Havertz scores first Arsenal goal in Bournemouth win

Kai Havertz scored his first goal for Arsenal with a penalty as they comfortably beat winless Bournemouth in the Premier League at Vitality Stadium.

Havertz, who has struggled since arriving from Chelsea in the summer, converted the second of two Gunners penalties to ensure their third consecutive away victory.

Bukayo Saka opened the scoring, heading in the rebound from Gabriel Jesus’ effort and Martin Odegaard scored a penalty to give Mikel Arteta’s side a comfortable lead at the break.

The Gunners’ dominance continued into the second half, and after Havertz scored, Ben White headed home from Odegaard’s free-kick in added time to add gloss to a comprehensive victory.

Bournemouth drop into the bottom three, with no wins from their first seven league matches under new manager Andoni Iraola.

EPL: Bournemouth, Chelsea settle for goalless draw at the Vitality Stadium

Chelsea football club settled for a goaless draw away to Bournemouth at the Vitality stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Chelsea had gone into the game winless in the last two premier League games but couldn’t also grab all three points against the Cherries.

Mykhailo Mudryk endured a torrid afternoon as Chelsea were forced to settle for a point on the road against a spirited Bournemouth,

The Ukraine international, signed for over £88m, barely got himself involved in the game and wilted as it wore on, before being hooked on the hour mark.

Chelsea had a number of chances – Raheem Sterling saw a free-kick bounce agonisingly off the post and onto the line, without crossing it, while Nicolas Jackson and Conor Gallagher both missed gilt-edged opportunities – but Bournemouth actually looked more likely to win the game late on.

Chelsea are currently occupying the 14th position after 5 EPL games this season.

What I thought about Bournemouth – Ten Hag

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was impressed by Bournemouth on Saturday.

United won 1-0 at Dean Court.

Ten Hag said: “When you are already safe [from relegation] two games before the end of the season, then you have done a really good job because the Premier League is really tough, it’s really strong.

“All the teams are very strong. So if you save yourself two games from the end, I think it’s a big reward.

“Big credit to the manager, his coaching staff and the team.”

  • EPL: What Lampard said after win against Bournemouth

EPL: What Lampard said after win against Bournemouth

Chelsea’s interim manager Frank Lampard on Saturday expressed his happiness to see his side finally playing like a team.

The former English Premier League (EPL) champions snapped a nine-match winless run in all competitions with a 3-1 victory at Bournemouth on Saturday.

Chelsea have looked a fractured outfit after a number of arrivals in the last two transfer windows and three different managers this season.

But they showed glimpses of finally gelling together as a unit to end a six-match losing run.

Chelsea are still 11th in the Premier League with four games left.

But Lampard said the win would be a boost as they look to end the season on a high after just their second away victory of the year.

“I’m happy. We came in off the back of a tough run. It’s been a tough year and there is a lot work to do,” he told reporters.

“But the performance and the result in isolation are really good, we deserved to win the game.

“It’s a nice step forward for the lads. To work hard and come to a place that has been very hard for a lot of teams this year… I’m very happy.

“In the modern game, those changes are huge. It’s important with the squad that we have that people feel like they can come in and affect the game.

“We’ve worked towards that and I think every one of them did.”

Lampard said there were still a lot of players finding their feet, especially youngsters, and urged them to “grasp” confidence from the performance.

“Typically at Chelsea, one or two have fed into the group and now we have more. It’s understandable that as a group finding rhythm and confidence can be difficult,” the former Chelsea player added.

“This is a first step. It won’t be plain sailing, but there is talent there and the players need to come together to get us to where we want to be.”

Chelsea’s next game is at home against relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest next weekend.

But tougher tests await with their last three games of the season against top-four sides Manchester City, Manchester United and Newcastle United.

EPL: Chelsea beat Bournemouth 3-1, Man City defeat Leeds 2-1 to retain top spot

After six losses in a row, Chelsea recorded their first victory under interim manager, Frank Lampard as late goals from Benoit Badiashile and Joao Felix saw off Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

Chelsea found the back of the net inside nine minutes when N’Golo Kante crossed from the right and Conor Gallagher found space in between defenders to head home.

However, Bournemouth hit back when they cut Chelsea open with a brilliant move that ended with Matias Vina curling a wonderful shot into the far top corner.

Blues went ahead eight minutes from time Badiashile headed home a free-kick and Felix made it three for Chelsea to wrap up a win for the Blues first time in 7 games.

The result means Arsenal must defeat Newcastle tomorrow to still be in the running to win their first premier league title in 19 years.
An Arsenal win tomorrow will reduce the deficit to just one point but City having a game in hand.

EPL: Arsenal survive Bournemouth’s threat, Chelsea secure win against Leeds United

Arsenal put their fans on the edge all through the duration of the game as the Gunners rallied back from two goals down to defeat the hard-fighting Bournemouth Football Club at the Emirate by 3-2.

Bournemouth’s Philip Billing opened the scoring in stunningly quick fashion, needing just 9.11 seconds to put the visitors in front. His goal is the second fastest in Premier League history.

The Visitors doubled their lead at the Emirates! Marcos Senesi gives Thomas Partey the slip to head Bournemouth two goals up against the league leaders.

But Arsenal fought back with two goals in an eight-minute span. First, Thomas Partey put home a shot following a rare moment of poor defensive play from Bournemouth.

Upon resumption of the second half, Ben White scores his first goal for Arsenal to draw them level with Bournemouth.

Then two substitutes combined with Reiss Nelson delivering a cross that Ben White blasted on goal with the referee confirming that the ball crossed the line.

However, Reiss Nelson grabbed the winner in the dying minute of the match with a stunner to put keep their title hopes alive.

Meanwhile at the Stamford Bridge, France Defender, Wesley Fofana earned Chelsea their first win in about 10 games thereby easing pressure on coach Graham Potter.

The first half of the encounter had ended 0-0 and it was looking like Chelsea was going to add to their Unwinning streak.

On-loan Portuguese Joao Felix rattled the bar but it was not until the 53rd minute that Fofana put away Ben Chilwell’s corner for the home team’s opener.

Fofana’s goal proved to be the only goal needed to secure three points as all efforts to score for both sides in the game proved abortive.

Despite the win, Chelsea will still remain on 10th points and will continue to hope for a continental slot come next season.

  • EPL: Bournemouth sack manager Scott Parker

EPL: Bournemouth sack manager Scott Parker

Bournemouth manager Scott Parker was sacked by the newly promoted Premier League club on Tuesday, three days after they were beaten 9-0 by Liverpool at Anfield for their third successive defeat.

“I would like to place on record my gratitude to Scott and his team for their efforts during their time with us,” the club’s owner, Maxim Demin, said in a statement.

“However, in order for us to keep progressing as a team and a club as a whole, it is unconditional that we are aligned in our strategy to run the club sustainably.”

The club said the search for a new manager would begin immediately and that first team coach Gary O’Neil would take over in the interim.

Demin’s comments appear to be a response to Parker’s post-match interview at Anfield after the Premier League record-equalling defeat.

Parker said that he was “not surprised” at the result and that he need some new signings to strengthen his side, which had finished second in the second-tier Championship last season.

“It doesn’t surprise me. This is currently where it is at this moment in time. The players need help. Today proved too big a challenge. The levels were far too big,” he said after Saturday’s defeat.

“We’ve got a decision to make as a club. There will be days like this. Time will tell. It’s a huge disappointment, a real humbling experience.

“We have some days where hopefully we can get some help in and support and help the current team, who came up from the Championship,” he added.

After winning their opening game of the season, at home to Aston Villa, the Cherries have suffered defeats in three straight games, but those fixtures came against Big Six opponents in Manchester City, Arsenal, and Liverpool.

  • Klopp reacts after Liverpool put nine past Bournemouth

Klopp reacts after Liverpool put nine past Bournemouth

Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp called it the “perfect football afternoon” after the Reds recorded their first win of the season with a record-equalling 9-0 Premier League victory against promoted Bournemouth.

They were just pipped to the title last term.

But the Merseyside club have struggled in the opening weeks of this campaign as draws against Fulham and Crystal Palace were compounded by Monday’s galling loss at rivals Manchester United.

Klopp’s calls for a reaction were heeded in style on Saturday when nobody inside a rocking Anfield could have predicted they would witness Liverpool matching their biggest top-flight win ever.

Luis Diaz, Harvey Elliott, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Roberto Firmino, and Virgil van Dijk scored in a whirlwind first half against shell-shocked Bournemouth.

Chris Mepham’s own goal set the tone for the second half, with Firmino, Fabio Carvalho, and Diaz scoring as Liverpool just failed to take it to double digits.

Asked to describe the win in one word, Klopp told the post-match press conference: “Needed.

“After a short pre-season with mixed results, having an absolute highlight (by winning the Community Shield against Manchester City) that early in the season, playing really good stuff and then dropping for some reason.

“We were not happy with the way we played. We had good moments in nearly all the games where we showed things which we are strong at, and other things where we have to improve.

“That’s what we had to do today, but you cannot make a list and take them all off the list step by step. You just have to give the game a proper direction and that’s why I loved the start today so much.

“You get this early goal and you get the second. And we kept going, scored different goals but always with the same purpose: keep going, put them under pressure, don’t stop.

“Then it’s 5-0 for half-time and I couldn’t respect more what Scott (Parker) is doing at Bournemouth in not the easiest circumstances, how I can see (it) from outside.”

He noted that at half-time it was important that they, again, kept going because it was early in the season.

“It’s not for us now to control it a little bit and let him score one and have this kind of bitter taste after a wonderful afternoon.

“You get out of the blocks again with 6-0 and then everybody’s scored. We could bring on the kids, which deserve it so much, so we could rotate if we want at the start of the most busy period I’ve ever experienced.

“I can say it already before we’ve played it will be crazy and in the end it was the perfect football afternoon for us.

“A lot of different goalscorers, all these kinds of things. Wonderful goals, fantastic situations and we all know that we needed something like that.”

Bournemouth manager Parker had warned of a potential backlash from Liverpool in the build-up.

He was left rocked by a result that underlined the need for new faces ahead of Thursday’s deadline.

“This is the toughest day as a player and certainly as a coach,” Parker said. “This is the toughest and most painful day that I have experienced, for sure.

“It goes without saying it’s a real humbling experience and one which was pretty shell-shocking, really, in the sense of the result.”

Arsenal maintain perfect start to go top of EPL

Arsenal swept aside Bournemouth to continue their perfect start and rise to the top of the Premier League table.

Captain Martin Odegaard put the Gunners in control inside the opening 10 minutes with a well-taken double.

After the break, William Saliba curled home a beautiful third before Gabriel Jesus saw his clever finish ruled out by VAR for offside.

It is the first time Arsenal have won their opening three fixtures since the 2004-05 season.

Bournemouth had won their first home game back in the Premier League against Aston Villa and there was a rousing feel to this Saturday teatime kick-off at the division’s smallest ground.

It took a mere five minutes for that feeling to be punctured as Odegaard tapped in after Bournemouth keeper Mark Travers had saved Gabriel Martinelli’s low strike.

The Norway midfielder struck again shortly after when he nabbed the ball off Jesus’ toes to sweep a clinical left-footed finish past the helpless Cherries keeper.

Arsenal bided their time before sealing the win but did it in style when the impressive Saliba elegantly found the top corner from the edge of the penalty area.

Jesus was then denied a deserved goal by a tight VAR review that ruled him just offside from Odegaard’s clever through ball.

It is very early days – and there are far harder tests to come – but the Gunners have laid down a marker with their superb start to the season.

  • Bournemouth seal Premier League promotion

    Bournemouth seal Premier League promotion

Bournemouth earned promotion to the Premier League with a 1-0 home win over Nottingham Forest in the second-tier Championship on Tuesday, sewing up second-place with one game to spare.

Bournemouth, together with Championship title winners Fulham, secured automatic promotion and will return to the Premier League after two years while Forest will go into the playoffs for the final spot.

Striker Kieffer Moore broke the deadlock in the 83rd minute, sidefooting powerfully home after Philip Billing found him with a clever free kick having shaped to shoot.

“We locked eyes and just saw the space. Thankfully Phil (Billing) played me the ball and the rest is history,” Moore told reporters.

Bournemouth got off to a good start, creating their first chance after a couple of minutes but Forest keeper Brice Samba denied midfielder Billing.

Forest striker Sam Surridge found space in the ninth minute after a brilliant long-range cross from defender Djed Spence but he smashed his finish against the crossbar.

Both sides created further chances in an attacking first half, which ended goalless.

After a slow start to the second period, Bournemouth got on top, but Forest held firm until Bournemouth defender Jordan Zemura won the decisive free kick on the edge of the box.

“I’ve not really slept this week. The first-half was emotional. Then we had a moment of magic from Kieffer (Moore) and we’re in the Premier League,” winger Ryan Christie told reporters.

Bournemouth will finish the season at home to eighth-placed Millwall on Saturday when Forest travel to 18th-placed Hull City.
