[Devotional] IN HIS PRESENCE: Do business till I come

    Read: Luke 19:11-27

    Meditation verse:

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name  of the Father and of the son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all  things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the  end of the age” (Matt 28: 19-20).

The business of soul winning is dear to God’s heart and today’s reading is a  beautiful illustration of God’s expectation and reward system in His soul winning  enterprise. Before the nobleman’s departure, he gave each of his ten servants  money and commanded them to trade with it while he was away. All ten  servants but one traded with their money and yielded profit(s). The unprofitable  servant was punished and referred to as a “wicked servant”.

God has given you excellent resources; talents, spiritual gifts, money, and time.  He expects you to utilize them in winning souls for Him and expanding His  kingdom. Before His departure from earth, Jesus Christ commanded you to do  business for Him until He returns, and He will ask you to give account of your  stewardship at His second coming. “Blessed is that servant whom his master,  when he comes, will find so doing. Assuredly, I say to you that he will make him  ruler over all his goods. But if that evil servant says in his heart, ‘my master is  delaying his coming’ and begins to (do otherwise), the master of that servant will  come on a day when he is not looking for him and at an hour that he is not

aware of, and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the  hypocrites” (Mathew 24: 46-51)

The bible declares that he who wins souls is wise. You must be a witness for  Christ wherever you are and in whatever you do. Technology and digitalization  have made soul winning easy. Use your social media handles to be a witness for  Christ, instead of posting things that add no value. You are the light of this world.  You are called to be faithful to this course until Christ comes to take you home, where you will reign with Him in eternity. Let Him find you doing so when He  comes.

  • These 4 tech trends will transform business this decade

These 4 tech trends will transform business this decade

The business world has changed a lot in the last year. As companies moved away from Covid-19 restrictions, they found that a reliance on remote working and online content had grown dramatically, fuelling technological change in the process.

With 2023 on the horizon, we’re about to see these changes accelerate, with new AI- and VR-powered tools at the forefront of it.

Business leaders and workers could do a lot worse than take note of the following changes, that look set to shape the business world for years to come.

    An expansion of hybrid workspaces

Hit by the Great Resignation, a term coined by a UK academic to describe the huge numbers of workers leaving their job due to the pandemic, companies have had to adjust their HR methods.
No longer happy to work in confined office spaces, employees expect to have the option to work from home at least some of the time. A Boston Consulting Group survey of 209,000 workers in 190 countries found that 89% of people wanted the work-from-home option, forcing companies to move towards hybrid workforces.

This will involve moulding teams based on their agility, rather than location. No longer dependent on where their office is, workers will be assigned tasks according to how well they are suited to them and how efficient they can carry them out.

‘On-demand’ workforces could be a product of this new model. With fewer workers based in an office full-time, there will be more emphasis on employing freelancers for specific projects, rather than relying on a core workforce.

    Artificial Intelligence

We’ve seen how AI has the power to transform how we do business with sophisticated avatars and chatbots opening up new ways of customer communication, but the technology will also help companies set up new barriers of defence against cyber-attacks.

Internet entities in the financial and entertainment sectors that are most vulnerable to attacks already have significant security measures in place. Take a bank, for example. Modern security methods make it very difficult for a hacker to steal sensitive information. The best online casinos, too, almost always put players through Know-Your-Customer (KYC) security measures.

However, AI will allow them to make these security breaches virtually impossible.

Pattern recognition and predictive analytics will be crucial in identifying anomalies in the early stages and averting large-scale data breaches in the future. It will also be possible to learn and analyse common behavioural patterns between the attacks and stop criminals before irrecoverable damage is done.

    Ambient Experience

Ever since the start of widespread Internet use around 20 years ago, human-machine interaction has generally been a 2D process. We type something into a keyboard and see the result on a screen.

Ambient experience is set to replace that. Offering a world behind the glass of a computer screen, it’s set to provide a 3D experience, which we have referred to as Virtual Reality (VR) until now. Ambient experience, though, is a type of unlimited reality: businesses will rely on it to provide training, team building, and remote operations.

The benefits of this will be immense. Staff won’t all have to be in the same place to reap the rewards of these exercises, virtual meetings will have the look and feel of a physical encounter, while workers will be able to operate vehicles and tools remotely.

The next steps may lead to super-simplified communication, where a simple look or gesture could signal the user’s intent and start an exchange of business information. It could also lead to the first smart cities, where participants can carry out complex tasks remotely, without any need for logins or activation steps.

    Quantum Technologies

Quantum technologies will soon start to take up bigger roles in day-to-day business life. Previously, quantum technology was in the domain of physicists, however, a race to find ways to use it commercially has started among corporations, governments, and start-ups.

First, unprecedented sets of data can be processed by quantum computers to complete hugely complex tasks in minutes, rather than in years, as would be the case of a conventional computer.

In communication, hyper-sensitive quantum technology will detect hacking attempts immediately, allowing businesses to upgrade their online security at the click of a button.

In the physical world, quantum sensing devices are already in place in some countries. These are super sophisticated tools that are more responsive and more accurate than old-fashioned sensors, and can immeasurably improve services in energy, transportation, and healthcare.

While not even the top scientists know the full potential of quantum technology, they do know that it’s here to stay in a business world fit for the 21st century.

  • Business stopped me from being in labour room with wife- Harrysong

Business stopped me from being in labour room with wife- Harrysong

Reggae Blues crooner, Harrison Okiri popularly known as Harrysong, became a father on Thursday, December 9, 2021, when his wife, Alex, gave birth to a baby girl in faraway Malta while he was in Nigeria.

Many thought the singer would be with his wife in the labour room but he said that he had some business to handle in Nigeria.

In his words: “My wife is in Malta and that was where she had our beautiful daughter. But, I am in Nigeria at the moment to handle my business. I also have shows back home. I feel blessed being a father. I am practically the happiest man right now.”

Asked whether fatherhood would alter some things about him, the singer said, “I am just very excited about it but I don’t know if being a father would change anything about me until I experience it. What I know is that I am so excited and I cannot wait to hold my child, look into her eyes and know what it actually feels like to be a father”.

My company employed this driver on the 31st of August after the former driver took one way on Lekki Epe way and LASTMA impounded my van.I know the struggle I went through to get my van back. A new driver was employed and I assumed everything was okay until I got a mail from the management of the property I stay in, thanking me for my stay and wanting to have a conversation with me”, she wrote in part.

Speaking further, she recounted how the new driver she employed connived with the gateman of the building she is resident in to steal fuel.

Skit makers can’t run comedians out of business –Bash comedian

Popular comedian and emcee, Bashiru Ahmed Adekunle better known as Bash has stated that skit makers cannot run comedians out of business. The Shomolu born entertainer in a chat with The Nation said: “We have witnessed some drastic changes in the comedy industry but I don’t think the online skit makers can give stand-up comedians a run for their money because we are doing different genres of comedy. For example, outside Africa, we have people like Mr. Bean, who is not a standup comedian and we have people like Kevin Hart, Dave Chappelle that are standup comedians but the end product is to make people laugh but basically we are doing two different things so I don’t think there’s any need for a run. If you want a standup comedian you know what to do but if you want a skit maker, a content provider, we are two different people. You don’t expect Broda Shaggi to be competing with Basketmouth because they are doing two genres of comedy so there is no competition at all”.

Speaking further, Bash noted that he doesn’t see any competition between skit makers and comedians.

“It is very easy for a standup comedian to be a skit maker though it’s all about ideas but it is very hard for skit makers to be standup comedian. I always told people that it is one of the hardest jobs in the world, so I don’t see any competition. The environment is so big for everyone to perform”.

  • Running a business in Nigeria is frustrating– Wofai Fada

Running a business in Nigeria is frustrating– Wofai Fada

Popular actress, Wofai Ewa known as Wofai Fada has lamented the cost of running a business in Nigeria.

Wofai who owns a restaurant took to Instagram on Thursday lamenting the increase in prices of food items and cooking gas.

Expressing her irritation, Wofai said running a business is tiring and frustrating and expenses are getting out of hand.

Her post read: The cost of things in this country is not even funny anymore. Stockfish, gas, palm oil and the list goes on.

“Let me not talk about diesel, that’s a topic for another day.

“Running a business in this country is so tiring and frustrating.”

TheNewsGuru recalls that the comic actress in an interview had said she wants peace and good health, not just money.

The former ‘Flatmates’ actress said: “The past four years have been fun. I also have like five hustles. This is because there are a lot of bills to pay. This made me open a restaurant, where I have over 30 staff working with me. The pressure of my job and my personal business started to take its toll on me so much that it started to affect my mental health. They gave me a day off onset but that was not even enough for me. I asked for two days but I knew that I was asking for too much, so they let me go. I was heartbroken because the Sandra character was loved by viewers, I also miss being Sandra. It was not a deliberate move but I just had to leave the show. I have heard so many false stories about it but I kept my peace. My priority is not money, I just want peace and good health and I don’t want anything to disrupt it. People that have it all figured out still pass on. I also feel that I may still be back on the show in the nearest future.”

  • [Devotional] IN HIS PRESENCE: Kingdom principles from business success

    Oke Chinye

    Read: PSALM 127:1-5
    Meditation verse:

“Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain” (Psalm 127:1).
Make it a habit of spending time in God’s presence each morning and let the Holy Spirit show you how to handle the business of the day. “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you (John 14:26). The Holy Spirit is the greatest teacher; He can show you what business decisions to take and which to avoid. He can put in your heart plans that will expand your business and individuals to reach out to. He can lead you to people who will open doors of opportunity for you. But you need to be still to hear Him.

Consistently update your skills. “If the ax is dull, and he does not sharpen its edge, then he must exert more strength; but wisdom (to sharpen the axe) helps him succeed (with less effort)” (Ecclesiastes 10:10, amp). The world of business is not static. You need to keep unlearning and relearning business skills, practices, and knowledge.
Create a reputation of excellence and consistently deliver value. “Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; He will not stand before unknown men. (Proverbs 22:29)

Delay gratification and reward until the business grows. Keep plowing back the profits, no matter how little. Proverbs 24:27 says “Prepare your work outside and get it ready for yourself in the field; afterwards build your house and establish a home” (Amp). Allow your business to grow before dipping your hands into its coffers for frivolous spending.

Lastly, let God be the foundation of your business. Make business decisions, plans and choices based on His word. Avoid distasteful and worldly practices. Psalm 127:1 says, unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build. Do not make the mistake of leaving God out of your business.
