Breast cancer not demonic, seek medical help, pray – NMA

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) says breast cancer, like every other cancer, is not demonic but a medical issue that should be treated physically.

The Chairman of the Cross River chapter of the association, Dr Felix Archibong, made this known in an interview with NAN in Calabar during the Go Pink Day celebration.

The Calabar Go Pink Day celebration was to sensitise the people about the dangers of breast cancer and the need for early detection for patient’s survival.

The theme of the celebration for 2023 is: “Reset Breast Cancer, From Screening to Survivorship.”

Archibong, who also urged patients to pray, advised that they should equally visit hospital and get the correct diagnosis, adding that it was unfortunate that most cancer cases were presented late.

“This is an open campaign even to religious bodies, breast cancer is not demonic but a medical issue, so, don’t stop going to church or praying but seek care in a medical facility.

“A lot of people believe the breast is a private part and should not be exposed, this is why we are sensitising people on ways to carry out self breast examination once a month, one week after menstrual flow.

“Also, medical breast examination should be done at least once a year, let it be like your birthday gift to yourself annually, so, you don’t forget because noticing cancer early makes it easier to treat.”

On his part, Mr Yegwa Ukpo, the Executive Director of Asi Ukpo Comprehensive Cancer Centre, Calabar, said the centre were partnering with other organisations to sensitise people on the need to be screened.

Ukpo, who said that ignorance is dangerous, added that the centre has girls as young as 16 and 17 years diagnosed with breast cancer on its treatment list.

According to him, another burden in Nigeria is the lack of enough cancer centres, while the few available ones are overwhelmed.

He said “we also have the challenge of cost of treatment, this is why we have the Asi Ukpo Cancer Assist Foundation geared toward assisting indigent patients.”

Mrs Gedah Etafia, the Secretary of the Pink Africa Foundation, said October is the Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

She added that the foundation partnered with other organisations to embark on breast cancer screening, in addition to teaching women how to carry out breast examination themselves.

She said that although awareness is still low, the foundation is working toward ensuring early detection and how to access care.

Women who don’t breast feed susceptible to breast cancer — expert

The Chairperson, the Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN) Plateau chapter, Prof. Amaka Ocheke, says that women who don’t breastfeed are more susceptible to the risk of getting breast cancer.

Ocheke who is a consultant obstetrician and gynecologist with the University of Jos Teaching Hospital (JUTH), said this during a breast cancer awareness walk in Jos.

The walk was organised in collaboration with the Nigeria Women Journalists (NAWOJ) and the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) on Thursday.

Ocheke further said that other predisposing factors were early commencement of menstruation and early start of menopause, drinking, smoking, consumption of fatty food and family history (genetics).

She said that early detection “is key for survival, as when it is detected early it is treatable”.

Ocheke, however, noted that most women only came when the disease was in an advanced stage and difficult to manage.

She called on women and girls to inculcate the act of examining their breasts and armpits monthly for abnormalities such as lumps and change in the appearance of the breast skin and nipple as more ladies in their 20s and 30s were coming down with breast cancer.

She called on women from ages 40 and above to ensure they go for yearly mammogram as the act helps to detect tumors in the breast very early.

Similarly, the chairperson of NAWOJ in Plateau, Mrs Nene Dung, said that the walk was salient in creating and rising awareness about breast cancer.

Dung explained that most women “still live in denial as regards breast cancer and such should be discouraged as the denial has led to the death of many women”.

The walk began from the city centre to old JUTH.

How I sucked possessed woman’s breast for 91 days’ — Ex- notorious armed robber, Shina Rambo reveals

Shina Rambo, a former notorious armed robber, has recounted numerous dreaded measures he took in search of occultic powers in the past and how he is now a changed man working for God.

Rambo, who was once touted as Nigeria’s most-wanted suspect, spoke on Sunday when he appeared on ‘Opeyemi‘, a programme on Fresh 106.9 FM, in Ekiti.

During the radio show, he stated that he is the same dreaded armed robbery kingpin who terrified several parts of the country in the 1990s during which many people were killed.

Rambo narrated how he visited about 21 places in search of powers and was asked to suck the milk of “a possessed woman’s breast.”

“My father was a prominent person, and a soldier moving from one part of the country to the other. In my attempt to acquire black power then, I went to a total of 21 places, prominent among which were Minna, Niger State, and later Oro, in present day Kwara,” he said.

“I was in one of those places for 91 days in Idanre, Ondo State, where we were mandated to be sucking the milk of a possessed woman’s breast, as our only food and water, so occult powers can transmit to our body.

“At the end of the whole exercise, I possessed a total of 901 power images that can be used to cajole or disappear at a scene of crime and project the image of another person. So, if I was killed at a particular point, I had the powers to resurface in another place in another form.”

He, however, stated that he had turned a new leaf, adding that he is now a born again committed to evangelizing.

He added that his name after giving his life to Christ is Olawanifise Matthew, while quoting Bible passages intermittently on the show.

Rambo said contrary to several reports, especially by the police that he had been killed on many occasions, he is still alive.

Rambo said the killing of his wife and three children in one day is his worst regret in the past when he was into crime.

“I was to be arrested on the fateful day but those that came could not find me, so they killed them,” he said.

Must-read: Men who stare at women’s breasts live longer, healthier – Study

A study done by a German scientist, Karen Weatherby, and published in the New England Journal of Medicine, has revealed that staring at women’s breasts is healthy and also elongates the life span of men.

The study, which was carried out over a period of five years, involved 500 men, half of whom were instructed to stare at women’s breasts in a lustful manner for no less than 10 minutes every day.

The other half were instructed to abstain from doing such.

It concluded that men who stared at breasts, more often, showed lower rates of heart problems, slower resting heart rate and lower blood pressure, all of which enable a healthy living and long life.

The study said men should stare at breasts for 10 minutes a day to improve the wellness of their hearts and live longer.

“Just 10 minutes of staring at the charms of a well-endowed female every day is roughly equivalent to a 30-minute aerobics work-out,” the study revealed.

When the two groups of men were tested, men that stared at breasts daily had lower blood pressure, slower resting pulse rates, as well as fewer instances of coronary artery disease.

“Sexual excitement gets the heart pumping and improves blood circulation. Gazing at breasts makes men healthier and engaging in this activity a few minutes daily cuts the risk of stroke and heart attack by half.

“We believe that by doing so consistently, the average man can extend his life for four to five years,’’ he added.
