Lewis Dunk insists Brighton deserved their 2-2 draw against Liverpool.

The Seagulls captain struck late for Brighton’s equaliser and to secure a point at Falmer stadium.

He later said: “I think we were the better side throughout and then we had a funny five minutes. We have got to be better than that. We have shown great character to come back and get the draw.”

“Sloppiness from us [let Liverpool take the lead]. I gave the ball away cheaply and they capitalised on that. We have to keep improving, keep learning and get better. After the defeat we have come back and got the draw today. It’s just that final bit that the moment. We are a little bit off.

“I think I was covering and there were others covering. We had a good 40 minutes and a mad five minutes that killed us at the end of the half. I think we did well in the second half.”

Fellow goalscorer Simon Adingra added: “It is a very good point for us today. After last match, it is a very good point.

“I think it is for the team you have to be ready all the time, when I am given my chance.

“It was a good point for us after the loss last week. The point today, in front of our fans, is good.”

Captain Lewis Dunk scored a dramatic equaliser for Brighton to deny Jurgen Klopp three points on his eighth anniversary as Liverpool boss.

In an absorbing encounter, Simon Adingra fired past Alisson to give Brighton the lead after catching out Alexis Mac Allister, who was making his first return to his former club.

Klopp’s side levelled when Dunk’s misplaced pass ended with Darwin Nunez setting up Salah to sweep home, before Liverpool’s Egyptian forward struck from the penalty spot in first half stoppage time.

It was awarded after Pascal Gross dragged Dominik Szoboszlai down by his collar.

Liverpool missed a golden chance to increase their lead after substitute Ryan Gravenberch, on for Harvey Elliott at the start of the second half, hit the bar from close range when it seemed easier to score.

It proved a costly miss as Dunk made it 2-2 in the 78th minute with a first-time finish from Solly March’s free-kick.

Joao Pedro then missed a late chance to win it for the hosts in the closing stages, firing over when well-placed inside the box.

Nerves inside Anfield weren’t exactly eased as an out-of-sorts Liverpool continued to make mistakes in its own half, but Luis Díaz’s acrobatic  strike helped to settle things down just before the half-hour mark as the Reds finally began to find their way into the game.

And they found themselves ahead shortly after, with Mohamed Salah turning home on the rebound from the penalty spot after Dominik Szoboszlai was tripped.

Alexis Mac Allister’s red card threatened to derail things in the second half, but Liverpool came up with the perfect response, almost immediately making it 3-1 through Diogo Jota to secure a first win of the new season.

Eventually Wolves got a consolation goal when Hwang’s looping beat Brighton’s  goalie.

At Craven Cottage, Yoane Wissa’s opener and Bryan Mbeumo’s double gave Brentford a comfortable 3-0  win over west London rivals Fulham, who were reduced to 10 men when captain  Tim Ream got the marching order after infringing on a Brentford attacker in the 64th minute of the encounter.

Caicedo choosing Chelsea is embarrassing – Alan Shearer

Alan Shearer says the prospect of Chelsea winning the transfer battle for Moises Caicedo is “embarrassing” for Liverpool.

The Reds had an offer for Caicedo accepted by Brighton, but the midfielder made it clear he wants to join Chelsea, which are now closing on signing the Ecuadorian.

Ahead of Liverpool’s visit to Chelsea today, Shearer said on The Rest Is Football podcast: “It’s pretty embarrassing for Liverpool, if that is the case.

“They’ve agreed a deal for £111m and then, all of a sudden, the player has said ‘No thanks, I don’t fancy coming to you, I’m going to London instead’.

“That is not a good look for Liverpool. You have to do your homework and your due diligence and make sure players want to join before agreeing deals for them.”

EPL: Why we thrashed Arsenal 3-0 at the Emirate – Brighton coach

Brighton coach Roberto De Zerbi has Stated reasons why his club side defeated Arsenal by 3-0  on Sunday evening at the Emirate stadium.

De Zerbi was elated  as goals from Julio Enciso, Deniz Undav and Pervis Estupinan gave Brighton all three points against Arsenal.

However, De Zerbi believed Brighton defeated Mikel Arteta’s side in front of their home fans because his team showed ‘character and passion’ against the Gunners after losing to Everton last Monday.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, De Zerbi said: “I’m really pleased with the performance, but the season is not finished for us.

“The 58 points on the table we have are not enough; we are fighting for a big, big target, so we have to win more games.”

“It had been a very tough week after Monday’s result, but today we showed character and passion; we showed we are serious people.

“I have to repeat, I am lucky to be the coach of Brighton. I have a lot of great players.”

The result leaves Brighton in sixth place on the Premier League table with 58 points from 34 games.

  • Brighton shock Man Utd with late penalty kick

Brighton shock Man Utd with late penalty kick

Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Alexis MacAllister scored from the penalty kick spot deep into stoppage time to snatch a 1-0 win for his side over Manchester United on Thursday.

The defeat leaves Erik ten Hag’s side in fourth place on 63 points, four ahead of fifth-placed Liverpool but with a game in hand over their Merseyside rivals.

Brighton meanwhile move up to sixth on 55 points.

The victory was some measure of revenge for Brighton, who lost to Manchester United on penalty kicks in their 2022/2023 English FA Cup semi-final meeting 11 days ago.

The home side dominated possession and could have gone ahead as early as the fourth minute.

This was after Japanese winger Kaoru Mitoma snapped up a loose pass from Victor Lindelof, but he fired his shot straight into the face of David De Gea.

Mitoma was a threat throughout, creating several chances for himself.

He teed up Danny Welbeck to fire high and wide from the edge of the penalty box early in the second half as Manchester United struggled to pass the ball out of defence.

After a first half booking, Manchester United midfielder Casemiro was lucky not to pick up another booking after hacking down MacAllister on the edge of the box in the second half.

Tempers flared in the 68th minute as Manchester United winger Antony, angry at not being awarded a free-kick, was penalised for a tackle on MacAllister.

He got into a confrontation with Lewis Dunk which earned both players a yellow card.

Brighton continued to press forward looking for a winner, with substitute Solly March and MacAllister both forcing superb saves from De Gea as the clock ticked towards 90 minutes.

Manchester United looked set to secure a draw, but there was late drama when defender Luke Shaw was found to have handled the ball in the penalty box.

This was after a VAR review, and MacAllister blasted home the penalty kick nine minutes into stoppage time to secure the win.

“Really happy and delighted for the performance and result,” Brighton coach Roberto de Zerbi told reporters.

“There is a God of football —- we deserved to win the (FA Cup) semi-final but lost on penalty kicks, but today we won with a penalty kick.”

Shaw took responsilibity for his mistake, calling it a “silly error that cost us a point”.

But he said his side were still on course to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

“Teams around us are picking up points, (but) we still have a game in hand and it is in our hands,” he told reporters.

  • Ten Hag pleased with Manchester United’s response in FA Cup semi-final win

Ten Hag pleased with Manchester United’s response in FA Cup semi-final win

Manchester United bounced back from a difficult week with a 7-6 shootout win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday that booked an FA Cup final spot to the relief of manager Erik ten Hag.

Three days after a humiliating Europa League exit against Sevilla, United’s victory at Wembley on penalties after a 0-0 stalemate was music to the ears of their Dutch manager.

“On Thursday I saw a team I didn’t recognise but today we went back to usual.

“I could see determination and resilience. We fought for every yard and competed in every battle. We had good chances,” he said.

The normally measured Ten Hag was livid with his team’s lack of effort on Thursday and admitted yelling at the players after their 3-0 rout for a 5-2 aggregate defeat in the quarter-finals.

“I can’t accept that my team is not giving its best,” said the Dutchman.

But there was nothing but positive words on Sunday after Victor Lindelof, United’s seventh player to step up to the spot, slotted home the winning penalty after Brighton’s Solly March missed by launching the ball over the bar.

It was the first-ever FA Cup semi-final shootout to go to sudden death.

“He is quite cool when it comes to penalties and he’s quite cool in general,” Ten Hag said of Lindelof.

United’s manager was also pleased with his goalkeeper David de Gea, who was kept busy by several Brighton efforts.

“He made some brilliant saves. It hurt when he made mistakes on Thursday.

“Often when you make mistakes as a keeper you get punished. We let him down, we didn’t fight back for him. We bounced back today though,” Ten Hag said.

Sunday’s win set up the first all-Manchester FA Cup final, after City cruised past Sheffield United 3-0 on Saturday, and Ten Hag’s second showpiece match in his first season at the helm.

This was after he guided Manchester United to a League Cup triumph in February.

“Whether Manchester United win the cup or not it’s going to be a fantastic season for them. They’ve achieved all their goals this season. Erik Ten Hag deserves credit,” said BBC pundit Alan Shearer.

Brighton had hoped to continue their dream run to what would have been their second FA Cup final.

But for the wayward penalty from March, who hung his head crestfallen, hands on hips, after the miss while Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi consoled him.

“In penalties anything can happen. You can make mistakes. March is one of the best players in our team and I’m proud of him and the rest of the players, especially today.

“(March) is sad but, I repeat, we have to close this day and tomorrow we have to think about another game. We need the possibility to forget. We want to achieve in Europe,” De Zerbi said.

Brighton are eighth in the Premier League and battling to secure a European qualifying spot for next season.
