Oyo House of Assembly suspends LG Chairman indefinitely

The Oyo State House of Assembly on Tuesday suspended the Chairman of Saki East Local Government, Mr. Emmanuel Adedokun, over various allegations.

The allegations, ranging from party misconduct, lack of religious tolerance, inappropriate funds allocation, among others, arose from a petition by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders in the local government area (LGA).

The House announced the suspension during its plenary, after deliberations on the petition submitted to it.

The petition demanded for accountability on moveable equipment like bulldozer, the 10 percent supposedly being deducted from the salaries of political functionaries, among others.

“We appreciate the gesture of Gov. Seyi Makinde in his vision of bringing people from another party to boost membership of our party across the state.

“But, in our own case , the beneficiary of this gesture has come to maim and destroy the party to boost his own faction from the other divide he came from.

“The moveable equipment like the bulldozer in the local government has been taken away since he assumed office and has not been returned and without remitting any money to the coffers of the council.

“It is on the aforementioned that we are calling on your support to save our party from the hands of Mr Adedokun and the lives of our leaders and elders, who have suffered enough for the sustenance of the party PDP,” the petition read.

NAN reports that the House directed the LG Vice-Chairman, Mr. Rasaq Adeyemi, to take up the mantle of the council leadership in acting capacity.

It also said the Secretary to the Local Government (SLG) should assume the position of Vice-Chairman in an acting capacity.

The House further directed its Standing Committee on Local Governments, Chieftaincy Matters and State Honours to investigate the allegations and report to the House appropriately.

Miyetti Allah reacts to killing of chairman in Kwara

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has urged security agencies to investigate the killing of Kwara chapter Chairman of the association, Idrissu Abubakar.

The National President of MACBAN, Alhaji Baba Ngelzarma, made the call in a statement issued by Malam Bello Gotomo, National Secretary of the association, on Sunday in Abuja.

The Police Command in Kwara has confirmed the killing of Abubakar, Chairman of MACBAN, Kwara chapter.

The confirmation is contained in a statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, on Sunday in Ilorin.

Abubakar was reportedly shot dead by unidentified gunmen at about 10 p.m. on Saturday in front of his house at Oke Ose, Ilorin East Local Government Area.

According to Ejire-Adeyemi, police detectives swiftly responded and recovered five expended 7.62mm shells from the scene.

She added that his remains had been deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) mortuary.

Reacting to the incident, the President of MACBAN condemned the killing of the association’s youngest state chairman, who was committed to peace and advancement of pastoralist in the country.

“The Miyetti Allah cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) mourns the killing of the Chairman of the Kwara State Chapter, Idrissu Abubakar by unknown gun men on Saturday night at his house in Ilorin.

“Idrissu, aged 33, is the second MACBAN Chairman to be killed this year, barely two month after the killing of the newly elected Chairman of Katsina State chapter, Alhaji Sirajo Mairana.

“The deceased left two wives, six young children and his aged mother,” the president said.

Ngelzarma described the deceased as a committed member of MACBAN, who was looking forward to the transformation of livestock production system in the country.

He said that based on the information gathered by the association, the assailants shot Idrissu in front of his house around 10p.m. after driving home from Tarawee prayers (fasting congregation prayer).

The president condoled with the family of the deceased, Kwara Government and the entire members of the association across the nation.

“We called on the security agencies to thoroughly investigate this incessant killing of leaders of the association by criminals.

“In the last two years, MACBAN lost over seven State and Local Government Chairmen to unknown gun men.

“The National Vice President of MACBAN, Alhaji Manir Lamido had been missing without trace since 2023, while traveling between Katsina and Kaduna States,” he said.

Ngelzarma assured that the association would do all it takes to unravel those involved “in this dastardly act of cowardice.”

  • “I remain the undisputed acting chairman of Delta APC, Francis Obigbor declares

“I remain the undisputed acting chairman of Delta APC, Francis Obigbor declares

Chief Francis Obigbor, deputy state chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that he is the authentic and constitutional acting chairman in the absence of the substantive chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, who is on medical vacation.

He said “My attention has been drawn to a statement issued by Valentine Onojeghuo, Esq, State Publicity Secretary, APC Delta State on November 29, 2024.

The statement purportedly confirms the appointment of Chief Paulinus Akpeki as Acting State Chairman of the Party in lieu of Elder Omeni Sobotie, who is currently on medical vacation”, Obigbor stated.

“However, Chief Akpeki is and remains the Vice Chairman of the party in Delta Central Senatorial District.

As the duly elected Deputy Chairman of the Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), I have assumed duty as the Acting Chairman of the Delta state chapter of the party in the absence of the Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, who is currently on medical vacation.

“This is in accordance with Article 14.2 (iii) of the APC Constitution, which clearly stipulates the order of succession and designates the Deputy State Chairman as the rightful and lawful officer to perform the duties of the Chairman in an acting capacity in the absence of the State Chairman.

“I urge all party faithful and the general public to disregard the referenced statement purportedly confirming Chief Akpeki’s appointment, as it was issued without lawful authority and in flagrant violation of the Party’s Constitution,” the statement signed by Obigbor read.
Meanwhile, Prophet Jones Ode Erue, pioneer chairman of the APC in Delta State, has condemned the purported statement issued by Valentine Onojeghuo, saying “It is a blatant affront to due process and a flagrant act of political recklessness.
“Chief Akpeki, currently a Senatorial Vice Chairman, has no legal or moral grounds to assume the role of Acting Chairman, especially when there is a subsisting Deputy Chairman in the party. The constitution of the APC is unequivocal in its stipulations.
“For clarity, Article 14.2(iii) states that the two Deputy National Chairmen (North and South) shall act as National Chairman in the absence of the substantive Chairman from their zone. However, this clause applies to the national level, where there are two deputies. At the state level, there is only one Deputy Chairman,” he said.
According to him, “This decision, orchestrated by the State Working Committee (SWC), is not only unconstitutional but also undermines the fragile unity of the party, threatening to plunge it into chaos.

“Chief Akpeki, currently a Senatorial Vice Chairman, has no legal or moral grounds to assume the role of Acting Chairman, especially when there is a subsisting Deputy Chairman in the party. The constitution of the APC is unequivocal in its stipulations, and this decision brazenly violates its provisions. By acting outside the framework of Article 14.2(i) and (ii) of the APC Constitution, which outlines the roles and responsibilities of deputy chairmen, the SWC has demonstrated either a willful ignorance or a deliberate misinterpretation of the party’s governing document.

“For clarity, Article 14.2(iii) states that the two Deputy National Chairmen (North and South) shall act as National Chairman in the absence of the substantive Chairman from their zone. However, this clause applies to the national level, where there are two deputies. At the state level, there is only one Deputy Chairman, rendering the SWC’s argument baseless and an exercise in constitutional gymnastics.

“The insistence on Akpeki’s appointment is an assault on the principles of equity and fairness enshrined in the party’s constitution. Article 14.4 further underscores the roles of deputies at various levels, emphasizing that they are to assist and deputize in the absence of their principals. By bypassing the Deputy Chairman in favor of a Senatorial Vice Chairman, the SWC has not only shown a disregard for established norms but has also set a dangerous precedent that could destabilize the party’s structure.

“This maneuver reeks of an unpatriotic conspiracy to serve the interests of hidden paymasters rather than the collective good of the party. It is a betrayal of the party’s values and a disservice to its members, who deserve leadership rooted in integrity and accountability. Such actions are not only unacceptable but must be resoundingly condemned by all well-meaning party members.

“The SWC’s decision is an ill-conceived excursion into irreversible political doom. Rather than fostering unity and preparing the party for the challenges ahead, it risks creating factions and eroding the trust of members. The appointment of Akpeki, under these circumstances, is a step backward and a glaring breach of the APC Constitution.”
Similarly, the New Delta Coalition has expressed support for Chief Francis Obigbo to step up as Acting State Chairman. In a statement on behalf of the coalition, Mr. Godwin Anaughe noted that “Article 12.8 of the constitution explicitly states that the Deputy Chairman holds the second position in the hierarchy, while Vice Chairmen occupy the fifth position.
“We urge all party members to recognize Chief Francis Obigbo as the legitimate Acting Chairman and call on the National Leadership to address this constitutional breach. It is imperative that the Delta State chapter operates in accordance with the party’s constitution,” they stated.

  • Enugu APC, again, suspends Chairman, Agballah, others

Enugu APC, again, suspends Chairman, Agballah, others

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu has again suspended its state chairman, Chief Ugochukwu Agballah and other executive members over alleged acts of abuse of offices.

This was disclosed in a press briefing by the State Publicity Secretary, Chief Micheal Ezeanyanwu, and other State Executive Committee of the party in Enugu on Saturday.

Ezeanyanwu said that the members of the state executive committee, Enugu State had passed vote of no confidence following their anti party activities.

“We, the members of the State Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress, Enugu State do hereby pass a vote of no confidence on Chief Ugochukwu Agballah (state Chairman), Chief Augustine Alumonah (State Deputy Chairman).

“Others are Mr Jude Aniogbo (State Treasurer) and Mr Emeka Eze (State Organizing Secretary) and they are hereby suspended from the party.

“Our decision is predicated on series of acts of abuse of offices, usurpation of powers, creation of factional executives, unconstitutional removal of party executives.

“Others include instigation of crisis in party in some local government etc. committed by the named officers against the party,” he said.

According to Ezeanyanwu, Since the confirmation of Agballah as the state chairman of the party, he has been running the affairs of the party as if it’s his personal business without any regards to the party’s Constitution.

He said that the suspended chairman exercised the power of his office as the chairman of the party in the state arbitrarily and for his personal consideration, including hijacking and embezzling of the money meant for the party.

He added that the most recent of the embezzlement against the party and her members occurred on how he handled the money provided for logistics for Enugu State APC attendees of the South East Stakeholders meetings held in Owerri and Ebonyi State respectively.

According to him, the named suspended officers have sidelined the members of the state executive committee of the party and arbitrarily exercised the power of the organ.

“They went to the extent of unduly interfering with the administration of the party at the local government.

“Could you imagine that the State Chairman and State treasurer connived with the bank officials and they allowed them to access the party’s account without meeting the requisite constitutional requirement of the chairman and any two other signatories to sign financial instrument.

“The state chairman and treasurer also use their personal account to receive money meant for the party to avoid traces.

“Again, the state chairman, Deputy state chairman and the state organizing secretary had also engaged in instigation of crisis and factionalisation of the party in some local governments and wards,” he added.

Ezeanyanwu alleged that the state chairman through his deputy and the organising secretary, instigated and created factional ward executives in Aku Ward 3 in Igbo-Etiti Local Government Areas and Abbi Ward in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Areas without the knowledge and consent of the SWC.

“Recently, in July, the state chairman and state organising secretary facilitated and attended meetings with local government deputy chairman of Enugu South, other local government officers and some ward chairman at the Signature Hotel where he instigated them to remove the local government party chairman by whatever means.

“He tried to create parallel executives in Ezeagu, Udi and Awgu Local Government Areas, which has thrown the party into chaos.

“His misconduct and how he handles Enugu state party activities made Enugu state to have the worst result in the just concluded general election,” the chairman alleged.

“All these anti party activities of these enemies of the party in the name of party executives, culminated into the colossal and abysmal performance of the party in the state at the last general elections despite the effort of our governorship candidate and we do not want a repeat of it.

“On this premise, the aforementioned persons are hereby suspended with immediate effect.

Efforts to reach the embattled chairman, Agballah, failed as his phone was switched off but the state treasurer, Mr. Jude Aniogbo declined comment saying that they would not join issues with the State Working Committee.

“We will not join issues with the SWC that claimed to have suspended us as we are too busy to do that,” Aniogbo said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls  that in March, some stakeholders of the party had passed a vote of no confidence on Agballah over his alleged high handed leadership.

The stakeholders led by an APC stalwart, Mrs Ginika Tor, expressed dismay that Agballah had destroyed the party structure in the state through unconstitutional suspension of its founding fathers.

Those suspended by Agballah were former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, former Enugu State Governor, Sullivan Chime, ex State Chairman, Ben Nwoye and former Director General of the Voice of Nigeria, Odita Okechukwu.

Ondo: We’ve not elected new chairman – PDP

The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it has not elected a new chairman after the death of the Chairman, Fatai Adams.

The state Deputy Chairman, Mr Tola Alabere, has been the Acting Chairman of the party since the demise of Adams on Feb. 14.

This is contained in a statement in Akure on Monday by the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Ikantu Peretei.

Peretei explained that the tenure of the present State Executive Committee of the party would expire on Aug. 3.

He said: “The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ondo State chapter wishes to state that no state chairman has been elected to replace the former Chairman, Alhaji Fatai Adams.

“The PDP Constitution 2017 as amended has unambiguous provisions for replacement of officers due to death or removal.

“Article 47(6) of our constitution is very clear. Therefore, the purported congratulatory message, which has no author is fake, baseless, unconstitutional and crafted to create problems where there are none.

“For all intent and purposes, the fake congratulatory message is mutinous and a calculated attempt to undermine efforts at rallying support for the PDP Governorship Candidate, Mr Agboola Ajayi at the November election.”

According to him, those who are desirous of assuming responsibilities for party positions are advised to wait accordingly.
