BREAKING: Okorocha places N20m bounty on killers of Imo APC chieftain

Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha has promised a reward of N20 million to anyone with useful information on the killers of a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

The governor made the pledge on Friday, hours after Mr Sunny Ejiagwu, the APC chairman in Ideato North Local Government Area, was killed by gunmen suspected to be hired assassins.

Mr Ejiagwu was murdered, four days after he was elected as the APC Chairman in the LGA, along the Orlu-Akokwa Road on his way home after attending a meeting at the APC Secretariat in Owerri, the state capital.

The spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, Mr Andrew Enwerem, said the police have launched an investigation into the killing.

Meanwhile, the Imo State APC Chairman, Daniel Nwafor, has condemned the killing, describing it as unfortunate and unwarranted.

Mr Nwafor told reporters at the party’s state secretariate that the murder was capable of causing political chaos in the state.

He called on the security agencies to urgently launch a manhunt for the perpetrators of the act.

He recalled that the deceased had raised fears over his safety on Thursday during one of their meetings, decrying the volatile nature of his local government.

Mr Nwafor, however, called on party supporters in the state to remain calm as the security agencies work to ensure the perpetrators were brought to justice.

Attacks: Kogi places N5m bounty on assailants

The Kogi Government has offered a N5 million reward for any information that can lead to the arrest of the assailants behind the recent bloody attacks on some communities in the state.

The government in a statement in Lokoja on Wednesday said that the offer was to ensure that the perpetrators were apprehended and made to face justice for the dastardly acts.

Mr Kingsley Fanwo, the Director -General, Media and Publicity to the Governor, signed the statement.

“ Intelligence reports showed that the attackers at Agbenema on the afternoon of Monday, 19th March, 2018 appeared to be the same group which attacked Ojuwo Ajamàgbe, near Oganenigu in Dekina Local Government Area five days earlier.

” Kogi State Government and the security services are sparing neither expense nor effort to track down these murderers and ensure justice is served.

“ The government is immensely saddened by the attack on Agbenema, a peaceful community in Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State by mercenaries reportedly working for herdsmen in the area,”Fanwo said.

He said three people, including the traditional ruler of Agbenema, Onu Musa Edibo, were killed during the attack.

Fanwo said other persons injured in the attack are responding to treatment in hospitals.

He dismissed the report that the wife of the traditional ruler was among those killed.

Fanwo, however, reiterated government ’s commitment to the security of lives and property of residents irrespective of religious or ethnic affiliation.

  • Wike places N640m bounty on 32 wanted ‘cult leaders’ in Rivers

Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers has declared 32 cultists wanted in a state broadcast and asked the security agencies to go after them, putting a bounty of N20m each for information that could lead to their arrest.

The total reward is N640million, N440million more than what the governor offered for the arrest of Don Wani, the kidnap kingpin and cultist, linked with the killing of 23 people in Omoku on New Year’s Day.

The broadcast was a celebration of the killing of the criminal, whose real name was Johnson Igwedibia. He was killed by the military on Saturday at a hideout in Enugu.

According to Wike, 32 cultists remain in 12 local government areas in the state and had reneged on the terms of amnesty offered them by his government.

He listed them and said he wanted all of them arrested and prosecuted by the security agencies, pledging all assistance necessary.

“Based on reliable information by the security agencies, I hereby direct them to immediately arrest and prosecute the under-mentioned persons who have either reneged on the terms of the amnesty and or refused to embrace same by continuing with cultism, kidnapping and armed robbery in the state,” the governor said.

“The Rivers State Government will pay N20 million to any person who volunteers useful information that would lead to the arrest and prosecution of any of the afore-mentioned persons. Since 2015, we have been calling for tackling security issues devoid of political considerations in Rivers State in order to achieve maximum result,’’ he added

Governor Wike wanted to end the era of criminals running colonies in the state as he warned them to leave the state or risk facing the death sentence.

His government is proposing an amendment of the State Anti-kidnapping Law, which prescribed death sentence for criminals involved in cultism, robbery and kidnapping.

Wike warned that the State Government has zero tolerance for crime and criminal activities, adding that his administration will continue to adopt measures to protect lives and property in the state.
