos residents to, as usual, say something whenever they see something, as this would translate to a better policing experience for all. Remember, security is everyone’s business.”

    Investigations  had shown  that policemen attached to the Ajiwe Police Division, Ajah, Lagos State, regularly engage in consumption of alcohol in high quantity.

    According to residents of the area, the policemen are always under the influence of alcohol while on duty and on patrol.

    SAD: Trigger-happy policeman bolts after killing lawyer in Ajah

    A yet-to-be-identified trigger-happy policeman has reportedly shot and killed a female lawyer, identified as Barr Omobolanle Raheem.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) learnt Barr Omobolanle was returning from Christmas Day service on Sunday in Ajah, Lagos State when she was shot at by the errant police officer.

    She was shot in the chest and according to reports, the Lagos lawyer died instantly.

    A message on the matter by one Barr. Yvonne, a member of the NBA Lagos Branch reads:

    “My boss Barr Omobolanle Raheem was shot dead today, by a POLICE OFFICER on her way back from Xmas service at Ajah under bridge.

    “Her family just called me now, that they need a lawyer to stand in for them before the police change the narrative. They have taken the matter to Ajiwe Police Station.

    “The police officer is from Ajiwe station. Her husband was the one driving, Barr. Omobolanle was seated in the front with her husband.

    “The officer asked them to park and they needed the vehicle in front to move so they can park well, and immediately the police officer shot at a close range right into her chest.

    “On seeing what happened, the remaining police officers on duty there absconded.

    “After a while, some police men came and moved her body to the mortuary in Yaba, without obtaining any consent from her family members. Currently her family has located where they moved her body to”.

    Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the sad incident and disclosed the officers involved have been taken into custody.

    SP Benjamin Hundeyin, Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command confirmed the incident, saying the officers would be moved to the SCID for further investigation.

    “Unfortunate and avoidable incident that was. The ASP that shot and two others with him have since been taken into custody. They are to be moved to the SCID for further investigation,” Hundeyin tweeted.

    Lady stabs boyfriend to death in Lagos

    The Police Command in Lagos State says it has arrested a 27-year-old woman, Miss Esther Paul for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend, one Sadiq Dahiru, to death.

    The command’s spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the arrest on Sunday, said the arrest was made after Mr Kazeem Obafunso, the stepfather of the victim reported the case to Ilasan Police Division.

    He said the report revealed that the 21-year-old victim was stabbed to death at about 1:00 a.m.

    The police spokesman said that a patrol team from the station was deployed to the scene at Oba Amusa Street, Agungi, Lekki area of the state.

    Hundeyin said that Dahiru’s body was moved to Evercare Hospital Lekki, where the victim was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

    He said the knife used by the arrested lady was recovered and the corpse was deposited at IDH mortuary, Yaba, for preservation and autopsy.

    Hundeyin said that preliminary investigation was ongoing, adding that the case would be moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

    Lagosian allegedly sets wife ablaze to death, flees

    A man, identified simply as Akpos, has allegedly set his wife, Risikat, ablaze at their residence on Ayide Osolo Street, Divine Estate, in the Ijanikin area of Lagos State.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) gathered that the suspect has been on the run after the incident. Akpos and Risikat were at their residence when an argument ensued between them.

    The argument reportedly degenerated and Akpos, out of annoyance, reached for petrol, poured it on his wife and set her ablaze.

    After perpetrating the crime, Akpos was said to have abandoned the corpse and fled the premises.

    Some good Samaritans reportedly rushed the victim to a nearby hospital for treatment, as the matter was reported at the Ijanikin Police Station for investigation.

    The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said Risikat sustained severe burns, adding that she died while receiving treatment in the hospital.

    He said: “A case was reported at the Ijanikin Police Station that a woman, Risikat, 48, allegedly had an altercation with her husband and in the process, he poured petrol on his wife and set her ablaze.

    “It resulted in serious bodily burns and she was immediately rushed to a hospital for treatment but she died. Efforts are on to arrest the fleeing husband.”

    In another development, a 25-year-old man has been arrested by the police in Bauchi State for allegedly killing a five-year-old child.

    The suspect, Anas Auwal, reportedly lured the minor with sweets and took him to his room.

    He later contacted the boy’s father and demanded N5m ransom, which the latter could not raise.

    The state Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, a Superintendent of Police, in a statement on Thursday, said the suspect hacked the boy to death after he realized that he recognized him.

    He said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Umar Sanda, had directed that the suspect be charged.

    The statement said, “The command has arrested Anas Auwal, 25, from Tsangaya village via Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State for kidnapping and gruesome murder of a five-year-old boy, Abba Yahuza, of the same address.

    “Preliminary investigation revealed that on October 11, 2022, around 2 pm, the suspect lured the victim into his room with sweets. He later called the victim’s father on phone and threatened him to bring the sum of N5m as ransom but the father told him that he could not raise the demanded amount.

    “The suspect later came to realize that the victim knew him and that his identity would be revealed if he released him.

    “Consequently, the suspect decided to hack the victim to death in his room and waited until night time, bundled him in a sack and buried the body in a shallow grave.

    “The suspect has confessed to the crime as the Commissioner of Police, Umar Mamman Sanda, directed that the suspect be charged.

    “In the same vein, the CP advised parents and guardians to be vigilant and security conscious about the whereabouts of their children.”

    The Police Command in Lagos state says its personnel rescued four teenagers and arrested a suspect alleged to have abducted them in the Surulere area of the state.

    The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this in a statement on Tuesday.

    Hundeyin said that the teenagers, all boys, had been reunited with their families.

    He also stated that operatives from Surulere Division of the command carried out the arrest of the 51-year-old suspect, one Austin Kanu.

    The police image maker in the state said that the victims were between the ages  of 16 and 18, stressing that they were discovered on Saturday at about 8.10 p.m. in an isolated area within the National Stadium, Surulere.

    Hundeyin said that the Chief Security Officer of the stadium, who discovered the teenagers while on routine patrol, alerted the Surulere Division of the command.

    “Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect lured the victims from Ogba and Agege areas to Surulere.

    “Their parents, when contacted, confirmed that the boys had been missing since the early hours of Oct. 29, 2022.

    ”Suspect will be arraigned at the conclusion of ongoing investigation,” he said.

    Hundeyin, therefore, enjoined Nigerians to be vigilant and report any suspicious happenings to security agencies.

    Davido son’s death: Anyone culpable would be dealt with – Police

    The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Lagos State Police Command has said anyone found culpable in the death of Ifeanyi Adeleke would be dealt with.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Ifeanyi, the 3-year-old son of David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, drowned in a swimming pool inside the Banana Island home of the Afrobeat singer on Monday.

    He was confirmed dead at the hospital, and the police in Lagos have now picked eight domestic staff of Davido for questioning over the unfortunate incident.

    “Eight domestic staff have been brought in for questioning. Anyone found not culpable will be let off. Those found culpable will be prosecuted,” SP Benjamin Hundeyin, Lagos Police command’s spokesman confirmed.

    TNG reports that Ifeanyi died three days after marking his 3rd birthday. Reports say the boy was rushed to Evercare Hospital in Lekki where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

    Davido and Chioma Rowlands, Ifeanyi’s mother were said to have travelled for a family engagement in Ibadan, Oyo State and left the energetic boy with his minders when the sad incident occurred.

    PDP suspends political activities over Ifeanyi’s death

    Meanwhile, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has announced the suspension of political activities for the week following the death of Ifeanyi, who is a nephew to the State Governor-elect, Ademola Adeleke.

    The Party’s Caretaker Chairman in the State, Dr Adekunle Akindele, who stated this in a condolence message in Osogbo, directed all party organs and committees to suspend activities in commiseration with the family.

    “We mourn the sorrowful exit of our son, Ifeanyi. We pray for the repose of his soul. It is a sad day, but we remain steadfast in our faith in the Lord of the Universe. Our condolence goes to Davido, our youth ambassador.

    “We commiserate with our father figure, Dr Deji Adeleke and the entire Adeleke family. We pray the good Lord to grant the family the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” Akindele stated.

    The police in Lagos State on Sunday said that a mob carried out jungle justice on two men, who allegedly robbed a POS attendant at the Igando area of the State.

    The command’s Spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident in his verified Twitter handle on Sunday.

    Hundeyin said the incident happened on Independence Day, stressing that the mob set the victims ablaze and burnt them  beyond recognition.

    ”Police arrived at the scene but the mob had fled. Investigation has commenced,” he said.

    The image maker, however, frowned at the action of the mob, wondering how to put a stop to the archaic and criminal practice.

    Hundeyin said jungle justice was a criminal case in Nigeria, calling on members of the public to stop the crime.

    He said rather, they should hand over the suspect to the police for prosecution.

    Meanwhile, the spokesperson has commended crime reporters for doing fantastic job in reporting the arrest of criminals in Lagos state.

    He, however, urged judiciary correspondents to do more, to update Nigerians on the progress of prosecution of criminal cases in various courts in Lagos.

    “This would halt the fallacy that, Police were collecting money and releasing suspects,” he said.

    The Police Command in Lagos State says no rally will be tolerated at the Lekki Toll Gate on Oct. 1.

    This is contained in a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, on Friday.

    He said, “It has become imperative to reemphasise that no form of rally whatsoever will be allowed at the Lekki Toll gate tomorrow.

    “This emphasis has become necessary to enlighten Nigerians that might be misled into converging at the toll gate.

    “A court of competent jurisdiction has ruled that no person is allowed to converge at the Lekki Toll gate for whatever reason, he said.

    Hundeyin said that the State Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alabi has warned that anyone who disobeyed the court order would be prosecuted.

    “In conformity with its mandate to protect life and property, CP Alabi, will leave no stone unturned in ensuring total compliance with the court order and an emplacement of adequate security in the state.

    “While the Command is not averse to the peoples’ right to freedom of assembly and association; and expression, the Command will equally live up to its mandate of ensuring that no person or group of persons is allowed to infringe on the fundamental human rights of others. especially rights to freedom of movement and right to dignity of human persons.

    “The warning therefore goes that anyone found flouting the court order or infringing on the rights of other Nigerians will be dealt with in accordance with the law.”

    According to the spokesperson, the CP enjoins all peace loving persons to go about their lawful duties without fear of harassment or intimidation, as adequate security have been deployed to ensure the safety of Nigerians.

    Alabi, he said, had reiterated that adequate security assets had been strategically deployed to ensure the safety and security of Nigerians at designated rally venues and across the state at large.

    A day-old baby, wrapped in a polythene bag has been retrieved from a dump of waste by officials of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) while evacuating waste in a street in Ikoyi, Lagos State.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the State, SP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the development, disclosing that the baby was retrieved by the LAWMA official on Thursday.

    “At about 10 a.m. on Thursday, LAWMA officials went to the Ikoyi police division to file a report on the discovery of the baby.

    “The officials reported that they were on their routine duty of moving wastes around the Ikoyi area when they discovered the newly born baby wrapped in a polythene bag.

    “A police team led by the Divisional Crime Officer rushed to the scene.

    “The baby was rushed to Military Hospital, 81 Division, Dodan Barracks Ikoyi for medical treatment before taking the child to Motherless Baby Home,” he said.

    The image maker said that but for the quick detection by the LAWMA officials, the baby would have died. Hundeyin further said that the baby was doing fine, stressing that investigation in the case has begun.

    ”Infanticide is a crime,” he warned.
