Ahead 2023 General election campaigns the leadership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has warmed her members against indulging in campaigning for candidates of other political parties under whatever guise.

The warning which was widely circulated, copy of which was made available to journalists in Awka from the Anambra State chairman of APGA, Sir Nobert Obi, and to all the State working committee members and all the Local government area and Ward chairmen of the party was dated Aug 18, 2022 ref APGA/AN/08/60.

The chairman said that his attention had been drawn to several unwholesome activities of certain members of the party (APGA) who are campaigning for candidates of other political parties.

He therefore noted that, “You may wish to know that it is wrong for any member to campaign, solicit votes, or attend any activity organized by other political parties or their candidates other than our great party APGA.

“Such development is considered anti-party activity and an act of indiscipline in breach of Article 21, General Code of Conduct of our great party.

“There are several cases of members belonging to WhatsApp, Facebook and other social media platforms that promote and campaign for candidates of other political parties. Not a few even go as far as sharing posts that promote candidates who are not APGA members”, the chairman further pointed out.

The Chairman emphasized that such action is inimical to the overall interest of APGA which has the intention to sweep the 2023 general elections especially in Anambra’s State where the party has fielded candidates for all the National and State Assembly elections.

Sir Nobert declared that such activity shall be visited with severe disciplinary action as enunciated in Sec 22 of APGA Constitution.

Buhari is not corrupt, I don’t regret campaigning for him – Jide Kosoko

Revered actor, Jide Kosoko, has averred that he does not regret campaigning for President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.

Kosoko said although he is dissatisfied with some of the actions of the President, he can’t state that Buhari is totally bad.

According to him, Nigerians are just doing trip and error when it comes to choosing its President.

He said “Professor Wole Soyinka was appointed the founding Corps Marshall of the FRSC, he ran away, he could not stand it. So, tell me if you are able to confirm to me that Jide Kosoko is the best to govern us, then I will follow you. But nobody knows, we are all making trial and error.”

The actor also noted that so many things are responsible for the situation in Nigeria.

“I cannot speak for the government but I can’t say Buhari’s government is totally bad but I’m disappointed in some of his actions.

“Buhari knows that discipline is his watchword, I wanted to believe him then, but he should know that in getting a corrupt-free society you would face quite a lot of antagonism.”

“I believe Buhari and personally, he is not corrupt, but so many things are still going on. This means that prompt action must be taken to ensure that those things stop in the country,” Kosoko told Premium Times

Diri threatens to sack aides involved in campaigns before 2023

Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State on Wednesday swore in two new Special Advisers.

He warned his political appointees against premature politicking ahead of the 2023 general elections, saying he would not hesitate to sack any of them found wanting.

Diri gave the warning before the beginning of the weekly State Executive Council meeting in Government House, Yenagoa.

Those sworn-in include Alabo Ozubide (Legal Matters) and Onumah Johnson (Non-Indigenes).

This was contained in a statement on Wednesday titled, ‘Resign or be sacked, Gov Diri warns appointees over early politicking,’ issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Daniel Alabrah.

The statement quoted him as saying, “I find it very difficult to believe that appointees in this government have already started open politicking.

“Yes, it is the constitutional right of anybody to contest but even the Bible tells us that there is time for everything. At this time, we are trying to stamp our feet to meet up our campaign promises to our people.

“I hereby caution all those involved to immediately withdraw. If you are prepared to continue with this government, you must listen to the music of this administration. We are not prepared to start politicking this year.”

MI shows support for Igbos, creates #IAmIgboToo campaign

Nigerian rapper, Jude Abaga popularly known as MI, has declared his support for people from the South-Eastern region of Nigeria better known as ‘Igbos’

The popular rapper on Wednesday took to Twitter to show love and support for Igbos, calling on other Nigerians to do the same as he started the #IAmIgboToo campaign.

This development comes shortly after the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari sent a warning that was seen as a threat to the Igbos who had celebrated their counterparts that died during the Nigerian Civil War of 1967-1970.

The President, in a now-deleted tweet, had written, “Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War. Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand.”

Reacting to the tweet, MI posted a video with the caption, “The narrative that ‘Nigeria hates Igbo people’ is an outdated context that will leave with the old and bitter generation. Today let us stand with our Igbo family and say #IAmIgboToo.”

In the video, he said, “I can’t imagine being an Igbo citizen and seeing those tweets yesterday. I can’t imagine how it would have made them feel.

“So, I thought it could be beautiful today if we rally round organically on Twitter. Just post videos and messages on our timeline to tell our Igbo brothers and sisters that we are one and that we are Igbo too.”

As of the time of the report, the #IAmIgboToo campaign has countless impressions.

VIDEO: Wike joins #EndSARS protest in PH, says ‘I initiated campaign against SARS in Nigeria’

Governor Nyesom Wike on Tuesday made a U-Turn on his statement on Monday night banning the #EndSARS protests in the state.

Unfazed by his ban, thousands of the protesters on Tuesday morning stormed the Government House in Port Harcourt demanding that the governor addressed them.

After over three hours of wait protesters, the governor later joined the protesters and called for the total reform of the Nigeria Police Force.

Wike while addressing the protesters said though he was not in support of the Tuesday protest, he noted that no governor in the country had protested against the security outfit as he has done.

He said, “I never supported us to be here. I took an oath to protect the lives and property of people of the state. The blood of Rivers of people matters to me.

“Rivers State has suffered in the hands of SARS. When we raised the alarm of SARS activities, they did not give attention but it has now happened in other places.

“No governor in this country can say they have challenged SARS the way we have done. When there was so much kidnapping in this state, I raised an alarm to the federal government.

“I am the only governor that has come out to start end SARS protest. No other state. We have lost so many people in this state to SARS. No state supported us. SARS has killed our people a lot,” he stated.

Edo poll: Why I snubbed Ize-Iyamu, APC during campaigns – Oyegun

A former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chief John Odigie-Oyegun has explained why he didn’t campaign for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its Edo governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu in the just-concluded contest.

Ize-Iyamu lost to Governor Godwin Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with many APC chieftains, including Odigie-Iyamu, believed to have worked against him.

He said he stayed away despite being a member of the National Campaign Council because he never wanted to be part of ‘illegality’.

He spoke with reporters at his Benin residence.

The ex-Edo Governor said: “I am a man of conscience. I am a strong believer in justice and fair play.

“I am a strong believer that, when the rules of an association you belong have been so flagrantly disregarded, put aside and not complied with, then you have to go back to your conscience to say, can I support what has happened? Can I not support what has happened? I cannot support injustice.

“Your loyalty in life should be what is right, that is principle. Every human being must live for something. If you are ready to kill a man you know did not commit a crime, then something is wrong with you.

“Even in the family, if a family member commits a crime, he has to agree that he has committed the crime. When you start shouting no, he has done nothing wrong, then something is wrong with you. So, it was a basic issue of principle, it is a basic issue of conscience.”

  • US Poll: Trump’s campaign runs out of funds

US Poll: Trump’s campaign runs out of funds

U.S. President Donald Trump campaign machine is in the throes of a cash crunch, forcing it to pull back television advertising in some crucial states.

A flustered Trump will now embark on a heavier fundraising schedule in coming weeks, seeking money from small and big donors, a strategy that his Democratic rival Joe Biden has been using.

Trump’s campaign started the year with more than 10 times as much money as Democratic rival Joe Biden.

But to the alarm of some Republican donors, the former vice president closed the gap as Democratic donors consolidated behind him and the Trump campaign burned through its cash more quickly.

Biden, who leads Trump in most national and battleground state polling ahead of the Nov. 3 election, had about $99 million in the bank to Trump’s $121 million by the end of July, according to disclosures by each side’s campaign.

But in August, Biden outraised Trump nearly $365 million to $210 million in August.

“I am flabbergasted that the money lead we had in February has completely evaporated,” said Dan Eberhart, a Republican fundraiser and executive in the oil and gas industry who cut a $100,000 check to the Trump Victory Fund in June.

Trump this week said his campaign had to spend millions on advertisements earlier this year to fight the impression that he mishandled the coronavirus pandemic, which has killed more than 194,000 Americans and devastated the U.S. economy.

A couple of donors questioned whether the campaign’s purchase of a multi-million dollar ad during the Super Bowl in February so far ahead of the election, as well as ads in the heavily Democratic Washington, D.C. market in June, were more about Trump’s vanity than strategy.

Eberhart said some of the campaign’s recent actions, including buying ads in few-day increments as opposed to weekly and going dark in some states for a stretch, suggested the campaign now faces a cash pinch.

Bill Stepien, who became Trump’s campaign manager in July, told reporters this week that the campaign was “very comfortable and confident in how we’re spending and where we’re spending.”

Biden is poised to outspend Trump on ads in the final weeks of the race.

The Democrat’s campaign has booked about $181 million in television and radio ad spending between September and November, compared to $156 million by the Trump campaign, according to ad tracking firm Advertising Analytics.

The current bookings show Biden will spend more than Trump in battleground states North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Arizona and Wisconsin. Trump is slated to outspend Biden in Florida and Ohio.

Stepien said in a statement that the incumbent’s campaign has invested heavily in a field operation and ground game aimed at turning out voters “while the Biden campaign is waging almost exclusively an air war.”

“We like our strategy better,” Stepien said.

In the final stretch of the race, the Trump campaign will increase its outreach to donors of all means, advisers said.

Trump’s weekend agenda includes meeting with deep-pocketed donors on Saturday in Washington and on Sunday in Las Vegas, where an event is expected to raise $4 million.
