What Bruno Fernandes said after Man United fired Erik ten Hag

Portuguese attacking midfielder, Bruno Fernandes, who plays and captains Manchester United, has reacted after his club fired their coach, Erik ten Hag on Monday.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Manchester United fired Erik ten Hag, following a streak of record-breaking poor performances. Their recent 2-1 defeat to West Ham United seems to have been the final straw, leading to Ten Hag’s dismissal.

“Thanks for everything boss! I appreciate the trust and the moments we share together, I wish you all the best in the future. Even knowing the last period hasn’t been great from all of us I hope you fans can keep with you the good things the manager has done for our club,” Fernandes stated via Instagram.

Erik ten Hag’s dismissal by Man United comes after a disappointing campaign, with the team currently sitting in the bottom half of the Premier League table. Man U are currently sitting on 14th position in the Premier League table.

According to a club statement, Ruud van Nistelrooy will step in as the interim head coach, working alongside the existing coaching staff, as the search for a permanent head coach is underway.

The statement reads: “Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager. Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.

“We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future. Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, whilst a permanent head coach is recruited”.

I let down my teammates – Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes says he “let down” his teammates after defeat at home to Tottenham.

United collapsed 3-0 against Spurs with Fernandes sent off before halftime.

He said, “I just wanted to come and talk  and be myself because my team-mates deserve that for what they have done in the game playing with one man less. Particularly as I was the man sent off, the one that let them down.

“The team showed a lot of character, a lot of resilience, a lot of fight. They tried. It wasn’t easy.

“Never a red card, that is my view. I agree that it is a foul but it is never a foul. The referee tried to tell me that as he saw it was a clear contact with the studs, no. I didn’t touch him with the studs or even the foot, it was my ankle. It is a clear foul.

“If he wants to give me a yellow because they are going to go on a counter then I agree. But more than that, no. It is not the case.”

On the game being tough before the red card, he added: “Yes I think we struggled a bit. We tried to force it a little bit, to rush it and go too quick. When they have the high line we made mistakes on the ball and then we got punished and it didn’t go the way we wanted from there.

“Then the red card makes it worse. I have to appreciate all the effort my team-mates have done to try and return to the game but it wasn’t possible. They showed great effort and character and I was happy for that.”

In the 54th minute of the match, Fernandes lofted in a delightful cross. At first, it seemed as if Ronaldo had headed the ball in.

But the goal was officially awarded to his ex-Manchester United teammate.

“It doesn’t matter who scores. Whether it’s me or Cristiano Ronaldo.

“The important thing is to get out of the group. We are in the last 16,” Fernandes told reporters afterwards.

Ronaldo, Fernandes in tense reunion at Portugal dressing room

A clip has surfaced online of Ronaldo’s teammate at club level Bruno Fernamdes’ reaction when they both met in Portugal’s team camp.

Ronaldo and Fernandez had a very cold reunion upon meeting at the team’s camp in Lisbon on Monday evening.

Both players share the dressing room for both club and country and the Portuguese are currently preparing for their warm-up match with Nigeria before their opening Group H game against Ghana in the 2022 World Cup.

Ronaldo’s interview with ace journalist, Piers Morgan generated a lot of reactions and it reportedly went down like a lead balloon with his teammates.

Fernandes was reunited with Ronaldo for the first time in Portugal camp with the 37-year-old having already joined his national team and took part in a training session on Monday.

Fernandez suddenly bumped into Ronaldo and was going to ignore him but decided to shake hands with him on second thought abeit belated and mumbled some words before leaving the scene.

Fernandes’ comment left Ronaldo looking stony-faced, in the viral video before the pair exchanged words and Fernandes walked away to greet other team-mates – doing so in a far more cheery manner.

The Portuguese national team will face the Super Eagles of Nigeria on the 17th of this month before traveling to Qatar for the Mundial a day after.

EPL: Man United thrashes Tottenham, as Ronaldo storms off Pitch

Manchester United on Wednesday evening defeated third-placed Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 with goals from Fred and Bruno Fernandes, which placed them in fifth place in the Premier League table.

This was as Portuguese superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo, angrily walked away from the pitch and entered the dressing room before the end of the game after Man Utd manager. Erik ten Hag, conducted the mandatory substitutions without bringing him on.

Man Utd manager made just one change from the team that drew with Newcastle at the weekend, with Cristiano Ronaldo replaced by the fit-again England international, Marcus Rashford.

Fernandes was at the heart of everything good that came out of United’s build-up play and it really looked like he finally found himself in his new role.

Under Ten Hag, the Portuguese midfielder has played in a somewhat more reserved role and is not as involved in the penalty area.

His beautiful right-footed curler gave United the platform to comfortably stroll around for the final 20 minutes and after the game, it has now been revealed that Fernandes set a new record in the Premier League this season.

According to the statistical website WhoScored, Fernandes strung together a whopping nine key passes against Tottenham, a new record in a Premier League match this season. In addition to his goal, he had another strike ruled out after being marginally offside.

Collectively, it was a masterful team performance but Fernandes’ personal efforts helped set the tone and Ten Hag will now be hoping for another three points on Saturday.

Erik ten Hag, after the game, described Spurs as a “magnificent team” in a show of respect for the good job the latter’s manager has done.

In his words: “Against a magnificent Tottenham we played very well. Games don’t always go like this- they are not always easy. Today was a brilliant performance and we could have scored three or four goals. I am happy. From a good defense we are very proactive in pressing. That is a base to win games.”

  • Liverpool v Man Utd: Bruno Fernandes available after car crash

Liverpool v Man Utd: Bruno Fernandes available after car crash

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick remains without a number of key players but Bruno Fernandes is available following a car crash on the eve of Manchester United’s trip to rivals Liverpool.

All eyes will be on Anfield as the old foes meet on Tuesday.

That is when Jürgen Klopp’s men will attempt to move top of the Premier League —- if only for the night —- and the Red Devils look to bolster their top-four hopes.

Manchester United’s UEFA Champions League qualification chances received a huge shot in the arm on Saturday.

That was when their hard-fought 3-2 win against Norwich came as Tottenham and Arsenal fell to shock losses.

“It’s up to us,” the interim manager said. “We definitely will travel there tomorrow (Tuesday) and try to get the three points. This is what it’s all about.

“After last weekend’s results, we are still in the race for number four. But, in order to stay in that race, we have to win almost every game. To start with, tomorrow (Tuesday at Anfield).

“Although we might be the underdogs for most people, we still know that if we raise our level, if we play a top performance ourselves, we have a chance to get three points there and this will be our ambition and our goal for tomorrow (Tuesday).”

Manchester United suffered a humiliating 5-0 home loss in October’s reverse fixture and are available with some bookmakers at 7/1 to win Tuesday’s game.

Their slim chances of beating Klopp’s in-form side are dented by the continued absence of Edinson Cavani, Luke Shaw, Raphael Varane, Fred and Scott McTominay.

Manchester United playmaker Fernandes will, though, be available to face Liverpool after being involved in a car crash on Monday.

No parties involved are understood to have sustained serious injuries and the 27-year-old trained with the squad later that day.

“Yes, he was training with the team,” he said. “Obviously the accident happened on the way to Carrington but as far as I know nobody was injured.

“He trained with the team and he was OK. That’s why I think he will also be OK for tomorrow (Tuesday).”

  • Manchester United: Bruno Fernandes craves Mata’s jersey number 8

Manchester United: Bruno Fernandes craves Mata’s jersey number 8

Portugal and Manchester United playmaker, Bruno Fernandes, has revealed he craves the number 8 shirt at the club.

Although, the number 8 shirt is currently being worn by Juan Mata, Fernandes has made it clear he doesn’t have plans to hijack it from him.

Mata is the current holder of the shirt, while Fernandes has been forced to don the number 18 since he arrived in January 2020.

This revelation was let out by the Portugal international when asked by a fan on Twitter during a question and answer session as to whether he would change his squad number to eight next season.

To which the playmaker responded: “I hope to get it one day…but for now I hope to have my brother @juanmata8 close to me.”

There is every chance Fernandes will get the number eight shirt next season, as Mata’s current contract at Old Trafford ends this summer and there has been very little talk of a renewal.

Meanwhile, Fernadez has just put pen to paper in a renewed 4-year deal for Manchester united.

  • How Ronaldo mental strength inspires me – Fernandes

How Ronaldo mental strength inspires me – Fernandes

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has spoken of how Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo is a career inspiration.

The pair will line up together at this summer’s Euros, as Portugal defend their crown, with Ronaldo – who starred at United from 2003 to 2009 – captaining the Seleccao once again.

Fernandes told the club website: “When Cristiano began to take his first steps in the national team, it was in the Euros in our home country [Euro 2004], so I was nine years old.

“That year stays with everyone because we lost the final in Portugal, we saw him crying after the final, he was a young boy who was starting to shine and from there I started to watch him.

“It wasn’t because he plays in my position because that wasn’t the case, but it was the way he worked every day, the mentality he had, the capacity he had to give 100 per cent in every game at a high level, for me it was like a motivation, like you always have to do better.

“He was scoring goals every game, but game after game he was still trying to improve, get better.”

And he added it’s Ronaldo’s resilience that he has shown throughout his career that Fernandes applies to his own game.

He said: “My mentality comes a little bit from understanding what sort of player you want to be. Do you want to be that player who has a good season, and maybe goes up and down, up and down, or do you want to be the player who always wants to be at the top?

“Okay, you will have bad games for sure, everyone has – Cristiano has had bad games, 100 per cent – but the point is, coming back from a bad game.

“Coming back with the mentality that is, ‘okay I didn’t play well in that last game and I really need to do well in this one’.

“The mentality to do better day after day is really important for me. I’m improving a lot because of this, and that was my biggest motivation.”
