Buhari drops another charade, says I will fly from Eagle Square to Kaduna before relocating to Daura

…says opposition parties gave the impression that our govt was in a mess

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday another charade saying that immediately he hands over to the next President on May 29, he will take off from the swearing-in venue to Kaduna before proceeding to Daura, his hometown.

TheNewsGuru.com, (TNG) reports the president had earlier declared that he would relocate to Niger Republic to avoid disturbance from anybody.

He said he has been counting the days and was looking forward to Monday very desperately, adding that he would use the weekend to sign some of the papers so that from Eagles Square he will take off.

President Buhari also said that before the concluded general elections, the opposition political parties had created the impression outside the country that the All Progressives Congress-led administration was going into a mess because it has incompetent leadership

The outgoing President spoke at his Book launch with the title, “A promise kept, a compendium of significant achievements of Muhammadu Buhari Administration 2015-2023,” at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

said, “I think by my profession, I spent most of my time that is the military for 20 years, there wasn’t this surprise. If you allow yourself to be taken by surprise you will be virtually overwhelmed. I wasn’t expecting this honestly. Especially today when I need to sign a few papers because I know on Monday, from the swearing-in venue I will fly directly to Kaduna and then I will go to the other side of Nigeria.

Thank you for surprising me with your generosity and kindness. I think the achievement we wanted is to make we developed a firm political culture. I think I was expecting too much. When I was in Doha, meeting some heads of state, I was getting calls from Europe, America, and Nigeria, congratulating us on the success of the elections.

The opposition has created the impression outside the country that we are going into a mess because we have incompetent leadership of the party. They were overwhelmed that the election came and went and both at the center and at the states, fantastic.”

He further said, “How can ten sitting governors of states lose their constituencies, this has been unprecedented. So I congratulate you the national working committee (of the APC) and others here, that we have really proved that democracy is worth defending.

“Nigerians have understood it now, otherwise how can they vote against their sitting governors stopping them from going to the senate to rest?

So they were really overwhelmed and I congratulate our political development. Please congratulate your constituencies, it means that even though you have excess money, they will collect and put it in their pockets but they will elect the person they trust from any constituency, either House of Assembly, House of Representatives, or Senate until it comes to the president itself.

Today, we prayed together with Asiwaju (Bola Tinubu) and I congratulated him and I said I am eager to go to the other side of Nigeria. I wish him the best of luck. I said his Vice President is experienced, a two-time governor in his state, and then the senate. And this is how we got the chairman of our party, two-time governor in his state and also he has been in the Senate.

So they are people are really from the bottom of the system to the top. When you get experienced people to be in charge, taking important decisions, they will always reflect on their experiences and they can hardly go wrong. So I congratulate you and our party.

“I thank you very much for this major surprise, I think now when I go back I will have time to read some books not just about myself but about other issues. I assure you, I have been counting the days, I am looking forward to Monday very desperately. I will use the weekend to sign some of the papers so that from Eagles Square, I will fly to Kaduna and eventually go to Daura. Thank you very much.”

Buhari receives assets Declaration Form, direct all outgoing officials to do same

President Muhammadu Buhari says his strict adherence to the constitutional requirement of assets declaration before and after taking office is aimed at strengthening best practices and raising moral standards in Public Service.

Malam Garba Shehu, the President’s spokesman in a statement on Friday in Abuja, said this action would also help to build integrity and combating corruption.

The president, therefore, directed that all out-going officials, elected and appointed from the Vice President downwards must collect the assets declaration form, fill and return it as he has done.

Speaking upon collecting his form from Prof. Isah Mohammed, the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau, in Abuja on Friday, Buhari said ”no one is excluded from the Constitutional duty of assets declaration.

“I signed, collected and acknowledged receiving my form.  From here, I will ask my bank Manager in Kaduna to show me what has gone in and out of my account.

”Nobody is excluded from declaring their assets.  I expected everyone from the Vice President downwards to follow the system.”

Mohammed said compliance by the President in the last eight years and the support he had given to the Bureau had enabled it to achieve 99 per cent compliance by elected and appointed officials.

He also acknowledged the support of the president in the achievement of the digitization of its services and operations thereby helping the organisation to open investigation of cases with greater efficiency.

Four days to vacate office, Buhari approves fresh appointments

Barely four days before hand over, President Muhammadu Buhari has announced fresh appointments.

On Thursday, President Buhari approved the appointment of Garzali Abubakar as the Executive Secretary of the National Agricultural Development Fund, a presidential spokesperson said.

“The president also approved the appointment of the following as Chairman and members of the Board of the organisation,” Garba Shehu wrote.

Those appointed include Aduke Hussain as Chairman, Hussaini Mohammed (North Central Representative), Mohammed Umar (North West Representative), Abdulsalam Ahmed (North East Representative), Stella Uzokwe (South East Representative), Stephen Ikata (South-South Representative) and Olufunlayo Oluwole Faloye (South West Representative).

The latest appointments are the latest in a series of actions taken by the outgoing president a few days before his exit; actions criticised by observers.

“They are supposed to allow the new government to make its plans. They can propose to the new government and tell them this should be the best for the state. If the new government deems it fit, it can look into it as part of its major priorities and implement it for the benefit of the state. I believe this is what the president should have done – to advise the incoming government,” Jamilu Abdussalam, a senior lecturer at the Department of Political Science at Ummaru Musa Yar’adu’a University, Katsina, said of the last-minute appointments and actions taken by the outgoing government.

I laid foundation for free, fair election, says Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that he was leaving behind the foundation of free and fair election that has produced the president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Buhari stated this Thursday in Abuja at the launch of the Biography of the mother of Emir of Kano and Emir of Bichi, titled “Maryam Ado Bayero: A Woman of Royal Virtue”.

The book chronicles the life and times of Hajiya Maryam Ado Bayero, Mai Babban Daki, mother of two First Class Emirs of Kano and Bichi, Alhaji Aminu and Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero.

Buhari who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, described late Maryam as an extraordinary mother full of compassion and love for all who came her way.

His words: “Mr President finishing his eight years term in office strong and well, leaving behind many legacies, which include the foundation of free and fair election that has produced the president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

“It has also produced the legacy of achievements in the area of diversification of our economy, reforms of the petroleum industry and infrastructure. Few days ago, we saw him commission the second Niger Bridge, major parts of Kano-Abuja expressway as well as several roads and bridges. And, of course, he is finishing strong and well in pushing back the enemies of Nigeria through insurgency and other form of criminalities.”

Buhari further described the late Maryam as the embodiment of tradition and modernity, a thorough-bred royal who lived a life of a trailblazer, compassionate, human, generous and warm.

He added: “As a professor of political science and a student of history myself, I am yet to stumble on a more interesting personality such as my late elder sister, who in her life time had the good fortune of being the granddaughter of an emir, the 7th Emir of Ilorin; daughter of another emir (8th Emir of Ilorin) and wife to an outstanding revered Emir of Kano, late Ado Bayero and mother of two Emirs (Bichi and Kano). This should have entered the Guinness Book of Records. By virtue of this great piece of history by Ambassador Sani Hajo (author), we have captured and immortalised her life and works for future generation to rely on as a compass.”

Also, the Governor of Kano state, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, said the decision by the government of Kano state to immortalize the late Mai Babban Daki by supporting the book project was informed by its desire to inspire younger generations, particularly girls, to learn the lessons of life from a distinguished mother.

He said documenting the life of a distinguished mother was a service to history, knowledge and development, adding that “every part of her life is but a mirror for the present and future generations.

According to him, late Nana Maryam Ado Bayero has been recognized for her humility, generosity and unassuming, and despite her position, she lived a simple life worthy of emulation.

“The idea behind the book is in itself unique. It started as a discussion between the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari and myself during the period of mourning of her departure, when he briefed me about her royal pedigree from the eminent scholar and leader, Sheikh Salihu al Alimi, the founder of modern Ilorin, through many emirs.

“The state government will also support the establishment of a foundation to continue with the good work she had been doing when she was alive which included the building of a Friday Mosque, an islamiyya school as well as sponsoring an annual Maulud at the Kano Emir’s Palace and Qur’anic Recitation Competitions. Therefore, as a step forward, proceeds from today’s launch will be directed to that foundation.”

Commenting on the life and time of the late Maryam, Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi who described her as her mother, urged Nigerians women to train up their children properly for them to bring glory to their mothers.

He said: “Our late mother is a virtuous woman and I am proud to identify with her. I will urge Nigerian women to train their children so that one day they will bring glory to them.”

It’s time to pass batton, I’ve run a good race – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari, Thursday, scored himself high as he declared that he has run a good race.

President Buhari while speaking at the investiture of national honours of the Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic, GCFR, on the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger, GCON, on Vice President-elect Kashim Shettima.

The outgoing President handed the Transition Documents as well as the symbolic Baton of Service over to Asiwaju Tinubu at the event, held at Old Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Buhari said he had done his part in steering the ship of the country to success, adding that it was now time for him to pass leadership responsibility on to another who will continue with the task.

He expressed confidence that with the President-elect in charge, Nigeria is in safe hands.

According to him, “I would like now to express my deepest gratitude to the Nigerian people for their unwavering support and trust throughout my tenure as President. It has been an honour and a privilege to serve this great nation, and I am confident that Nigeria is in capable hands as we embark on this new chapter.

“I have run a good race, I have finished my course. It is now time for another to take up the baton.”

He congratulated both political leaders, who had served as Governor of Lagos and Borno States, respectively.

He said, “I extend my warmest congratulations to the President-elect, on his well-deserved victory at the February 25th, 2023 Presidential elections. The Nigerian people have recognized your leadership qualities, political acumen, and passion to serve our great nation, and have entrusted you with the burden of governing our beloved country.

“I have no doubt that Nigeria will continue to thrive and achieve new heights under your leadership. You were the best candidate at the elections and Nigerians have chosen wisely.

“I equally extend my congratulations to the Vice President-elect. Your wealth of experience in governance, your unwavering commitment to the well-being of the Nigerian people, and your exemplary leadership during challenging times as Governor of Borno State, have made you a deserving candidate for this position. I have full confidence that you will serve our nation with utmost dedication and integrity.

“In accordance with the Honours Award Act, 1963, Laws of Federation of Nigeria, (LFN), 2004, Presidents/Heads of State receive the Honour of Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (GCFR) while the Vice Presidents are awarded the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON).

“Today, with the authority vested in me, as the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I have conferred the National Honour of GCFR on His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu and that of the GCON on His Excellency Kashim Shettima respectively.

“As we celebrate this auspicious occasion, let us not forget the immense responsibilities that come with leadership. The challenges facing our nation are significant, and it is the duty of the President and Vice President to address them with courage, wisdom, and compassion.

“We must remain committed to the principles of good governance, transparency, and accountability, as these are the foundations upon which our nation’s progress and development rely, “

The President noted that Asiwaju had the experience and capacity to lead the country, carrying on the legacy of his administration.

“President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, you have a long and illustrious track record of public service, marked by your exceptional achievements in various capacities. Your transformative leadership in Lagos State, where you left an indelible mark in the areas of infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic development, speaks volumes about your dedication to the welfare of the Nigerian people.”

President Buhari expressed his deepest gratitude to Nigerians for their unwavering support and trust throughout his tenure, adding “It has been an honour and a privilege to serve this great nation, and I am confident that Nigeria is in capable hands as we embark on this new chapter.’’

While examining some of the challenges before incoming administration, President Buhari advised Asiwaju Tinubu to lead the country with wisdom, courage, and compassion.

“Once again, I congratulate President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President-elect Kashim Shettima on their well-deserved investiture. May the Almighty bless you and guide you in your endeavors to lead Nigeria towards a brighter and more prosperous future,’’ he stated.

President Buhari said the administration was faced with many challenges at inception and worked hard to tackle hydra-headed issues.

“This administration from inception has faced security challenges such as insurgency, oil theft, kidnapping as well as corruption which has eaten deep into the system.

“With the political will and support of many Nigerians, especially our dogged Armed Forces, insurgency, terrorism, and kidnapping have been reduced to their barest minimum while corruption has been tackled headlong.

“Despite the aforementioned challenges, our administration has made economic gains over the years. While acknowledging the turbulent times and global economic meltdown occasioned by the world oil crisis and most recently, the COVID-19 pandemic, our economy has remained afloat and strong.

“Our administration’s commitment and determination in infrastructural upliftment of Nigeria have remained unshaken,’’ he added.

Enumerating some of his achievements, President Buhari noted that Second Niger Bridge, named President Muhammadu Buhari, had been completed and commissioned.

“I am happy to say that no administration in Nigeria’s modern history has given so much attention to roads as we have done in the last eight years. In all, we have been able to construct and complete over 8,352.94 kilometers of roads across Nigeria.

“Ladies and gentlemen, in spite of the shortfall in the federal government’s revenue, due to the weakness in the global economy that led to a drop in oil revenue, we have touched on all sectors of the Nigerian economy positively.

“As we celebrate the monumental infrastructural strides achieved by this Administration, it is pertinent to acknowledge that these transformative endeavors have not only reshaped our physical landscape but have also paved the way for remarkable economic outcomes that reverberate across our nation.

“The link between infrastructure and economic prosperity is undeniable. It is through the construction of roads, railways, bridges, and other critical assets that we unlock the true potential of our nation, leading to better communication, facilitating trade, and propelling economic growth,’’ he said.

“To avoid a repeat of our 2015 experience,’’ the President said an Executive Order No. 14 of 2023, had been signed, establishing the legal framework for conducting presidential transitions at the federal level.

He said the Executive Order establishes the Presidential Transition Council chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Ministerial Transition Teams headed by the Permanent Secretaries.

President Buhari explained that the primary responsibility of the two ad-hoc bodies was to ensure that every piece of information that will help a new administration get off to a speedy start was made available in a usable format and in a timely manner.

“Today, I am so proud to have handed over to you my Successor, Your Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu three key documents that will guide you as you aim to define a path for your administration.

“It is my earnest desire that you will find these documents useful as this would be the first time in the history of this country that such detailed documentation will be produced for handover to a new administration. I strongly encourage you to uphold this legacy and make the experience even better for your successor by the time you are to leave office.

“It may also interest you to know that apart from these three documents, all the Ministries and their Agencies have also prepared their Handover Notes, ready to brief their new political leadership. I want to sincerely thank the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and his team for this great feat,’’ he further stated.

On the transfer of a symbolic baton to Asiwaju Tinubu, President Buhari said that the incoming government would continue with the race of advancing democracy and development.

“This is a first in the history of our Nation’s transition process. To preserve this remarkable history for generations to come, I have directed that the Baton be preserved in the Presidential history wing of the National Archives and I hope that President-elect Tinubu and those after him will build on this tradition”, he added.

Before the investiture ceremony, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Boss Mustapha, who is also the Chairman of the Presidential Transition Council (PTC), have a detailed briefing on the transmitted Transition Documents, which he said included three documents.

According to him, the Transition Documents handed over to the President-elect by Buhari were basically made up of, one, briefing notes on each of the nine priority areas of the outgoing administration’s focus, two, a compendium of the federal government’s priority programmes and projects and three, the status of policies implemented.

…I know the magnitude of task ahead

Joyful President-elect Bola Tinubu has reminded outgoing President Muhammadu Buhari that he will still knock at his door even if he relocates to Daura, after he received the highest title in Nigeria.

Declares that he understands the magnitude of the task ahead as he prepares to take on the mantle of leadership.

The former governor of Lagos was declared the winner of the February 25 presidential election after defeating Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP).

On Thursday, Tinubu was conferred with the Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (GCFR) — the highest national honour — while Kashim Shettima, the vice-president-elect, was bestowed with the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON).

Speaking after receiving the honour in Abuja, Tinubu told President Muhammdu Buhari to “expect knocks” on his doors.

“I understand the honour given to me today and the magnitude of the task ahead; whether you go to Daura or Niger Republic, expect knocks on your doors,” he said.

Tinubu, who is expected to be sworn in as president on May 29, said he will not disappoint Buhari and Nigerians.

He also praised the outgoing president for honouring the late MKO Abiola, the winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election.

“President Buhari, you have shown courage in taking tough decisions others avoided One such decision was to recognize the injustice of the annulment of the 1993 election, to designate June as Democracy Day, and to bestow the nation’s highest honour on the late MKO Abiola,” Tinubu said.

“As much as anyone could, you reached back into history to set the record straight and heal a festering wound. The justice you did in this matter lends special meaning to today.

“I am a simple man who is the beneficiary of the support and goodwill of the people of Nigeria.

The people have put their trust in us. You have done your part Mr. President.

“Now, that great duty descends on me. I understand the meaning of the honour given to me today and of the task that awaits.

“I must run this race and must do it well. On security, the economy, agriculture, jobs, education, health and power and in all other sectors we must make headway. The people deserve no less. In this, I shall disappoint neither them nor you, Mr. President.”

Gen. Galadanci lauds Buhari for equipping Armed Forces

A retired Brigadier General, Muhammad-Kabir Galadanci, has lauded the outgoing administration of President Muhammadu Buhari for securing massive operational platforms for the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

Galadanci gave the commendation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Kaduna.

He recalled that before the emergence of the administration in 2015, the armed forces had insufficient weapons with which to confront those threatening the security of the county.

The general said the situation made it very difficult for the armed forces to defeat the threats, especially the threats posed by Boko Haram insurgents and other criminals.

Galadanci however said that the Buhari administration emboldened the armed forces with new and modern platforms which gave them the courage to drive the adversaries and reclaim Nigerian territories.

“Some of the platforms the Armed Forces were equipped with such as anti-bomb and bullet proof vehicles and MRAPs, saved the lives of many personnel on service to their father land.

“The provision of drones and fighter jets including 12 Super Tucanos by President Buhari among others platforms, also greatly impacted the fight against insurgency and banditry in the country.”

Galadanci also said the outgoing administration had refurbished and brought back to life some abandoned platforms which raised the successes being recorded against terrorism and other crimes in the country.

“You must have seen the recent display of military platforms by the armed forces few days ago, that alone is evident that President Buhari administration had spent so much on security, and it has been worth it,” he added.

He prayed for wisdom for the incoming administration of Bola Tinubu, and advised it to further strengthen the capacity of the Armed Forces and other security agencies.

“It is important for the adversaries to be made to feel the full powers of the government, to know that they could be crushed with one blow.

“There is no country that is free of insecurity of whatever kind.

“What we however should focus on is what the Government put in place to deter those who have intention of terrorism and other crime, to desist because of the repercussions.

“Buhari has finished his two-term tenure, our prayers for him is for God to reciprocate to him the good things he has done for us and forgive his mistakes and shortcomings,” he added.

The general reminded Nigerians that they have an obligation to be just and fair to every citizen irrespective of religion, political class or other affiliation.

“We should be fair to the leaders by asking ourselves if they are really performing, we should not be selfish to grade them on what we expected to benefit personally from them which never came to us.

“Those who will be at the helm of the country’s affairs at various levels should enlighten the people on their responsibilities to the government on every aspect.

“We should always be reminded and hold our leaders at every level accountable on their responsibilities; not every failure at the grassroots should be attributed to the Federal Government.

“People are quick in forgetting that they also voted Governors, Senators, House of Representatives members, Chairmen and Councillors. They should learn to hold them to account,” Galadanci added.

He also advised citizens to know that leaders were not expected to do whatever the people want, but rather do what is right for the populace.

“We should not rate the achievements of our leaders by what our hearts wanted, but by what they have done for the populace.”

“We partner with a lot of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) in order to help our citizens, and I have enjoyed that goodwill for the last eight years.

  • I am proud to say we gave Nigerians our best, says Buhari

I am proud to say we gave Nigerians our best, says Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday in Abuja participated in a valedictory session of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), and met with staff of the State House, as part of a countdown on his eight years of administration, with appreciation for all the support and loyalty.

In a statement issued by Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, on Wednesday said, Buhari In his remark at the valedictory session held at the State House Council Chamber, thanked all the ministers for their steadfastness in pursuing the goals of the administration.

“I am proud to say we gave our best,’’

The President directed the ministers to tidy up their work and avoid last-minute rush that could compromise the good deeds they had done over the years.

“In the cause of our years together, ranging from our newest addition to the oldest members of the team for the past seven and half years, we have differed on many issues. I urge that we understand that those positions were for the collective good, and no one should keep grievances, or carry these differences forward.

“For those of us that will not directly be in government, I know that I am one of such, I ask that we continue to provide our support, in whatever way we can, if called upon by our great party, All Progressives Congress (APC), that gave us the platform to stand and we must continue to support it in every way we can,’’ he said.

The President attributed all the good work and goodwill received by the administration to God’s intervention, adding, “I also thank God for the strength and for keeping us together.’’

“I look forward to a great many of you, disproving that Daura has not become too distant because I am no longer Mr President.

“I will also be happy to do the many things that I have not been able to since May 29th, 2015, one of such is my favorite pastime of taking care of my cattle.

“I wish all of us the best and hope to hear good news whenever any of our names are mentioned. Thank you and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,’’ he stated.
