Mohammed commended the Nigerian Army for ensuring a thorough search which led to the recovery of the body of the deceased, described as a “national hero.”

The Chief Imam described the situation surrounding the demise of Alkali as “very unfortunate. It is very unfortunate that Alkali died this way.

However, we thank Allah that his body has been recovered.

Even though it took weeks to trace the whereabouts of late Alkali’s corpse, we thank Allah, we thank the Federal Government and we thank the Army for the dedication to find his body so that he can be buried according to Islamic rites.”

He called on the Federal Government to look into the security situation in the country, stressing that “every Nigerian has the right to live or pass through any part of the country without being harassed or intimidated by anybody or group of people.

Late U.S. Senator John McCain will be buried on Sept. 2 in Annapolis, Maryland, his office said.

Recall that McCain died at the age of 81 of brain cancer on Saturday.

“On Sept. 2 … a private memorial service will take place in the U.S. Naval Academy Chapel in Annapolis, Maryland, honouring the life of Sen. McCain.

McCain’s body will also lie at the Arizona State Capitol on Wednesday and at the U.S. Capitol on Friday, his office said.

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey, a Republican, is expected to choose McCain’s replacement after his funeral, according to the governor’s aide.

“Out of respect for the life and legacy of Sen. McCain and his family, Gov. Ducey will not be making any announcements about an appointment until after the senator is laid to rest,” Daniel Ruiz II said, as quoted by The New York Times.

McCain’s widow Cindy is among potential candidates to take the late senator’s seat until the special election in 2020, the media reported.

U.S. President Donald Trump rejected the issuance of an official White House statement, which was praising McCain along with condolences, The Washington Post said citing anonymous officials.

Instead, Trump only wrote a tweet, with White House Press Secretary, Sarah Sanders and Chief of Staff, John Kelly, speaking in favour of a full-fledged statement.

The six-term U.S. Senator and former prisoner of war in Vietnam was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2017.

On Friday, the politician’s family said he had decided to halt his treatment.

McCain was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1982, and, after serving two terms, was elected to the U.S Senate in 1986.

McCain ran as the Republican Party’s presidential nominee in the 2008 U.S. election against then-Senator Barack Obama, who won the vote.

We were together till his final hours on earth. The last thing he said to me was that he was happy everyone came around to wish him the final goodbye. We all had to shout at him not to say that; we were not pleased that he made that statement. It is only the doctor that knows what caused the nature of his death and we do not need to probe further because it would not change anything. He is already gone and we are the only ones that feel pains and emotion. We are the ones thinking about the election and how Nigeria would be better but Ras Kimono is resting now. I would miss his company a lot and I can tell you that half of me is gone with his death”.

  • Musa Asake’s family rejects CAN’s participation, assistance in late Gen Sec’s burial

Musa Asake’s family rejects CAN’s participation, assistance in late Gen Sec’s burial

The family of the late General Secretary of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Dr. Musa Asake, has written to the Christian body rejecting its offer to assist with the burial of the clergy.

The rejection came barely a day after CAN had set up a burial committee chaired by Rev. Stephen Adegbite “to organise a befitting farewell” for its late General Secretary.

Although it was not immediately clear if he had returned to Nigeria, the President of CAN, Dr. Samson Ayokunle, was said to have travelled to Philadelphia, United States of America, few hours after the death of Asake was made public.

A source in CAN stated that few hours after the death of Asake, some senior officers of CAN reportedly asked his Personal Assistant to surrender the keys to his (Asake’s) office.

Since his death, speculations had been rife that a serious succession dispute was imminent.

The family of Asake conveyed their feelings in a terse letter dated May 23 2018, and signed by the first son of the deceased, Aminchi Musa Asake.

The letter addressed to the Assistant General Secretary of CAN, Joseph Bade Daramola, was obtained on Saturday.

He said, “I received your letter dated May 22, 2018. I want to thank the Christian Association of Nigeria for reaching out to my family and wanting to commiserate with us on the passing on of my father. You have been so generous as to offer us assistance with the planning of his burial, even planning a service of songs and a commendation service. But at this point, I must ask CAN to stop, we do not need your assistance.

The family has taken an independent decision that we will be solely responsible for the burial of our father, late Rev. Dr. Musa Asake. We have already set up an independent committee and will proceed accordingly with our plans. Thank you.”

When contacted, the Special Assistant to the President of CAN, (Media and Communications), Adebayo Oladeji, directed our correspondent to Daramola, saying he had not seen the letter.

Efforts to get Daramola for response had been unsuccessful.

Asake, according to the committee set up by his family, will be buried on Friday June 8 2018.

He died in Abuja on Friday, May 11 2018 at the aged 66.

“My dear mother has passed on at age 92. Laura, Barbara, Jenna, and I are sad, but our souls are settled because we know hers was. Barbara Bush was a fabulous First Lady and a woman unlike any other who brought levity, love, and literacy to millions,” former president George W. Bush wrote in a statement Tuesday night.

“To us, she was so much more,” the statement continued. “Mom kept us on our toes and kept us laughing until the end. I’m a lucky man that Barbara Bush was my mother. Our family will miss her dearly, and we thank you all for your prayers and good wishes.”
