    Championship: Leeds on verge of promoting to EPL, thrash Norwich 4-0 to reach final

    Leeds City have reached the finals of this season play-offs after  thrashing  Norwich City 4-0 in the second leg of their Championship play-off semi-final on Thursday night.

    The first leg of the tie had ended goalless at Carrow Road.

    However, in the second leg, Daniel Farke’s men were three goals up in the first half at home, thanks to goals from Ilia Gruev, Joel Piroe and Georginio Rutter.

    Crysencio Summerville added a fourth after the break, as Leeds kept their hopes of returning to the Premier League alive.

    They will face either Southampton or West Brom in the final. The first leg between these two teams also finished 0-0 and the second leg is scheduled for Friday.

    The final will be played on Sunday, May 26.

    EPL: Ipswich Town gain promotion to the Premier League after 23 years

    After 23 years of featuring in the English Premier League, Ipswich Town on Saturday gained promotion to the upper division.

    Ipswich joined Leicester City to secure the two automatic promotion tickets  after defeating Huddersfield 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.

    Given Kieran McKenna’s team already had a three-point lead over third-placed Leeds going into the final fixture of the season and needed a draw to secure promotion.

    Goals Wes Burns and Omari Hutchinson were enough for them on the day.

    The Tractor Boys have now completed historic back-to-back promotions.

    Last season, they won automatic promotion from Sky Bet League One as runners-up to Plymouth.

    Ipswich will play in the English top flight for the first time since the 2001/02 season.

    After spending just one month in the second tier of English football, the Super Eagles duo of Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi have won promotion back to the Premier League with Leicester City.

    Leicester stage a return back to the EPL after Queen Park Rangers’ 4-0 demolition of Leeds United  on Friday night.

    Ilias Chair opened the floodlight of goals before Lucas Andersen added another to make it 2-0 in QPR’s advantage in the first half.

    Upon resumption of the second half, Lydon Dykes and Sam Field added two more goals to complete the rout.

    The result also assured QPR of their place in the Championship for next season.

    Leicester have now garned 94 points with two games left, while Leeds are in second place with 90 are are still in contention for the second automatic ticket.

    The least they can finish this season is second place if they fail to win their two remaining games.

    Ipswich Town sit in third position with 89 points and three fixtures left.

    Third, fourth fifth and sixth placed team will fight for the last slot for promotion by playing in the championship play offs.

    Three teams will gain promotion to the EPL while another three will drop to the championship to feature in the 24 -team league format.

    Championship: Super Eagles’ Ndidi scores as Leceister City inch closer to EPL return

    Super Eagles’ midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi scored in Leceister’s 2-1 over West Bromwich Albion  at the King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

    It was the defensive midfielder’s fifth goal of the season.

    The win boosted Leicester City’s chances of securing promotion to the Premier League.

    Leceister City are still on top of the Sky Bet Championship table with 91 points from 43 games.

    West Brom remain on course to secure a playoff spot despite the defeat.

    Ndidi opened the scoring for Leicester City in the 22nd minute, while Jamie Vardy added the second 25 minutes from time.

    Jed Wallace reduced the deficit for the visitors 14 minutes from time.

    It was their first win in about 5 games in the championship and are now on course for an automatic promotion for the English Premier League.

    Nigeria wins U-21 Women’s Volleyball Championship

    Nigeria has won the 2023 African U-21 Nations Women’s Volleyball Championship Zone 3 in Niamey, Niger Republic.

    Nigeria defeated Ghana 3:0 (25-10 25-15 25-10) in the finals on Sunday night to clinch the title.

    The girls had earlier eased past local rivals, Ghana in their first match of the tournament with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-8) win.

    They continued their winning run in their second match against hosts Niger, winning 3-0 (25-4, 25-11, 25-4).

    The team also swept aside Benin Republic with a dominant display in their third match, claiming a 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-9) win to secure a rematch against Ghana in the final.

    Speaking after the match, Coach Rakiya Mohammed thanked God for the victory.

    “We bless God because this is the first time Nigeria is clinching trophy at the underage level. I feel so happy.

    “The Ghanaians came all out but the girls proved their worth and we have now qualified for the world championship in Thailand”.

    The team is expected to return to Nigeria later today.

    We are indeed at the end time as Sweden got the internet agog over the weekend after pronouncing s3x as a sport and finalised agreements for its maiden s3x tournament billed for Thursday, June 8.

    Head of the Swedish Federation of S3x Dragan Bratych, during the announcement, underlined the importance of s3xual activity, saying it can improve one’s physical and mental health.

    Bratych said education and training is very essential in order to improve one’s ability, just like in other sports.

    He said, “Like any sport, getting the results you want in sex requires training.”

    As the competition gets set to kick off on Thursday, here are five things to know about it:

    It will last six weeks.
    Participants will engage in sexual activity daily for 45 to one hour depending on the length of their bouts.

    The competition has three levels, and in order to advance to the next level, the contestant must obtain a certain minimum number of points at each one.

    The audience will watch the s3x competitions and will take note of various features of the sexual activity.

    The couple’s chemistry, their understanding of sex, their level of endurance, and other vital sexual features will all be considered when deciding who emerges winner.

    Why Championship side, Wigan Athletic fired Kolo Toure

    Championship side, Wigan Athletic has fired former Ivory Coast international, Arsenal and Manchester City star, Kolo Toure few months after being employed.

    Toure was only appointed head coach of Wigan in November, 2022 on a three-year deal after under going a coach course in the United Kingdom.

    The Ivorian was tasked with steering Wigan out of the relegation zone, but instead, things have only gotten worse, with the club now bottom of the Championship and four points from safety.

    Wigan got just two points from seven league games under Toure and were eliminated from the FA Cup after a third-round replay against Luton Town.

    “Firstly, I would like to thank Kolo [Toure], along with Kevin and Ashvir, for their efforts during their time at the Football Club,” a statement from Malachy Brannigan, Chief Executive of Wigan, on Thursday read.

    “Unfortunately, the results on the field have not been as we would have liked and as tough a decision as this was, the Board felt it necessary to give us the best possible chance of remaining a Championship club next season.

    “Therefore, we will now work swiftly and effectively to ensure the right person is appointed as the next permanent manager of Wigan Athletic, with the immediate objective of remaining in the Second Tier for next season.”

    12-year-old pupil wins Heirs Life inaugural essay championship

    Princewill Ebubechukwu, a 12-year-old pupil of Gateway Schools in Enugu State, has emerged the winner of the first edition of the Heirs Life Essay Championship.

    Niyi Onifade, Chief Executive Officer, Heirs Life Assurance Ltd.,  in a statement on Sunday said the nationwide competition was organised by the company with over 1,000 students submitting entries from across the country.

    He said that Ebubechukwu was rewarded with a new laptop.

    He said Ebubechukwu’s school, represented by the proprietress, Dr Loveline Ndu, received the Heirs Life Essay Championship cup, N500,000 worth of books and other educational materials at the award ceremony held in Enugu on Friday.

    According to him, the essay championship showcased the highly intellectual young future leaders in the nation.

    He said other winners included Purity Chukwudi Chetachi, a Basic five pupil of Star of Hope School, Lagos, who emerged first runner up and won a cash prize of N100,000.

    He said that Abidoye Habeeb, a JSS two student of Mivara Secondary School, Lagos, won third place with a cash prize of N50,000.

    “All the students who participated in this competition are winners, however, we can only award a few of them.

    “Indeed, the quality of essays that we received from these amazing students was fascinating and the winner, Princewill Ebubechukwu, expressed himself in such a remarkable way that one could easily visualise his dreams for our country.

    “We congratulate Princewill, his school, and the other finalists, and wish all of them a very bright future,” he said.

    Onifade explained that participating students were tasked to submit a 500-word essay on the topic, ‘If I were the President of Nigeria’.

    He said the over 1,000 entries received were graded by a team of experts under the leadership of a notable Professor of English Language, followed by a selection interview for further quality assurance.

    Speaking on behalf of the star prize winner,  his parents, Mr and Mrs Ebubechukwu, appreciated Heirs Life for their initiative and the opportunity given to students to compete in an educative and cordial manner.

    They also wished the management of Heirs Life greater successes in their future endeavours.

    They alongside Fulham who would finish first on the log are already booked for premier League football come next season.

    They will return to the English top-flight league after two years, while Nottingham Forest will go into the playoffs for the final spot.

    Striker, Kieffer Moore broke the deadlock in the second half, side-footing powerfully home after Philip Billing found him with a clever free-kick having shaped to shoot.
