BREAKING: Big Brother dissolves BBNaija pairing in a cult-like ceremony

In what is an end to one chapter and the beginning of a new one, Big Brother, the unseen personality behind the voice in the Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) house on Sunday dissolved the Season 9 BBNaija pairing in a cult-like ceremony.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the cult-like dissolution of the BBNaija Season 9 pairing implies that the housemates, who entered the house in pairs, will no longer compete as pairs but compete against one another as individuals.

“For the past five (5) weeks, you have had someone to hold your hands when you felt uncertain; you have had a shoulder to lean on when you felt weak, and you have had an active partner to protect you while you slept your days away. You have had someone to drive your partnership to ensure you comfortably arrived at this point.

“Housemates, Big Brother, hereby, removes your crutches. Henceforth, you will walk this path alone. The pairs are, hereby, dissolved, and your fate is now squarely in your hands.

“You will no longer be a passenger on someone else’s ride. You will no longer be allowed to live in another person’s shadow. You will compete for yourselves and if you choose not to compete and decide to spend the rest of your days eating and sleeping, be assured you will do so at your own peril,” Big Brother said.

Before the rituals for the un-pairing began, housemates were made to put on carton brown hooded spirit and soul robes in preparation for the ceremony held in the arena in the Big Brother house.

A big silver pot covered with a red lid was placed in the middle of the arena, where the un-pairing ceremony took place, without lights on. The housemates eventually dropped their duo name tags inside the pot.

TNG reports no fewer than 28 housemates on Sunday July 28, 2024 entered the Big Brother house for the 9th edition of the reality show with theme, “No Loose Guard”. Since then, Tami, Floruish, Streeze, Ndi Nne, Zinwe and Radicals pairs have been evicted from the show.

The grand prize for this season is a spectacular ₦100 million, which includes a cash prize and an SUV, with additional sponsored prizes to be announced.

Celebrity Big Brother returns to 2.8m UK viewers

The return of “Celebrity Big Brother” to UK screens debuted to 2.8 million viewers, broadcaster ITV has said.

The reboot of the reality show saw stars including Sharon Osbourne, Louis Walsh and Fern Britto  join Princess Kate of Wales’ uncle Gary Goldsmith in the house.

It was peaked at 3.2 million viewers across all devices, according to overnight ratings.

The celebrity version of “Big Brother’’ follows the rebooted civilian iteration, which launched on ITV in October 2023, after it was axed by Channel 5 amid  ratings slump in 2018.

Goldsmith, who is the younger brother of Kate Middleton’s mother, said he hoped to show his “fun, caring and devilish” side on the show and not the “villain” he was portrayed as.

He is one of the contestants in danger of eviction after Osbourne chose three housemates who made the “worst first impression.”

Former “X Factor’’ judges – Osbourne and Walsh – who appeared on the ITV show alongside Simon Cowell for many years, reunited on TV as they became the first stars to enter the house and were tasked with a “secret mission.”

The pair were given a “secret lair” to judge the celebrities as they entered the house.

Later, Osbourne was tasked with choosing three to place in the “danger zone” at risk from the first eviction.

They also chose “Ibiza Weekender’’ star David Potts and British TV presenter Zeze Millz.

Tuesday’s episode would see Osbourne choose one of the three housemates to automatically face the public vote this week.

Also among the housemates are “Strictly Come Dancing’’ professional Nikita Kuzmin, “Love Island’’ winner Ekin-Su Culculoglu, and “Coronation Street’’ star Colson Smith.

I drank two plastic herbal bitters in five minutes – Tobi Bakre narrates role in ‘Gang of Lagos’

Former Big Brother Naija star and actor, Tobi Bakre has narrated what he did to fit in his role in ‘Gangs of Lagos’, a feisty crime thriller.

Tobi played Obalola, a street King (Eleniyi – the owner of men) who started up nondescript with a childhood nested with scars of little beginning.

He featured in the recent episode of Menisms audiovisual podcast.

Tobi said, “For ‘Gangs of Lagos’, that was challenging because like for the first time… you know as guys now, we build so many walls like you are ready for all the possible sad outcomes in life mentally. Like you don’t know it but… I was now playing the role of a strong guy but then in the same movie, he had moments when he had to be vulnerable. Bro, I had the toughest time. I had to tear my walls down.

“You know those plastic [herbal bitters] drinks na? I drank two within the space of five minutes. I just felt like I drank water because I didn’t feel anything. I was listening to the saddest music. This is the song I always remember from Gangs of Lagos, Celia song by Tiwa Savage. It is a very emotional song. I wasn’t trying to fake it [my role]. I needed to be actually sad, I needed to be there. So, I was putting myself in the scenario of this character.

“I was self-reflecting. There was a graveyard right in front of where we were shooting. So my head was in different places. And eventually, we shot that scene. After we shot it, and they said ‘cut’, everyone stayed quiet. And people in the background were sobbing. It was almost as if for that moment everybody forgot that we were acting and some people were actually tearing up.”

The ex-TV reality star said he rolled on the floor and rubbed sand on his face to fit into the role.

He, however, said his challenging task was the character’s vulnerability.

He revealed that he struggled to leave the character for a while after the movie.

Tobi said, “It [the character] leads sometimes like my wife now when I got home initially… Hardly, anger is the last emotion you can get but my fuss became shorter. On the road I’m driving, my fuss is a bit shorter because of this character I’m currently infusing. So, after the whole thing I had to just ease out.”

I wish I stayed longer, says Mmeli, evicted BBTitans housemate

Mmeli Khumalo, ‘Mmeli’, one of the recently evicted housemates in the ongoing television reality show, Big Brother Titans, said he wished he stayed longer in the show.

Mmeli, during a Zoom interview session with journalists on Tuesday, said he would have loved to stay longer in the show to know his fellow housemates more.

The 25-year-old South African said his eviction was shocking as he thought he was giving the needed vibe along with his partner on the show, Jenni O.

“There is nothing I would have done differently on the show but I wish I stayed longer to know people’s story more, I did not regret anything I did in the house.

“Having been nominated for possible eviction, I was not surprised but honestly, I did not think I was going to be evicted because I had so much confidence in ourselves (Jenni Li).

“I feel we were the ones doing the action, it was a total surprise and I was shocked,” he said.

Mmeli said he felt he was evicted quite early because he said a lot in the course of the show that were misinterpreted by his fellow housemates.

“I feel I was evicted because I said so much things and am a blunt person, my words are sharp, I can remember Jenni O told me at some point, am not afraid of it, I stand by my truth,” he said.

When asked if he had anyone he would be looking out to work with after the show, he said he would gladly interact with any of the housemates.

“I’m looking forward to modeling, I’m eager to do anything even if it is marketing Nigeria, I will take every opportunity that comes by the horn.

“I’m so excited for whatever that is out there for me, am just ready for anything,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Mmeli and Jenni O with the paired name ‘Jenni Li’ were evicted from the show during the last eviction on Sunday night.

As the show runs into the fifth week, 18 housemates are left to compete for the grand prize of $100,000.

  • 2023 elections: Labour Party expresses fear as Big Brother Titan set to premiere

2023 elections: Labour Party expresses fear as Big Brother Titan set to premiere

The Labour Party (LP) has warned Nigerian youths against the new reality show, Big Brother tagged: ’The Titans’, saying it was a distraction to them.

Dr Yunusa Tanko, the Chief Spokesperson of the LP presidential Campaign Committee, (LP-PCC), stated this during a press briefing in Enugu, on Wednesday.

According to him, it is targeted at distracting them from casting their votes on the election dates.

Tanko alleged that the reality show was being sponsored by one of the major opposition parties, to distract the youths from voting their choice of candidate

The television programme is designed to hit the airwaves by Jan. 15 barely 40 days to general elections.

Tanko said, “The essence of this press conference is to alert the ever vibrant Nigerian youths of the hidden agenda behind the new reality show tagged: “The Titans”.

“We have credible information that it’s being sponsored by one of the major opposition parties to distract the Nigerian youths from changing the leadership that has placed them in perilous times laced with abject poverty,” he said.

He stressed that the information made available to them revealed that the son of one of the presidential candidates in active collaboration with others visited South Africa to hatch this plan.

“As a party with the sole aim of turning our dear country into a place where poverty, unemployment, ‘japa’ will be seen as a taboo is being threatened by an opposition that hates the Nigerian youths with passion.

“Big Titan or whatever they may call it, will distract the youths from taking what belongs to them now.

“The Big Brother Naija ended not long ago, why the ‘Titans’ now that we are facing a major election that will determine the future of the Nigerian youths,” he queried.

Tanko said that the reality show now was laced with a lot of unforeseen dangers for the youths because their attention would be divided.

“As a party we are not against reality shows because it helps the Nigerian youths to break the poverty line but for now, for the common good of all it should be shifted to another convenient date.

“This should be after the general elections must have been concluded.

“Those putting together a reality show at this time when we are counting days to the general elections are enemies of the Nigerian youths and by extension all well meaning Nigerians,” Tanko said.

He said the question Nigerians should be asking the organisers was whether they were truly friends of the political entity known as Nigeria or enemies of progress.

The LP-PCC spokesperson further said the reality show was concocted and designed by a major opposition political party stressing that at the right time they would unmask them to the Nigerian youths.
