“I think we need to assess to see whether they can be involved on Sunday. Yes, I will communicate tomorrow if we recover players from training. Yes, he [Thiago Silva] has the chance. Tomorrow, we will see,” he said.

The last five encounters between the two sides have ended in a draw at regulation time.

Both teams will play for the Carabao cup gold medal at the Wembley stadium on Sunday.

Carabao Cup: Martial equals Beckham’s all time record for Manchester United

France and Manchester United forward, Anthony Martial, has equaled former soccer legend David Beckham’s goals record at Old Trafford.

Martial has now scored 85 goals same number with David Beckham for the Red Devils.

Martial and Marcus Rashford were introduced into the game versus Nottingham Forest, but Martial scored his 85th goal for the club side 10 minutes after coming on.

  • Carabao Cup: Tuchel, Kepa break silence after Chelsea’s loss to Liverpool

Carabao Cup: Tuchel, Kepa break silence after Chelsea’s loss to Liverpool

Chelsea goalkeeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga has spoken for the first time since he blazed over a crucial penalty in their 11-10 shoot-out loss to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final.

The Spaniard replaced Edouard Mendy in the final minutes of extra time.

However, Kepa failed to reproduce some of his recent heroics and then shot his kick wildly over the bar.

The 27-year-old says he is “disappointed” but will “keep working”.

“To fall and rise. Disappointed after big effort during the tournament. We keep working.

“Thanks @ChelseaFC family for your support,” Kepa tweeted

    Thomas Tuchel Speaks

Thomas Tuchel singled out Trevoh Chalobah for his terrific Carabao Cup final display for Chelsea against Liverpool yesterday.

Speaking to the club media in light of Sunday’s superb showdown, Tuchel metaphorically took his cap off to Chalobah after he returned to the side with a bang following his long injury layoff.

The Cobham academy graduate was thrust straight into the limelight under the Wembley arch, despite having not appeared for nearly a month.

Aside from the FA Cup victory over Plymouth, the centre-back’s only other outing since the turn of the year came against Jurgen Klopp’s men.

He must be well acquainted now with Liverpool’s luxurious front line, which welcomed a new addition recently in the form of Luis Diaz.

Diaz, Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane all started the final, typically a nightmare scenario for any defender fresh from a period on the sidelines.

However, Chalobah seemed unphased by not only the occasion, but the rampaging Reds that kept attacking him all game.

“Huge performance again. We have here Trevoh who didn’t play for six or eight weeks and needs to play 120 minutes against Diaz, Mane and Salah. Brilliant,” said Tuchel glowingly post-match.

Chelsea also welcomed back another of their absentees, imbedding Reece James into the fray with 57 minutes on the clock.

“Reecey comes on after eight weeks of injury and plays almost an hour on this kind of level. I’m proud.”

  • Carabao Cup Final : Ex-England player Glen Johnson tips Liverpool to beat Chelsea

Carabao Cup Final : Ex-England player Glen Johnson tips Liverpool to beat Chelsea

Former England international, Glen Johnson has predicted the winner of Chelsea’s Carabao Cup final tie with Liverpool on Sunday.

Chelsea will face Liverpool in this season’s Carabao Cup final on Sunday at Wembley Stadium.

The Blues, who are currently third in the Premier League table, won the Champions League last season and the FIFA Club World Cup earlier this month.

Liverpool, on the other hand, are still challenging for this season’s Premier League title, while they are expected to enjoy another productive run in the Champions League, which they won under Jurgen Klopp in 2019.

Asked for his Carabao Cup final prediction, Johnson, a former Liverpool and Chelsea player, told BettingOdds, “I am going to go for Liverpool.

“I think the way they can play in these big games, they have just got a lot more going for them, in their performances, and their momentum shall we say.

“We want to see some entertainment. I don’t want it to be a 1-0 or a 0-0 for sure. Both teams are capable of scoring are they not? Let’s hope for a big open game and make it exciting. But I fancy Liverpool.”

  • Klopp announces Carabao Cup final goalkeeper

Klopp announces Carabao Cup final goalkeeper

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will go with “outstanding” Caoimhin Kelleher in next month’s Carabao Cup final against Chelsea.

The Irish goalkeeper started Thursday night’s semi-final second leg against Arsenal, and kept a clean sheet in the Reds’ 2-0 victory.

Regular Reds stopper Alisson Becker had started the first leg against the Gunners, but Klopp would later confirm that that decision was made to simply give the Brazilian some match practice.

“Caoimhin will play, if he is fit,” said Klopp on Friday.

“We consider Caoimhin as an outstanding goalie. Not a good goalie, an outstanding goalie, and we want to keep him here.

“And to keep him here you need to make sure of a few things. Before a season you need to think and talk about about the different games he will get.

“It is all about performing of course. If he didn’t perform on the level he performed when he played then I would maybe think differently.

“But he has shown he deserves all the trust and faith that we have in him. So that is the situation.”

  • Chelsea beat Tottenham on penalty to reach Carabao Cup final

Chelsea beat Tottenham on penalty to reach Carabao Cup final

Chelsea won a penalty shootout on a night of high drama at Stamford Bridge, overcoming Tottenham to secure a Carabao Cup final meeting with Manchester City.

After an enthralling 90 minutes which saw the tie end 2-2 on aggregate, the tie was settled when David Luiz scored the winning kick after Kepa Arrizabalaga’s fine save from Lucas Moura.

Chelsea, who have now reached 15 finals in 16 years in all competitions, will face Pep Guardiola’s City at Wembley on 24 February.

Blues boss Maurizio Sarri, who said after losing to Arsenal at the weekend that his players are “extremely difficult to motivate”, celebrated with his team at the end.

Trailing 1-0 from the semi-final first leg at Wembley, Chelsea were level on aggregate when the unmarked N’Golo Kante drilled in a first-time shot from 20 yards through three pairs of legs after a corner.

Eden Hazard, who Blues boss Sarri said on the eve of the tie “has to do more”, fired Chelsea into a 2-1 aggregate lead with an arrowed finish after being picked out by captain Cesar Azpilicueta.

Tottenham were without injured duo Harry Kane and Dele Alli as well as Son Heung-min, who is away with South Korea at the Asian Cup, BBC reports.

They failed to produce a shot on target in the first half but forced penalties when Fernando Llorente converted Danny Rose’s cross.

On Saturday, Sarri was critical of his players after a 2-0 defeat at Arsenal left his side 13 points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool with 15 games to go.

The Italian can now look forward to a Wembley final in his first season in charge after his team responded with a much improved performance to overturn Tottenham’s lead.

It was apt that Hazard should score such a vital goal.

On the eve of this game, Sarri said the Belgium forward “has to do more” adding: “I prefer him when he speaks with his feet.”

Hazard responded by starting and finishing a slick move which made it 2-0 and put Chelsea ahead in the tie for the first time.

Earlier, Kante had given the hosts the perfect start with a lovely finish as Tottenham found themselves on the back foot before responding with a much better second half display to send the tie to penalties.

Chelsea scored all four of their spot kicks – Willian, Azpilicueta, Jorginho and Luiz all keeping their composure.

In contrast, Tottenham missed two of their four kicks – Eric Dier, a World Cup penalty shootout hero for England in Russia, firing over the bar before Moura was denied by Arrizabalaga.
