Why I can’t forget Buhari – Ex-EFCC Chair, Farida Waziri

Farida Waziri, former Executive Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC), has paid tribute to late former President Muhammadu Buhari, expressing why she could never forget the role he played in her life.

Waziri said in her condolence message on Wednesday in Abuja that the passing of former President Buhari has touched the hearts of millions across the nation.

She said it was a solemn reminder that no matter the trials and complexities of life, a man would be remembered by the values he or she steadfastly upheld.

She added that “in President Buhari, Nigeria witnessed a man whose life was shaped by discipline, defined by incorruptibility and anchored in an unwavering commitment to truth.

“From his early days as a military ruler to his democratic tenure as President, his devotion to the fight against corruption remained undimmed.”

Waziri said that Buhari was resolute in his pursuit of integrity in public service, even when it meant walking a lonely road.

She added that Buhari’s personal conduct spoke louder than rhetoric, noting that “he lived modestly, acted justly and held himself to a higher standard.

“I pay tribute to him not only as a public servant but as one whose principled actions touched my own life. In a system where justice is often elusive, President Buhari stood firm for what was right.”
She explained that it was under Buhari’s leadership that her rightful retirement rank as Assistant Inspector General of Police was rectified, stressing that the act alone spoke volumes of his character.

“President Buhari may have departed this world, but his legacy of moral strength and relentless anti-corruption crusade will echo through generations, he recognises truth and acts on it.

“May history remember him kindly, as a soldier, a statesman, and above all, a man of integrity. May his soul find peaceful repose.”

Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda has recounted a conversation he had with the late President, Muhammadu Buhari.

Radda recalled how Buhari told him he pitied President Bola Tinubu for being brave enough to remove the subsidy on fuel.

Buhari passed away on Sunday at a London clinic at the age of 82 and was buried on Tuesday at his Daura residence with full military honours.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of Buhari’s burial in Daura, the governor said: “Let me use his words: ‘I pity Bola (President Tinubu) for what he is doing. He is a brave man for removing the fuel subsidy.

“When I was president, whenever I made an attempt to remove the subsidy, a lot of people would give me too many reasons not to do so.

“But Bola did it immediately. If he had consulted people, he could not have removed the fuel subsidy now’.”

The governor also noted that the former President’s death has created a vacuum that would be difficult to fill.

2027: Gov. Sule discusses Buhari, Malami allegedly leaving APC

Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has dispel insinuations that former President Muhammadu Buhari, former Attorney General, Abubakar Malami, and others may leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) before the 2027 general election.

This is in reaction to speculations that members of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) bloc, were threatening to leave the (APC) for allegedly being sidelined by the current administration.

Sule stated this on Friday in Lafia at the grand reception in honour of the Secretary to the Government of Nasarawa State, Labaran Magaji, by the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) Nasarawa State chapter.

The governor, while commending the achievements of the APC administration under President Bola Tinubu, noted that those trying to divide the ranks of the party have failed.

“There is nothing like taking CPC away. Our father, former President Muhammadu Buhari is CPC, no other person.

“When he says CPC is with you, CPC is with you and the day he says CPC is not with you CPC is not with you. He keeps carrying his 12 million voters along with him anywhere he goes and he is not going anywhere from APC.

“Those trying to take away our good products from the APC will not succeed. They want to take Malami away, but let me tell you that Malami is going nowhere.

“That’s why we recently went to see Buhari in Kaduna and we said Baba you are not going anywhere.

“Malami sir, you are not going anywhere, we are going to build this house together.” Sule said.

Sule also revealed that 20 aspirants were already jostling for his position ahead of the 2027 election.

He maintained that he had no anointed candidate, saying that only God would decide who would succeed him as governor of Nasarawa State in 2027.

The governor pointed that that his administration had laid a solid economic  foundation for the next administration to build upon, added that he would leave the state debt-free.

He said that the appointment of Magaji was due to his pedigree and excellent track record in public service.

In his remarks, Abubakar Malami, former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, appreciated Gov. Sule for his foresight in appointing Magaji as SSG to drive his administration’s vision for the state.

He described Magaji as an all rounder, a technocrat per excellence, poised to drive Sule’s vision for a prosperous and united state through transparent governance.

Malami urged stakeholders to rally round Magaji to deliver on the administration’s vision for accountability, transparency and inclusive development in governance.

Also speaking, Alh. Safiyanu Andaha, Chairman of Nasarawa ALGON and Chairman of Akwanga Local Government Area, said the event was organised in solidarity with Magaji, given his proven record of excellent public service.

Andaha, who appreciated Gov. Sule for finding Magaji worthy of the appointment, also pledged their unalloyed support to the administration.

On his part, Magaji, appreciated the leadership style of Gov. Sule and his disposition towards the prudent and efficient management of the state’s resources for the benefit of the people.

BREAKING: Buhari breaks silence on plot to dump APC

  • Why we flushed out Buhari’s govt in 1985– IBB reveals

Why we flushed out Buhari’s govt in 1985– IBB reveals

Former military head of state, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), has reveald that Muhammadu Buhari’s regime was flushed out because he believed his policies were detrimental to the nation’s progress.

The former military leader disclosed this in his autobiography, ‘A Journey In Service’, launched in Abuja on Thursday.

Babangida was chief of staff to Buhari, who ousted Shehu Shagari’s civilian government in the December 31, 1983 coup.

After the military coup that replaced the civilian government of Shehu Shagari with a military regime led by Major General Muhammadu Buhari, Ibrahim Babangida assumed the Chief of Army Staff role.

However, he became increasingly dissatisfied with the Buhari government’s policies and leadership style, which he described as draconian.

Recalling how he journeyed from Minna to Lagos on August 27, 1985, to assume office, Babangida said tension had already begun to build up since the start of the year, and a change in leadership had become necessary.

He said, “On that day, it became my lot to step into the saddle of national leadership on behalf of the Nigerian armed forces. The change in leadership had become necessary as a response to the worsening mood of the nation and growing concern about our future as a people. All through the previous day, as we flew from Minna and drove through Lagos towards Bonny Camp, I was deeply reflecting on how we as a nation got to this point and how and why I found myself at this juncture of fate.

“By the beginning of 1985, the citizenry had become apprehensive about the future of our country. The atmosphere was precarious and fraught with ominous signs of clear and present danger. It was clear to the more discerning leadership of the armed forces that our initial rescue mission of 1983 had largely miscarried. We now stood the risk of having the armed forces split down the line because our rescue mission had largely derailed. If the armed forces imploded, the nation would go with it, and the end was just too frightening to contemplate.

“Divisions of opinion within the armed forces had come to replace the unanimity of purpose that informed the December 1983 change of government. In state affairs, the armed forces, as the only remaining institution of national cohesion, were becoming torn into factions; something needed to be done lest we lose the nation itself. My greatest fear was that division of opinion and views within the armed forces could lead to factionalisation in the military. If allowed to continue and gain root, grave dangers lay ahead.”

  • Buhari once rejected land offer during his tenure – Garba Shehu

Buhari once rejected land offer during his tenure – Garba Shehu

Former President Muhammadu Buhari once rejected an offer of land in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) during his tenure.

Buhari’s spokesman, Malam Garba Shehu, said this in a statement in Abuja on Thursday.

He was reacting to reports that a piece of land belonging to the former president was seized by the FCT authorities.

”As a person, the former president has a plot of land to his name in Abuja,” he said.

Shehu said Buhari rejected the offer of land when he and his cabinet members were invited to fill forms for allocation.

He said the former president had insisted that he already had land in the FCT, adding it should be given to those who did not have.

”President Buhari is personally not the owner of the said plot of land which is allocated in the name of “Muhammadu Buhari Foundation,” he stated.

Shehu said the foundation was itself floated lawfully by some ‘utilitarian individuals’ around Buhari.

The foundation, he added, was supported by some well-meaning persons.

He said the promoters of the foundation, however, ran into a ” roadblock” when the Federal Capital Development Authority gave them an ” outrageous” bill for the issuance of Certificate of Occupancy.

Shehu said the bill did not compare with the bills given to similar organisations.

“It may have been that this was not erroneous, but a deliberate mistake, making the revocation of land as no surprise to anyone,” he said.

He urged those engaging in speculation on social media to ” get their facts right and stop dragging down the name of the former president.”

Also, 759 other prominent figures and organisations in Maitama II, Abuja. were also affected by the revocation which was for non-payment of Certificate of Occupancy.

This was contained in a publication by the FCT Administration and made available to Channels Television by the Special Adviser to the FCT Minister, Lere Olayinka.

In a separate publication, the minister also threatened to revoke lands belonging to the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Kingsley Chinda; former presidents of the Senate, Iyorchia Ayu and Ameh Ebute; the Chief Whip of the Senate, Tahir Monguno; and 610 others for outstanding fees owed to the FCTA for certificate of occupancy not paid within two weeks.

This revocation by the minister comes months after he made several pleas to residents of the FCT, particularly those residing in hybrid areas of the nation’s capital, to pay outstanding fees owed to the FCTA or risk revocation of their lands.
