President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said that his administration will review the recent currency swap policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and old and new notes to remain in circulation.

He assured that he would work towards unifying the exchange rate in order to direct funds into meaningful investments.

According to him, a unified exchange rate would be in creating equipment and jobs that would power the economy.

He also said interest rates would be reduced to increase investment in such a way that would sustain the economy at a higher level.

The old and new notes will remain in circulation.

“By this time, I had already conceded defeat, and this was because I was more interested in the country than my self.”

Malam Garba Shehu, the President’s spokesman confirmed this development in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.

The affected federal agencies are those stationed at the Dodan Barracks concerning the management and control of the land.

Reno Omokri knocks Buhari over farewell speech

A public affairs commentator, Reno Omokri, Reno Okori knocked the outgoing president of the federal republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari after saying he will leave the country better than he met it in 2015.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that Buhari made the statement during his farewell broadcast as President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces on Sunday, May 28.

Reacting to the farewell speech, Omokri said: “On May 29, 2015, when President Goodluck Jonathan handed over the Presidency of Nigeria to General Buhari, the nation’s Gross Domestic Product was $509.9. Please do not take my word for it. Verify it by yourself. In 2023, as General Buhari prepares to hand over the Presidency to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, our Gross Domestic Product is an estimated $450 billion”.

“From the above, General Buhari’s statement in his so-called farewell broadcast to the nation, in which he said, “I am confident that I am leaving office with Nigeria better in 2023 than in 2015″, is a very provocative and blatant lie. In 2015, we only had a national security threat from Boko Haram. Today, we have national existential threats from Boko Haram, bandits; and unknown gunmen, amongst others. In 2015, the Naira was ₦199 to $1. Today, it is ₦750 to $1. In 2015, our total foreign debt was $10.7 billion”.

“Today, it is almost $50 billion. In 2015, Nigeria was 136 in Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index. In 2023, we are 150. So, precisely in what area of our national life has Buhari made ‘Nigeria better in 2023 than in 2015’? The only thing we can now say to General Buhari is that you were a mistake, and may you go and may your like NEVER return to power to afflict us again. In Yeshua’s Name, I pray”.

Buhari’s 8-year reign: Echoes of applauds and criticisms

President Muhammadu Buhari’s ascent to power in 2015 was seen by many as a divine intervention to rescue Nigeria from the mismanagement of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the tumultuous political climate that had persisted since the restoration of democracy in 1999.

However, his presidency was not without its challenges, including political conspiracies, opposition from influential figures, and even foreign interests seeking to undermine his leadership.

Despite these obstacles, Buhari secured his re-election in 2019, leaving Nigerians divided on the extent to which he fulfilled his promises and accomplished his goals.

During his 2015 campaign, Buhari made numerous pledges that resonated with Nigerians, but as his tenure progressed, some critics felt that these promises were not fully realized.

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State is among those who expressed their dissatisfaction with the Buhari administration. Ortom criticized the outgoing president, stating that the country flourished under the previous administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, but the last eight years witnessed unimaginable poverty, insecurity, and general mismanagement.

Ortom stated, “Never in the history of Nigeria did we experience this kind of bad governance in the country.” His sentiments echo the frustrations felt by many Nigerians who expected better outcomes under Buhari’s leadership.

In response to criticisms, the Presidency recently released a 90-page fact sheet titled: “Buhari’s footprint on the sands of time,” highlighting the achievements of the Muhammadu Buhari-led government as it approaches its conclusion on May 29.

The fact sheet emphasizes the signing of 37 bills into law, the issuance of 12 executive orders, the initiation of numerous infrastructure projects, the forging of bilateral agreements, and the appointment or election of eminent Nigerians to global leadership positions.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity Femi Adesina, defended the administration’s accomplishments, stating, “As he had promised many times, he would not be leaving Nigeria the way he met it.”

“Those who are objective, taking a dispassionate look at this fact sheet, would admit that President Buhari came and served meritoriously”.

The fact sheet showcases notable achievements in infrastructure development, including the construction of over 961km of rail lines across the nation. It also highlights progress in power, roads, healthcare, housing, oil and gas, and the digital economy.

President Buhari himself asserts that he has steered the country towards success, stating, “I have run a good race, I have finished my course. It is now time for another to take up the baton.”

The assessment of Buhari’s performance extends beyond the government’s own fact sheet. The Forum of Political Parties (FPP) in Lagos State also evaluated the regime’s infrastructure development efforts.

Chairman of the FPP Kolawole Ajayi, acknowledged that while Nigerians had high expectations, Buhari’s regime made commendable strides in infrastructure.

However, Ajayi also noted that the fight against corruption did not sustain its momentum throughout the entire administration.

As Buhari’s tenure comes to an end, the legacy of Buhari’s eight-year presidency remains a subject of debate and individual perspectives, yet the incoming administration has the challenge to build upon existing policies and address areas of improvement to ensure a prosperous Nigeria.

Tunde Bakare reveals only way he can address Tinubu

General Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has said that he will never call the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, his president, will only address him as the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The clergyman said this during a webinar on Saturday, May 27, after delivering his speech on the Zoom programme titled, ‘Building the New Nigeria: The Role of the Diaspora.”

Bakare had said the 2023 elections were below acceptable standards.

When asked if he would be happy to work for the new government as a ‘Minister of Diaspora Engagements,’ the clergyman laughed and spoke about how he addresses President Buhari.

Bakare said he recently told Buhari that sometimes he called him President of Nigeria and other times, he called him “My President.”

He however said he would never refer to Tinubu as “My President.’”

“Last Wednesday, I was at the Glass House where he (Buhari) has been restricted now because the main house is being renovated. I said I have done that for you. I want you to know that, because of the circumstances of your flying into power on the wings of integrity and incorruptibility, but you’re now passing onto someone who does not have that value,” the cleric told the participants.

He continued;  “at any public lecture anywhere, before this mess is cleared off, I will address Asiwaju as a President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria but I will never call him my president.”

He said he didn’t participate in the elections, therefore, no one would say he lost in the exercise.

Bakare, who participated in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary election on June 14, 2022 and polled no vote, said; “I participated in the primary, and there were hundreds who participated only by stepping down, so there is no shame in what we have done. We spoke truth to power within seven minutes. I wasn’t there when they voted, I wasn’t there when they scored (me) zero, but we won that badge of zero and badge of honour.”
