    Police reacts as ‘mentally challenged’’ man kills mother, set her body ablaze

    The spokesperson of the Delta state police command, Bright Edafe has queried parents who keep their mentally challenged children in their homes.

     According to Edafe via the microblogging platform, X formerly Twitter on Wednesday, such children in most of the cases, he had witnessed, end up killing their parents.

    So this young man of 25 years, allegedly killed his mum with an axe and set her body ablaze, then made away with her Sienna vehicle,” the police spokesman in Delta said on Wednesday on X.

    “Rumour has it that the suspect might be mentally deranged. Well, that’s for the court and medical doctors to determine,”Edafe added.

    The police officer noted that, however, “Why keep a child who has a mental issue at home instead of a psychiatric home?”

    He pointed out that “oftentimes, these mentally deranged children end up killing their parents and the people who have been pampering and taking care of them.”

    The spokesperson of the Delta state police command, SP Bright Edafe has said that it is not an offence for anyone to be in possession of s3x enhancement drugs.

    According to him, they are over-the-counter drugs so it is not illegal to be in possession of it.

    He stated that they have enlightened Police officers to know that it is not an offence.

    In a post shared on X, Edafe wrote;

    ‘’Viagra and some other s3x enhancement drugs are over the counter drugs and it’s not an offense to be in possession of it. We always enlighten our men but it’s important you know your right too.”

    BREAKING: 2 dead as Okada riders protest in Asaba

    A violent protest by Okada riders erupted in Asaba, Delta State capital, on Monday morning, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe has confirmed.

    According to the Delta State Police Public Relations, the Okada riders “had an issue last night with the State task force”, which Edafe disclosed resulted in the death of two persons.

    “They mobilised in their numbers this morning, destroying properties and beating people,” the State Police Public Relations said in a post via X (formerly Twitter).

    Edafe, meanwhile, confirmed that policemen have been “deployed to control the situation before it turns into something else”.

    Videos of the protest in Asaba circulating on social media indicate the Okada riders are protesting around the Okpanam Road axis, Midwifery, in the State capital.

    One of the videos reveals a scene where policemen were firing into the air, while another video shows a group of people blocking the road with motorcycles.

    Police kill 4 kidnappers, recover weapons in Delta

    The police command in Delta has killed four members of a gang which specialises in kidnapping.

    The spokesman for the command, DSP Bright Edafe, disclosed this on Wednesday in Warri.

    Edafe said that the hoodlums were killed on Monday by operatives of the command during a patrol on the Jesse/ Igueleba Road.

    He said that the armed gang members sighted the patrol vehicle from their hideout, deflated its front tyre and engaged the patrol team on a gun duel.

    “Due to reported incidents of kidnapping on Jesse axis of the state, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Wale Abass, directed deployment of operatives of the Special Anti-kidnapping and Cyber Crime Squad and DOPS Bufallo team, among others, to the area.

    “Consequently, on Sept. 18, during a joint patrol on Jesse – Igueleba Road, the team encountered a gang of armed bandits who laid ambush to attack and kidnap unsuspecting motorists.

    “The hoodlums fired at the front tyre of the lead pickup van; thus, demobilising the vehicle.

    “They were swiftly engaged in a gun duel by the police team. The armed bandits eventually succumbed to the superior firepower of the policemen,” he said.

    According to the spokesman, the police team pursued the bandits into a deep forest during which four of them were killed.

    The police spokesman said that one Ak-47 rifle with 20 rounds of live ammunition, two locally-made cut-to-size guns and cartridges were recovered from them.

    Police neutralise kidnap suspect in Warri

    The Police Command in Delta says it has neutralised a suspected kidnapper/armed robber in Warri.

    The command’s Spokesman, DSP Bright Edafe, made the disclosure on Sunday in Warri.

    Edafe said that the deceased was a member of a kidnapping/armed robbery gang terrorising residents of Warri and environs.

    He said that the suspect was neutralised on Friday by the police operatives attached to the “A Division”, Warri while attempting to escape.

    Edafe said that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Tanko Mahmud, acted on credible information about the suspect and led the operatives to the criminal gang’s hideout.

    “The operatives stormed the hideout of the criminal gang, located at the Stadium road, Warri, where they arrested a 58-year-old suspect and recovered one AK-47 rifle and three magazines.

    “Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member and armourer of the dreaded “Bobone” armed robbery gang terrorising Warri and environs.

    “The suspect gave the police additional information on the location of the other members of the gang and later led the police to their hideout on Chevron road,” he said.

    Edafe said that the hoodlums, upon sighting the police team, shot sporadically at them, adding that the deceased was maimed on his leg while attempting to escape from the scene.

    He said that the suspect died while receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital, with other members of the gang escaping with varying degrees of bullet wounds.

    The police spokesman said that manhunt for the fleeing members of the gang was ongoing.

    Police nab suspected financier of cult group in Sapele

    The Police Command in Delta says it has arrested a suspected financier of a cult group, “Aro Bagger”, in Sapele Town.

    Its Spokesman, DSP Bright Edafe, told newsmen on Wednesday in Warri that the suspect was nabbed by a combined team of the Police, Department of State Service (DSS) and Operation Delta Hawk.

    Edafe said that the suspect was apprehended by the team on Monday in an undisclosed hotel following an intelligence report.

    “Sequel to the cult clashes in Sapele, Oghara and some other parts of the state, the Commissioner of Police, Delta Command, Mr Ari Ali, deployed tactical teams to Sapele to restore sanity in the affected areas.

    “Consequently, on Jan. 23, 2023, acting on credible intelligence on an alleged sponsor of “Aro bagger” cult group and also an active member of the group, a combined team of the Command Special Anti-Cult Unit (SACU), operatives of the DSS and men of Operation Delta Hawk, stormed a hotel.

    “There, one Joseph Ologbo, a renowned suspected financer and active member of Aro Bagger cult group, was arrested,” he said.

    Edafe said that a search was conducted on the suspect’s tinted Toyota Tundra Van where one unlicenced pump action gun, two live cartridges, one expended cartridge and an “Aro Bagger” cult regalia were recovered.

    The spokesman also said that the suspect had made useful statement. He said that the suspect would be charged to court as soon as investigation in the matter was concluded.

    Suspected kidnappers neutralised in Delta, recover weapons

    The Police Command in Delta has neutralised two suspected kidnappers and recovered assorted weapons from them in the state.

    The spokesman of the command, DSP Bright Edafe, disclosed this to newsmen on Tuesday in Warri.

    Edafe said that the suspects were neutralised on Sunday by the Police patrol team attached to the “B division’, Warri.

    He said that the incident happened within the neighborhood of the Upper Erejuwa Street in Warri South Local Government Area of the state

    Edafe explained that the deceased were earlier apprehended on Saturday by the police patrol team while on a night surveillance patrol duty at the Okumagba Estate Roundabout in Warri South.

    “On Dec. 24, 2022, the police patrol team intercepted a tricycle with two male occupants and subjected them to a search.

    “During the search, three live cartridges concealed under the seat of the tricycle were recovered,” he said.

    Edafe said that the suspects were taken into custody, adding that upon interrogation the suspects confessed to be members of a five-man kidnapping syndicate operating within Warri and environs.

    “Acting on their confessions, on Dec. 25, the suspects led the Police operatives to their hideout at a house located at Upper Erejuwa Street, where one AK 49 rifle with Breach Number: 11876, one locally-made double barrel long gun and two machetes were recovered,” he said.

    The command’s spokesman explained that on their way back to the Police Station, the two suspects jumped out of the moving Police Hilux vehicle in an attempt to escape adding that the police went after them.

    “In a bid to demobilise them, they were maimed by the operatives, and rearrested. The suspects gave up the ghost while they were being taken to the hospital,” he said.

    Edafe said that a manhunt for the other fleeing members of the gang is ongoing.

    Tension as gunmen kill herdsboy in Delta

    Yet-to-be-identified gunmen are currently on the run after killing a herdsboy and burying his
    corpse in a shallow grave at Oshimili North local government area of Delta State.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that the incident occurred precisely in Akwukwu-Igbo community, which is the headquarters of Oshimili North.

    Available reports indicate that the fleeing gunmen also opened fire on the cattle and killed three while some cattle fled in different directions in the forest.

    It was gathered that the unprovoked killing has caused tension in Akwukwu-Igbo community.

    Obi David Azuka, the traditional ruler of Akwukwu-Igbo has called on the law enforcement agencies to track down the gunmen, saying, “I want peace in my domain.”

    According to Obi Azuka, the gunmen did not give any reason for their action, other than warning the herdsmen to vacate the area.

    A source said a vigilante group in the area, Anioma Security Watch, in Akwukwu-Igbo,  went in search of the Fulani boy, who was between 15-16 years as soon as they got wind of what happened.

    “The vigilante combed the area before they sighted the shallow grave they buried the boy after the unpremeditated murder,” he said.

    The search team took the corpse of the young boy to the Akwukwu-Igbo Police Station, where the family made a report, and the remains were released to the family for burial, yesterday, according to Islamic rites.

    Meanwhile, the Delta State Police Command has confirmed the development. Spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe disclosed that the assailants were on the run.

    “The assailants are on the run, we are on their trail. It is confirmed that the corpse of a herder was unearthed. The family has taken the corpse for Islamic burial,” DSP Edafe said.

    The Police Command in Delta has neutralised two suspected armed robbers in two separate operations in the Warri axis of the state.

    The spokesperson of the command, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed this to newsmen on Saturday in Warri.

    Edafe said that one of the suspects was neutralised on Friday by the Police operatives attached to ‘B’ Warri.

    He explained that the police were on a surveillance patrol at the Okere Market Junction when they received a distress call that a four-man robbery gang was operating within the Miramble Guest House.

    “The team raced to the scene and the hoodlums on sighting the Police engaged them in a gun duel.

    “In the ensuing gun battle, one of the hoodlums was hit by the police bullet while others escaped. The injured suspect was taken to the hospital where he died while receiving treatment,” he said.

    Edafe said that one locally-made double barrel, cut-to-size gun, and a live cartridge were recovered from the suspects, adding that the command was on the trail of the fleeing members of the gang.

    Confirming the second incident which occurred on Wednesday, Edafe said that the suspect was killed when Policemen attached to ‘A’ Division, Warri, Rapid Response Squad were on a routine stop and search duty on the Urhobo Road.

    He explained that the team sighted two young boys walking towards them, adding that the policemen, who sensed danger, were immediately on the alert.

    “Unsurprisingly, one of the suspects brought out a gun from his handbag and fired at the Policemen but missed his target.

    “The team returned fire, forcing the suspects to a retreat; unfortunately, one of the suspects was hit while the other escaped. The injured suspect died before he could get to the hospital,” he said

    Edafe said one locally-made gun, one expended cartridge and one live cartridge were recovered, adding the police were on the trail of the fleeing suspect.

    17-year-old rescued from kidnappers in Delta State

    The Police Command in Delta says it has apprehended two suspected kidnappers and rescued a 17-year-old boy from their captivity in the state.

    The spokesperson of the command, DSP Bright Edafe, disclosed this to newsmen on Sunday in Warri.

    Edafe said the duo were nabbed on Wednesday by Policemen attached to the Eagle-Net Patrol Team.

    He said that the police team was on visibility and confidence building patrol on the Effurun Roundabout in Uvwie Local Government Area when they recorded the feat.

    The police spokesman explained that the team while on duty, saw a mob beating the suspects, adding that upon inquiry, it was revealed that they were suspected kidnappers.

    “The Police rushed to the scene and rescued the boys from the  mob. On the spot inquiry, it was discovered that they were suspected kidnappers.

    “A woman also accused the boys of kidnapping her 17-year old son earlier that day. The two suspects were Oti Shevire, 32, and Amos whose surname is unknown,” he said.

    Edafe said that upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime, adding that they led  Policemen to their hideout where the victim was rescued unhurt.

    He said that the victim was currently receiving treatment while the suspects were in police custody and investigation was ongoing.
