    Trump commends Buhari on fight against terrorism

    The United States President, Donald Trump, on yesterday, commended President Muhammadu Buhari on the fight against terrorism via telephone.

    The conversation was cordial and President Buhari congratulated Trump on his election as President of the United States, as well as on his cabinet.

    This was revealed in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President, Femi Adesina.

    The two leaders discussed ways to improve cooperation in the fight against terrorism through provision of necessary equipment.

    Mr Trump then assured the Nigerian President of the U.S readiness to cut a new deal in procurement of military weapons to combat terrorism.

    Meanwhile, President Trump encouraged President Buhari to keep up the good work he has done so far, and also commended him for the efforts made in rescuing 24 of the Chibok Girls and the strides being taken by the Nigerian military.

    The American President finally invited President Buhari to Washington for a visit at a date convenient to both leaders.

  • Why Buhari travelled to London for treatment – Adewole

    The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole has said President Muhammadu Buhari decided to visit a London hospital for treatment on the advice of his doctors.

    TheNewsGuru.com reports that Adewole made the clarification while speaking with newsmen on the sidelines of the inauguration of Central Pharmacy Store and Maternity Building at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex , Ile Ife.

     

    In his words: “I won’t describe it as a large volume but we still have people travelling abroad.

    “One, it is a matter of choice and secondly, there is what is called bonding between a doctor and his patient irrespective of where the doctor is and that creates a problem, the patient may not want to see a new doctor.

    “If a patient is seeing a particular doctor and that doctor is not around he may likely wait. You don’t want to be examined by a new doctor, you don’t want to start all over again. It is one of the reasons and you can’t take it away.

    Adewole said, “The President is the best person to speak on this, he is our leader but also a private citizen. He is entitled to making a choice which will be influenced largely by the advice of his doctor.”

    Trump speaks to Buhari, invites him to Whitehouse

    President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday in London by 3:45pm spoke to President Donald Trump by telephone at the request of the American President.

    This was revealed in a statement by Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Mr Femi Adesina, in Abuja.

    TheNewsGuru.com reports that this is the first time Donald Trump will be speaking to any African leader since assuming presidency of the United States on January 20, 2017.

    Adesina noted that the the conversation was cordial and Buhari congratulated Trump on his election as President of the United States, and on his cabinet.

    He stated further that the two leaders discussed ways to improve cooperation in the fight against terrorism through provision of necessary equipment.

    According to him, Trump encourages Buhari to keep up the good work he is doing, and also commends him for the efforts he has made in rescuing 24 of the Chibok Girls and the strides being taken by the Nigerian military.

    “Trump assured the Nigerian president of the U.S readiness to cut a new deal in helping Nigeria in terms of military weapons to combat terrorism.

    “Trump also invited Buhari to Washington at a mutually convenient date,” he added.

    TheNewsGuru.com reports that Buhari, who extended his initial 10-day vacation in London, had earlier had telephone discussions with the Senate President Bukola Saraki and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Yakubu Dogara.

    The president had proceeded on a 10-day vacation in UK on Jan. 19 for a routine medical check as indicated in a letter to the Senate which also authorised Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo to act as president pending his return.

    TheNewsGuru.com reports that the president, who could not make it back to the country on Feb. 6, transmitted another letter to the Senate requesting extension of time to complete his medical check-up in London.

    President Donald Trump of the United States of America, USA, is scheduled to speak with Nigeria’s president, Muhammadu Buhari later today.

    Geoffrey York, who is the Africa correspondent for The Globe disclosed this via his twitter page.

    He said Donald Trump will be speaking to Buhari in respect of celebration of Africa day.

    On his twitter page @Geoffreyyork, he wrote: “Today is “Africa day” for Donald Trump. He speaks by phone to Nigerian president Buhari at 3:45 pm (Lagos time); then speaks to Jacob Zuma.

    “Trump is scheduled to speak by phone to Zuma today at 5:10 pm, after speaking to Buhari first.

    “Buhari’s phone call with Trump today will be fascinating; many Nigerians frustrated that Buhari has been gone from Nigeria for over 3 weeks.

    “Nigerians, having heard almost nothing from Buhari for 24 days, are wondering how Donald Trump will even locate him for the phone call today,” he wrote.

    TheNewsGuru.com reports that Buhari’s Personal Assistant on New Media, Ahmad Bashir also confirmed that both leaders will be speaking later in the day on his Twitter handle @ BashirAhmaad.

    The Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Senator Babefemi Ojudu has said only those who had looted the country dry and were afraid of facing the music would wish the president dead.

    Ojodu spoke on Saturday at Ado Ekiti while hosting leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress in the state.

    He stated that Buhari had so far given the country exemplary leadership and clearing the rot left behind by the 16-year rule of the Peoples Democratic Party, which he said, had damaged the economy of the nation.

    He urged APC members in Ekiti to be united and continue aggressive mobilisation ahead of the 2018 governorship poll to wrest power from Governor Ayodele Fayose-led PDP in the state.

    In his words: “Our President is honest, patriotic, committed and passionate that this country must be great. Nobody can accuse the President of fraud, corruption and stealing in government.

    “He is on a holiday and he can use the opportunity to check the state of his health. At my own age, I do visit my doctors to check myself, my blood pressure, my sugar level and all the rest.

    “I want to assure concerned Nigerians who really love the President that he will soon be back. It is only those who have stolen our money and kept it away that are wishing him dead.

    “The President will soon be back and by God’s grace, he will not die as some mischievous people wish.”

    Ojudu said his desire was to ensure unity of APC members in Ekiti and bring everybody on board to build a stronger party ahead of the 2018 poll.

    “Ekiti is a progressive state, our people must join the party of the progressives and they must reject the retrogressive party. Let our members go out and mobilise our people to drive away the interlopers in power.

    “The image of Ekiti has been battered and damaged but we are coming back to repair it. All of us are ready to change the government here. The man should start packing his bags,” Ojodu said.

    Nothing can take away Buhari’s Integrity – Amosun

     

    Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State has said President Muhammadu Buhari is reputed worldwide for his integrity and lack of interest in material things.

    Amosun spoke with The Sun on the sidelines of his relationship with President Buhari.

    The governor stated that his relationship with President Muhammadu Buhari has nothing to do with politics.

    Amosun, who has been an ardent supporter of the President Buhari’s administration, described the president as a family friend – someone he knew even before venturing into politics.

    In his words: “I must say that my relationship with President Buhari is not even about politics. I have known him way back, even before all my leaders. We have been together. He is like a father to our family.

    Anything he is doing I am there and anything we are doing, he is also there. So, it has nothing with politics; it is just like a family thing. But you know, people will want to read politics into everything.”

    According to the governor, President Buhari’s integrity and lack of interest in material things made him worthy of emulation, and was the attracting force binding them together.

    He added, “Well there is something anybody will not take away from him; his integrity. He walks his talk. Nobody will say Buhari is a corrupt leader; he is unassuming and he carries himself with no airs and doesn’t bother himself about material things.

    That is one thing that is worthy of emulation. That alone, maybe, is what I really like in him.”

  • We are not in support of protest against Buhari, says Nigerians in UK

    The UK chapter of the Nigerians in Diaspora Monitoring Group (NDMG)has denied ever staging any report against the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration as reported in some online media.

    The group in an electronic statement signed by Engr. Adeka Onyilo, its UK Cordinator said though its aware that some unscrupulous Nigerians are in the UK looking to recruit uninformed persons and foreigners alike to go out and embarrass the Nigerian government in an attempt to taint its anti-corruption crusade and for known corrupt persons to escape justice.

    He however said no member of the group, or any other groups to our knowledge, staged protests here in the UK at anytime over the health or against the administration of President Buhari.

    He also said the group has confirmed that Mr President is not in any critical condition that calls for Nigerians to worry.

    According to him, the NDMG believes in and will continue to identify with the laudable achievements of President Buhari especially in the areas of fighting corruption and defeating Boko Haram terrorism and routing the group from Nigeria’s soil.

    He said, “The pockets of isolated attacks are current challenges facing the world as a whole and only concerted efforts, supports and only de-radicalization of youths that have been brainwashed into extreme forms of religious views can curb such happenings anywhere in the society.

    “To this ends, the NDMG (UK) wishes to salute the efforts of the Nigerian Army which led other security partners to flush the insurgents out of their stronghold.

    No amount of honour is enough for the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Buratai and the gallant troops under his command that performed the magic that has brought so much honour to the country abroad.

    “To the extent that the people are celebrating the peace that has returned to their various communities across the north east and Local Government elections holding in all the wards of Yobe State on Saturday February 11, 2017, we hereby declare that there are indisputable facts that the Nigerian Military have delivered and must be commended.”

    He warned those attempting tarnish the image of Nigeria to have a rethink and desist from such.

  • 350 mosques in Borno offer prayers for Buhari’s quick recovery

    As a way of ensuring that the president returns on home safe, the Borno State Government gave a directive on Friday for mosques in the state to offer special prayers for President Muhammadu Buhari’s fast recovery in London.

    In a statement issued on Friday in Maiduguri, Malam Isa Gusau,Special Adviser to Gov. Kashim Shettima on Communication and Strategy, said the prayers were led by Chief Imams of various mosques shortly after the mandatory Friday prayers.

    “Chief Imams in about 350 Jumma’at Mosques in Maiduguri, Jere, Biu and other parts of the state, on Friday, led thousands of worshipers to offer special prayers for the speedy and full recovery of President Muhammadu Buhari following request by Governor Kashim Shettima.

    “The prayers were offered in appreciation of President Buhari’s commitment to the fight against the Boko Haram insurgents, which resulted in the liberation of many communities and relative peace now being enjoyed by residents across the state,” he said.

    He said that similar prayers were expected to hold in churches on Sunday.

    Some Muslims clerics in Maiduguri,Borno, on Friday said on Friday they had commenced 10-day prayer and fasting for the health of President Muhammadu Buhari.

    Malam Uma Bolori who spoke on behalf of the clerics said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) in Maiduguri on Friday.

    He said, ‘’Our prayer is what President Buhari needs from Nigerians rather rumours.

    “President Buhari deserves payers from the people of North-East, for not allowing Borno to go on extinction when almost all the territories in the state were taken over by Boko Haram.

    ” We are going to fast, supplicate and recite Holy Qur’an 50 times for improved health condition of our President.

    “Nigerians must rally round their leaders and pray for them, to enable them succeed in steering the affiars of this country.

    ” No citizen should wish his or her president death, he or she should rather wish him wisdom, sound health and political will to enable him fulfill his campaign promises to the people.”

    Umar Bolori said that since the coming of the president to power, Boko Haram insurgency had reduced to the barest minimum in the North-East.
