BOSIET Certification lawsuit: Court dismisses Opeans Nigeria Ltd motion to join NUPRC

Justice Joe Egwu of the Delta State High Court in Orerokpe has dismissed a motion filed by Opeans Nigeria Limited to join the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) to an ongoing lawsuit. The lawsuit involves Opeans Nigeria Limited, the American Petroleum Institute (API), Veriforce Limited Liability Company, and the Attorney-General of Delta State.

Opeans Nigeria Limited had sought to include NUPRC as a defendant in the case, arguing that their involvement was necessary. However, Opeans’ application was challenged based on Sections 307 and 308 of the Petroleum Industry Act 2021, which state that NUPRC cannot be sued or joined to a lawsuit without proper pre-action notice being served on them.

Furthermore, the court agreed with the plaintiff’s claim that there was no cause of action against NUPRC in this particular case, leading to the dismissal of the motion.

The legal action against Opeans Nigeria Limited and the other defendants stems from allegations of issuing fake and forged American Petroleum Institute (API), and Veriforce BOSIET certificates, which are not approved by the respective institutes.

Opeans Nigeria Limited has been falsely claiming that their training programs and certificates are approved and accredited by API and Veriforce, despite lacking any formal endorsement from them. The Company has been issuing BOSIET certificates falsely claiming that same is approved by API and Veriforce.

However, API, a leading authority in the oil and gas industry, has categorically denied granting any approval or accreditation to Opeans Nigeria Limited for conducting the BOSIET certification, and issuing such certificates. This denial further solidifies the allegations against the defendants, exposing the misleading claims made by Opeans Nigeria Limited regarding their affiliation with API.

BOSIET certification is of utmost importance in ensuring the safety and competence of individuals working in offshore environments of the Oil and Gas industry. The fraudulent issuance of these certificates not only undermines the credibility of the certification process but also poses a significant risk to the safety of workers and the industry as a whole.

With the court’s decision to dismiss Opeans Nigeria Limited application to join NUPRC to the lawsuit, the case will proceed without the involvement of the regulatory commission. The court has set the 18th of October, 2023 as the date for the ruling on the Interlocutory Injunction, which might have significant implications for the future of Opeans Nigeria Limited, where the plaintiff is seeking for an order to restrain Opeans Nigeria Limited from continuing to conduct the BOSIET certification.

This ruling by Justice Joe Egwu highlights the complexities of the legal dispute and the importance of following proper legal procedures. As the case continues, both sides will present their arguments and evidence to support their claims. The upcoming ruling on the Interlocutory Injunction will undoubtedly be a crucial moment in determining the outcome of the case and its implications for the parties involved.

  • FACT-CHECK: Unearthing misinformation in BBC’s report on Tinubu’s CSU records

FACT-CHECK: Unearthing misinformation in BBC’s report on Tinubu’s CSU records

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has cleared President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of certificate forgery, saying there is no evidence to support the claim.

The report authored by three persons bearing names that reflect Nigeria’s three major ethnic groups – Chiagozie Nwonwu (Igbo), Fauziyya Tukur (Hausa) and Olaronke Alo (Yoruba), is titled: Bola Tinubu diploma: No evidence Nigeria’s president forged college record.

In the report, the BBC listed three issues pertaining to Tinubu’s certificate. The first was his June 27, 1979 diploma which the broadcaster claimed was lost when Tinubu went into exile in the 1990s.

    Was it ever lost?

In the deposition, it was clear that the certificate was never lost because Tinubu never picked the said Diploma.

CSU Registrar, Caleb Westberg, revealed this fact in a back-and-forth question and answer from Atiku’s lawyer, Angela Liu.

On page 26 of the deposition, Atiku’s lawyer, Angela Liu, asked him. “So, CSU has determined that it does not have a true and correct copy of the diploma issued to Bola Tinubu in 1979? Correct.”

    Westberg answered: “That’s Correct.”

Angela Liu repeated the question again: “And how did CSU determine that it did not have a true and correct copy of this?”

Westberg answered: “We went through every diploma in our possession.”

She asked him again: “And so CSU after going through every diploma, was unable to find an authentic copy of any diploma that CSU issued to Tinubu in 1979, is that correct?

Westberg answered: “We did not find any diploma issued by CSU in 1979 to Mr Tinubu.”

Westberg’s response initially supports the claim that the diploma of Tinubu was not found in the CSU record because it was picked up.

But shortly after making the bold claim, the CSU registrar changed his stance after Angela Liu expanded the question.

She asked him: “And you don’t have a copy of Mr Tinubu’s June 22, 1979 Diploma or his June 27 1979 diploma?”

At this point, Westberg gave a different answer: “We have the June 27, 1979 diploma. It is in our possession,” he said.

Mr Westberg’s response shocked Atiku’s lawyer because only seconds earlier, he boldly asserted that CSU had no 1979 diploma of Tinubu in its record.

The new response of Westberg shows that Tinubu’s diploma at CSU was never picked up, hence contradicting BBC’s claim that he lost the certificate in the 1990s when in exile.

Atiku’s lawyer asked again. “So, why do you have the June 27th diploma in your files?”

Westberg answered. “While the university doesn’t know that for certain, my speculation would be that it was not picked up.”

    Tinubu’s INEC certificate

The BBC also cleared Tinubu on the certificate he submitted to INEC, which the broadcaster claimed was a replacement he obtained from CSU. According to the BBC, the replacement diploma is similar to diplomas issued by CSU in the 1990s. However, the BBC failed to show samples of diplomas in the 1990s to support the claim. This makes the claim to lack weight.

But in the deposition, Westberg was asked by Angela Liu if the university issued the June 22, 1979 (INEC) diploma to Tinubu.

Hear her: “So CSU has no record of issuing this INEC diploma to President Tinubu in 1979?”

    The registrar answered ‘correct.’

    Identity issues

In the deposition, Atiku’s lawyers pointed out some discrepancies in Tinubu’s records, including age and gender. The gender part was striking because it was handwritten. She asked how the university came to the conclusion that the same person who graduated from CSU is the president of Nigeria. The Registrar replied that they made the determination based on the transcript and admission application form of Tinubu and nothing more.

Much ado about certificates – By Hope Eghagha

BISHAK: A certificate is nothing! A certificate is nothing! A certificate is nothing!

    OBUKS: A certificate is nothing?

BISHAK: Quote me. A certificate is nothing!

OBUKS: How? What do you mean? We are in the 21st century, my dear friend!

BISHAK: What certificate did Jesus have? What certificate did Mohammed have? What certificate does Ronaldo have? Did the last president have any certificate? Didn’t he govern well? What certificate has Messi? Messi is his own certificate. Football is Messi. Messi is football.

OBUKS: Ibaboooo! I can’t believe what my ear is hearing oooo!

BISHAK: What certificates do those traders in Alaba or kano markets have? Please, tell me another story!

DEMOLA: Are you for real? We are discussing certificates, and you are referencing Jesus Christ and Prophet Mohammed? Who, what has brought this disaster on us as a people?

DELILAH: A former minister of the Federal Republic? Now I understand why we are where we are!

DEMOLA: A certificate is something! A certificate is something.

OBUKS: I am baffled that a sitting president does not want the details of his credentials revealed to Nigerians, that a disclosure would cause him irreparable damage! President Jonathan also blocked his PhD documents in University of Port Harcourt from public view. It is not a good sign, not a good sign at all. Sends a wrong message to the youths in the country!

DEMOLA: The youths? They are already lost. Is that not the reasoning behind the ‘school na scam’ slogan? We must trace them and bring them back to the path of truth!

BAKO: Look here, what is the big deal about two different dates of birth? You see, people from the old generation did not have proper records and relied on oral accounts. Besides, some people keep two different birth dates so that they may remain in paid employment!

BISHAK: What is a certificate? It is an ordinary paper which states that you went through an institution. It does not show competence. Why the sentimental attachment to an ordinary sheet of paper?

OBUKS: Are you saying this? That a certificate is not necessary for employment?

BISHAK; Calm down, young lady, calm down! Is it a university certificate that is driving Microsoft or Facebook. Let us look at practical things fa!

OBUKS: I agree that a certificate is not always an indicator of competence. But here we are dealing with a false claim.

BISHAK: It is this over reliance on certification that is propelling public officials to concoct results. The list is long. Speaker of House Salisu Buhari who falsified his age and educational qualification, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan who did not submit his PhD credentials for public scrutiny, Senator Ademola Adeleke, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremieyo running mate to David Lyon of Bayelsa State, Kemi Adeosun, Christian Abah whose tenure in the House of Representatives was cut short by the Supreme Court in 2017 over a forged academic certificate to INEC, Bello Masari who was accused of forging his secondary school certificate (the case eventually dismissed by the Supreme Court for lack of evidence), Speaker of House of representatives Dimeji Bankole, though the case was dismissed when he produced an NYSC discharge certificate.

DEMOLA: Our country is a country riddled with contradictions. Former President Muhammadu Buhari hired 13 Senior Advocates of Nigeria to defend him after Nnamdi Nkwocha-Ahaaiwe argued that Buhari did not sit for the Cambridge West African School Certificate (WASC) in 1961 and so was not qualified to contest for president! A transparent leader would produce the certificate. But our national sheriff, the man who staked his reputation (non-existent as far as I am concerned) hid behind technicalities to block a verification of his certificate.

OBUKS: Do you mean Buhari did not, does not have WASC? How did he enter a military academy?

BAKO: His certificate went missing, we are told; a guard dog in Army Headquarters ate the certificate when there was no food!

DELILAH: Hahahahahaha! I laugh in Fulfulde language!

OBUKS: Let us return to the current issue. The rumour mill, galvanized by social media, has been awash with all kinds of allegations against then candidate Senator Bola Tinubu. The core of the allegations was that Bola Tinubu migrated to the US with a female visa. Now that the papers have been released, there is a discrepancy in the two documents. When was our president born? 1952 or 1954? We need to know.

BAKO: Let us not waste time on frivolities. We know Bola Tinubu as president. We had known him as a senator, as a governor for decades. So, his identity is not in doubt. He successfully governed Lagos State. He was a successful senator. He was one of the arrowheads of NADECO that brought down the Abacha junta. Tinubu has political sagacity, and this has clinched him the presidency. He has built a network of friends across the country and should be allowed to govern in peace. We need a stable polity. Enough is enough, please!

OBUKS: We do not doubt the person of Bola Tinubu. We are asking: is the Bola Tinubu we know the Bola Tinubu who graduated from CSU?

DEMOLA: Is the Bola Tinubu who studied in CSU a man or a woman? Who is Sangodele?

BAKO: The admission letter shows that the Bola Tinubu who studied in CSU was a man! Period.

DELILAH: Remember though that gender switch or change is allowed in America!

OBUKS: If I were president, I would address the nation, display my certificates, and put to rest all the allegations and innuendos that have beleaguered me. I would post photographs of my classmates from the period. I would stand on the moral high ground and assure the youths that I attended CSU and graduated and that they should not listen to interlopers and haters. I would tell the nation that I did not peddle drugs and move on.

BISHAK: But you are not the President (Laughter). Don’t daydream! Presidents don’t rush to address the nation on every frivolous allegation against them. What time would they have to govern? Talking seriously, the matter is before the Supreme Court. We shall soon know if the struggle in the courts in America was worth the trouble.

BAKO: Too late! Too late!! On technical grounds, the matter will be thrown out. Gender identity is not one of the issues that was raised in the tribunal.

OBUKS: What if a case of perjury is established?

BISHAK: Do you think there is a court in Nigeria that can remove a sitting president who has been in office since May 29th? Remember the chaos that followed the removal of Chief Ernest Shonekan?

DEMOLA: I’m worried about the image of the country. We should be discussing policies, not academic qualification.

BISHAK: Don’t lose sleep. Even America the powerful has its own share of certificates wahala. Donald Trump hounded Barack Obama about his birth certificate. It is now clear that the diplomas awarded by Trump University are worthless.

BAKO: Senator, now President Tinubu is my man. Let us not join rabblerousers to distract him from the excellent job which he is doing!

DEMOLA: Alhaji Atiku is my man. Let us support him to ensure that truth is established in the Nigerian polity.

    DELILAH: What is truth?

BAKO: The truth is that the deposition by the Registrar of Chiago State University has laid the controversy about this unnecessary drama to rest: Bola Ahmed Tinubu, now President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, did attend Chicago State University. No forgery. No fraud.

DEMOLA: What about the inconsistencies in schools, and date of birth?

OBUKS: Leave that to the Supreme Court!

Certificate saga: Allow Tinubu to breathe, Igbo leader tells opposition

The Deputy Apex leader of Ndigbo in Lagos APC, Sir Jude Idimogu, on Friday appealed to opposition parties to allow President Bola Tinubu breathe and concentrate on governance in the interest of the masses.

Idimogu, the immediate past two-term lawmaker, who represented Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly,  made the appeal in an interview with NAN in Lagos.

The former lawmaker, said that after the verdict of the 2023 Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, opposition parties and their candidates needed to rally around the President in the interest of the nation.

According to him, politicians against the victory of Tinubu at the Feb. 25 Presidential election and at the court must avoid actions capable of dragging the country’s name in the mud.

The lawmaker, reacting to the certificate saga levelled against President Tinubu by PDP’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, described such allegation as politics taken too far and capable of destroying the image of the country.

“All I want to tell good Nigerians is to understand that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, did not and will never forge any certificate, and whatever he submitted to INEC is clean and true.

“We want to appeal to Nigerians to calm down and not allow themselves to be deceived by those dragging Nigeria’s name in the mud.

“We want the opposition to allow our President, who God gave to us to breathe. Please allow him to breathe for the sake of the masses,” Idimogu said.

Stating that the Chicago State University never said that the certificate Tinubu submitted to INEC was fake or forged, the lawmaker said that narratives by PDP was an embarrassment to the nation.

He added, ” They (opposition) should desist from trying to tarnish the image of Nigeria and that of the President Bola Tinubu.”

According to him, Tinubu is a God-sent President to Nigeria and the best the nation can ever have.

He said that the only thing Nigerians should do was to give the President total and maximum support for the president to lead the nation out of her challenges.

“There is nothing anyone can do right now because God has ordained him to be President, and he emerged in spite of all visible hurdles.

“God has crowned him as President, we should stop all pettiness.

“No matter what the detractors are doing, they cannot pull Tinubu down because God and Nigerians are behind him and he is a man of grace.

“The opposition should note this and wait for another election period.

“The matter of certificate is a pre-election matter and cannot make any opposition presidential candidate come through the back door,” Idimogu said.

The lawmaker described those behind Tinubu’s certificate issues, as interlopers, who would not achieve anything in the journey they have embarked upon.

“We know that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu will overcome as always and he has passed such hurdles several times,” he added.

Recall that PDP’s Atiku on Thursday addressed a news conference in Abuja, which focused on the validity and authenticity of President Tinubu’s academic records from Chicago State University.

Atiku has vowed to appeal the tribunal ruling of Sept. 6, which upheld the election of President Tinubu as the winner of the Feb. 25 Presidential election.

  • Nowhere CSU said Tinubu’s certificate presented to INEC was fake – Presidency

Nowhere CSU said Tinubu’s certificate presented to INEC was fake – Presidency

The Presidency has reacted to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s certificate presented to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Tinubu’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, said the Chicago State University confirmed that the president didn’t submit a fake result to INEC.

Ajayi noted that CSU affirmed under oath that Tinubu attended and graduated from the institution and that the school does not handle replacements for lost certificates.

Posting on X, Ajayi wrote: “We should be clear.

“In the deposition made by the Chicago State University, there was nowhere the University said the certificate presented to INEC by President Tinubu is fake. The University insisted under oath that President Tinubu graduated with honours and even at that, replacements for lost certificates are done by vendors not the University.

“The claim that President Tinubu submitted fake certificate to INEC does not make sense. A man can not forge the academic records he possesses. You can only forge what you don’t have.”

Following petition by the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, CSU had released Tinubu’s academic records on orders of the court.

Atiku had requested the documents to back his allegation of forgery against Tinubu.

The allegation of forgery was one of those dismissed by the presidential election court in the suit Atiku filed to challenge Tinubu’s election.

Certificate of Origin Issuance: Nigerians alarmed over widespread fraud

… urge Govt to beam searchlight on corruption at subnational

Federal and state governments in Nigeria have been alerted following a spate of forgery cases and disregard of due process in certificate of origin issuance at Local Government Area (LGA) offices across the country.

The alarm was raised by the Executive Director, Partners West Africa-Nigeria, Kemi Okenyodo, during an anti-corruption radio programme, PUBLIC CONSCIENCE, produced by PRIMORG, Wednesday in Abuja.

Investigations published by TheCable recently exposed how officials at LGAs in Lagos, Ogun, Nasarawa states and Abuja jettison due process for bribes in issuing certificates of origin to the people.

Speaking during the radio programme, Okenyodo, who was not surprised at the absence of integrity in the local government system, noted that the development is a breeding ground for security and transparency challenges the country continues to grapple with.

She called on the government to beam the searchlight on corruption at LGAs and introduce reforms geared towards strengthening the anti-corruption fight at the subnational. She added that the government should devise means of better informing and sensitizing the people about the process of obtaining a certificate of origin to save the unsuspecting public from extortion.

“The duty of the government is to make obvious and put into the public space the process for getting certificates of origin, the cost and the duration.

“The information should be out there in a dialect that people would understand and in a form that is easy and accessible to them so that those who do not avail themselves of the information have the responsibility to get the information and follow through and know where to report what is wrong.

“The government should make things transparent. They should make the process for not only for a certificate of origin but other services at the local government level open and transparent.” She stated.

Okenyodo also urged the government to strengthen the National Identity Management Commission and leverage data from National Identification Number (NIN) in building a national data bank while calling on massive awareness of the citizens on the dangers of certificate forgery.

Speaking on the report, investigative and multimedia journalist at TheCable, Samad Uthman, lamented the lack of a proper national database while revealing that massive trading of certificates of origin and other documents for money was going on at local government offices across Nigeria.

Uthman revealed that applicants of certificate of origin in Kokona LGA, Nasarawa state, pay up to N10,000 to get the document without due process; At Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAc), applicants pay between N20,000 to N25,000 to obtain the same certificate at the council office without submitting necessary prerequisite documents, adding that the scenario is not different from their findings in Lagos and Ogun states.

He lamented that further research on the issuance of certificate of origin on Twitter shows that lack of due process is prevalent in every part of the country and could be worse at border towns in northern Nigeria.

“The investigation took place in Abuja, Nasarawa, Lagos and Ogun states. In Abuja, we visited AMAC and Bwari Area Council; in Nasarawa state, Kokona and Keffi LGAs; in Ogun, we visited Ife and Shagamu LGAs; while in Lagos, we went to Ikeja, Olumosho, Oshodi-Isolo LGAs and we realized that only in Ikeja that officials insisted on due process when it comes to issuing the certificates.

“We realized that the situation is prevalent in all parts of the country, especially the north and the southern part of the country; when the story was published, we received tons of evidence from the public, even when we had a Twitter space meeting on certificate issuance people spoke on it,” Uthman explained.

Public Conscience is a syndicated weekly anti-corruption radio program PRIMORG uses to draw government and citizens’ attention to corruption and integrity issues in Nigeria.

The program has the support of the MacArthur Foundation.

JUST IN: Tribunal receives Chicago University, NYSC certificates in PDP’s case against Tinubu

The Presidential Election Petitions Court has accepted certified copies of President Bola Tinubu’s academic and work records, submitted by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

The documents presented as evidence include President Tinubu’s B.Sc certificate from Chicago State University, his NYSC Discharge Certificate, and a certificate of service from Mobil Nigeria Oil Plc.

During the court proceedings, PDP’s subpoenaed witness, Mike Enahoro Ebah Esq, revealed detail about these documents. He pointed out that Tinubu purportedly obtained them, but surprisingly, they bore the name ‘Bola Adekunle Tinubu’.

Led by PDP counsel Chris Uche (SAN), the witness also submitted forms EC13 and EC9, which are nomination forms, along with letters addressed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as supporting attachments.

However, the admissibility of these documents faced objections from the legal representatives of INEC, counsel to President Tinubu, Emmanuel Ukala (SAN), and the APC, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN).

Court orders arrest of APGA leader For allegedly forging Supreme Court Judgment

An FCT High Court in Bwari has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of a factional leader of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Edozie Njoku and one other over their alleged complicity in the forgery of a judgment of the Supreme Court.

Justice Mohammed Magudu issued the arrest order in a ruling on Monday when Njoku and his co-defendant, Chukwuemeka Nwoga failed to attend court for their planned arraignment on a 14-coubt charge filed by the Inspector General Police (IGP).

Justice Magudu ordered that Njoku and Nwogu be apprehended by the police and produced in court on November 28 for the purpose of their arraignment.

The ruling was on an oral application by the prosecuting lawyer, Rimamsomte Ezekiel, who urged the court to order the production of the defendants, who he claimed were served with the charge and informed about the day’s proceedings l, but chose to stay away.

Lawyer to Njoku, Panam Ntui challenged the mode of service of the charge on his client and prayed the court to reschedule the arraignment to enable his client, who travelled outside Abuja to return.

Lawyer to the nominal complainant, Stephen Nwoga faulted Ntui’s claim that his client travelled outside Abuja, stating that Njoku addressed a press conference in Abuja on Thursday.

In his ruling, Justice Magudu held that it was obvious from evidence before the court that the defendants were duly served, but chose not to attend court.

He consequently ordered their arrest and production on the next day for the purpose of their arraignment.

Njoku and Nwoga are, in the charge marked: CR/12/2022 accused among others, of altering a judgment delivered by the Supreme Court on October 14, 2021 in the appeal marked: SC/CV/686/2021 and inserting Njoku’s name as the second defendant when he was never a party in the case.

The defendants were alleged to have written Justices Mary Odili, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, Mohammed Garba and Ibrahim Saulawa (who were members of the panel that delivered the judgment) to help insert Njoku’s name as the second respondent.

They were alleged to have procured the services of some officials of the court who helped to insert Njoku’s name on the judgment, which Njoku allegedly presented to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the IGP, claiming to have been declared APGA’s National Chairman by the Supreme Court.

Part of the charge reads: “That you Chief Edozue Njoku, Chukwuemeka Nwoga on or about 30th June, 2022 in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, with others who are now at large, dishonestly and deliberately forged the judgement of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in suit No. SC/CV/686/2021 with the name of Chief Edozie Njoku as the second respondent, knowing that he was not a party to the case, using same as a genuine judgment of the Supreme Court with the intent to mislead members of the public, and ridiculing the Judiciary of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, thereby committed an offence under Section 366 Penal Code Law.

“That you Chief Edozie Njoku, on or about 18th July, 2022 at about 12pm in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and others who are now at large dishonestly and with intent to commit criminal offence, fabricated a letter to the Inspector-General of Police under false pretence that, you are the National Chairman of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) an act which you know to be false and criminal, thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 178 of the Penal Code Law.

“That you Chief Edozie Njoku on about 18th July, 2022 at about 10:30am in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja with others, who are now at large, dishonestly forged the letter headed paper of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), in that, you wrote to the Inspector General of Police as the National Chairman of the APGA, thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 366 of the Panel Code law”.

What you need to know about LAUTECH

In 1987, Governor Adetunji Olurin, the then Military Governor of Oyo State (now split into two states: Oyo and Osun), received a request from the Governing Council of The Polytechnic, Ibadan to establish a State University.

In 1988, he set up a seven member interministerial committee under the chairperson of Mrs. Oyinkan Ayoola, that recommended the creation of the university.

By March 13, 1990, Nigeria’s federal military government accepted the State’s request. The edict establishing Oyo State University of Technology was signed on April 23, 1990, by Colonel Sasaenia Oresanya.

The first Vice-Chancellor of the university was Olusegun Ladimeji Oke. During the time, Late Bashorun M.K.O. Abiola became the first Chancellor in January 1991.

The university began its first academic session on October 19, 1990, with a total of 436 candidates enrolled , four faculties, namely Agricultural Sciences, Evironmental Sciences, Engineering and Management Sciences, and Pure and Applied Sciences. A College of Health Sciences was established a year later.

The name of the university was changed to Ladoke Akintola University of Technology after the separation of Osun State from Oyo State.
