PDP inaugurates 39 new BoT members

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday inaugurated 39 new members of it’s Board of Trusteees (BoT).

The BoT Chairman, Sen. Adolphus Wabara, while inaugurating the new members at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, said that they were nominees of states and zones.

Wabara said that the nomination of the new members was based on their dedication, experience and unwavering loyalty to the party.

He described the occasion as not only a celebration of a new beginning, but also a reaffirmation of collective commitment to the values and principles of PDP.

The BoT chairman urged the new members to consider their appointments as a call to service and uphold the integrity, unity and vision of the party as they strived for a prosperous and democratic country.

“Your role as members of the board is not only to guide and support the leadership of the party but also to act as a stabilising force in times of challenges and uncertainties.

“Today’s inauguration is particularly significant as we prepare to navigate the evolving political landscape and work tirelessly to restore PDP as the foremost party in Nigeria.

“The task ahead is demanding, but with unity, determination and unwavering commitment to the principles of democracy, we shall overcome,” he said.

Wabara also reminded the new remembers that their presence on the board was not only a position of honour but a position of responsibility.

“Let us continue to work together to uphold the vision of our founding fathers and build a stronger, more inclusive and more progressive PDP,” he said.

Speaking earlier. the acting PDP National Chairman, Umar Damagum, congratulated the new members, saying that the party would be looking forward for more members on the BoT.

Damagum, represented by the acting National Secretary, Setonji Koshoedo, assured that the National Working Committee would continue to support the board.

Speaking on the appointment, a new BoT member, Jones Onyeriri, said that the composition of  the board was a reflection of the party’s strength.

“It isn’t a big problem for some people that are defecting to other parties; even Jesus Christ, at a time, had some of his disciples who defected.

“So, for me, it is a sign that we are nearer to our crown. We have taken over and still strong.

“Nobody is sabotaging the party. Please trust me on this, as anyone that is doing that is already out of the party,” Onyeriri said.

Another new BoT member, Eddy Olafeso, said that the inauguration of the board was a regeneration of the glorious past, pledging that they would work together to ensure that the party continued to function as a strong opposition with new ideas, new people and new orientation.

“With the quality of leadership and the heritage of the past, we can make Nigeria better than it is today,” he said.

Asked why he resigned his position as Vice-Chairman, South-West when he went to contest for Ondo governorship election, Olafeso said that he did that as a democrat and loyal member of the party.

“There’s no reason for me to hold the party down. If I want to go for another position, I must leave that position as directed by the constitution. Things will work better.

“Discipline is part of democracy; commitment is part of democracy. We must adjust to the way we want to act.

“I did the needful; I’m loyal to my party. I can’t take my party to court. I’ll continue to serve it and do my best to solve the problems within the party,” Olafeso said.

NAN reports that other members inaugurated included: Labaran Maku, Ibrahim Shekarau, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Samuel Ortom and Nimota Ibrahim.

  • PDP BoT recognition of Udeh-Okoye invitation to chaos – Anyanwu

PDP BoT recognition of Udeh-Okoye invitation to chaos – Anyanwu

The embattled National Secretary of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Samuel Anyanwu, has described the recognition of Sunday Udeh-Okoye as the occupant of the position by the Board of Trustees (BoT) as an invitation to chaos.

Anyanwu, in a telephone interview with NAN on Wednesday in Abuja, said that BoT had no power to direct the party to recognise Udeh-Okoye as the party’s national secretary.

NAN reports that BoT, arising from an emergency meeting on Wednesday in Abuja, had called on the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) to recognise and immediately swear in Udeh-Okoye as the party’s national secretary.

This, the BoT said, was in obedience to the judgment of the Court of Appeal.

The BoT Chairman, Adolphus Wabara, while reading the communique issued at the end of the meeting, said that the decision followed the recommendations by the Taminu Turaki-led committee constituted by the board to study the legal disputes between Anyanwu and Udeh-Okoye, both of whom are laying claim to the seat.

The PDP has been embroiled in leadership crisis, as Anyanwu and Udeh-Okeydo have continued to lay claim to office of the PDP national secretary.

Wabara said that the BoT, in exercise of its constitutional powers, received, exhaustively considered and adopted the report of the Turaki-led committee with regards to the declarative judgment of the High Court of Enugu, as upheld by the Court of Appeal on the matter.

“Consequently, the BoT by adopting the report, recognises Udeh-Okoye as the substantive national secretary of PDP,” he had said.

Wabara said this was in full obedience to the declaratory judgment of the High Court of Enugu, as upheld by the Court of Appeal, as there had been no contrary or overriding judgment from any court of superior jurisdiction.

NAN reports that a High Court and the Court of Appeal, both sitting in Enugu, had, on Dec. 20, 2024 and Jan. 14, removed Anyanwu from office and recognised Udeh-Okoye as the PDP national secretary.

Anyanwu, however, later secured a stay of execution order from the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, in an appeal No. CA/E/24/2024 on the judgment earlier delivered by the Enugu division of the appellate court.

Recall that the PDP Governors’ Forum had, in a communiqué issued after its meeting held on Jan. 30 in Asaba, called for implementation of court judgment recognising Udeh-Okoye as the national secretary.

Reacting to the BoT advice, Anyanwu said that the matter was already in court and the board had no power to offer such advice.

“You and I know that the matter is in Appeal Court and we shouldn’t even talk about it.

“The BoT members there, the tenure of some of them has expired; they can’t direct or advise the executive to do anything because their tenure had expired since October 2024.

“Beside, the matter is in the Appeal Court and there is a stay of execution order. So they (BoT) will be inviting chaos by making such statements,” Anyanwu said. (

Benue PDP nominates Ortom BOT member

The Benue State Working Committee (SWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has nominated Chief Samuel Ortom as a member of the party’s Board of Trustees (BOT).

The nomination was contained in a statement signed by Mr Tim Nyor, the State Publicity Secretary of the party, and made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Makurdi.

PDP in the statement said the decision was necessitated by the expiration of the tenure of the previous members, marking a significant leadership shift within the party at the state level.

“In compliance with sections 32(1)(g) and 32(4) of the PDP Constitution, the nomination was announced via correspondence from the party secretariat to Chief Ortom and signed by the State Secretary, Mr Dan Nyikwagh.

“The SWC believes that Ortom’s extensive experience and dedication to the party made him the ideal candidate for the position.

“After careful deliberation, the SWC, under the chairmanship of Ezekiel Adaji, unanimously endorsed you for the position, recognising your invaluable contributions to the party, your exemplary leadership, and your commitment to the ideals and progress of the PDP,” he said.

The SWC expressed optimism that Ortom’s contributions to the BOT would strengthen the party’s cohesion in Benue and ensure that the interests of the state resonate within the national party framework.

PDP headache: BoT’s decision to allow Ayu remain until after elections is ridiculous – Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has criticized the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Board of Trustees, BoT, for allowing the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, to resign after the 2023 general elections.

The governor spoke yesterday at the international wing of the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, on arrival from a brief trip to Spain.

“To say he should make another commitment that he will resign after the elections, for me, BOT resolution is ridiculous,” he said.

Wike accused the party’s National Chairman of failing to inform the PDP National Working Committee, NWC, of the N1.1 billion he received on behalf of the party.

He said: “Luckily for me, Ayu has now mentioned that he went to the presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, the Waziri of Adamawa where they discussed the issues of borrowing.

“Now, the question is, when you talk about borrowing, who approves borrowing? You must go to the NWC to say you want to borrow money.

“I challenge him to bring the records where NWC approved that the party should go and borrow N1 billion. What is the collateral?”

… declare unwavering support for Edevbie

… fervently believe their candidate will triumph

Barely five days for campaigns to begin nationwide, over 1000 representatives of the 25 local government councils of Delta State converged in Uro, Isoko South on Wednesday as the Delta Unity Group, a pro-David Edevbie organisation of the Delta State Peoples Democratic Party inaugurated its organs ahead of the campaigns for the general elections.

The event which was hosted by Sir Itiako Ikpokpo, former Chairman of Delta ALGON in his country home, witnessed the swearing in of members of the Board of Trustees, National Executive Council and local government coordinators of the group.

The group said while they are strong members of the PDP, they believe in the competence and capacity of Olorogun David Edevbie to lead the state to greater prosperity and they are confident he will emerge victorious at the Supreme Court as the PDP candidate for the Governorship election.

Speaking at the occasion, former Secretary to the State Government, Hon Chiedu Ebie assured that in filing a 23 grounds of appeal at the Supreme Court, Edevbie’s lawyers had studied the judgement of the Court of Appeal and are very positive that the Supreme Court will deliver substantial justice in the matter.

He urged the gathering to remain positive and stand firm on the Edevbie mandate pointing out that there can be moments of anxiety but the truth shall always prevail.

“In the case of Bayelsa PDP, they won at the High Court, lost at the Appeal Court and won at the Supreme Court. It was the same in the Ebonyi case where Odii won at the High Court, lost at the Appeal and also won at the Supreme Court. David Edevbie’s case is on the same trajectory.”

    We‘ll resolve PDP crisis: Wabara

Sen. Adolphus Wabara, the Acting chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT), has assured of resolving the internal crisis in the party.

Wabara said this when he led some members of the board on a visit to Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia at his country home in Umuobiakwa.

He said that the board would strive hard to ensure an amicable resolution of the internal crisis, ahead of the 2023 general election.

He said that the board would visit state governors and other stakeholders toward restoring peace in the party.

Wabara described Ikpeazu as a respected stakeholder of the party, adding that his contributions were essential in promoting the growth of the party.

Speaking, Ikpeazu said that genuine reconciliations were needed for the party’s victory in the 2023 general election.

He said that the party needed to take a review of the event that had played out in recent times to avoid a repeat of the bitter experience in 2015.

“Our ineptitude in the things we did not do well led this country to where we are heading now; otherwise we will have not gone into the hands of APC in the first place.

“We are not in the same place we were in 2015. We need to look at the variables that have changed and respond to these variables and dynamics accordingly.

“We need to remain hungry for power so that our adrenaline level will remain optimum and drive us towards attaining that goal.

“All countries in this world that have risen from the ashes of civil war, quarrels, and bitter clashes are countries that did genuine truth and reconciliation. I pray that we would realised that there is no half measure to victory in politics,” he said.

He said that while the caucus meeting had been adjourned to Wednesday, the National Executive Committee (NEC) and Board of Trustees meeting earlier scheduled for Tuesday to discuss important issues would also hold on Wednesday.

“After effective discussions, we have adjourned the meeting to Wednesday for the continuation of all the issues on the agenda.

“On Wednesday at 10 a.m. the caucus meeting will hold, thereafter the BoT meeting and then the NEC meeting,” he said.

The party had earlier fixed its NEC and Board of Trustees meeting for Tuesday.

  • APM suspends BOT members

    APM suspends BOT members

The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) on Saturday passed a vote of no confidence and suspended the entire members of its Board of Trustees (BOT) until further notice.

The party disclosed this in a communiqué, issued by its National Executive Committee (NEC) after its meeting on Saturday in Abuja. The communique was signed by 30 members of the executive and read by APM National Chairman, Mamman Dantalle.

The communiqué stated that the party officials met and considered the status of the state APM and the nation with respect to the frenzy being generated in the political ecosystem of the county.

The NEC said that it met and reviewed the constitutional structure, duties and activities of the Party’s BOT as enshrined in Article 9 Section A2 (A-K) of APM Constitution.

“After a thorough review, we resolved that the BOT of our Party as currently constituted is deficient, ineffective and cannot perform its official functions as clearly stated in our constitution.

‘”Consequently, we have decided to unanimously pass a vote of no confidence and suspend the entire BOT until further notice.

“That we have mandated the National Chairman and the NWC to henceforth continue to function in their stead.”

The NEC said that the party also unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the Dantalle-led the National working Committee.

The NEC said that considering the paucity of funds at the disposal of APM, the party would not allow its leadership to conduct its National convention and State Congresses before the forthcoming 2023 general elections.

It added that the vote of confidence was passed in consideration of the diligent efforts, sacrifices and dedicated manner with which the Dantalle-led NWC is leading the party.

“We have also considered the affairs of APM in all the States of the Federation and have decided to pass a vote of confidence on all the state working committees, ably led by all the State Chairmen.

“In the light of the some crucial exigencies in Edo, Anambra, Yobe and a few other states, we mandate the National Chairman and the NWC to, as a matter of urgency, provide viable solution and way forward in order to strengthen the party in the affected States in the overall interest of our great party.

“We mandate the national chairman and the NWC to initiate a process for the conduct of state congresses and national convention of our great party after the 2023 general elections ,” the communiqué read.

It added that the NEC demanded free, fair, credible, transparent, peaceful and inclusive elections and urged INEC to publish all political parties and their candidates contesting elections.

“NEC urged President Muhammadu Buhari to sign into law the amended Electoral Act, recently passed by the National Assembly, to enable INEC to prepare adequately for the 2023 general election crucial for sustainable democracy in Nigeria.

“NEC is alarmed by the spate of insecurity in the country and urged security agents to expedite action with a view to crushing these terrorists, insurgents, bandits, kidnappers and their sponsors, and bring them to book.”

Dantalle, fielding questions from journalists said that the BOT was supposed to be constituted by 13 members that spread across the geopolitical zones of the country.

He said that presently the board has only five members against the number specified by the party’s constitution, hence the need to suspend them.

“Article 7 of the APM Constitution empowers the NEC in an emergency meeting to make decisions on behalf of the general assembly,” Dantalle explained.

However, the APM BOT Chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Awiya, who was present at the meeting, in swift reaction during the press conference, said his suspension is illegal and cannot stand.

He also accused Dantalle of running the party’s affairs like a one-man business entity.

Awiya, who claimed that he brought Dantalle to be the chairman of the party, said his only offence was that he told Dantalle to carry every member of the party along.

He also faulted the claim that the party has no money to conduct its convention, saying we have money but whenever money is paid into the party accounts, the party national chairman diverted it to his personal account.

He also presented some unverified documents on alleged money supposed to be for the party that Dantalle diverted to his personal account.

He said that Dantalle had already been reported to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to recover the party’s money.

Reacting to the allegation, Dantalle said all the allegations are baseless and false, adding that certain money paid into Awiya account could not be accounted for till date.

IPMAN kicks against proposed inauguration of parallel NEC

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has warned against the planned inauguration of a parallel National Executive Committee (NEC) on Jan. 18 in Abuja.

Mr Tunji Adeniji, the Secretary, IPMAN Board of Trustees, gave the warning in a statement issued on Monday in Lagos, describing the proposed .parallel NEC as an illegal.

Adeniji said the warning was necessitated by reports of a plan to inaugurate new NEC members by some individuals.

He said the BoT led by Alhaji Abdulkadri Aminu has notified the security agencies of the situation, describing the move as a flagrant violation of the judgment delivered by the Supreme Court in Abuja on Dec. 14, 2018.

The BoT secretary said that the judgment read by Justice Musa Muhammad in suit No. SC15/2015 recognised Mr Chinedu Okoronkwo and Alhaji Danladi Pasali, as President and Secretary of IPMAN, respectively.

Adeniji said that the tenure of the executive would expire on Dec. 14, 2023, adding that IPMAN had already zoned the next president of the association to the North-West.

He said that any attempt to install another set of persons as NEC of IPMAN was null and void because the matter had been settled by the Supreme Court which was the final arbiter of justice in Nigeria.

Adeniji added that the Attorney General of the Federation, Mr Abubakar Malami, and the Inspector General of Police, Mr Usman Baba, have already directed that the judgment must be complied with.

He called on the security agencies to apprehend those behind the move to forestall breakdown of law and order.

According to him, IPMAN as an association has only one registered Board of Trustee (BoT) and registered constitution with the Corporate Affairs Commission

  • 2019: PDP summons BoT, Govs, NASS members, others for ‘crucial meeting’ today

…As R-APC, other new members demand waivers to contest in 2019

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Uche Secondus, has summoned a meeting of the top hierarchy of the party to discuss demands by those planning to join the former ruling party before the 2019 general elections.

Those expected at the meeting, according to a notice circulated by the National Secretary of the party, Senator Umaru Tsauri, are the party’s presidential aspirants, all PDP governors, former governors, members and former members of the party in the National Assembly.

Others are members of the Board of Trustees, PDP former Ministers Forum and all the 37 state chairmen of the party, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The meeting, according to Tsauri, holds in Abuja on Monday (today) afternoon.

Termed “crucial meeting “, the national chairman of the party, Uche Secondus would use the occasion to explain the interim report of the party’s Contact Committee to the attendees.

The committee, which is headed by a former Governor of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke, was asked by the National Working Committee of the party to talk to aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress and also liaise with former leaders in the country on how to wrest power from President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.

The committee was said to have met with former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan.

Secondus said the Imoke committee had been working hard and that he would brief the party’s leadership “soon,” when asked last Saturday.

Though details of the Monday meeting remained secret as of the time of filing this report, investigations however, revealed that Secondus would use the opportunity to brief the leaders of the party on the reconciliatory report by the Imoke committee.

A top source in the party said that the demands by those expected to return to the party or join afresh from other political parties would be tabled for deliberation.

The source said that majority of those aggrieved in the APC had agreed to return to the PDP but were said to have given some conditions.

The source said, “The meeting on Monday afternoon will discuss the report of the Imoke committee and the demands of those who had agreed to return to us (PDP) or join us afresh.

These people want to extract some commitments from the PDP before coming. They are likely to have learnt from how they were treated in the APC as they were actually never accommodated and seen as crucial partners in the running of the party and the government they collectively formed.

So, they have tabled some demands which we will all discuss and agree on.”

Asked if it would not be wrong to assure fresh members of positions before joining, the source said that negotiations were part of politics.

We all negotiate and agree on positions and offices. Besides, negotiation is a critical part of politics and life. So, their position is not strange, “the source added.

It was learnt that some members of the National Assembly were rooting for automatic tickets from the party to contest in 2019.

It was also gathered that some others were asking that they should be allowed to nominate their loyalists to join the members of the State Working Committees in their states and even at other levels.

Among those who were said to have agreed to return to the party is a former Governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, and the Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal.

It was also gathered that the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, is being expected in the former ruling party.

It was gathered that the meeting, which is an expanded caucus meeting, would also agree on waivers for the returnees to the party and its new members.

Specifically, the PDP constitution says its new members are to spend six months before being allowed to contest any position.

The Monday meeting, it was gathered, would empower the Secondus-led National Working Committee to grant new entrants automatic waivers to vie for any office of their choice in the party.

Secondus however confirmed in an interview that the party would grant the newcomers the waivers.
