    Businessman docked for allegedly defiling minor

    A 35-year-old businessman, Tizhe Ayuba, was on Monday brought before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly inserting his fingers into a six-year-old girl’s private part.

    Ayuba, whose address was not provided, is facing a charge of defilement.

    The prosecutor, Sgt. Peace Chukwudi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 8, at 5:00p.m, at Aro Community, Lekki, Lagos.

    She said that the accused unlawfully defiled the girl by fingering her private part.

    The offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 137 provides life imprisonment for offenders.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    In his ruling, the Magistrate, Mr R. O. Davies, remanded the accused in Ikoyi Prison and ordered that the case file be duplicated and sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.

    Davis adjourned the case until June 13 for DPP’s advice.

  • Gunmen kill Syrian businessman, abduct son in Kano

    Gunmen believed to be kidnappers on Tuesday killed a Syrian businessman, Ahmed Abu Areeda and abducted one of his sons, Muhammad Ahmed.

    The incident happened in Kano.

    Eyewitnesses said Areeda was killed on Tuesday when he went to the Red Cross office on Hospital road to pick his car. He went with two of his sons.

    He closed his shop about 8 pm and went to pick his car at the Red Cross office compound. But unfortunately, the gunmen were waiting for him in a green Peugeot with tinted glass.

    Some of them followed him into the compound, shot him and abducted one of his sons.”

    The second son was said to have ran to the shop to inform their neighbours.

    Police spokesman Magaji Musa Majia, who confirmed the incident, said: “It was a case of suspected kidnappers, who came to abduct a boy and in the process killed his father.”

    Majia said no arrest had been made, adding that the whereabouts of the abducted boy is still unknown.

    He added that investigation has begun.

    Ahmadu Chanchangi, foremost businessman, laid to rest in Kaduna

    The remains of Alhaji Ahmadu Chanchangi, a foremost businessman and philanthropist was on Wednesday (today) buried in Kaduna.

    Thousands of people attended the funeral prayers of the 82-year-old Chanchangi, who died after a protracted illness.

    The funeral prayer was led by Dr Ahmad Gumi before the deceased was buried at the Tudun-Wada Cemetery in Kaduna.

    The deceased who owned chains of businesses including Chanchangi Airlines, is survived by two wives and 33 children.

    Among the children is Rufai Ahmed-Chanchangi, a member of the House of Representatives.

    TheNewsGuru.com reports that the late Chanchangi died on Wednesday morning.

    TheNewsGuru.com dignitaries that graced the funeral prayer are Sen. Ahmed Makarfi, factional Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, the immediate past Governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Murkhtar Yero and Alhaji Sani Dauda, Chairman Peugeot Automobile.
