2022 UTME: JAMB announces results out soon

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) said about 1.4 million candidates have so far sat for its 2022 exercise across the country and their results would soon be released.

The board revealed this in its Weekly Bulletin of the Office of the Registrar on Tuesday, in Abuja.

JAMB said the results for its ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) were undergoing a form of scrutiny before being released to candidates.

”About 1.4 million candidates have so far taken the examination across the country with some examination towns and centres completing their own allotted number of candidates for the year.

”The results of sessions already taken will be released soon.

”However, the release of these results is with the caveat that after previewing the CCTV footage of the conduct of the examination, the result of any candidate found wanting would be withdrawn if already released.

“If not yet released, such result would be withheld.”

Over 1. 7 million candidates registered for the 2022 exercise and were expected to sit for the ongoing exercise across the country.

JAMB also said that it had no significant concerns as the exercise progressed, adding that the reports coming in from the states established the veracity of the reports earlier received from its centre teams.

It, however, reiterated its zero tolerance for examination infractions and urged candidates to conduct themselves properly, while following its rules.

Similarly, the board warned Computer Based Tests (CBT) centre owners not to engage in any form of infraction against its operational code that might negatively impact the exercise.

JAMB said: “The board is not here to subordinate the interest of Nigeria to any other interests. JAMB would, therefore, not tolerate any infraction, no matter how small.

”If the tempo of JAMB activities is too high for any centre, they are to, at liberty, seek other areas of engagement as there are so many things people can do outside partnering with JAMB.”

It further urged centre owners to ensure full compliance with extant rules and regulations in their dealings with the board as there would be no hiding place for any wrongdoer.

The 2022 exercise commenced on May 6 and is scheduled to end on May 16.

  • JAMB releases results of 2022 mock UTME

JAMB releases results of 2022 mock UTME

The results of the 2022 mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination conducted on April 9 have been released by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB.

JAMB made this known in its Weekly Bulletin of the Office of the Registrar, on Monday in Abuja.

“Consequently, candidates who sat for the examination are to visit www.jamb.gov.ng and click on ‘2022 Mock Result Checking’ and input their UTME registration number to access their results,” it stated.

It was gathered that no less than 175, 000 candidates sat for the examination at JAMB’s 757 centres nationwide.

The Registrar of the board, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, after the Saturday exercise, had expressed satisfaction over the conduct of the exercise nationwide.

Oloyede said that the 175,000 candidates, who wrote the mock examination, were limited to only one session which started from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

He also assured that the board and all the Computer Based Tests centres were ready for the conduct of the 2022 main examination coming up from May 6 to May 16.

A total of 1.8 million candidates were registered for this year’s main UTME.

UTME: We allowed CBT centres to increase service charge – Registrar

Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says the board allowed Computer Based Test Centres (CBT) to increase the service charge to 1,000 for its April 9, mock examination.

Newsmen reports that the JAMB organises mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), which is optional to test run facilities in accredited centres to be used for the test nationwide.

The main UTME has been scheduled by the board to commence from May 6 to May 16.

Oloyede, while reviewing an award by the Board of Vanguard Media Ltd. on Tuesday in Abuja, hinted that all arrangements for the successful conduct of the examination had been put in place by JAMB.

He however explained that the slight increase in the service charge for the examination by the CBT centres was to allow them do a thorough job owing to the increase in the cost of diesel, to power their generating sets.

“We are saying that we have allowed the CBT centres to increase the amount. We have not increased the fees; we have even said anybody can decrease the fees.

“But we have hitherto asked the centres not to increase more than N700, but now we have seen the reality and we have said they could charge up to N1,000.

“So the reality is the truth, unless we do not want them to conduct the examination. We have done the analysis of their expenses and if we insist that they must put on their air conditioners, the cost of diesel for their generators has to be taken into consideration,” he said.

According to the registrar, the board is not increasing its charges, adding that before now, the registration documents used to be N5,000.

“Even the N5, 000 was just theoretically. “We were buying the form in 2020 for N5, 000, we insist on N5,000 and we further reduce it from N5,000 to N3,500 and we are not increasing, despite the fact that the cost is going up.

“So, we felt that our partners are the ones to add, while we do the sacrifice, we cannot impose unrealistic sacrifice on our partners and that is why we have allowed our partners to charge,” he said.

On the award, Oloyede commended the Vanguard Media Group for the honour, saying “it is a call to service’’.

The registrar further noted that he would not have been nominated by just staying in Ilorin, but for the work done at the board.

He said that the award was a confirmation of public trust in him, as the head of the JAMB, noting that many Nigerians had also achieved a lot for the country.

The JAMB boss, therefore, called on the media to give good reportage on Nigerians who had done well for the country, rather than concentrating on bad news just to sell their newspapers.

Also speaking, Mr Nnanna Ochereome, the Chairman, Editorial Board of Vanguard Media Ltd. commended the registrar for finding it worthy to receive the award.

Ochereome said that the coming of the registrar to JAMB depicted a leader who could turn around the fortune of the board, adding that Nigeria needed such a leader to transform the country.

“Your coming to JAMB shows a leader that can squeeze water out of stone.

“For what you have done in JAMB gives Nigerians the hope that one day somebody like you, if not you, will find himself on the presidential seat because that is what we have been looking for as a country.

  • 2022 UTME: JAMB sends strong warning to vendors, agents

2022 UTME: JAMB sends strong warning to vendors, agents

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says it will blacklist any vendors or its agents who violate its rules for the 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) exercise.

The Registrar of the board, Prof Is’haq Oloyede, stated this in Ibadan on Saturday, while monitoring the registration exercise at some centres.

Oloyede, who said he was impressed and satisfied with the registration process at the centres visited, said the involvement of parents was part of the problem faced in the on-going 2022 UTME registration.

“There are few places where it could be better but here at the University of Ibadan, it has been very excellent.

“Some CBT centres, vendors and agents will be blacklisted, the implication is that if you do not follow the rules, you do not have the right to our accreditation,” he said.

Oloyede stated that part of the quality assurance mechanism was to allow a candidate to see who is registering him/her.

“The purpose of that is that a candidate sits in front of the screen for about six to seven minutes and he or she will be seeing the large picture of the person registering.

“It is possible that if there are problems, the person will be able to recognise the person who registered him or her.

“But, If you minimise that picture and that candidate cannot identify you in case of a problem, that is a violation of one of our rules.

“Follow the rules you need not think for us because we have a purpose for what we are doing,” the registrar said.

On those selling above the official price of N4700, Oloyede said: “If someone who is vending the pin at the particular place is selling consistently more than N4,700, those registering here (at a particular centre) ought to know and if not, then we will hold them responsible for not being vigilant because it is within their premises.

“But we will not hold them responsible for the charges because every pin sold, we know the vendor, so we could trace the vendor, we call E-transact or System Spec Remita, but all of them at the face value they will sell at N4,700.

“But their agents may collect more than that, like a woman that collected more and pocketed N1000 by selling the form at N5700; because Etransact will not sell above N4,700, but the agents are exhorting them.

“That is why we say, vendors must know their customers, those who are their agents.

”Therefore, if your pin is sold a quarter above N4,700, we will hold you responsible and that is why we invited three banks yesterday and mobile money operators and gave them warning.

“We also gave them evidence that their agents are fraudulent and we have blacklisted those agents who would never be allowed to participate in any activities of JAMB because we know their names and NIN. That was why we said anybody vending we must have their name and NIN,” he said.

Oloyede said the implication of the blacklist is that “when the person is blacklisted our server will not allow him or her work anywhere related to JAMB.

“And, even if the person wants to be a student, our server will tell us to mark the person as someone who is not to be trusted. So we will now tell the university that this person you want to admit this is his or her record.”

He said as of the time of the monitoring exercise about 600,000 candidates have been registered out of the target of 1.5 million.

The registrar said going by the pace of the registration process, if there is no disruption, no serious candidate would be left out by March 26 when the registration will close.

He noted that the board has put measures in place to consolidate on past gains in the use of technology.

“We are also checking our system to be sure that it is doing OK and so far so good. We are trying to consolidate only adding one or two additions in the examination site this year,” Oloyede said.

Also, Mrs Francesca Ayodele, Deputy Registrar, University of Ibadan overseeing the CBT centre at the Distance Learning Centre of the institution, said the CBT centre in UI has been having smooth operations.

“And, as you know UI is a very creditable institution so we are leveraging the good name of the institution. The regulation is going on peacefully,” she said.

  • 2022 UTME: JAMB goes cashless with CBT fee

2022 UTME: JAMB goes cashless with CBT fee

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is set to go totally cashless in its registration process beginning with the 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

This was contained in the JAMB’s weekly news magazine, JAMBULLETIN published on Monday.

With the adoption of a new system, JAMB would be collecting the approved N700 registration fee on behalf of the various Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres along with its UTME registration fees.

In its weekly bulletin, issued on Monday and obtained, the examination body said the money due to each registration centre would be remitted to relevant bank accounts on a weekly basis or any timeframe acceptable to the centre owners.

JAMB said its decision to go cashless in the UTME registration exercise would put an end to some of the fraudulent activities of some CBT centres, who charge candidates above stipulated fee.

“This laudable step was borne out of a painstaking review of the entire UTME registration process which has revealed some unethical and unacceptable practices by many Computer-Based Testing (CBT) centres,” the bulletin reads in part.

JAMB had said it has remitted the sum of N3.51b to the national treasury, as part of its 2021 operating surplus. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB Spokesperson made this disclosure on Tuesday, November 2, in Abuja.

The 2021 remittance was part of Prof. Ishaq Oloyede’s avowed commitment to prudent management of public resources. The Board as led by Prof Ishaq Oloyede would continue to prune down the cost of governance and release resources for other needy national prioritized areas.

Similarly, the examination body on Monday, November 8, defended the remittance of its operating surplus to the federal government accounts.

The board said it will continue to remit its excesses in line with global best practices to the federal government. JAMB in a statement signed by its head of public affairs, Fabian Benjamin, said its action to remit proportion of its operational surplus is also line with the extant government’s directive on the remittances.

  • Delta FRSC begins CBT for new driver’s licence applicants

Delta FRSC begins CBT for new driver’s licence applicants

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has commenced Computer Based Test (CBT) for graduating applicants from driving schools for issuance of driver’s licence.

FRSC Sector Commander in Delta State, Mr Patrick Okoyeocha, said this in a statement on Friday in Asaba.

Okoyeocha said the new policy became imperative following the successful transition of the FRSC Driving School Standardisation Programme (DSSP) portal from version 1.0 to version 2.0.

According to him, it has become necessary for the Corps to enlighten the public on this upgrade as it has a larger capacity to accommodate motorcycles, tricycles and articulated vehicles.

“More spectacular to this upgrade is the CBT. It is important for the general public to know that the CBT was introduced to enhance the integrity of the National Driver’s Licence.

“It is also to check the unwholesome practices by some driving schools that issue certificates by proxy, without conducting adequate training of applicants.

“CBT is also to align with global best practices on driver’s education and the need to tackle the high level of road traffic crashes resulting from human error which contributes more than 75 per cent road traffic crash related cases in Nigeria.

“The CBT test came into effect on the June 1, after a successful trial (pilot scheme) from May 6 to 30 and so far the CBT has recorded 80 per cent success in all registered driving schools across the nation,” he said.

Okoyeocha said that applicants were expected to complete 25 intensive training sessions of theory and practical driving.

“At the end of the 25th session, a 30 multiple choice questions is expected to be answered in 30 minutes, after completion, a candidate’s score is displayed and transferred to the DSSP portal for processing of certificates.

“Successful candidate with the pass mark 60 per cent and above can now apply for National Driver’s Licence using his Driving School Certificates.

“A candidate who fails the CBT is requested to re-sit after seven days and the exact date of the re-sit will automatically be generated by the CBT application.

“The essence is to ensure integrity of driver’s licence process and ultimately to produce drivers who are well trained that will ensure reduction of carnage on our highways,” he added.

Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta on Friday in Asaba inaugurated a private-owned ICT centre, Westgate Technologies Limited with a 600 capacity Computer Based Test (CBT) centre, retail shop and training centre.

In his remark at the event, the governor restated the commitment of his administration to provide an enabling environment for investments to thrive.

Represented by the State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mr Matthew Itsekiri, Okowa urged potential investors to take advantage of the prevailing atmosphere of peace in the state to invest in Delta.

He described the ICT centre as a “magnificent investment,” saying that his administration was proud to be associated with the company.

“The presence of this ICT hub in Asaba will save government the cost of going to Lagos and other parts of world for standard ICT products.

“Before now, we go to Lagos to make purchases of ICT products and start negotiating for discounts but now that we have such here, it saves us time, risk and resources.

“As a government, we are ready to make Delta a smart state in terms of ICT. I call on private entrepreneurs to support this drive in the development of ICT,” Okowa said.

In a remark, the Chief Executive Officer of Westgate Technologies Limited, Mr Casmir Ezeudu, disclosed that the company had offered to train 2,000 students in the state drawn from public schools on ICT at no cost.

He also stated that Westgate Technologies would organise technology summit for the youth within the host communities to develop their talents.

“We will not just sell products but meaningfully contribute to the growth of the host community.

“The centre is to undertake all forms of examinations, JAMB, NECO and be a training centre in the state.

“Most of our employees are from Delta and so, for a start, there will be free computer training for 2,000 students from public schools in the state.

“We are going to do this because we want to assist those who ordinarily cannot afford these ICT trainings and facilities,” Ezeudu said.

  • JAMB suspends 17 CBT centres over malpractices, says no going back on Thursday deadline

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has suspended 17 Computer-Based Test centres from registering candidates for the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination for involving in different forms of malpractices.

The board also said it would not extend the registration of candidates which will end on Thursday, February 21, with over 1.6 million persons now registered for the exam.

The Chairman of JAMB’s Governing Board, Dr Emmanuel Ndukwe, stated this in a bulletin from the Office of the Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, released by the board on Monday.

Ndukwe said the board had regulated the registration with guiding rules and regulations to prevent Nigerians from being extorted by fraudulent CBT centres.

The chairman said, “The 2019 registration commenced on Thursday, January 10, and is expected to end on Thursday, February 21. There would be no extension of the exercise as the deadline remains sacrosanct.

To ensure that Nigerians are not exploited or have their data mutilated, the board has regulated the registration exercise so that we may obtain the actual statistics that will reflect the realities on the ground.

Any centre we find not complying with the ethics of registration will be sanctioned and we believe that this is the way to go in ensuring that the right things are done. All requirements have been defined and agreed upon by the board and centre owners.”

According to the JAMB’s release, the suspended CBT centres are Matar Miseri Cordiae Centre and Mardakem Company Limited, both in Akwa-Ibom State; Bintels Global Services, Anambra State; Global ICT Connect Limited, Benue State; Swiftcom Global, Cross River State; Sapele Technical College, Delta State; Evangel University, Ebonyi State; Bishop Gabriel CBT Centre and DA Civic Centre, both in Edo State.

2019 UTME: JAMB registers over 1.6 million few days to closure

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says not less than 1.8 million candidates would be registered for its 2019 UTME by the end of the registration exercise scheduled for Feb. 21.

The Board’s Head, Media and Information, Dr Fabian Benjamin, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Lagos.

Benjamin expressed satisfaction at the ongoing registration exercise nationwide, adding that so far, it had been smooth with little or no hitches.

The registration of candidates for this year’s all Computer Based Test (CBT) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), commenced on Feb. 10.

Meanwhile an official bulletin of the board tagged ‘jambulletin’ issued on Sunday said over 1.6 million candidates had registered for the examination between Feb. 10 and Feb. 15, nationwide, with Lagos recording the highest, with 234,259 candidates.

According to the bulletin, preparations for the successful conduct of the examination scheduled to commence few weeks from now is in top gear.

Also contained in the bulletin is the restatement of the unlikely extension of the registration deadline by the board.

“Candidates would commence the reprinting of their examination notification slips two weeks to the examination date.

“On the examination slip are candidates’ schedule for the examination, date, time and centre, as well as other necessary information about the examination.

“Two weeks to the commencement of the examination, candidates will have their slips placed on their profiles.

“However, in the event where candidates could not access their slip, such candidates can visit the board’s service portal,on www.jamb.org.ng to print the slip,” the bulletin stated.

It also said that messages would as well be sent to candidates, informing them on when to reprint their e-slip.

According to the bulletin, the processes are all automated to keep candidates abreast of developments, just as messages will be sent to all candidates informing them on when to print their e-slip.

The bulletin warned candidates against coming into the examination halls with prohibited items such as wrist watches, telephones and others.

It re-assured candidates that the board was working round the clock to guarantee their full participation during the examination.
