    Shonekan to be honoured with 21-artillery-gun salute – Army

    The Nigerian Army (NA), 81 Division, on Thursday said that there would be a 21-artillery-gun salute to honour the late Chief Ernest Shonekan, a former head of the Interim National Govetnment (ING) on Friday.

    The Division’s spokesperson, Maj. Olaniyi Osoba, in a signed statement said that the salutation would hold at Ebony Vaults and Garden, Ikoyi, Lagos State.

    Shonekan died on Jan.11 at the age of 85 years.

    Shonekan served as head of ING from Aug. 26, 1993 to 17 Nov. 17, 1993.

    Osoba said that the members of the general public who reside and work around Ikoyi should not panic on hearing the gunshot salute.

    “Especially, those around the Ebony Vaults and Garden are not to panic but go about their normal businesses as all necessary safety measures had been put in place,” he said.

    Shonekan’s burial: Lagos to divert traffic at Marina

    The Lagos State Government says it will be diverting traffic along Inner Marina to Outer Marina by Oando Filling Station from 5.00a.m. till 6.00p.m. on Friday due to the Burial Service of the Late former Head of Interim Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan.

    The state Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Frederic Oladeinde, made the disclosure in a statement signed on Friday in Lagos.

    Oladeinde explained that all adjoining and feeder roads leading to inner Marina road to Nitel building would be cordon off.

    He advised motorists to utilise JK Randle street through Force road to connect Broad street and continue their journey as inner Marina road/Odunlami Street from Outer Marina road would be barred from vehicular movement.

    In the same vein, Oladeinde stated that motorists descending CMS Bridge to Cathedral Church would be temporarily diverted to UBA roundabout or Apongbon for onward navigation to other inner parts of Lagos Island to connect their destinations.

    The transport commissioner assured that security and law enforcement agencies would be deployed to all strategic junctions/intersections and black spots to reduce delays and ensure security of lives and property both along the routes leading to the venue and alternative routes highlighted.

    Oladeinde extended the appreciation of the Mr Governor to the citizenry for their patience and understanding, adding that the state government sincerely appeals to the Citizenry for any inconvenience the diversion may cause.

    Alao-Akala: Burial rites of Fmr Oyo Gov commences on Valentine’s day

    The burial rites of former Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala will commence on February 14 which fell on Valentine’s day as he will be finally laid to rest on February 18, 2022.

    TheNewsGuru.com, (TNG) recalls that Otunba Alao- Akala had died on January 12, 2022, at the age of 71.

    In a statement released by his family, activities for the burial of Alao-Akala’s remains will commence on February 14, 2022 with tributes by the Oyo State political class.

    A praise night will be held for the Ogbomoso born-politician on Tuesday at his residence in Ogbomoso.

    While on Wednesday will be for his lying-in-state at the Oyo State Government House.

    A cultural display and parade will be held in his honour on Thursday at his residence in Ogbomosho to be followed by a Christian wake in the evening of the same day.

    Funeral service holds on Friday, February 18, 2022 at Beulah Baptist Conference ground Ogbomosho after which his body will be interred at his residence Opadoyin Akala Residence, Ogbomosho.

    Adebayo was born on June 3, 1950, at Ogbomoso in the Ogbomoso North Local Government Area of Oyo State.

    Alao-Akala was the Governor of Oyo state between 2007 and 2011.

    He was also a deputy to Former Governor Rasheed Ladoja.

    Dowen College: Police conclude autopsy, release Sylvester Oromoni’s body for burial

    The Lagos State Police Command on Friday said it had released the remains of Sylvester Oromoni, the Dowen College, Lagos student allegedly bullied to death, to his family for burial.

    Spokesperson for the command, Adekunle Ajisebutu, said the release followed the conclusion of autopsy on the corpse to ascertain the cause and nature of death.

    But the result of the autopsy is yet to be released while police investigation continues.

    TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that the story of 12-year-old Sylvester went viral earlier this month after a family member went on social media to demand justice. In a series of Tweets, the family member, with handle @Perrisonoromoni said Sylvester was assaulted by some senior students pf Dowen College. He added that Sylvester died after sustaining multiple internal injuries from being tortured and bullied.

    Also, in a video released online by the family member, Oromoni jr was seen writhing in pain. His teeth were stained dark red with blood. His legs were swollen, and his belly was bloated.

    The Management of Dowen College in a statement claimed that Sylvester was injured while playing football. In another statement, they assured that they will cooperate with authorities to investigate the incident.

    The Lagos State Government through the Ministry of Education paid an inquiry visit to the college and subsequently shut it down indefinitely.

    Adesola Omidina, son of the late Nigerian comic actor, Baba Suwe, has announced the burial arrangements of his father who died on Monday.

    The young Omidina took to his Instagram page to announce that his father’s interment would hold on Thursday, November 25, 2021.

    In a statement e-signed by Adesola, on behalf of the family, the interment will commence at the deceased residence at 26, Oluwatimiro Street, Ewu Elepe Bustop, Ijede Road, Ikorodu, Lagos, by 10 am prompt.

    Adesola also said that the final funeral ceremony for his 63-year-old deceased father would be announced at a later time.

    The statement revealed that Baba Suwe is survived by children, grandchildren, his aged mother, and other family members.

    Born Babatunde Omidina, Baba Suwe became popular after he featured in Iru Esin, produced by Olaiya Igwe in 1997. He also featured in and produced several Nigerian movies such as Baba Jaiye Jaiye, a movie that featured Funke Akindele and Femi Adebayo.

    In 2011, he was accused of cocaine trafficking by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, an allegation that was described as false and defamatory by the ruling of the Lagos State High Court.

    Babatunde Omidina, popularly known as Baba Suwe will be buried today according to Muslim rites.

    The grave has already been dug as at Tuesday morning, TheNewsGuru gathered.

    The family also opened condolence register beside the grave for visitors.

    Though Baba Suwe is a Muslim, but reports reveal that some members of the family who are not based in Lagos are asking that the burial be delayed till they arrive.

    Thousands of Muslims attended the funeral of late Alhaji Sani Dangote, the Deputy President, Dangote Group of Companies, held in Kano on Wednesday.

    The funeral prayer, conducted at the palace of the Emir of Kano at about 11a.m., was led by Imam Sani Muhammad.

    The Imam prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the sins of the deceased and grant him paradise.

    The funeral prayer was attended by Senate President, Ahmad Lawal, Aviation Minister, Hadi Sirika, Presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje and Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado-Bayero.

    Others were Borno Governor, Babagana Zulum, Sen. Bukola Saraki, Director General, Department of State Services, Yusuf Magaji-Bichi, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Alhaji Abdussamad Isyaka-Rabiu and captains of industries from within outside the country, among others.

    The deceased was buried at Sarari graveyard, where deceased members of Dantata family are buried.

    Sheikh Tijjani Bala-Kalarawi, who led prayers after the burial, described the deceased as a humble, generous and nice gentleman during his lifetime.

    He stressed the need for people to judge themselves based on their deeds everyday before going to bed, to enable them do more good deeds while alive.

    An unknown heavily armed group, identified as “The Angry Vipers”, has threatened to attack Anambra-born businessman and socialite, Obi Cubana, due to the presence of Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, at his mother’s burial.

    The lavish burial, which was held at Oba, Anambra State in July 2021, was an extravagant display of wealth as Obi Cubana buried his mother in grand style.

    Reacting to the presence of Kyari at the burial, the armed group noted that Obi Cubana will soon hear from them.

    In a video that has gone viral, The Angry Vipers said, “To the kings and chiefs in our land, you have decided to reduce yourselves to less than used sanitary pads. You are now being toiled about by uncircumcised Fulanis due to your idiocy and bribery. We, the Angry Vipers, are giving you 21 days to leave our land unless Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is released.

    “For Obi Cubana and co. who are closely working with the killers of our youths, you and your crew made sure that Abba Kyari returned to Anambra State, you will hear from us. From now onwards, we will put a stop to any form of tax directed to markets, road transports, such as bikes, vehicles and sundry, within the Biafra land. Henceforth, it shall be bloody, all hell shall be let loose. This very press statement is irrevocable.”

    Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing collapsed during the burial of her late mother.

    The incident occurred on Saturday, October 16, 2021.

    As her mum’s body was being taken to her final resting place, Nkechi passed out.

    She was, however, resuscitated by her friends and family.

    The burial ceremony was attended by close friends and family members of the actress. Celebrities like Toyin Abraham, Mercy Aigbe, Iyabo Ojo and others attended the burial ceremony.

    Her fans and friends have continued to comfort the amiable actress.

    Media personality, Honey Ojukwu wrote: “Keep moving…it has happened sis. Nothing is going to bring her back. Nothing brought mum back after all the daily tears! Still on it! Mortuary visitations ! Nk please keep moving”.

    Tears flowed uncontrollably as the step mother of former Governor of Edo State, Senator (Professor) Oserheimen Osunbor, Mama Grace Osunbor (nee Ehiguese) was laid to rest in Iruekpen, Edo State at the weekend.

    Osunbor led all his siblings to the graveyard at the St Paul’s Anglican Church, Iruekpen in Esan West Local Government in Edo State as children of the deceased, Mrs Efe Ovuakporie, Comrade Idahoise Osunbor, Mrs Okama Iriase, Mrs Ejemen Inegbonoise, Mrs Iyobor Timothy, Pastor Engr Abraham Odigie Osunbor and Geologist Jayjay Osunbor perform the funeral rites.

    Mama Osunbor is also the mother inlaw of TheNewsGuru.com, (TNG) Regional Editor, Emman Ovuakporie.
