Obasanjo hated my principal Buhari over an unmet request -Shehu Garba

Garba Shehu, the spokesman for the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has claimed that erstwhile President Olusegun Obasanjo hated his former boss.

He stated this while reacting to Obasanjo’s posthumous appraisal of his principal.

Obasanjo had described the tenure as the worst civil administration in Nigeria.

The former aide said he had already explained why Obasanjo never liked the late head of state in his recent book, ‘According to the President: Lessons from a Presidential Spokesman’s Experience’,

He, however, said that the late former President held Obasanjo in high esteem, adding that they fell out over an unmet demand.

In the book, Shehu alleged that Obasanjo made some demands of Buhari while the latter was president.

He explained, ‘‘There are many around Buhari who hold that the spectacular falling out between him (Buhari) and his superior in the military whom he cherished and much respected, President Olusegun Obasanjo, was on account of the demand, reportedly put to him by Obasanjo, that the contract for the Mambilla Power Project be given to a contractor he preferred.

On this, Buhari politely told the former president to allow him to handle it his own way, following the due process that was in place.”

If Buhari was a failure, Tinubu is disastrous – Ex-Police Affairs Minister

A Former Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Adamu Maina Waziri, has described the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a total disaster that the country is sliding dangerously into deeper crises under the current government.

Waziri expressed grave concerns over the state of governance in Nigeria in an interview with Trust Television.

“If the Buhari government was a failure, the Tinubu government in the last two years is a disastrous catastrophe,” he said adding that “It has failed in all ramifications, and the country has regressed.”

He cited growing insecurity, worsening economic hardship, and increased corruption as hallmarks of the current administration’s failure.

“The economy is collapsing, ethnocentrism is at an all-time high, and insecurity continues to ravage many states,” he added.

Waziri argued that under Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria has not only lost its sense of national direction but has also become more fragile and polarized.

He noted that those endorsing the government often come from areas directly affected by banditry and violence, making their support puzzling and disingenuous.

“I am surprised that people whose local governments are under the control of bandits can appear on national television to endorse this government,” he said.

He called for a sober assessment of the administration’s performance, urging Nigerians to look beyond media appearances and staged endorsements.

According to him, a government that has presided over national decline in every sector cannot credibly seek reelection.

  • Details about the prestigious London clinic Buhari passed on

Following the de@th of Nigeria’s former President Muhammadu Buhari, The London Clinic has come under public scrutiny, raising questions about its status as one of the United Kingdom’s most prestigious private hospitals.

Recall that Buhari passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at the Harley Street-based hospital after reportedly suffering a relapse just hours before his anticipated discharge.

According to Buhari’s nephew, Mamman Daura, the former President was in high spirits on the eve of his death and was being prepared for discharge when his health suddenly deteriorated.

“I left him about 9 pm on Saturday in high spirits and promised to see him on Sunday afternoon. He was looking forward to his doctor’s visit on Sunday morning. But around midday, he started having breathing challenges and doctors rushed to his side to try and manage it. But unfortunately, around 4.30 pm, he gave up the ghost,” Daura told ThisDay.

discretion, luxury, and top-tier medical attention are guaranteed.

“It is the best and largest private clinic in the United Kingdom. It deals with surgery, robotic surgery, ENT surgery, plastic surgery, and the best in specialised services,” she said.

She added that the hospital is equipped with advanced da Vinci Xi, ExcelsiusGPS, and NAVIO robotic surgical technology, a 3 T Siemens MRI, multiple CT scanners, a PET-CT, ultrasound, digital mammography, and other cutting-edge diagnostic systems.

In terms of staffing and expertise, the doctor said, “The clinic boasts an impressive roster of professionals with renowned specialist consultants, many of whom are Fellows of the Royal College of Surgeons and hold additional high-level certifications.”

However, according to a study by the National Institutes of Health, seen by Saturday Punch, the cost of a bed space at the general ward is around £586.59 per bed day.

“These costs may not include other potential fees or charges associated with your specific treatment plan,” the report noted.

According to the hospital’s website, its ICU boasts a Standard Mortality Rate of 0.7, one of the best in the UK, and has consistently maintained low de@th rates.

The hospital wrote, “Our Standard Mortality Rate averages around 0.7, which the Critical Care Peer Review states ‘would put the unit in the top 10% of the country’ and has consistently maintained low de@th rates, all of which are reviewed at Mortality and Morbidity Meetings within the clinic.

“Patient Experience feedback continues to demonstrate 95-100% satisfaction with their treatment across the MDT with numerous comments and compliments mentioning excellence in staff attitude, caring, compassionate, along with recognition of speciality surgical support and rehabilitation.

  • Buhari: Can we speak evil of the living legend? – By Ikeddy Isiguzo

Buhari: Can we speak evil of the living legend? – By Ikeddy Isiguzo

MUHAMMADU Buhari, former President of Nigeria, has no spartan expectations when he is praised. Forget his dithers. Buhari glows in the glories of the gamut of his failures. He still only cares for himself.

When he turned up for the public presentation of Walking with Buhari, Femi Adesina’s reflections on being his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Buhari was stiff, smug, distant, and bore the same askance that saw Nigeria dither for eight years under him.

“Without documentation, revisionism wins. Human beings often have short memories, and unless events are recorded in cold print, some people would come and attempt to either distort or even obliterate recent history,” Buhari said in praise of his achievements which another five-volume publication also recorded.

The rule used to be not to speak evil of the dead. For Buhari, every rule is broken, standards dumped, history distorted to make something of him. Buhari’s failures are never stated. Is it plausible that Buhari is unaware that his failures strip words of meaning? How does one assess a President whose favourite response to critical national issues was, “I am not aware”? At least he is aware of history, that is a good start, though belated.

Pa Edwin Clark, Convener of Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, reacting to the Buhari books was nearer the mark about non-existent Buhari amplitudes. “To most of us as Nigerians, Muhammadu Buhari failed abysmally as President. His administration was full of insecurity, economic collapse, injustice, religious bigotry and lack of direction. The eight years of his administration plunged Nigeria and Nigerians, five decades backwards. Even his successor, the current President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noted as much in his speech at the time of the occasion where Buhari was eulogising himself,” Pa Clark’s statement read.

Adeshina said his book was meant to correct wrong narratives about Buhari. He is right. Wrong or right could be directed by our biases.
How many millions of jobs did Buhari create in eight years? Where are the economic plans to sustain annual yearly growth of 10 percent?
The unending shame about our torpid accommodation of listless leadership is that a Buhari can make a public appearance to discuss history and his entitlement to be vindicated for his dedication to momentary wakefulness and sloppy speeches that confirm unimagined concerns over Buhari.
    – Buhari: Can we speak evil of the living legend?, Businessday, 21 January 2024

IN 2018 when 74 Benue people were killed in Guma, and other parts of Benue, the President’s reaction was, “I appeal to Governor Ortom to restrain his people. I ask you in the name of God to accommodate your country men. You can also be assured that I am just as worried, and concerned with the situation,” the President said.

One would think that the Fulani herdsmen were the victims.

The killings continued, in April, eliciting this standard, trite retort to new killings, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those murdered. The entire nation stands united in the fight against the forces of terror and evil. I urge aggrieved parties to embrace efforts to end this extreme violence”.

-Buhari counts lives indifferently, Benue is only a sample, Businessday, 23 April 2023

SOMETHING outstanding about President Muhammadu Buhari is his consistency. Nobody can fault it.

He has a knack for making choices that stun his fellow Nigerians. The more objectionable his decisions, the better Buhari thinks that they fit Nigerians.

Does anything we say affect him? Are we sure he listens to us or anyone? His frequent absences at critical moments of our national lives have become legendary.

Those who ask the President to address Nigerians have forgotten that every Buhari broadcast leaves the country more forlorn.

“I belong to everybody and I belong to nobody,” Buhari told us during his inauguration on 29 May 2015. He was upfront with his determination to act differently, whatever that meant.

Buhari’s key appointments are skewed, especially as they affect the security agencies. The appointments shock believers in the Federal Character Commission, a creation of the Constitution, which they constantly ignore. The explanation is that the appointments were about professionalism, not politics.

When Lt-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, Chief of Army Staff died in a plane last week, many thought Buhari had the chance to prove critics of his appointments wrong. He dashed their wishes again.

Chief of Army Staff – In praise of PMB’s consistency, Businessday, 29 May 2021

NIGERIA is an embarrassment to those who hold the country dearly. Mistakes have been made. The worst of the mistakes was thinking – even for a fleeting moment – that Buhari was the solution to whatever disagreement there was among power mongers in 2015. He was not. He has consistently proven he is not about to be.

Choices Buhari has made since 2015 hammer at his determination to create the divisiveness Obasanjo complains about.
    – Why Obasanjo’s Failed Third Term Haunts Him, Hurts Failing Nigeria, Businessday, 15 September 2020

THE matter of the day was the padding of the 2023 budget, the last budget of the administration since 2015. It was no longer discussed in hushed tunes. Three Ministers – Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, Defence, and Health – had publicly accused the Minister of Finance Mrs. Zainab Ahmed of inflating their budgets. Can anywhere be more public than the National Assembly where the allegations were made?

    – Like Buhari, Tinubu starts strong with budget padding, Businessday, 17 March 2024PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari must be the happiest man on earth with the news that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu had been re-arrested almost four years after he fled Nigeria. Those who executed this perfect operation deserve applause for re-affirming that Nigeria has the capacities to deal with her security issues.

In addition to the 11 charges against him, Minister of Information Alhaji Lai recited some alleged behaviours of Kanu as if they were offences in Nigeria.

He was living “a five-star life across several countries. He was travelling on chartered private jets, living in luxury apartments and turning out in designing clothes and shoes.

“Of course, as we all saw, he was wearing an attire made by Fendi, a luxury Italian fashion brand, when he was arrested,’’ Mohammed said, sounding triumphant at the biggest achievement of Buhari’s administration in six years.

If his security operatives can cross seas and valleys to get Kanu, wherever he was arrested, there is no reason for them not acting similarly in arresting insecurity in Nigeria.

While Kanu is under-going trial Sheikh Mohammed Gumi is long overdue to be appointed National Security Adviser (North). He knows the bandits, kidnappers, terrorists. He speaks for them. He negotiates for them.

Gumi has repeatedly stated that without governments meeting the bandits’ gaseous terms there will be no peace. The indecision on Gumi has firmed as decision.

-Kanu: Buhari’s most notable achievement in six years, Businessday, 3 July 2021

    Finally…
I said everything I wanted to say about Buhari while he was alive. Nobody can accuse me of speaking ill of the dead, unless Buhari was not alive when he made the various decisions that threw Nigeria into a spin from which a recovery will be long.

Suddenly, a new Buhari is being invented for us – the man of integrity, incorruptible, a nationalist, a patriot – by those who aim at inheriting his supporters pegged at 12m voters.

Presidency slams ADC over criticism of Buhari’s state burial

The Presidency has rebuked the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for its criticism of the state burial accorded former President Muhammadu Buhari.

‎In a strongly worded statement issued in Abuja, Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, described ADC’s criticism as “opportunistic, dishonest and politically desperate.”

‎“The latest outburst from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) regarding former President Buhari’s state burial is nothing but an opportunistic exercise in manufactured outrage.

‎”It’s a laughable tantrum by a poorly amalgamated political contraption desperately clutching at straws for relevance it will never attain.

‎”This is not the first time the ADC, in its pitiful, stuttering attempts at reinvention, has embarrassed itself with hollow, attention-seeking criticisms and press releases,” Dare said.

‎The ADC had accused the Tinubu administration of politicising Buhari’s death, a claim the presidency strongly rejected.

‎It argued that the ADC, not the government, was the one seeking political mileage from Buhari’s passing.

‎”Let it be said clearly: the ADC is the one exploiting Buhari’s death for political attention, not this government.

”They have chosen to dance on his grave for relevance.

‎”From Atiku and El-Rufai’s choreographed arrival in Daura, greeted with chants seeking to make political capital from the solemnity of the moment, to this disgraceful press statement, the ADC has shown itself to be utterly shameless.

‎”For clarity, President Tinubu’s administration is neither desperate nor searching for cheap popularity,” Dare said.

He emphasised that Buhari’s burial was dignified, honourable, and drew both national and global attention.

‎“World leaders showed up, millions tuned in, and even ADC promoters pranced around Daura like eager real estate agents,” Dare added.

‎He also highlighted key achievements under President Tinubu, including economic recovery and infrastructure development.

‎Major milestones listed included stabilised currency, increased oil output, and revitalised state finances through improved FAAC allocations.

‎The rollout of the student loan scheme was also cited as a sign of reform-focused governance.

He added: ‎”These are not press statements. These are results. Tangible, measurable, and ongoing.

” That is leadership. What does the ADC offer Nigerians beyond sanctimonious whining?”

‎He questioned the ADC’s relevance, describing it as a party riddled with internal crises and legal confusion.

‎Dare reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, refusing to dignify what he called “political scavengers.”

‎He urged Nigerians to ignore what he called the noise from a party “gasping for attention.”

  • Ex-Chief of staff, Gambari reveals how memos were bypassed to Buhari by cabals

Ex-Chief of staff, Gambari reveals how memos were bypassed to Buhari by cabals

Professor Ibrahim Gambari, a former chief of staff to the late ex-President Muhammadu Buhari has revealed how members of the president’s inner circle often bypassed him to secretly send memos to the head of state.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Inside Sources on Friday, Gambari said although Buhari had instructed that all memos be routed through him, some appointees exploited the president’s “weak point” to get their messages across informally.

“They knew his weak moment, they knew when to smuggle memos because they knew him as they interacted with him informally,” Gambari said.

Gambari served as Buhari’s chief of staff from May 2020 to May 2023 after the death of his predecessor, Abba Kyari.

“When I came as chief of staff to the president, he made a statement publicly. He said all memos must go through the chief of staff before coming to him.

“Even Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, to his credit, always passed his memos through me and several ministers, but our people still got their memos to him from behind because they knew his weak point and who to use and he never stopped them; but the advantage I had was that the memos came back to me,” the diplomat said.

The diplomat also addressed long-standing reports of a powerful cabal operating in Buhari’s presidency.

He said, “They say there was a cabal; there was. Every government has a cabal. They may call them a kitchen cabinet; they may call them a think tank.

“Former President Olusegun Obasanjo had a group of people – the Aboyades of this world and others – a small group of people. It is the nature of the office of the president that they must have some people in and out of government whom they can let their guard down to and talk to freely.

“Some have more powers than others, but I am bold to say that every government has a cabal of some kind or another, whatever name it is called. So, there was a cabal under Buhari.

Gambari, who previously served as foreign affairs minister under Buhari’s military regime in the 1980s, also reflected on the president’s decision-making style.

He said Buhari was deeply loyal to his appointees and reluctant to fire anyone, even in the face of mounting pressure (Channels)

Keyamo attacks Atiku for resigning from PDP during mourning of Buhari

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has attacked former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for announcing his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, at a time the nation is mourning ex-president Muhammadu Buhari.

Keyamo made this known in a statement on his X account on Wednesday.

He wrote: “Your Excellency, @atiku, whilst I acknowledge that it is within your constitutional right to change political parties at any time you may wish, however, releasing your letter of resignation from the PDP during this week of the mourning of our immediate past president, Muhammadu Buhari, is clearly an attempt to draw the spotlight away from such a solemn occasion and direct it on yourself. In fact (as the image below shows), you prepared, typed, signed, and delivered that letter the morning after the passing away of the former president was announced. With the greatest respect to you, this clearly demonstrates that your obsession with your perennial presidential ambition knows no sympathy or empathy.

“And since we are on the issue of your letter, it is both morally and legally wrong to continue to use the Coat of Arms of the Federal Government in your private or political communications when you stopped being a functionary of the Federal Government more than 18 years ago. Section 6 of the Flag and Coat of Arms Act, Cap. F30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, makes this an offence.

“Morally, it is also reprehensible to use a symbol suggesting that you are acting on behalf of the authority that symbol represents. It borders on impersonation. Imagine a situation where all former government functionaries continue to use the Coat of Arms of Nigeria in their personal, political, or private communications. There would certainly be confusion everywhere.

“I have a bounden duty both as a Cabinet member and a member of the Inner Bar to protect our laws and constitution. Please, be well guided,” he wrote on X.

Farooq Kperogi alleges Aisha and Buhari were divorced before his death, claims she had earlier changed to her maiden name

A Professor of Journalism and Emerging Media at Kennesaw State University, Farooq Kperogi, has alleged that Aisha changed to her maiden name, Halilu before former President Muhammadu Buhari died in London.

Kperogi made this claim in a post on his verified Facebook page on Wednesday.

According to him, Aisha had dropped Buhari as her surname.

He further alleged that Aisha was reluctant to travel to the United Kingdom to care for Buhari when he became ill.

Kperogi was reacting to quotes attributed to Aisha, which claimed Buhari had asked her to seek forgiveness from Nigerians on his behalf.

Although Kperogi said he could not confirm the authenticity of the quotes, he maintained that the couple were no longer married.

He wrote: “They had divorced, and Aisha reverted to her maiden name, Aisha Halilu. If you paid close attention, you would notice that Aisha didn’t go to Daura when he retired to the town after leaving office.

“Buhari was also alone when he later relocated to Kaduna. In fact, when he fell ill and it was suggested that Aisha travel to London to care for him, she reportedly hesitated because she was no longer his wife.”
