Borussia Dortmund name Terzic as new coach

Edin Terzic returned as coach of Borussia Dortmund on Monday, a year after leaving the same job.

He will sign a deal until 2025, Borussia Dortmund said in a statement on Monday.

Terzic was installed as interim coach at Borussia Dortmund in December 2020.

But by the time he had achieved a UEFA Champions League place and a German Cup triumph that season, Borussia Dortmund had already agreed to recruit Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Marco Rose.

Terzic then moved upstairs to become technical director.

Fast forward a year and Rose has been let go after an underwhelming campaign and Terzic was the obvious and cheap choice for the Bundesliga runners-up.

The 39-year-old German-Croatian takes on a side who are losing Erling Haaland to Manchester City but have already recruited Germany trio Niklas Süle, Nico Schlotterbeck and Karim Adeyemi.

Cologne’s Salih Özcan is also arriving.

Bundesliga: Borussia Dortmund part ways with coach

Borussia Dortmund said on Friday they have parted ways with coach Marco Rose after just one year, with media reports immediately saying Edin Terzic could return to take his place.

Borussia Dortmund are the fifth Bundesliga club in need of a new helmsman within the past six days.

Rose, 45, joined Borussia Dortmund last year from Borussia Mönchengladbach but they had an inconsistent season, never able to challenge Bayern Munich who claimed a 10th straight title.

Borussia Dortmund went out early in the UEFA Champions League and the German Cup.

They said the decision to dismiss Rose was made in a season-ending analysis, involving him and top officials led by chief executive officer Hans-Joachim Watzke, on Thursday.

“The day was not an easy one for all of us, as we have all held each other in high regard and continue to do so.

“After a season that was unsatisfactory for various reasons, we were forced to conclude that we did not achieve the maximum possible in many areas,” Watzke said.

Rose, on his part, said: “In spite of a difficult season with many uncertainties, I was convinced by our path.

“During our discussion, I developed the impression there was no longer a 100 percent conviction among all those responsible. We therefore ultimately decided together to end the cooperation.”

Rose’s departure at Borussia Mönchengladbach last year set an extraordinary merry-go-round at the helm in motion, with Adi Hütter joining from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Oliver Glasner took over at Eintracht Frankfurt in a move from Wolfsburg, with Julian Nagelsmann going to Bayern Munich from RB Leipzig.

Nagelsmann and Europa League winner Glasner are the only ones still in charge, with Hütter and Borussia Mönchengladbach parting ways on Saturday, and Jesse Marsch long out at RB Leipzig.

Also, Wolfsburg have gone through two coaches in Mark van Bommel and Florian Kohfeldt.

Kohfeldt had to go a few days ago along with Hütter, while Hoffenheim’s Sebastian Hoeneß followed in mid-week.

Markus Weinzierl resigned at Augsburg, and Rose is now the fifth man out in six days since the season finale.

Rose last year took over from Terzic who was made interim coach following the autumn 2020 departure of Lucien Favre.

Former assistant coach Terzic achieved stability by leading Borussia Dortmund into the UEFA Champions League and winning the German Cup with them in his final game in charge.

Popular Terzic was made technical director and it is being speculated he would now return to the coaching bench and become Rose’s successor.

The deal is expected to be announced at the weekend.

But there was no confirmation however from Borussia Dortmund who only said that there would be talks on the issue “over the coming days.”

Borussia Dortmund are meanwhile aiming for a serious title challenge next season.

For that, they have already signed three German international players — forward Karim Adeyemi and defenders Nico Schlotterbeck and Niklas Süle.

But they have lost star striker Erling Haaland to Manchester City and midfielder Axel Witsel has also left.

Transfer: Erling Haaland agrees Man City deal

Borussia Dortmund striker, Erling Haaland has reportedly informed the Bundesliga club that he would leave at the end of the season to join Manchester City.

There were reports late on Monday that Manchester City boss Ferran Soriano has got in touch with Borussia Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke.

He has informed him that they would activate a 75-million-euro (78.9-million-dollar) release clause in Haaland’s contract.

Haaland was also reported to have completed medical tests at the Erasmus hospital in Brussels on Monday.

Borussia Dortmund said the player was allowed to have the day off to “take care of personal matters.”

According to the report, the staff at the Erasmus hospital was surprised that one of the most desired football players in the world was suddenly there.

Haaland, however, reportedly decided to go to Brussels so the tests could take place without any fuss.

Borussia Dortmund’s head of professional football Sebastian Kehl had said on Sunday that a transfer could be concluded this week.

A replacement for Norway’s Haaland is already being lined up by Borussia Dortmund.

Kehl is hopeful a move for Germany international Karim Adeyemi, currently with Red Bull Salzburg, will soon be completed.

Haaland himself switched to Borussia Dortmund from Salzburg early 2020 for 20 million euros.

  • Perfect 10 for Bayern Munich as next Bundesliga title sealed

Perfect 10 for Bayern Munich as next Bundesliga title sealed

Bayern Munich on Saturday won a record-extending 10th consecutive Bundesliga title with a 3-1 home victory over second-placed Borussia Dortmund.

They thus became the first side in a major league to do so.

Juventus previously managed nine Serie A championships in succession but Bayern Munich are the first to have a decade of undisputed dominance in a leading division.

Bayern Munich have now won 32 German championships with 31 coming in the Bundesliga era from the 1963/1964 season.

A brilliant Serge Gnabry goal opened the scoring after 15 minutes, while Robert Lewandowski doubled the lead before the break.

In the second half, Borussia Dortmund cut the deficit through Emre Can’s penalty kick.

But in spite of goalscoring chances they could not find the equaliser needed to extend the title race, before Jamal Musiala ended matters six minutes from time.

Bayern Munich lead the table by 12 points with just three games remaining to give coach Julian Nagelsmann his first major honour in his debut season in Munich.

But while the personnel has changed in Munich over the last decade, the outcome of Bayern Munich winning the Bundesliga —— often with room to spare —- has remained constant.

Bayern Munich have not been at their best this season, as witnessed by their early exit from the German Cup and disappointing quarter-final loss in the UEFA Champions League.

But in over 31 games of the 34 match Bundesliga season they have remained untouchable.

“It was important for us in the end to finish it sensibly after the elimination against Villarreal”, Nagelsmann said, adding he remained “very ambitious” for the future.

Nagelsmann was showered in beer by his players, who danced on the pitch in front of their fans in the 75,000 sold-out crowd.

“The consistency of the club is exceedingly impressive,” said German federation president Bernd Neuendorf, who highlighted that it was the first title since 2019 celebrated in a full stadium due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Borussia Dortmund fought bravely, with Can’s 52nd minute penalty kick after Joshua Kimmich fouled Marco Reus.

They made the game tense and only a save from Manuel Neuer and block from Lucas Hernandez prevented Marco Reus levelling.

Star striker Erling Haaland also went close, firing over the bar from an awkward height.

But that was in stark contrast to the first half Bayern Munich dominated and it was too little too late.

A corner-kick broke the deadlock when Leon Goretzka headed to Gnabry, who controlled with his thigh and volleyed into the top corner from the edge of the box.

Gnabry had another goal disallowed for offside before Lewandowski notched his 33rd of the season from Thomas Müller’s pass after a careless Borussia Dortmund giveaway.

And when Musiala forced home after goalkeeper Marwin Hitz saved his initial shot, Bayern Munich could start their celebrations early.

Müller also reached the personal milestone of a record 11th Bundesliga title with this victory.

“We definitely wanted it today (Saturday),” Müller said. “We could play out the frustration from the soul —- everything is wonderful now.”

It summed up Borussia Dortmund’s title challenge this year —- of being good in places but not consistent enough in the whole contest to cause damage.

Meanwhile, results from matches elsewhere in the competition however did confirm qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Bayer Leverkusen boosted their own hopes of reaching the elite continental competition by going third with a 4-1 win at Greuther Fürth, which relegated the bottom-placed hosts.

RB Leipzig failed to repeat their midweek German Cup semi-final success over Union Berlin as late goals condemned them to a shock 2-1 defeat in falling to fourth.

Freiburg, who meet RB Leipzig in the German Cup final next month, fought back from two goals down but were held 3-3 by Borussia Mönchengladbach’s injury-time equaliser.

They stay fifth, two points behind RB Leipzig in the final qualifying berth to the 2022/2023 UEFA Champions League.

Cologne beat Arminia Bielefeld 3-1 to stay on the heels of Union Berlin above them in sixth, while Eintracht Frankfurt and Hoffenheim drew 2-2.

Transfer: Borussia Dortmund reach agreement with Karim Adeyemi

Germany international Karim-David Adeyemi will move from Austrian club side Red Bull Salzburg to German side Borussia Dortmund in the coming season.

Both clubs have reached an agreement and Adeyemi is to sign a five-year contract.

The deal is expected to be completed soon.

The striker is Borussia Dortmund’s third signing for the next season, after Bayern Munich defender Niklas Süle and Freiburg centre-back Nico Schlotterbeck.

According to media reports on Friday in Germany, Borussia Dortmund could pay 30 million euros to 38 million euros (32.3 million dollars to 41 million dollars) for the player.

  • Transfer: Man City face deadline to sign Haaland

Transfer: Man City face deadline to sign Haaland

Premier League side Manchester City are facing a deadline to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland before his buyout clause jumps.

BILD says striker’s £64million release clause must be activated by April 30.

That means all clubs bidding to sign him must register their intention by then – while the Norwegian must also notify his current club of his intention to leave.

Sources in Germany suggest he will make his plans clear before the end of March.

A move to the Etihad is becoming increasingly likely while Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain have all been keeping tabs on the 21-year-old’s situation.

However City are pushing hardest and should know in just over six weeks if they have been successful.

  • Manchester City set to sign Erling Haaland From Borussia Dortmund

Manchester City set to sign Erling Haaland From Borussia Dortmund

Premier league defending champions Manchester City have agreed to sign Erling Haaland from German side Borussia Dortmund in the summer.

The 21 year-old Norwegian professional footballer will be joining the premier League side after personal terms were discussed.

He will be made to undergo a medical test before finally putting pen to paper at the close of 2021/2022 season.

Haaland has a £63million release clause in his Dortmund contract, but his agent, Mino Raiola, is set to earn a huge payment. Those fees, plus a signing-on bonus, would likely take the total outlay of the deal towards £100m.

Report also say that Spanish side Barcelona and French Ligue 1 side PSG are also interested in signing the youngster on a permanent deal.

However, pundits have said that Haaland will most likely join Manchester city.

Haaland’s father, Alfie also played for Man city FC and still share close relationship with the English side.

Erling Braut Haaland is a Norwegian professional footballer who plays as a striker for German Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund and the Norway national team. A prolific goalscorer, Haaland is recognised for his pace, athleticism and finishing ability.

He is considered one of the best strikers in world football.

  • Bayern Munich extend Bundesliga lead to 9 points after beating RB Leipzig

Bayern Munich extend Bundesliga lead to 9 points after beating RB Leipzig

Bayern Munich had to fight hard for a 3-2 win against RB Leipzig on Saturday to extend their 2021/2022 Bundesliga lead over Borussia Dortmund to nine points.

Thomas Müller broke the deadlock in the Allianz Arena in the 12th minute, taking the rebound after goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi saved Robert Lewandowski’s effort.

However, it did not take RB Leipzig too long to level things up with Portuguese striker André Silva.

Müller hit the net again, but his goal was disallowed after video check.

Nevertheless, Bayern Munich were ahead before the break, thanks to a header by top goalscorer Lewandowski.

Early into the second half, RB Leipzig equalised again as Christopher Nkunku was not intimidated when he got face-to-face with goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

But the visitors were unlucky when Josko Gvardiol turned a cross from Serge Gnabry into an own goal, sealing the victory for Bayern Munich.

“We made too many mistakes in the build-up. You can’t make mistakes against a team like Bayern Munich,” RB Leipzig managing director Oliver Mintzlaff said.

Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann said his side secured a “beautiful win,” while Müller said they deserved the victory in spite of an equal game.

“Both teams showed an attractive game, both tried to be offensive, but I will say we deserved to win,” Müller said.

Earlier on Saturday, Eintracht Frankfurt were the winners of a thrilling game against VfB Stuttgart, taking home three points after a 3-2 triumph.

Evan Ndicka steered the ball into the net early in the game, but Waldemar Anton equalised for VfB Stuttgart before the break.

A stunner from Ajdin Hrustic gave Eintracht Frankfurt the advantage once again, until Sasa Kalajdzic put the hosts back in the game.

Eintracht Frankfurt, however, had the last say after Hrustic scored the winner in the 77th minute.

Cologne are dreaming about the UEFA Champions League after a 1-0 win over Freiburg.

It was Anthony Modeste’s powerful left-footed shot that moved them up to sixth in the standings.

Borussia Mönchengladbach were held at Arminia Bielefeld and did not improve their situation, remaining 12th in the standings after a 1-1 draw.

This is the first Gladbach game in over two decades without Max Eberl as their sporting director.

He stepped down from his position last week and some fans brought “Thank you, Max” banners to the stadium.

Augsburg left the relegation zone with an important 2-0 victory against Union Berlin.

A big mistake from the goalkeeper made it easy for Michael Gregoritsch to open the scoring and a stunner from Andre Hahn closed the case for the Bavarian team.

Elsewhere, Mainz beat Hoffenheim 2-0 with Jae-sung Lee and Moussa Niakhaté scoring within the last 10 minutes.

On Sunday, title contenders Borussia Dortmund welcome Bayer Leverkusen, while Wolfsburg host Greuther Fürth.

Hertha Berlin and VfL Bochum had played out a 1-1 draw on Friday.

  • Mkhitaryan defends move from Dortmund to Man Utd

Mkhitaryan defends move from Dortmund to Man Utd

Roma midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan insists he was right to leave Borussia Dortmund.

Mkhitaryan left BVB for Manchester United in 2016, where he would las barely a year before departing for Arsenal.

“A lot of nonsense was said during this time. People have said that I only did this for the cash. That’s nonsense.

“When I heard that Manchester United was interested in me, I wanted to go there. It was my big dream to play in England one day,” said the 32-year-old to Sport1.

He added: “I was happy in Dortmund, but sometimes you have to make tough decisions that may only come once in a lifetime, and you have to take your heart out and listen.”

  • Haaland going to Real Madrid 100% – Vieri

Haaland going to Real Madrid 100% – Vieri

Former Atletico Madrid star Christian Vieri says Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland will join Real Madrid next summer.

Vieri made the claim on his Bobo TV twitch channel.

In conversation with Antonio Cassano, Vieri said: “Well, on the other hand, they have told me that Haaland is going to Madrid at 100 per cent.

“That’s what they tell me, but I don’t know if it’s true.”

For his part, Cassano insists: “They have told me: ‘Be careful, that Bayern wants to sign Haaland’. And then also that Madrid want (Robert) Lewandowski for a couple of years. It would make sense to me.”
