Cristiano Ronaldo told to leave Man Utd for Bournemouth

Football Pundit, Richard Keys has hit out at Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo, asking him to sign for Bournemouth if he wants to play every week.

Keys also insisted the 37-year-old is “part of the problem” at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo has 14 goals in all competitions since his return to United, including eight in the Premier League, but has now failed to score in his last six appearances.

It’s the Portuguese veteran’s longest goal drought for more than a decade.

Interim boss Ralf Rangnick opted to leave Ronaldo out of his starting XI for the midweek draw with Burnley, preferring to start Edinson Cavani as the central striker.

Ronaldo cut a frustrated figure on the bench, only given a 20-minute cameo before storming down the tunnel after the full-time whistle.

Much has been made of Ronaldo’s on and off-field histrionics with the striker often showing signs of frustration with his younger teammates.

And Keys, speaking on beIN Sports, said: “Jorge Mendes was talking to senior Manchester United executives about leaving at the end of the season.

“My own view of that is that he should leave now.

“I’ve been of the opinion all season long that I think he’s as much a part of the problem – not the whole problem – as anything and anybody else.

“The other night, when he went running down the tunnel at Turf Moor, having recently lectured everyone about being the leader he believes himself to be and that youngsters don’t do the sort of things he does…how does that encourage team spirit in the dressing room?”

“That was not good to see,” co-host Andy Gray replied. “Totally wrong for him to do that. He’s obviously disappointed at not playing.

“He’s playing against Burnley, the bottom of the league, he’s thinking ‘there’s a few goals in this for me’.

“He is 37 years of age and knows he’s running out of time to play top football. You want to try and play as many games as you can.”

Keys then interjected, adding: “That’s fine then, go and sign for Bournemouth and you’ll play every week.”

Ronaldo played the entire 90 minutes on Saturday against Southampton but failed to score as United dropped more points in the race for a Champions League finish.

  • Thierry Henry emerges as shock favourite to join Bournemouth

Thierry Henry emerges as shock favourite to join Bournemouth

Thierry Henry has emerged as a shock front-runner to become Bournemouth’s next manager.

The Cherries have held out on appointing a new manager following Jason Tindall’s dismissal last month.

Jonathan Woodgate has been appointed as interim coach and is being considered for the job full-time.

And the Daily Mail says Arsenal legend Henry is also on Bournemouth’s list of candidates.

Henry’s former team-mate Patrick Vieira – who last coached French side Nice – has been included, as has former Huddersfield boss David Wagner.

Chelsea legend John Terry, an assistant at Aston Villa, is an outsider for the role.

Henry is currently in charge of MLS side Montreal Impact, with one year remaining on his contract.

  • Man City close in on £40m Nathan Ake deal

Man City close in on £40m Nathan Ake deal

Manchester City are close to completing a £40 million ($52m) deal for Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake.

Relegated Bournemouth have accepted a bid from City.

It is understood there is an additional £1m in add-ons as part of the deal.

Netherlands international Ake, 25, joined Bournemouth in 2017 for a club record fee and has made 121 appearances for the Cherries.

City are also set to confirm the signing of Valencia winger Ferran Torres in the next few days for an initial fee of £21m ($27m).

  • EPL: Liverpool rally to beat Bournemouth

EPL: Liverpool rally to beat Bournemouth

Jurgen Klopp said he will “never compare” himself to former Liverpool manager Bill Shankly after his side beat Bournemouth to take another major step towards a first league title in 30 years.

The victory was Liverpool’s 22nd successive Premier League win at Anfield, breaking the English top-flight record set by Shankly’s team in 1972.

“We didn’t think about that number before the game, but after we can,” said Klopp. “It’s nice, it’s special, but today is a very good example that we have to fight.”

The hosts fell behind in controversial circumstances, Callum Wilson slotting home Jefferson Lerma’s low cross after appearing to shove Joe Gomez in the build-up to the goal.

Liverpool soon hit their stride, however, and Mohamed Salah – making his 100th league appearance for the club – restored parity with a low finish after Sadio Mane dispossessed Jack Simpson deep inside the Cherries’ half.

Mane latched on to Virgil van Dijk’s perfectly weighted through-ball to complete the turnaround, but Liverpool needed a brilliant goal-line clearance from James Milner to prevent Ryan Fraser from hauling Bournemouth back on level terms in a nervy second half.

“We’re not geniuses, but we can really fight and that’s all we have to do until the end of the season,” said Klopp, who confirmed captain Jordan Henderson – missing with a hamstring injury – is likely to resume full training on Sunday before the Champions League last-16 second leg at home to Atletico Madrid.

“I think he will train tomorrow. If that looks good, I have to make a decision.”

The win means Liverpool could be champions by the time they play Everton in the league on 16 March – if Manchester City lose their next three games against Manchester United, Arsenal and Burnley.

Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth side remain in the relegation zone, level on points with Watford and West Ham but with a worse goal difference than their nearest rivals at the bottom.

  • Brighton beat Bournemouth 2-0

Alireza Jahanbakhsh and Aaron Mooy both broke their goalscoring ducks for Brighton and Hove Albion who returned to winning ways with a 2-0 home win over Bournemouth on Saturday.

Jahanbakhsh, who was given his first start of the season, repaid Graham Potter’s faith in the midfielder for the English Premier League (EPL) fixture.

He scored as early as the third minute with a fierce, low strike into the far corner.

Bournemouth had a couple of chances to equalise in the first half.

But Brighton defenders Dan Burn and Lewis Dunk were on hand to make last-ditch blocks as the home side went into the break 1-0 up.

Brighton right back Dan Burn then thought he had scored his first goal for his club, too.

That was when he put the ball in the back of the net during a scramble in the box.

However, VAR disallowed it for a marginal offside call when the set-piece was taken.

Mooy capped a man-of-the-match performance by doubling Brighton’s lead in the 79th minute when he latched on to Leandro Trossard’s pass.

He took two sublime touches to set himself up for a curling shot that beat goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

The win, Brighton’s first at home in four games, lifted them up to 13th in the standings.

Bournemouth remained in 16th —- two points above the relegation zone —-after their seventh loss in nine games.

  • Bournemouth stun Chelsea at Stamford Bridge

Dan Gosling’s late goal gave Bournemouth their first win since early November in a scrappy encounter at Chelsea.

The match looked to be heading for a goalless draw when Gosling flicked the ball over his and Kepa Arrizabalaga’s head, the goal originally ruled out for offside.

But the video assistant referee (VAR) awarded the goal, ending Bournemouth’s five-match losing streak and earning them their third away win of the season.

Bournemouth have now beaten Chelsea three times in their five Premier League visits to Stamford Bridge.

Their last Premier League points had come on 2 November, when they beat Manchester United at home.

Frank Lampard’s side had lost three of their previous four top-flight games and lacked tempo and creativity as they welcomed Bournemouth, who move up to 14th in the table.

Mason Mount and Emerson had the best chances to score for the hosts, but they were undone by a resolute Bournemouth defence, who thwarted their opponents’ every move.

  • EPL: Liverpool 11 points clear after Bournemouth win

Liverpool moved 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League with a comfortable win over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, one of seven changes for the Reds, opened the scoring after a brilliant long-range pass from Jordan Henderson.

Naby Keita made it 2-0 before the break, slotting in with the outside of his foot after Mohamed Salah set him up with a sublime backheel.

Keita then turned provider for Salah as Liverpool eased to victory.

It extends Liverpool’s club record unbeaten run to 33 league games and they have won 15 of 16 Premier League games this season.

The Cherries have now lost five consecutive matches and were dealt more bad news when Nathan Ake and Callum Wilson were both forced off with injuries either side of half-time.

Leicester City, Liverpool’s nearest rivals at the top of the league table, do not play until 14:00 GMT on Sunday, when they travel to Aston Villa. Defending champions Manchester City host neighbours Manchester United later on Saturday.

  • EPL: Crystal Palace move to fifth after home win

Jeffrey Schlupp struck in the second half as 10-man Crystal Palace beat Bournemouth to move up to fifth in the Premier League.

The hosts lost Mamadou Sakho early in the first half when he was sent off for a high challenge on Adam Smith.

Bournemouth dominated possession from that point but failed to make the most of their man advantage as they rarely tested Vicente Guaita in the Palace goal.

Philip Billing hit a shot straight at Guaita at the end of the first half, while Dominic Solanke just failed to connect with a dangerous low ball shortly after the restart.

It appeared as though the first Premier League match to be broadcast on Amazon Prime would end goalless, but instead the hosts snatched victory when Schlupp, on as a first-half substitute for the injured Patrick van Aanholt, weaved his way through the Bournemouth defence before tucking home a low shot.

After a run of five games without victory, Palace have now won their last two having also beaten Burnley 2-0 at the weekend.

Defeat for Bournemouth was their fourth in a row and leaves them in 12th.

Bournemouth goalkeeper, Joseph Oluwabusola, has his eyes set on securing the starting spot, when the Golden Eaglets take on Hungary at the 2019 FIFA U17 World Cup on Saturday, October 26, according to AllNigeriaSoccer.

Oluwabusola was born in Essex, England and first visited Nigeria in 2018, for an U17 training camp.

It is under that, he opted to represent the West African nation over England, because he is keen to know his roots and add value to Nigerian football.

Oluwabusola has adjusted quickly after the initial culture shock.

He is now able to communicate with his team-mates in a mixture of local dialects – Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba and Pidgin English.
