  • Celebrities struggle to outshine each other on social media- Grace Amah

Nigerians have an obsession with celebrities on social media. These celebrities however fail to put the obsession in proper perspective, making the fans put them under pressure to maintain a particular lifestyle.

Grace Amah, belongs to the league of old generation Nollywood actresses who have made their mark in Nollywood. However, she isn’t pleased with how celebrities act on social media.

Amah lamented over how celebrities struggle to outshine one another on social media.

Speaking as a guest on Your View, a popular talk-show, she said: “We are celebrities and we are popular faces. If you come from the abroad and say you like me, I won’t listen to you, because I feel you want to come and ‘mark register’.

“I believe in passing the right message to the up and coming ones. I get scared about the whole thing going on on social media. Sometimes I sit back and ask myself is it this same work that we are doing or is it different? I ask myself these questions because of the way my colleagues go about this social media thing. There is so much competition on social media and we want to outshine each other.

Speaking further , she emphasized on the need for celebrities to pass the right message to the young ones.

“Sometimes it is not good to pass on the wrong message especially to the younger ones. There are people these so called ‘Small girl with big God’ are owing even as low as 5,000”.

  • How we conquered our fears- Nigerian celebrities

How we conquered our fears- Nigerian celebrities

Fear is the mind projecting within itself images of what it does not want to happen. If the fear is not recognized and dealt with early on, it can and will find root within our consciousness.

Nigerian celebrities are not exempted from the pangs of fear. Their success stories are not devoid of moments when they had to uncage their fears.

Nigerian actor, Deyemi Okanlawon recounted how he had to overcome fears of the unknown, quit his lucrative job at a top e-commerce company to become a full time actor about five years ago.

According to him: “It was nights of being terrified about what the future held. I’d say it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve taken in my entire life. I knew that even though the challenge was huge, the future was not particularly clear, I had it in me to overcome.”

In the same vein, Former Big Brother Naija housemate, Tokunbo Idowu popularly known as TBoss, has revealed how she conquered her fears. She confessed that she was seeking to be validated in order to live.

“Everybody misunderstands TBoss, and this was an opportunity to clear the air and face my fears. I was going to say I had no fears at first. Yes, I get irritated by things, but I didn’t really think I had any fears. Yet as I sat on a stool in a studio looking right at the camera, I realised that I had a couple of real fears. Most people won’t believe it, but I am human and I have fears.

“There was a point in my life when I sought validation to live. I always seemed to need someone’s approval and I didn’t get it. That was fear – fear of not getting validation. Then I got into the #BBNaija house and I had to live and tolerate different people from all walks of life. I was scared of how people would feel about me when I left the house. Will they love me? Will they hate me? But when I came out, I saw that the love was unbelievable. I uncaged my fear! How did I #Uncage my fear? I entered the #BBNaija house and came out a stronger person”.

For media personality and actress, Nancy Isime she had to overcome her fears when she lost her mum. Nancy noted that she overcame her fears by leaning to be strong.

“How I got to uncage my fear was basically doing my best to be myself and just be strong,” she said. “The one lesson I learned from losing my mom is that nothing is guaranteed, nothing is promised. You’re here today and tomorrow, you’re no more. Just give life your best shot, understand that everything is vanity.”

  • Celebrities are the world’s fakest, emptiest souls- Emma Ugolee

Contrary to what many believe, the life of a celebrity is not as flamboyant as most of us envisage. The glamour and attention seems very intriguing and make their fans believe they are not inundated with their own problems.

However, Emma Ugolee a Nigerian presenter has said not all that glitters is gold, adding that celebs are the most “fakest and emptiest souls” in the world.

The revered host of ‘The Gist’ said the celebrity life is filled with so much “vainness and make-believe”. He noted that celebrities often sink low to do absurd things in a bid to remain relevant in the entertainment industry. Ugolee called the “desperation” of the said celebrities as being “unhealthy for the spirit”.

“Since my 1st job was in the media, a lot of my companions were entertainers: models, actors, comedians, OAP’s musicians,” he wrote on Instagram.

“Trust me when I say its a weird experience to have these ones form the majority in your every day world. I have never seen make believe almost become reality. Fakeness and vainess in the most lofty of positions. Never seen such desperation to retain status and the lowness employed at machinations with everyday dealings is most unhealthy for the spirit.

“Truth is, as much as it is erroneous to make this a blanket rule (as some of the most priced souls I know have come from this world) the pressures of their world mould many of them into personalities you’ll rather know from a distance.

“But sitting here, the irony I observe is I yet have never seen a group of people whom everybody wants to be identified with without a single care about who truly is behind the veil. I am not talking the average fan. No, regular guys who become acquaintances to these or have business or social reasons for interaction with them. The story of the celebrity. Having more friends than they want. I’ve probably seen this scenario of a celeb looking at his ringing phone and ignoring the caller one million times.

“People spending a lot of money & struggling too hard to be accepted in this circles while being too busy for people who truly care about them. Sadly, even family atimes.

“Ashamed of people with real substance because they are of lowly means or would not turn heads publicly while quick to be associated with celebs, many whose friendship I can guarantee is worth a trophy made with kpali and cigar foil. Some of the world’s fakest and emptiest souls.

“So you have popular people around you. Who do you celebrate and why? Reassess your heroes. Who do you proudly associate with? Do you express your appreciation to the right people?

“This could be a supportive teacher, loyal driver, hard working market retailer, your trusted banker, kind nurse, great boss, self-sacrificing mother, resilient sick relative, real heroes. Not everytime famzing celebs.”

Unknown to many, being in the spotlight comes with its own dark sides. Filmmaker and actor, Pascal Amanfo recently took to his Instagram page calling on fans to pray for celebrities.

Amanfo who is also an evangelist said:” God has given me the grace and wisdom through my own journey and process to be able to connect with the struggles many go through. And as I speak with friends, colleagues and acquaintances in the industry, counseling many of them and getting them to pour their hearts out, I realize that many out there have no idea what people in the spot light have to go through. The burden of the expectation of society. The struggle to live up to everything people think you are.. The pressure of the next hit or job.

“The near impossibility of finding true love because everyone you meet is only in love with the image they see on screen or their perception of you. The thought of sustaining relevance. The depression of trying to live those dreams. The demonism of competition. The diabolism of control… The obsession of money. The emptiness of the soul that drives the fantasies of sex, drugs and alcohol. The dilemma of not knowing who your real friends are and the fact that people have no need of you beyond your social relevance”.

According to him:”Beloved, the devil is specially interested in show-business because within it he finds a huge medium of influence to drive his agenda! It’s not just enough to love and adore your favourite celebs. I implore you to pray for them! And when next you are about to criticize… Also remember…Many are targeted by forces of hell and some scandals are more spiritual than physical!”
