“In two instances, the victims were killed by their captors unfortunately! This is no more a country one can be proud of.

“No reasonable government can continue to leave the citizens in a terrible state of insecurity. This situation is not good for our nation at all.”

CAN told the Buhari administration to redeem its image of widespread insecurity by bringing sanity to this situation before leaving office.

Aba Crusade: CAN replies IPOB for warning pastor Kumuyi

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has reacted to IPOB’s warning to the General Overseer of Deeper Life Pastor William Kumuyi to shelve his planned crusade in Abia state.

CAN appealed to the Indigenous People of Biafra to allow the General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor William Kumuyi, hold his crusade in Abia State.

CAN’s spokesperson , Adebayo Oladeji, said Kumuyi’s coming to the state would be a blessing to the people of the state.

He added that bloodshed and other forms of insecurity in the state and other South East require God’s intervention.

Oladeji who reacted to IPOB’s warning to Pastor Kumuyi to shelve Deeper Life’s planned crusade in Abia State.

It was gathered that Deeper Life Ministry had fixed a 6-day crusade for May 24,2022 to May 29 in Aba.

According to Oladeji, “It is unfortunate that we have killings going on in the South East. If the political will is there, I believe the killings in the region would have ended.

“We have a situation where you have IPOB declaring sit-at-home and despite the assurance by the government, people will decide to listen to IPOB. Is that what Nigeria should be? This is the situation we find ourselves.

“If IPOB issued such a statement, it is just a reflection of what we are going through in the country. This situation is a precarious one. What CAN will say is that our politicians are in the rat race again. We should open our eyes and vote for people who can protect us.

“There’s nothing we can do than to appeal to them (IPOB). We want IPOB to know that his coming to that part of the country is going to be a blessing and bring victory to the people of the state and the region at large.”

TheNewsGuru.com reports that IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, had asked Kumuyi to take note of the security situation in the South East to cancel the planned crusade

Powerful posited that if anything happens to anyone in the crusade the Deeper Life should be held responsible.

According to Powerful , “Let him and the organizers of the crusade make sure that nothing happens. The security of this region is not good because of political and criminal activities. We, therefore, advise him to stop this crusade for security reasons.

“IPOB will not allow anyone to die because of this crusade scheduled to hold in Aba. The probability of criminals operating as unknown gunmen infiltrating the crusade is high and they will blame it on IPOB.

“We ask him to pray for an end to the insecurity in Biafra land if he can. We charge Christians and men of God in Biafra land to engage God in fervent prayers to expose all those behind the insecurity in our land.”

He appealed to Deeper Life to pray against wicked leaders and saboteurs in the South-East and Nigeria, saying they are the real problems of the people.

The statement read in part, “Let him use the opportunity to pray against powers holding the people captive in Nigeria and in his church in Lagos.

“We equally want them to be united against injustice. We had expected them to demand justice for the innocent Deborah Yakubu burnt alive by Muslim fanatics in Sokoto State.

Sokoto: CAN demands justice for Deborah Samuel

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has condemned the gruesome murder of Deborah Samuel, a 200 Level student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, by some extremist fellow students on alleged blasphemy.

In a joint media briefing by CAN and CAN-Youth Wing, on Friday in Abuja, CAN’s General Secretary, Joseph Daramola, said that the unlawful and dastardly action of the perpetrators must be investigated.

Daramola said that the act should be condemned by all right thinking people and the security operatives should fish the perpetrators out and prosecute them.

“As long as the state fails to bring these beasts and criminals amidst us to book, the society will continue to be their killing fields.

“It is our expectation that the state governor, Aminu Tambuwal, would ensure that the matter is not swept under the carpet, as it was done before,” he said.

Daramola said that CAN urged teachers and preachers of religious intolerance, extremism and terrorism to repent before the wrath of God descended on them, if the State fail to bring them to book.

“Such people are agents of death amidst people. CAN recalled the provocative and demeaning advertisement of the Sterling Bank, where the bank compared the Resurrection of Jesus Christ to “Agege bread”.

“Nobody was attacked and the CAN leadership accepted the apology tendered by its Chief Executive, Abubakar Suleiman,’’ he said.

Daramola said that CAN acknowledged and commended the restraint of Christian students of the College who refused to embrace self-help and reprisal on those who murdered their colleague.

He said that it was CAN’s prayers that those vampires in religious garments would not push the country to a religious war.

“Government and the security agencies should stop treating them with kid gloves. Enough is enough.

“CAN commiserates with the family of Deborah and other bereaved. May God console and comfort them in Jesus Name,’’ he said.

CAN’s Legal Director, Comfort Chigbue, said that justice ought to prevail, adding that Christians are law abiding citizens.

“We will wait to make sure the security agencies do the needful and ensure that this will be the last as necessary actions should be taken. We are sad, we are mourning in CAN,” she said.

Also speaking, Mr Belusochukwu Enwere, the National Chairman, CAN Youth Wing, said the unlawful and dastardly action of the perpetrators must be condemned by all right-thinking people.

He said the Police, Department of Security Services, the Minister of Education must fish out the perpetrators of the act and prosecute them as it is expected.

“Deborah deserves nothing but justice and we believe in your capacity at enthroning justice in this case, by bringing the perpetrators to book.

“We acknowledge and commend the restraint of Christian students of the College who refused to retaliate in the face of provocation on those who murdered their colleague,’’ Enwere said.

He thanked the religious leaders in the country, such as the CAN President, Dr Samson Ayokunle, Bishop Hassan Kukah and the Sultan of Sokoto for condemning this heinous act.

We’re praying for terrorists to repent – CAN

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) says it is praying for the repentance of terrorists in the country.

The group, however, cautioned the Federal Government against the rehabilitation of terrorists, saying the move would undermine the fight against insecurity.

In a statement issued by its National Secretary-General, Joseph Daramola, yesterday, the Christian body said the people terrorizing the country under the guise of religion deserve capital punishment.

It blamed the country’s security challenges on the thoughtless decision by the government to reintegrate repentant terrorists into the society.

The federal government had in 2020 commenced moves to rehabilitate the repentant terrorists in the North-East under its De-radicalisation, Disarmament, Rehabilitation and Reintegration programmes.

The statement read: “We call on the Federal Government to reconsider the de-radicalising and rehabilitating of the arrested and the surrendered terrorists simply because it seems the programme considered laudable is becoming counterproductive.

“It is these pseudo-Muslims who are slaughtering fellow human beings and who burn down worship and market places, all in the name of God who is peace personified. We are praying for their repentance.

“The CAN leadership will not cease having dialogues on peace and unity with the leadership of the NSCIA at the forum provided for us by the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council.”

The president of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Rev. Samson Ayokunle, has admonished Nigerians from the South to ensure it produces a sound Christian to take over the helm of affairs in 2023.

Ayokunle made this statement at the 53rd anniversary and church auditorium dedication of Christ Revival Church,Moleta in Ibadan.

He advised the congregants to rally round any sound Christian from the Southern parts of Nigeria, saying that there are over 100 million Christians from the South.

It is the turn of Christians to produce the next president of Nigeria in 2023- CAN

Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has said it is the turn of Christians to produce the next president of Nigeria in 2023.

The National Chairman of CAN’s Youth Wing, Belusochukwu Enwere, who spoke in Owerri, on Saturday, lambasted MURIC over comments by the Chairman of Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, Bauchi State chapter, Idrees Gambo, against members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, vying for elective position in 2023.

MURIC, in a statement by the Bauchi Chairman, warned that any political party that picks any member of the RCCG would exit the Aso Rock.

Enwere pointed out that MURIC’s statement was an insult to Christians and an abuse of the freedom of the people.

He said, MURIC’s statement shows the low level of the said group and how blind they are in the 21st century.

”For MURIC to say they are challenging RCCG for having the effrontery to launch a political and good governance wing is an insult to our fathers and the entire Christians in Nigeria, especially the young people.

“MURIC calling another faith-based group that will queue behind any candidate from RCCG a traitor is an abuse of office and their freedom of association as stipulated in the Nigerian constitution, and their warning to Islamic organizations and Muslim communities against supporting RCCG is indirectly telling them not to support a Christian candidate in 2023.

“It is the turn of Christians to produce the next president of the country in 2023. We call on them to join hands with us to preach for peace, oneness and help make Nigeria a better place where both Christians and Muslims will be seen as one and have equal rights in all ramifications.”

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has hailed Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) on the occasion of his 80th birthday.

In a letter signed by PFN Director of Media, Mr Simbo Olorunfemi in Lagos, PFN’s National President, Bishop Francis Wale-Oke, congratulated Adeboye for a good life.

Wale-Oke expressed gratitude to God for His grace and faithfulness in the life of Adeboye, one of the founding fathers of PFN and the second President of the association – from 1992 to 1995.

“Not only do you stand out for your humility, your unwavering commitment to the Christian association almost 30 years after you left office as the national president, is worthy of commendation.

“We salute you for consistently supporting the group through the years and readiness to offer the much-needed fatherly advice that has seen the organisation grow.

“Your impact in over 40 years leadership of the Redeemed Christian Church of God is evident across continents, and many generations are making you a global icon and an influential person in the world.

“Our prayer is that God will continue to keep you strong and healthy to continue to serve as an inspiration to millions all over the world within and outside the Christian fold,” he said.

In a similar vein, the leadership of CAN in a statement issued by the General Secretary of the association, Mr Joseph Daramola, described Pastor Adeboye, who was born on March 2, 1942, in Osun State, as a great blessing.

“Daddy G.O., you are a great blessing and gift, not only to the body of Christ, but to the whole world, where God has been making use of you as His vessel of honour,” the association said.

It further said that Adeboye’s emergence as the general overseer of RCCG was ordained by God, as manifested in the unprecedented spread of his ministerial impacts globally.

“We congratulate Daddy G.O., who is a father of fathers, teacher of teachers, pastor of pastors and bishop of bishops,” CAN remarked.

The association described Adeboye as a man with impeccable integrity and an epitome of holiness, faithfulness, miracles and humility.

While describing RCCG as a great and reliable ally of CAN, it commended Adeboye for always insisting that once the association had spoken on any national issue, no church leader should speak on such issue again.

“We are fully persuaded that it is the prayers of Daddy G.O. and a few others that are keeping Nigeria going, in spite of all the challenges currently facing the country,” it said.

While wishing the cleric good health, sound mind and greater exploits, the association prayed God to continue to use him for the emancipation of humanity.

  • CAN tasked to register, license pastors

CAN tasked to register, license pastors

The leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has been urged to urgently begin the registration and licencing of all practicing clerics among its fold across the nation.

Bishop Seun Adeoye, the General Overseer, Sufficient Grace and Truth Ministries, Rehoboth Arena, said this was to stem the rising cases of fake pastors in the country.

Adeoye, also the Lead Bishop, Worldwide Anglican Church (WAC), Nigeria, made the plea in a statement on the 70th birthday of Bishop Gideon Folahanmi, one of the Church leaders in the state.

He said that the registration and licencing of pastors became necessary in view of the rising spate of fake pastors in the country.
Adeoye decried the social media platforms, which he said, had hindered access and voice to many of the fake pastors, who “emit foul odour and vomit dirt from their bowels in the name of prophesies”.

According to him, today, we are surrounded by the so-called men and women of God, declaring fake prophesies, spreading unbiblical doctrines, engaging in all manners of immoral behaviour and undertaking all sorts of rituals at the altar.

“Although, these false pastors are in the minority, they are dangerous to the church and the society.

“They dupe in the name of God. They cause havocs to the church and so much pains and shame to true Christians. They are worse than bandits.

“These wolves should be identified, exposed and disgraced. These shafts must be separated from the wheat.

“They are not called by our Lord to preach the gospel, but they see the church as a means of livelihood to serve the gods of their bellies.

“Therefore, these bad ones must give way to allow the gospel of Christ to flourish. CAN leaders should embark on urgent cleansing by registering and licencing all genuine men and women of God in its fold.

“By this, we can easily identify the evil ones and help deliver victims from their wickedness,” he said

Adeoye, who is also the spokesman, World Bishops’ Council (WBC), Africa, said CAN leaders should be ready to come out boldly to deny anyone engaging in satanic activities.

“Any of such pastors, whose behaviour was found wanting or inimical to the wellbeing of the Body of Christ should be deregistered.

“Enough of this nonsense in the name of God,” he said.

Adeoye praised Folahanmi for his service of over 50 years in the vineyard of God, saying that testimonies from people about his life clearly indicated that the 70-year-old cleric had served God with all sincerity.
