Man Utd: Ralf Rangnick reveals Cavani transfer chat

Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani has vowed to remain at Old Trafford until his contract expires at the end of the season.

The Uruguayan has been linked with a move to Barcelona this month.

And United interim boss Ralf Rangnick has confirmed Cavani will see out the remainder of the campaign.

“I told him that if it was up to me I would want him to stay,” Rangnick said ahead of Monday’s FA Cup third-round clash with Aston Villa.

“I had a conversation with him [on Thursday]. He came into my office and we spoke for almost half an hour and he told me he will definitely stay and would want to stay until the end of the season.

“Not only because I told him that he should stay or has to stay, he did it on his own behalf and he told me that I can rely on him to stay until the end of the season and give his very best and be a role model for the young players.

“If he should play from the start, he’s available and he’s happy to play.

“Even if he’s not playing, he will be trying to be the best possible role model for the other players and for me this is good news.”

Man Utd striker welcomes interest from Barcelona

Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani is ready to join Barcelona.

The Times says Cavani’s deal expires in the summer, and he has ambitions of playing in La Liga before calling time on his career.

The Uruguay international believes he still has two years left at the top level, and wants to link up with Xavi at Barcelona.

Cavani joined the Red Devils in 2020 and signed a one-year extension in the summer.

But he seems unlikely to put pen-to-paper on another extension at Old Trafford with a move to Barcelona on the cards.

And with cash-strapped Barca targeting low-cost transfers, the free signing of Cavani is an attractive prospect.

Osimhen reminds me of a younger Edinson Cavani – Atzori

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen with his recent form in Europe, has been compared to the younger version of Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani by Gianluca Atzori.

After a shaky debut season at Napoli due to coronavirus and injury issues, the 22-year-old has been progressing in the 2021-22 campaign.

So far, he boasts seven goals in eight appearances for Luciano Spalletti’s men who currently lead the Serie A table thanks to a perfect start.

“He started very strongly, and when a striker starts in confidence, usually, he enjoys this throughout the year,” Atzori said on 1 Station Radio, as per Tuttonapoli.net.

“He is physical, and he helps the team a lot and reminds me of the younger Cavani.

“I wish him to continue like this and make the same career as the Matador.”

Cavani to Ronaldo: You always want to play

Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani admits he’d like to play more this season.

Cavani had a first start in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Everton.

And opening up on his struggles in recent months, according to El Observador, he said: “In football, you have to always be ready. It’s one of the keys at the top level.

“Sometimes you play more, sometimes you play less, managers make decisions, but that doesn’t stop the work to always be competitive.

“The league has just started and I have needed to be, not quite like last year, but I’m there to be a part of it.”

When asked what he made of Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival, he also added: “Those are things that happen, a lot of debate is created, but football is football and you don’t have to turn it around too much, it’s not because one or the other is there.

“The important thing is to be prepared for when it’s your turn, you always want to play, he wants to be there forever, but that is not going to change my way of thinking or acting.”

Ronaldo on No7 shirt: A huge thank you to Cavani

Cristiano Ronaldo has thanked Edinson Cavani for giving up his Manchester United No7 shirt.

The Premier League has granted United special dispensation, allowing the new recruit to claim the No7 shirt, with Cavani switching to the No21 shirt following the deadline day exit of Daniel James to Leeds.

Now that United have officially confirmed that Ronaldo will wear the No7 shirt this season, the former Real Madrid man has thanked Cavani for his willingness to give him his preferred shirt number.

“I wasn’t sure if it would be possible to have the number seven shirt again,” Ronaldo said. “So I would like to say a huge thank you to Edi (Cavani) for this incredible gesture.”

Uruguay cancel call-up for Edinson Cavani

Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani’s Uruguay call-up for next month’s 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers has been cancelled.

The Premier League announced last week that its clubs would not release players for international duty which involved travel to countries covered by the British government’s “red list” coronavirus restrictions.

Uruguay is on that list, which would mean Cavani being required to quarantine in a government-approved hotel for 10 days on his return to Britain.

However, the Uruguayan federation has confirmed that Cavani would no longer be called up for the matches against Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador.

Aston Villa announced on Sunday that their Argentina call-ups — Emi Martinez and Emi Buendia — would be released for that country’s first two qualifiers in the September break.

They however stated that the players would miss the last one (match) against Bolivia.

Under that arrangement, the club said, the players would only miss the Premier League game against Chelsea on Sept. 11.

Cavani reluctant to give up Man Utd No7 shirt to Sancho

Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani is determined to keep hold of his No7 shirt.

The Daily Express says Cavani would prefer to keep his No7 shirt instead of giving it up for Jadon Sancho.

The Uruguay international took the jersey upon arriving from Paris Saint-Germain in October.

Sancho passed his United medical today after Borussia Dortmund accepted a£73m offer from Manchester United during Euro 2020.

For the moment, no decision on his shirt number has yet been made amid previous claims he’d take No 7 from Cavani.

  • Cavani deal does not end striker search – Solskjaer

Cavani deal does not end striker search – Solskjaer

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in the market for a new striker signing.

Solskjaer was desperate to tie Edinson Cavani down for another 12 months, with his old deal set to expire next month.

But despite landing his man for another year, the Norwegian is not done yet and is keen on bolstering the position further.

Solskjaer told TV2: “It was very important, because we have not seen close to his best yet.

“He came here in October and had not played football in seven months.

“It takes time to get in shape, even if he takes care of himself.

“He got some injuries and little things that bothered him, and it is only recently that we have begun to see some of the best of him.

“When he gets this experience and a run-up, he will be better than this year, despite the fact that he is getting older.”

But Solskjaer remains keen on adding further to his attack – the question is whether he goes all out for a new undisputed first choice, or a younger striker to develop.

With the likes of Harry Kane and Erling Haaland linked, Solskjaer added: “I am very happy that it has happened.

“But that does not mean that we are not looking for someone who can challenge or learn from him [Cavani].”

Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani admits his joy at representing the club.

The Uruguayan star earned a new contract, and will stay with the Red Devils next season.

Cavani netted a superb 40-yard lob to give United the lead against Fulham on Tuesday, before they were pegged back for a 1-1 draw.

“I’m very happy and pleased to be a part of this club and to wear this shirt with pride,” he said post-game, per the club website.

“As I mentioned before, I’m one of football’s hard workers, and I’m here to give my very best, right until the final minute of every game and until the final game I play for the club.”

He added: “I’ll be doing my best to ensure we can enjoy some happy moments altogether.

“So, I hope to see you all soon, and thanks very much for all the good wishes I’ve received throughout the difficult and complicated year we’ve all been having, both on social media and from the people around me.”

Edinson Cavani has explained signing his new contract with Manchester United.

The veteran penned a new 12 month deal this week.

He told 2 de Punta: “There was a moment, I said to myself, I cannot leave here like that. It’s a matter of the heart, of pride.

“I said to myself: ‘you must give yourself the chance to live another great season, to fight to win titles with this club, to leave your mark in this club, as you have done elsewhere’.

“For the people, for this affection. My teammates, who told me: ‘don’t leave Edi, we love you’. One of them said to me: ‘if you go, I’m going to want to cry’.”
