“Today, we gather here to extend a warm welcome to the students participating in the cooperation program between CCECC, the Federal Government of Nigeria, and Chang’an University.

“It is a momentous occasion that fills us with immense pride and joy as we witness the fruits of their hard work, determination, and the generous support extended to them by CCECC, the government and the university.

“They have embarked on a remarkable quest for knowledge, growth, and cultural exchange. Their commitment to education and the pursuit of excellence has been duly rewarded today,” he said.

According to Zhang, education is the foundation upon which great nations are built.

He said CCECC’s efforts to foster the intellectual development of Nigerian students would definitely be a rewarding experience for both the company and the country.

He said,”During the implementation of this programme, CCECC has spared no effort in sponsoring these young people, and now the company is working hard to secure job opportunities.

“In this process, CCECC has not only empowered these young people but has also contributed to the overall development of this great nation.”

Also speaking, the Minister of Transportation, Sen. Said Alkali, commended CCECC’s dedication to Nigeria’s development.

According to him, the company’s efforts align with the Federal Government’s National Local Content Policy for Railway development.

“This policy emphasises the involvement of competent local engineers, technicians, and craftsmen in railway projects, ensuring knowledge transfer and technical participation through training and apprenticeship programmes.

“The graduates, who specialised in railway and other transportation-related fields, are now set to play pivotal roles in Nigeria’s growing transportation sector.

“The CCECC has not only sponsored their education but is also committed to securing job opportunities within the company.

“This commitment reflects CCECC’s broader goal of integrating technical know-how and fostering industrial cooperation in Nigeria,” he said.

While expressing the Federal Government’s commitment to the sector’s growth, Alkali expressed confidence in the graduates’ ability to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s transportation sector.

He urged them to leverage their newly acquired skills and knowledge to drive economic growth and modernisation.
The minister also assured CCECC of the Federal Government’s continued support, emphasising the importance of maintaining high standards in project execution and professionalism.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, represented by the Chairman, House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Oluwole Oke, also commended the CCECC for its efforts and contribution to national development.

He urged that Nigeria should learn from China’s progress in infrastructure development and urged the Chinese to show us the way.

For the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, represented by Sen. Amos Yohanna, the graduates have returned as professionals with knowledge, skills and desire to shape Nigeria.

Akpabio urged other corporations to take cues from CCECC’s engagement in CSR, which would benefit Nigerians.

“Cooperations should fertilise the economic ground they plant and reap from. They should invest in our young people,” he said.

The graduates expressed gratitude to CCECC and the Nigerian government for the opportunity.

N5bn fraud: Court shifts Stella Oduah, CCECC case

A Federal High Court, Abuja, on Tuesday, rescheduled the trial of Sen. Stella Oduah, a Chinese construction giant, CCECC, and others on alleged N5 billion fraud charges for Nov. 14.

The matter, which was on number three on the cause list could not be heard by Justice Inyang Ekwo.

Although counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Offem Uket, was in court, the defendants, including Oduah, were not in court.

Recall that Justice Ekwo had, on July 21, ordered the EFCC to produce persons behind breaching his privacy through text messages on his phone and another group who petitioned the chief justice of Nigeria regarding the ongoing case.

The judge, who adjourned the matter until today, directed that the anti-corruption agency must produce the those persons in court.

“I will give a date for trial and make a consequential order because you have allowed this matter to degenerate this way.

“Do you think you can shield any of these persons who have interfered in these proceedings?” he asked rhetorically.

Oduah, a former senator representing Anambra North Senatorial District at the 9th National Assembly, and others were arraigned on July 21 on 25-count charge.

She was arraigned alongside CCECC Nigeria Ltd, the Nigerian subsidiary of China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) established by the Chinese government to execute international contracts and economic cooperation.

Also joined in the charge are Gloria Odita, Nwosu Emmanuel Nnamdi and Chukwuma Irene Chinyere.

Others include Global Offshore and Marine Ltd, Tip Top Global Resources Ltd, Crystal Television Ltd and Sobora International Ltd.

They all pleaded not guilty to the counts and were admitted to bail in terms of the administrative bail earlier granted them by the anti-graft agency.

In the charge marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/316/2020 and filed by the EFCC on December 17, 2020, the defendants are being accused of laundering various sums of money totalling about N5,052,415,984 between February and June 2014.

The EFCC accused the defendants of conspiracy to commit money laundering, transferring, taking control and taking possession of proceeds of fraud, aiding and abetting money laundering and opening anonymous bank accounts.

Specifically, the prosecution alleged in two of the 25 counts that Oduah, a former Aviation Minister, and Odita opened anonymous “Private Banking Nominee” dollar and naira accounts with First Bank Ltd, thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 11(1) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act 2011 (as amended) and punishable under Section 11(4) (a) of the same Act.

In the charge, CCECC Nigeria Limited was alleged to have transferred over N2.5 billion into the naira account of a Private Banking Nominee between March 31 and June 6, 2014.

Governor Okowa committed to commissioning of project before end of tenure

The Governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa is committed to the completion and commissioning of the Warri/Effurun Flood Control Measure projects, phase I and II handling by Levant Construction Company and CCECC.

This was disclosed by the Director General, Warri/Uvwie and Environs Special Area Development Agency (WUEDA), Comrade. Ovuozourie Macaulay in Warri when visited by the Delta State Project Monitoring Commissioner and his team.

He mentioned that he has told both Contractors handling the project to see to its completion by February 2023 as the Governor is determined to commission all projects, even as he maintained that the integrity of job must be protected.

“The project though not yet completed but the impact has already been felt in the environment. In the last two years the cry of flooding has drastically reduced in most affected areas, as most of the areas experiencing flood when it rains heavily were not flooded as usual in the raining season due to the impact of the project ongoing in those areas ” he said.

“The major cause of flooding in this environment is 80% man made as they have built across the waterways which is a serious challenge to Government, but the Governor is sensitive to the plight of the people and that is why he is determined to see all projects completed and commissioned before he leaves office next year.” he stated.

In his response, the Honorable Commissioner, Project Monitoring,
Chief. Tony Ofoni commended the efforts of the Director General, and stressed that he has known him for years as a result oriented leader, even as he expressed satisfaction knowing that most of the ministries are represented in the Agency to help achieve a good job.

He stressed that the essence of inspecting projects in the state is to ensure that Contractors do a standard job as specification demand, as jobs that does not meet up to the expectation of the Governor will not be accepted.

“The Governor does not take nonsense, he need result, and a lot of contracts has been invoked for not doing well. Final inspection will be carried out on every project in the State before payment will be made to ensure that project are well executed.” he said.

The Commissioner expressed satisfaction at the level of work done so far when he visited some of the project sites in Warri and Uvwie, phase I and II respectively, and urged the contractors to put more effort in speeding up the work to ensure that they deliver as at when due.

Some of the project sites visited by the Commissioner and his team are Eboh road, Okore road by the bridge,
Ajamimogha link road and PTI Road Effurun.

  • Gov Fayemi, others witness landing of first aircraft to touch down in Ekiti airport

Gov Fayemi, others witness landing of first aircraft to touch down in Ekiti airport

A jubilant crowd and the Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi; on Saturday, witnessed the inaugural landing of the first aircraft to touch down at the newly constructed Ekiti Cargo Airport, along Ado-Ijan road, Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

Other dignitaries that witnessed it include the Minister of Trade, Industry and Investment- Niyi Adebayo; Ekiti Speaker- Funminiyi Afuye, his deputy- Hakeem Jamiu and other top government officials.

The flight with registration number NAF 930 belonging to the Nigerian Air Force landed the airport around 10:20 am with the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika and officials of the ministry on board.

Fayemi was elated at the aircraft landing and construction of the airport in record time.

The outgoing Governor, who described the airport as a dream come true for Ekiti people, said the facility would boost the socio-economic growth and development of the State..

He added that the project, which began in 2019, was geared towards unlocking the vast potentials inherent in Ekiti to attract investors, provide easy transportation of agricultural produces, job opportunities and open Ekiti for rapid development.

Fayemi said that the inauguration of the airport was in fulfillment of his promise to continue to work for the people of the state who elected him to his very last day in office saying the project saw the light of the day despite the very limited resources available to the state.

He noted that his administration defied the challenges of COVID-19 which adversely affected global, national and state economies to ensure that the dream of the airport became a reality which culminated in the test landing of the first flight on his last day in office.

Going down memory lane, the Governor recalled that the move to start the project began during his first tenure in 2012 with a Committee on the Viability of the Airport led by legal luminary, Aare Babalola, raised by his then administration noting that the Committee submitted its report in 2012.

According to him, his first administration through the State Executive Council considered and approved the report submitted which was accommodated in its plan for the 2013-2015 Medium Term Sector Strategy but the plan was halted by his exit from office after the 2014 governorship election which placed the project on suspension.

The Governor said his successor in office, Ayo Fayose, embraced the idea to continue with the project but it couldn’t see the light of the day until his tenure ended in 2018.

He said further: “Upon my assumption of office in 2018, I appointed aviation experts and industry-related officials to kickstart the implementation of the project. They made several Advocate visits to communities in order to meet the requirements for the establishment of the airport.

“The administration took the following steps: we secured the approval, the revalidation of approval from the Federal Ministry of Aviation. We also secured the Department of State Services (DSS) clearance, we paid all the necessary fees for the construction, planning and certification to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and conducted an Environmental and Sustainability Impact Assessment.

“As a government that adheres strictly to the rule of law with unwavering respect for the rights of our people, we made several appeals to communities affected for enumeration of their farmlands to ensure commensurate monetary compensation is paid on their crops.

“To this end, a total of 669 claimants were duly compensated out of those that presented themselves for the exercise. We acquired 4,017 hectares of land from nine communities: Ago Aduloju, Aso Ayegunle, Bolorunduro, Igbogun, Araromi, Obbo, Afao, Orun, Igbemo and Ijan covering three local government areas in the state.”

TheNewsGuru.com reports that Aviation Minister Sirika also announced to the excited audience that the Federal Government would site a cargo facility at the airport. He described the Ekiti Airport as “an extremely very important project” which would turn facilitate import and export of goods and commodities.

Senator Sirika recalled that when he was on the site for the groundbreaking in October 2019, there were divergent views as to the viability of the project noting that airports are being used by what he called “one-city nation-states in the world” to drive their economy.

He added: “I use to make an assertion, thay one mile long road leads to nowhere but one mile runway leads to everywhere. You see, I came here today through the runway of this airport provided by Governor Fayemi. There is future with this project, market and trade can drive everybody here.

“I was at ABUAD, I saw the university,t he farm, the industrial park and the hospital. If there is an airport here, it will connect people to this facility and reduce foreign medical tourism. Airports are by no means the best catalysts for economic growth of any state or nation.

“35 percent of global trade by value is moved through airports and $18.6 billion of cargo is moved daily through air transportation. The wealthy among you should take to agriculture for example and begin to produce things that you will export to other parts of the world.

“You can be land-locked but you cannot be sky-locked. We can all see the importance of having a facility like this. Thank you Mr Governor, you have provided this facility for the people of Ekiti State; they should own it, they should own it.”

In his welcome address, Mr. Zhang Zichen, the Chairman of China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), which handled the project, praised Governor Fayemi for the vision which he said would change the face of the state economy.

Mr. Zichen explained that the airport is not just a project but “the engine of the economy of the state” and said it would open up Ekiti to more development and investment to the benefit of the state and business community.

The CCECC boss who also described the airport as a “landmark project” said it was among notable projects completed by its corporation. He also hailed the Aviation Minister for being part of history and making the airport a reality.

Transport minister, Mu’azu Sambo threatens to sanction CCECC

The Minister of Transportation, Alhaji Mu’azu Sambo, has threatened to sanction the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) for not meeting up with the contract of providing 85 per cent of rail project cost.

Sambo made this known at the inspection of the Lekki Deep Seaport on Saturday in Lagos.

According to Sambo, the projects are the Kano-kaduna and the Maiduguri-Port Harcourt rail lines.

“The CCECC have not brought anything to the table, I gave them a deadline which is Oct. 30, if I don’t get that money on ground, I know what to advise Mr President to do,” he said.

Sambo who expressed satisfaction on the Lekki Deep Seaport project noted that initiatives were on ground to ensure smooth evacuation of cargo at the port.

He said that for part-time, the road was being expanded, adding that government was looking into it, and for medium-term, barges would take care of it.

“I am impressed and happy to be back here. This we know is the pride of all Nigerians, first deep sea port in West Africa that will take the largest ship in the world, have 16.5 meters deep and will give us hundreds and thousands of jobs.

“Almost automated not fully but automated enough to make life easy for port operations.

“It is initiatives like this we want to encourage, that is why I did not hesitate when I came to the ministry and I saw a proposal of the Badagry Deep Seaport sitting on my table and took it immediately for approval.

“Also, the president is concerned about cargo evacuation at the port and does not want a repeat of the Apapa and TinCan port and so we cannot rely on the road alone which is not the best option.

“There is a need to sit down with stakeholders to see how to tackle this,” he said.

He pointed out that cargo evacuation was not just within the port but outside the port, as goods must reach the final destination.

“First of all, you save a lot of time at the port because of automation and modern technology and equipment.

“After the port what happens, it only make sense when the goods get to the shipper or owner. And to do that, you need to move either by rail, water or road,” he said.

Sambo urged the management of the port to employ as many Nigerians as possible as this was the only way citizens could put food on the table for their families.

The Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Mr Mohammed Bello-Koko, noted that the Lekki Deep Seaport was one of the first solution to reducing traffic at Apapa and TinCan.

According to Bello-Koko, the automation deployed at the port is commendable and fantastic as the processes will be free of human interference.

He said that the Apapa and TinCan port would still be viable, adding that what they had done was to create alternative for importers and exporters as to where they would decide to do business.

“The operators of those ports should also up their game, and improve their speed in terms of cargo clearance or otherwise.

“Feasibility study have shown that these ports will still be viable in future like, 10, 15 years, government can decide to turn some of these ports into a real estate, we have some of them in Europe,” Bello-Koko said.

Mr Du Ruogang, the Managing Director, Lekki Port LFTZ Enterprise Ltd. (Lekki Port), said that the port was 95 per cent completed, adding that they would meet the targeted time.

Ruogang appreciated the NPA for deploying marine services such as tug, pilot, lines, boats and harbour master before the operations of the port.

Amaechi expresses displeasure over delayed rail projects handled by CCECC

Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi has expressed displeasure with slow pace of work at the Kaduna-Kano rail line being handled by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).

Amaechi said this during an inspection of progress of work on the route and that of the Dala Dry Port with some stakeholders on Saturday in Kano.

”The speed is extremely slow, the equipment that is supposed to be over 2000, all they have brought so far is 541.

”They claim that over 300 is in Kaduna , people have gone to check that; But even if you add all that, it is about 800 equipment as compared to 2000 equipment that they are supposed to bring, then something is wrong somewhere.

On the Port Harcourt-Maiduguri rail, the minister also expressed displeasure that the CCECC where yet to commence work on the site.

He said: ”It is part of what the CCECC will address us on, because we have given them some money and we think that they should start work.

”According to them, they said they will start building camps, for me who is not an engineer all those things are not my business, my business is to see the laying of tracks.

”So on Wednesday they must tell us because we can’t give all our contracts to one company and the company goes to sleep.

”They can’t say there is no land because it is an old track, you must start work,” he added.

Meanwhile, Alhaji Ahmed Rabiu, Managing Director of Dala Inland Dry Port, has given the assurance that the port would be delivered in a few weeks.

”It is feasible to commence operation at the Dala Inland Dry Port within the next couple of weeks.

”Access road we have been guaranteed and would be completed within a week, and other facilities will be completed soon.

”We assure you that on March 31, this place will be ready and it will just wait for the Minister to do the last bit which is to declare it as a port of origin and destination, “Rabiu said.

$50m Daura Transport University a ‘gift’ to Buhari’s town – Amaechi

The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi said the estimated time for completion of the Transportation University in Daura by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) was September 2021.
Amaechi made this disclosure when he visited the site in Daura to confirm commencement of work on the project on Saturday.
”There have been too much noise about them (CCECC) not constructing anything. When you got there you saw that they were constructing. They have just got the approval from the state government.
”Proper construction will start at the end of September and hopefully they should be about to complete it at the end of September next year.
”This is not a railway contract. This is a gift from them (CCECC). I have said my assumption is that they should finish by next year September,” he said.
According to Amaechi, the project will also entail the construction of a primary and secondary school.
He said: ”The idea is that there should be a primary school in it, especially for those lecturers who will come from outside.
”There will be two building for the primary School, a secondary school and then the university.
”Don’t forget that it is a gift, so they may not be as dedicated as they will be when it comes to a proper contract.
The minister, however, said that the contractors had assured that they would give the project the same attention they accord to the railway construction.
On manpower, Amaechi said that the Chinese would provide all that was required for the construction for five years after which the Federal Government should have been able to get its own technical staff.
The minister said the cost of the project worth about 50 million dollars.

  • Does The Minister Work For A Chinese Company? – Azu Ishiekwene

Does The Minister Work For A Chinese Company? – Azu Ishiekwene

    Azu Ishiekwene

Health Minister, Osagie Ehanire, has been in hot water lately. It’s hard to sympathise with him because he jumped into the cauldron with his eyes open, wearing his trademark black cap.

And not once. The first time was when Ehanire appeared before the House of Representatives to answer questions about the welfare of medical personnel on the frontline of the COVID-19 war.

Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila had asked the health minister if frontline workers were getting any special allowances. Not only did the minister say he did not know, he answered as if he should not have been asked in the first place.

“I’m not aware of it,” Ehanire said. “It is a standard job they do every day.” End of story. If fighting Coronavirus is the standard job that health workers do every day, then the minister might as well be on a visit from Mars, where aliens hold sway and UFOs work as doctors, nurses and midwives.

Of course, health workers work daily to provide care and save lives, even if in Nigeria they do so with frayed nerves and bare hands. We know. But since the outbreak of the new virus, every country has gone the extra mile to encourage and support health care and other frontline workers with additional incentives. It’s not to buy their loyalty or sense of duty. Just to let them know they are deeply appreciated.

To suggest, as Ehanire’s answer did, that talking about special allowance was treating health workers like a special breed, was, to say the least, uncharitable.

Unfortunately, that was not going to be the last time that the minister would put his foot in his mouth, right up to his knee. His response last week to questions on the whereabouts of the Chinese doctors and health workers was as embarrassing as it was shameful.

Let’s get this straight. Ehanire did not say that the 15-member Chinese team was the guest of the Federal Government, as he has been widely misconstrued. He said he did not know the whereabouts of the team. The main point, however, was not so much what he said: it was what he did.

If the Chinese health workers were not guests of the Federal Government, but guests of the Chinese Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) as has now been clarified, what was Ehanire’s business at the Abuja airport when the team arrived on April 8?

Except if the minister runs errands for the CCECC as side hustle, I’m bereft that he abandoned his post at the daily Presidential Task Force briefing on COVID-19 and instead, zoomed off to the airport to receive guests of a private company at a time of national emergency.

The minister may think that the lockdown has left our memory befuddled but we still remember some of what he said at the airport during his self-assigned errand.

He said, “First of all, what the Chinese doctors will be doing in Nigeria is capacity-building, to add to the body of knowledge which Nigerian doctors and experts have.” And then, he added, “I have requested that they will be able to connect with our scientists and doctors via tele-conferencing, so that we can start early to be able to ask questions and hear their narratives.”

This was at a time when a number of professional groups, including the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), had publicly and completely rejected the idea of the Chinese doctors coming for anything at all.

A number of those who argued to the contrary had very good reasons to do so, which among others included the need for humility to admit that the shambolic state of our healthcare could do with outside help in this emergency.

But both those who were for or against, were given the impression that just as it was in other countries, particularly in Italy and South Africa, the Chinese doctors and medical personal were coming on the invitation of the Federal Government.

That was the only thing that made sense for at least two reasons: one, it would give the team broader opportunity to share knowledge and expertise with Nigerian doctors and health workers, as the minister claimed; and two, it was inconceivable that any private company could import its own experts from abroad for its own use at a time when the national airspace was closed.

When China was the epicentre of the virus earlier this year, would a Nigerian company there have been able to fly in Nigerian doctors and health workers to treat Nigerians in Wuhan? Would the Chinese health minister have been at the airport to receive such a team?

Where in the world during an emergency will a minister sneak off to welcome guests of a private company, pass off their visit as a matter of national interest, and still retain his position without even a reprimand?

And if it was official policy to let outside help in through the backdoor, why wasn’t it advertised so that private companies that could not afford the Cubans or the Chinese could perhaps fly in health workers from Bangladesh or Madagascar, with Ehanire also on hand to receive the guests at the airport?

We’re displeased, and rightly so, when foreign countries treat our citizens spitefully. But it is precisely this sort of nonsense that leaves Nigerians abroad at the receiving end. It’s hard for others to treat your citizens with any respect or dignity when you sell them down the river so cheaply.

It was bad enough that the minister abandoned his post to receive guests of a private company. It’s disgraceful that the mixed messages about the actual mission of the Chinese left the public feeling swindled.

The CCECC’s statement was clear: “The medical team’s assignment in Nigeria does not include treating Coronavirus patients and they have not done so at any instance.”

So, where did Ehanire get the fancy idea that the team was “first of all in Nigeria for capacity-building” and also to “add to the body of knowledge which Nigerian doctors have?” What has become of the tele-conferencing that the minister said was supposed to connect the team with our scientists and doctors?

The minister has an excellent professional career. I don’t know which Chinese medicine bewitched him.

It took three ministers, several days later, to give us an idea where the Chinese team could be, yet none of the three could satisfactorily explain what the team had come to do until a statement by CCECC put the matter to rest, leaving us looking like fools.

The House of Representatives looked genuinely outraged by the nonsense, and I thought for a moment that they won’t drop the ball until they get to the root of the matter. But it seems they’re back to their default mode, where nothing without a promise of personal gain sustains interest for long.

And the journalists present at the press briefing where the minister disclaimed the Chinese and still got off lightly did not do themselves any favours at all. A bunch of school kids on a lollipop roll would still have remembered to ask the minister: what was your business at the airport?

Since the Chinese team has been finally located, the last leg of the health minister’s job should be much easier. His assignment would be complete when he escorts the 15-member team back to the airport on behalf of CCECC. And for good measure, I hope he mounts a guard of honour on the tarmac as he bids them farewell.

    So much for national pride!

  • COVID-19: Firm finally reveals whereabout of 15 Chinese medical experts

COVID-19: Firm finally reveals whereabout of 15 Chinese medical experts

Mr Michael Yigao, Managing Director, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) Nigeria Ltd, says the 15 Chinese medical experts that arrived in the country on April 8 are in the company’s care.

Yigao made the disclosure on Monday in Abuja while reacting to questions raised by the media and opposition parties on May 14, as to the whereabouts of the Chinese medical team.

This followed comment by the Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, that the experts, who reportedly came into Nigeria to support the fight against COVID-19, were not his guests but those of CCECC.

Ehanire, while responding to questions at the daily Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 briefing May 14, said “the medical personnel are not guests of the Federal Government but that of the construction company”.

Yigao, who corroborated this while speaking with newsmen, confirmed that the experts came into the country to share their experiences in fighting the COVID-19.

It will be recalled that some Nigerians had kicked against the decision to invite the medical experts, saying the country had enough doctors to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) even described the move as an embarrassment to the association and other health workers who were giving their best in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic under “deplorable working conditions”.

However, Yigao clarified that the team came specially to help CCECC fight this pandemic and protect its employees.

“The team had a telecast meeting with the Minister of Health and some doctors around the country and shared their experience in China on how they’re fighting the virus and the meeting was very positive.

“ They are here with us and have continued to teach our staff how to protect themselves because protection and prevention are more important than the treatment.

“Most of the workers understand the situation now and they know the risk, so they follow the proper procedures and cooperate with their instructors,’’ he said.

He said the medical experts would be heading home as soon as there was a commercial flight to China.

“Right now, commercial flight to China is not open, but when flights are open again, we’re considering the team going back to China.”

He praised the Nigerian government for how they had been able to contain the pandemic so far.

“In a big country like Nigeria, it can be a bit difficult to control a pandemic because you will have to make all the people of such a large country understand that it is serious and real thing.

“I think Nigeria is taking this very seriously and you can see it in the implementation of the lockdown and the suspension of international flights etc.

“And like other companies in Nigeria, we will do whatever we can to help the country, like building treatment centres and training people on how to handle the virus”.

He said that his company would like to build on the strong mutual relationship between Nigeria and China.

“ Upon request from the Nigerian government, we gave necessary support, like building treatment centres and at the same time delivered some health related equipment.

“We understand the COVID-19 pandemic challenge in Nigeria because we are based here and have a lot of employees and we do believe, that with efforts from the government from the people, we will win this war.

“I hope the people of Nigeria understand that we need the help of all peoples across the world to win this fight against Coronavirus,’’ he added.

He said that CCECC would continue to give quality support to the Nigerian people in all areas.
