  • Buhari salutes SGF Boss Mustapha on 63rd birthday

    President Muhammadu Buhari has described the Secretary to the Federal Government (SGF) Mr Boss Mustapha as “a hardworking and committed public official.”

    In a goodwill message to the SGF on the occasion of his 63rd birthday, the President wrote: “I am proud of your amazing zeal and commitment to duty and your passion for the progress of Nigeria.”

    According to the President, Boss Mustapha “is a team leader who inspires others in addition to his humility, which are essential ingredients of leadership.”

    “Since your appointment as SGF, you have carried out your responsibilities with humility and impressive dedication, and I urge you not to rest on your oars”, President Buhari further noted.

    Buhari, in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, also wished him many Happy Returns.

    Queen Elizabeth celebrates 93rd birthday with parade; Meghan in attendance

    Queen Elizabeth II on Saturday celebrated her 93rd birthday with a parade, a cause for Meghan, the duchess of Sussex and wife of Prince Harry, to make her first official engagement since the birth of their son Archie in May.

    Elizabeth II is the Queen of the UK and the other Commonwealth realms, she was born in London as the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York, they later became King George VI and Queen Elizabeth.

    The queen’s birthday falls on April 21, however, she traditionally plans birthday festivities for June due to the typically warmer weather.

    The queen arrived at the Horse Guards Parade near Buckingham Palace by carriage, where some 1,400 soldiers took part in the spectacle.

    The queen’s husband, Prince Philip, who turns 98 years old on Monday, did not attend; he has rarely been seen in public since entering retirement.

    Later on, the queen, with her family, are scheduled to watch the Red Arrows air show from the balcony of the palace.

    The crowds were especially thrilled to see Meghan, who did not participate in the official events that took place for U.S. President Donald Trump’s three-day state visit to Britain this week.

    Report says the former actress is considered a sharp critic of Trump’s policies.

    Ambode mourns as elder statesman, Pa Fasinro dies few months to 100th Birthday

    Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state on Sunday expressed sadness over the death of a founding father of the state, Pa Hassan Fasinro.

    Ambode, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Habib Aruna, said Fasinro was one of the greatest founding fathers of Lagos, saying that he was one of the main architects of Lagos.

    Fasinro, a Senator in the Second Republic and the first Clerk of Lagos City Council, passed on at 8:29 p.m. on Sunday after a brief illness.

    He would have clocked 100 years by September.

    “This is a very sad loss, personally for me and for every Lagosian. I was personally looking forward to celebrating Papa at 100 later in September this year, but we cannot question God for calling him at this time.

    “Papa was a hero. He was a father in the true sense of the word. We cannot write the Lagos story without recourse to the roles that he played from the start and from the bottom of our hearts.

    We appreciate the role that he played in building Lagos to what it is today.

    Ambode commiserated with the family of the late elder statesman and urged them to uphold the ideals he stood for.

    He said that the nation would continue to draw inspiration from his life and times.

    “His demise, just like that of our heroes past, must never be in vain. There can be no better time to unite together to achieve a better and more prosperous Nigeria,” he said.

    He said Fasinro paid his dues and had left his footprints on the sands of time.

    “On behalf of the government and people of Lagos State, I want to express our heartfelt condolence to the family of Pa Fasinro on this great and irreparable loss.

    “He was a pride to our country, our state and we will surely miss him,”Ambode said.

    Auchi poly lecturer commits suicide few days to promotion, 47th birthday

    A lecturer in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, Mr. Patrick Okojie, has committed suicide three days to his 47th birthday.

    The decaying corpse of Okojie was found at his plot of land at Igbira Camp, along Igarra/Auchi road, four days after he was said to have been missing.

    Okojie, who left behind a wife and three children, was said to have been due for promotion to Chief Instructor by month’s ending before he died.

    Family sources said he did not leave any suicide note.

    It was however gathered that he had made two previous attempts at committing suicicde.

    The source said he left home on March 4th and was found on the 8th while the rope he used to hang himself was found on his neck.

    He was said to have driven out of the house as if he was going to the office.

    Spokesman for the institution, Musa Oshiobugie, did not answers call on his mobile but a top management staff described the incident as a family affair.

    Edo Police spokesman, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, said he was yet to be briefed on the incident.
