Boehly, Tuchel discussing Chelsea bid for unhappy Ronaldo

Premier League side Chelsea are considering a bid for Manchester United star, Cristiano Ronaldo.

It’s been claimed Ronaldo has made a transfer demand to United in recent days.

The Sun says the board is determined to stand firm and refuse to sell – but the Portuguese star insists they should give the green light to any ‘acceptable’ bids.

And that could see the five-time Ballon d’Or winner join rivals Chelsea, who finished third last season – and therefore can offer Champions League football.

Blues manager Thomas Tuchel is on the hunt for a new striker following Romelu Lukaku’s season-long loan to Inter Milan.

That leaves Timo Werner and Kai Havertz as the only players who can really play up front in the squad.

New Chelsea owner Todd Boehly recently met with Ronaldo’s agent – Jorge Mendes – to discuss a host of topics, including a potential move for the sporting icon.

  • Transfer: New Chelsea owner, Boehly makes £200m available

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is making £200m available for summer signings.

The Telegraph says Boehly has promised manager Thomas Tuchel six new players, with Champions League qualification the minimum target next season.

Among the main targets are Matthijs de Ligt (Juventus), Jules Kounde (Sevilla) and Raheem Sterling (Manchester City), with Jonathan Clauss (Lyon), Ousmane Dembele (Barcelona), Richarlison (Everton) and Gabriel Jesus (Manchester City) also mooted.

The report details that Tuchel has held transfer summits with the new owner as the Blues target success in the 2022-23 campaign.

A source told The Telegraph: “The key is to basically work with Tuchel to come up with the best players that are available. We really want to make sure we have a good defence.

“We’ve got depth in midfield. We’re not desperate for an out-and-out striker.

“Fortunately, there’s reasonable opportunities in the market right now in order to satisfy the fans’ desire to be competitive. I think it’s a combination of moves and there’s five or six that we’re going to look to make.”

  • EPL: I will not spend big like my predecessor-Chelsea owner, Boehly

Chelsea owner, Todd Boehly, has informed his club management that he will not spend as much as his predecessor Abramovich did.

He warned that clubs will no longer be able to sign players “at any price” due to the risks of sanctions from breaching UEFA’s financial fair play rules.

Recall that Boehly led an investment group to take over the Blues last month.

The American bought the Premier League side after Roman Abramovich put the club up for sale following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Chelsea have been the most successful team in England since Abramovich bought the club in 2003, mostly due to the Russian’s investment.

“UEFA takes it seriously and will continue to take it seriously. [More teeth] means financial penalties and disqualification from sporting competitions.”
