  • Late Sen Kanti-Bello to be buried in Katsina by 4pm

    The death has been announced of former Senate Majority Whip, Sen. Mahmud Kanti Bello at the age of 72.

    Bello, who represented Katsina North Senatorial District, died in Abuja Tuesday morning and will be buried in Katsina by 4pm.

    A family member, Mohammed Ingawa told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the funeral prayer for the deceased would, however, be held at the National Mosque, Abuja by 2 pm.

    Kanti-Bello, a prominent member of the then ruling People Democratic Party, was in the Senate from 2003 to 2011.

    He dumped the PDP and joined the All Progressive Congress before the 2015 elections but was unsuccessful in his bid to secure the party’s ticket to return to the Senate.

    The deceased had served as General Manager of Katsina Steel Rolling Mills for over 10 years and contested for the governorship of Katsina State in 1993 under the defunct Social Democratic Party.

    Mrs. Saratu Aregbesola, mother of Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola, has been buried today in Ilesha, Osun State, in accordance with Islamic rites.

    TheNewsGuru.com reports that the governor’s mother died in the early hours of Tuesday, August 1, 2017, in Ilesha.

    Aregbesola confirmed her death via his Twitter handle, where he wrote, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un, “ meaning ‘From Allah we came, to Him we shall return’.

  • Tears as Abdullahi Wammako is buried in Sokoto

    A member of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Abdullahi Wammako, (APC-Kware/Wamakko), who died on Friday has been buried according to Islamic rites.

    TheNewsGuru.com reports that Wammako, 50, died in Abuja after a brief illness.

    The Chief of Imam of Wamakko, Alhaji Shehu Ardo, led the funeral prayer conducted at the Wamakko Central Mosque, Wamakko.

    The prayer was attended by Gov. Aminu Tambuwal, his predecessor, Sen. Aliyu Wamakko, the National Vice-Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), North-West, Alhaji Inuwa Abdulkadir, members of the National and State Assemblies and the state executive council members.

    Until his death, Wammako was the Vice-Chairman, House Committee on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA).

    He was the Yariman Abdullahi Wammako and has been representing his constituency in the house since 2011.

    Wammako, a younger brother to Sen. Aliyu Wamakko (APC-Sokoto State), is survived by a wife and five children.

    TheNewsGuru.com reports that Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara on Friday while expressing his shock over the late lawmaker’s death said: “Hon Wamakko was a dedicated lawmaker who had the progress of Kware/Wamakko federal constituency, Sokoto State and the entire Nigeria at heart. As we mourn his painful untimely departure, I pray that God will bring solace to his family who will miss him the most and grant him eternal rest”.

    The ancient town of Ila Orangun, Osun State played host to who is who in Nigeria’s political landscape especially amongst the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, chieftains as wife of former interim National Chairman (Chief Bisi Akande) of the party, Madam Omowunmi Akande is buried.

    TheNewsGuru.com reports that the late Mrs. Omowunmi Akande died on Tuesday at the age of 73 after a brief illness.

    Speaking at the burial ceremony, Acting President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo urged Nigerians to support the ideals of peace and unity, which many great leaders stood for.

    Our strength as a nation lies in our diversity and size. Many states in Nigeria are far bigger than many nations of Africa.

    The economy of Lagos State, for instance, is six times that of Rwanda. We must learn to stand together and work together. This is the great message of This is the great message of Mr. President,” he said.

    TheNewsGuru.com reports that President Muhammadu Buhari had earlier called Chief Akande to commiserate with him and also sent a condolence letter which was delivered by a presidential delegation comprising ministers led by the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari.

    The burial was preceded by an Islamic prayer held on the open field opposite Akande’s residence.

    Islamic cleric Mohammed Jamiu admonished political leaders to use their positions to help the poor.

    He said politicians should always remember that God gives power to whoever He chooses, adding that if they failed to bring succour to the less-privileged, God’s mercy would elude them.

    Osinbajo said he was with President Muhammadu Buhari in London on Tuesday when he recieved the news of Mrs. Akande’s death.

    He said President Buhari was touched by the news, and quoted him as saying “How will baba (Chief Bisi Akande) cope now?”

     

    In his words: “Mama’s loyalty to baba was unequalled. She and baba raised their children well. We are happy to see the children she left behind doing well. Mama, no doubt, has left a good legacy behind. She lived a life we are happy to remember with joy. We are celebrating the life of this great woman.”

    Turning to Akande, Osinbajo said Buhari “respects you because you don’t lie.”

    Baba (Akande) has displayed courage many times, even, it is rough politically, but while we are wondering how baba will cope this time, he has shown tremendous courage again. Baba will always remain a beacon of light to us. So thank you for being a light.”

    Among the dignitaries at the event was APC stalwart Asiwaju Bola Tinubu who the acting president hailed as “a visionary”

    I don’t need your money, Obiano tells politicians sending contributions for mum’s burial

    Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has said he did not place any financial request to anyone for the burial of his late mother insisting that whoever intends making such donations should send such to a foundation in honour of the matriarch.

    TheNewsGuru.com reports that Late Madam Christiana Obiano died on Friday, June 2nd at the age of 90 years after a brief illness. She will be buried on Thursday, July 20 in Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area of the state.

    The governor said this in a press release signed by the Commissioner for Information, Communication and Strategy in the state, Mr Tony Nnacheta. He however advised those who are bent on making donations to the burial to rather donate such monies to a foundation in honour of the matriarch.

    The release also stated that rather than place condolence messages in the media, friends and supporters should consider donating such money to the Christy Obiano Foundation for the poor, in fulfillment of her last wish.

    Born into the Azodo Manafa family of Eziagulu village in Aguleri, Mrs Christiana Obiano embraced Christianity at a very young age and grew up to become one of the major pillars in her local parish of the Catholic Church.

    Mrs Obiano was famous for her generosity and accommodating disposition which earned her several nicknames including names like Mother-of-the-poor.”

    She was married to late Philip Onuorah Obiano. The marriage is blessed with four children, namely Willie, Cyril, Queen and Evaristus.

    Her husband passed away in November 1978 at the age of 57.

    She assumed control of the family which she supported with the proceeds from her business of selling fish at the Ose-Okwuodu Market in Onitsha.

    Emotions as Remi Surutu’s daughter gets buried[Pictures]

    On a rainy Thursday morning friends and family of Remi Surutu were gathered to finally lay to rest, Ayomikun, daughter of Nollywood actress Remi Surutu who died on July 2nd after a protracted battle with sickle cell anaemia.

    Ayomikun was given an intimate burial at the Ebony Vault, Ikoyi. The funeral was solemn and melancholy as the mourners were seen comforting each other.

    Remi Surutu was not permitted to attend the burial according to cultural demands but she was represented by her colleagues like Busola Oke, Yomi Fabiyi, Iyabo Ojo, Ronke Oshodi-Oke and others.

     

    “Rest in Peace my only sister. I love you now and forever. We were just two and now you left me with mum. I’m sure you are in a better place now. I love you Ayomikun Ileriayo Motunrayo Omotanwa mi .Be my sister again in the next life” Ayomikun’s sister lamented when she was being laid to rest.

    The deceased reportedly passed on at 21. May her soul rest in peace.

    Daughter of Nollywood actress, Remi Surutu whose life was cut short after a long-term battle with sickle cell will be buried on Thursday, July 6, 2017. Ayo’s remains will be entombed at Ebony vaults Ikoyi, Lagos.

    Ayo gave her last breath on Sunday, July 2nd and condolences have continued to pour in as friends and family of the deceased mourn her

    A representative of Remi Surutu stated that despite the sad occurrence, the mother is trying to accept it in good fate. ”She is doing fine.

    Remi Oshodi Surutu, lost Ayo, her first daughter after a sickle cell crisis at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).

    Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo in her condolence message said:” A beautiful young soul gone too soon. I do not have the right words to say to you, nothing we say can comfort you, it’s indeed a great loss and I am deeply so sorry, it’s only God that can comfort you. Aunty, you have to be strong for her other siblings “.

    Delta State born musician, Tony Grey who passed on at the age of 70 in the early hours of Monday April 10th, 2017 will be buried on June 30th after a brief lying in state that will take place at his residence that same day from 9.00am.

    The respected musician who started his career in early 70s kept night life alive in the rich oil city of Warri. Tony Grey is popular for hit songs like She is my love, My message and Come back love.He was the in- house musician at Lido Nite Club Warri in the early 70s. Lido was the hub of night clubbing in Old Bendel State. The sprawling oil city at that time attracted fun lovers from far and near especially Benin, Auchi, Agbor and many others all anchoring at Lido where Tony grey held sway.

    Fondly called Ozimba , the music legend once said in an interview how Warri lost her night life to civil unrests. According to him: “Between the late 1960s and early 1980s, Warri was one of the hottest entertainment cities in the country. But we lost everything to the violent political struggles and civil unrests that swept through the city in recent time”

    Grey released his first album in 1969 and called it Sparking Jet.

  • Drama as Pastor Oyedepo hires bouncers to stop wife’s burial in Kwara

    An Abuja based pastor of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Jacob Oyedepo over the weekend allegedly hired bouncers to disperse relatives and friends who had gathered to bury his late wife in Kwara State.

    The pastor’s late wife, Mrs. Christiana Adetola Oyedepo was to be buried on a property she was said to have developed before her untimely death.

    Mrs. Oyedepo (nee Abu) died on May 2, 2017 after a sickness that was said to have lasted for about three months. She was aged 45 years.

    According to New Telegraph, the incident sent tongues wagging as to why a cleric would take such a step over a woman that was married to him for 17 years and had four kids before she died.

    According to the report, the pastor had attempted to sell the uncompleted property and was concerned that burying his wife on the site would discourage prospective buyers from the property.

    Family members claimed that the deceased had embarked on the project with loans obtained from a cooperative society and was still servicing the loan when she died.

    The deceased was said to have been a teacher in one of the public schools in the state and had developed the property on her own.

    It was gathered that their marriage had been rocked by allegations of maltreatment allegedly by the cleric but that the deceased had kept it under wrap to prevent public ridicule.

    Family and friends of the late actress, Moji Olaiya thronged the Ikoyi Ebony Vaults venue of Olaiya’s burial earlier today.

    Her body had arrived Muritala Mohammed airport in Lagos from Canada on Tuesday and has now been buried at the Ikoyi cemetery according to Islamic rites. Men dressed in black kaftan carried her remains which was covered in a white cloth and placed in a wooden see-through box.

     

    Her body was met by mourners who filled the hall to capacity and wept as they saw her casket arrive.

    Adunoluwa, Moji Olaiya’s 18-year-old daughter was also comforted by family members, Nollywood actor, Muyiwa Ademola and other friends of her late mother. Moji Olaiya died on May 18, 2017, two months after she was delivered of a baby girl in Canada.
