The vice president is in Maiduguri for the Eid-ul-Adha celebration.

“In a nutshell, we went with governor to pay homage to the Shehu of Borno; he raised some very poignant challenges facing the society; especially with regards to infrastructure deficit.

“We conveyed to him the best wishes from President Bola Tinubu and that the challenges would be vigorously addressed especially the issue of especially the issues of the Dikwa-Gambolu-Ngala road.

“It will certainly be addressed; that of youth unemployment and youth restiveness will also be addressed.

On his part, Sen. Tahir Monguno, (APC-Borno North), said that the vice president’s visit to his home state was a home coming as indicated in the massive reception he got.

“Well, you know, the visit of the vice president to Borno, being his first official visit for Sallah festivities, is home coming.

“Home coming in the sense that the vice president was the governor of Borno for eight years and he represented a senatorial district for four years.

“So, his coming is home coming and a celebration of his various attainments in life as clearly manifested by the outpouring of support.

“The massive support from all corners as we entered Maiduguri and the testimony of the Shehu of Borno to the fact that he is one of us.’’

Monguno said that the  Shehu of Borno raised concerns on some challenges bedeviling the state like roads, agriculture and security .

He said that the vice president assured that the Federal Government would find solutions to the problems highlighted by the traditional ruler.

“So, all in all, the coming of the vice president to Borno today for the Sallah festivities is homecoming and the massive show of support is a clear manifestation of the fact that he is a grassroots politician.

Zulum probes hospital staff for allegedly rejecting accident victims

Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno has directed the Ministry of Health to investigate and fish out medical staff on duty for allegedly rejecting victims of accidents rushed to Umaru Shehu Ultra Modern Hospital in Maiduguri.

Zulum gave the directive on Thursday at the Accident and Emergency Unit of the hospital.

The governor’s visit to the facility was in response to a video clip that went viral on social media showing how some medical officers allegedly rejected accident victims brought to the hospital.

He gave 24 hours for a probe team to identify the medical workers involved and to recommend appropriate sanctions.

“What happened is inhuman and unacceptable,” Zulum said as he addressed health workers at the hospital.

“A situation where patients are left crying for help, yet a hospital rejects them? We will not allow such a situation to repeat itself.

“I see no reason why disciplinary action will not be taken against the erring staff in this hospital.

“If any medical doctor or any personnel in any of our facilities is not willing to attend to patients without cogent reason, he or she should equally be fired without hesitation,” Zulum declared.

He ordered that: “Within the next 24 hours, the Hospital Management Board and the Ministry of Health should investigate the incident and ensure disciplinary measures are enforced against all those on duty that refused to admit victims of the accident brought here.”

The governor noted that the state government has invested heavily in the health sector, including the welfare of the medical officers, across the state.

He therefore called on medical officers to reciprocate the gesture by providing quality healthcare services to all patients without discrimination.
